Follow the amazing journey of the earliest stages of human life, with month-by-month development shown in unprecedented detail.
The complex concepts and processes of emerging life are demystified with clear, jargon-free text, while exclusive 3-D images, extraordinary photographs, and detailed illustrations illuminate every aspect of human pregnancy.
The largest section of the book examines the development of the baby in the womb and the parallel changes in the mother's body. Special 3-D art, illustrations, scans, and photographs show exactly how a baby changes and grows during pregnancy and how the female body adapts to carry it. A section on labor and birth explains these processes with step-by-step illustrations and easy-to-grasp text. The Science of Pregnancy also looks at the nature of human pregnancy, including how it evolved, and explores the anatomy and physiology of both the male and female reproductive systems. The mysteries of DNA and genetics are unraveled and explained in clear, illustrated detail, including patterns of inheritance and the interplay of genes and environment. Also provides straightforward, illustrated information on possible problems before, during, and after birth.

A lot of the writing is a bit technical in detail but everything is well described and the pictures and diagrams are awesome. The book really made me understand why it's called the miracle of childbirth, the progress of cells that develop into a human is amazing.
This was SUCH a great book. When I was pregnant I really wanted to visualise what was meant to be going on inside me, and this illustrated guide absolutely fulfilled that curiosity. Using diagrams as well as images from scans and real life, the journey of pregnancy from conception to birth and post-birth is documented here alongside scientific and medical detail that I will be honest sometimes went over my head. But the main part of this book I appreciated was the artwork and pictures, so would definitely recommend it.
This is a beautiful book to dip in and out of while pregnant. The images are detailed and there's a lot of information that that gives you a better appreciation for what your body is working on - definitely made me less grumpy (a little less anyway!) about having morning sickness and the like!
Probably the only pregnancy book I’ve enjoyed reading. Used mostly as an introduction to all things pregnancy- and baby-related for my toddler, although it’s aimed at teen and adult readers. Very in-depth, extensively illustrated, lots of fun facts about embryonic/fetal development.
One of the most comprehensive books about the biological side to pregnancy, stunning pictures and very, very educational. I got it for my kids, but I learned a lot, myself.
This book is full of fantastic pictures, scans, and diagrams--of the reproductive organs, the developing baby and uterus, birth, etc, etc. I didn't actually read any of it, but I looked through the pictures page by page with my 4-year-old, so he could see how his baby sister is developing.
My sister Sara recommended the book after she used it to educate her kids. I was bummed my new library didn't have it but was able to borrow it from hers.
Such an informative book on pregnancy! The details and images were well thought out and illustrated. The human body has such an incredible ability to create and nurture life. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is curious about conception, pregnancy, and childbirth.
Loved this book! It helped me feel grounded during my pregnancy as it taught me about what my body was doing on the inside during a time when I felt a lot of confusion and uncertainty.
