Find help and hope for times when it's hard to wait on God

Do you ever feel like God is taking too long to answer your prayers? Have you ever taken matters into your own hands, only to discover that you’ve made the situation worse?

Waiting on God challenges our faith when the bills are stacking up, our families are falling apart, or our dreams feel like they won't come true. We know that God hears our prayers, but it’s hard when the clock is ticking yet He hasn’t shown us the answer.

In this four-week Bible study, Barb Roose invites us to explore the stories of women in the Bible who had to wait on God— women such as Hannah, Ruth, Martha, and the unnamed woman who suffered for over a decade with a painful medical condition. If you’ve felt anxious, angry, discouraged or depressed because God isn’t giving you what you want, their stories will breathe fresh hope and practical next steps in your life. As a reforming control lover, Barb mixes in her personal stories of learning how to wait for God during long seasons of unanswered prayers, family difficulties, and challenging times in ministry. Together we will discover that there is goodness and blessing to be found in times of waiting, including a closer relationship with God than we’ve ever dared to dream.

Other components for the Bible study, available separately, include a DVD.

"Barb Roose tackles the topic of patience in a way that really hit home for me personally. I have a lot of “why, how, and when” questions for God. Combining in-depth Scripture study with practical tools and personal stories, this study is one of the best I’ve ever read!

—Melissa Spoelstra, Bible teacher, speaker, and author of Good News That Changes Everything and numerous other Bible studies and books

When waiting is hard and long, the last thing you need is someone disregarding your pain, with platitudes like “just push through.” In I’m Waiting, God , Barb walks with us in our waiting. Warm, tender, and a help for moving forward, Barb’s study has left me stronger, knowing I can wait so His glory is seen.

—Lynn Cowell, author of Make Your Move and member of the Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker and writer team

Barb Roose is a wonderful role model of walking out biblical truth while in life’s waiting room. This study is a must read for anyone wondering what to do while waiting and wanting to stay close to God in the meantime.

Barb Roose talks from the heart and definitely lets you know that you are not alone. Everyone struggles with waiting for God to move and Barb reminds you that you are not alone, God is always with you and His best for you is going to happen, but maybe not in the way we think or want. The exercises in this study helped me see where I was expecting God to do something and how that was hindering my faith, my prayer life, and affecting my relationship with Him. Barb also leaves you with practical tools to help you through your waiting journey.

Barb Roose has written another Bible study to help us navigate through difficult circumstances. I'm Waiting God offers Biblical examples and practical applications for walking through the hard times of waiting for things to happen. Barb's reliance on Scripture combined with her personal sharing help us not feel alone when we are questioning why and how long we might have to wait. With Barb's encouragement to continually look to Scripture (several verses are provided at the back of the book), we can turn our focus from the answers we hope for to the answers from the God we put our hope in. "He has a better blessing waiting for you."

This Bible Study was more than I expected. I've read a lot of books on waiting in the past twenty years of being single, so I didn't expect to get too much out of it, but I felt like I needed to read it. I was pleasantly surprised with some of the insights. There were a few things about Hannah's story that I hadn't thought about that were mentioned. Worshiping while you wait and trusting God to answer, but thanking and worshiping before the blessing. The bitterness Naomi went through and Ruth's obedience are highlighted along with some customs of the time period. How Ruth said yes, and how sometimes we need to make a bold yes to God or sometimes wait on him. The unnamed bleeding woman focuses on healing from the inside and Martha embracing the better blessing. Many basic truths are considered, and there are questions throughout that make you apply what you're reading. With prayers that apply what you've read at the end of each section I felt uplifted at the end of each section. There are pages to write on and questions for if you're doing the study in a group. I'd recommend this book for a small group Bible Study. You could do it easily in a month.

I received an advanced copy on netgalley for my honest review.

I am reviewing a copy of I’m Waiting God through Abingdon Press and Netgalley:

In this book we are reminded that God is Closer Than You Think even on the time find help and hope for times when it’s hard to wait on God.

Sometimes it seems to us that God is taking longer to answer your prayers. Have you taken matters into your own hands and ended up making the situation worse.

Sometimes Waiting On God challenges our Faith where our bills are stacking up or our family is falling apart or we feel like they won’t come true. We know that God hears our prayers, but it is hard on us when the clock is ticking and we haven’t seen the answers.

This four week Bible Study, Barb Roose shares with us stories from the Bible of those who wait on God…

I give I’m Waiting On God five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

I’m Waiting God is a study into the difficult, but ultimately beautiful journey into learning about God’s timing. I loved that each week highlighted different women of the Bible, and whether I had ever studied their situations or not, it gave a unique perspective into their lives that I hadn’t explored before.

I also loved that the study could be used however I wanted it to be used. It was only four week’s long, but each week could be as in depth into the topic as I needed it to be. There were a few days of “homework”—reading Scriptures and applying it to my life. But then there were a couple more days of *optional* homework that I actually think helped with the practicality of appplication.

In the end, Barb did a great job reminding me of the blessings of waiting-gratitude, discipline, prayer. When we wait, we lean into Him and realize more and more that He’s in control and that is the biggest blessing of all!

Huffing, puffing, worrying, stressing, thinking, rethinking; it's all part of most people's daily "grind" along with the impatience that causes it. We ALL want "it" RIGHT NOW and the wait causes more anxiety than most of us can handle, and THAT can be a killer, literally. How do we avoid it? How do we learn to stop? A journey of discovery awaits as you read about some of the women in the Bible and their “seasons” in the “waiting room” of unanswered prayers. You'll also explore your own “seasons” in that room and the reactions you had, while learning how to develop patience and coping skills for the next time you wait on God's perfect timing to send you the blessings He has in store for you.

This is a great study that every woman can relate to. We are always waiting on something! Barb takes the readers through the Bible stories of Hannah, Ruth, Martha and the unnamed bleeding woman. She reminds us that although things may not come to pass right away, that we need to continue to keep focused on God and the blessings and promises that He has given to each of us. I recommend this book to study leaders and to individuals who want to learn how to make the most of their “waiting room” times and how not to let discouragement bring us down.

Barb starts strong reminding readers that God is there even in the times we feel impatient, when we feel the urge to worry instead of just wait. I love the set of up this book and how it can be fitting for all sorts of waiting. The lay out is great for a group or individual reading through on their own. We all have moments when we are waiting and Barb has given us a great way to focus on His closeness in that waiting. I received an early ebook copy from the publisher and these are my honest thoughts.

These bible studies are beautifully encouraging and lovingly challenging!
It's been great to see that God uses our hard times, our aches and our tears of this life to help us grow in our dependence of God's good and gracious plans for us; both is this life and of the ultimate hope in the life to come.
I loved going through the discussion questions with a friend as we shared life and faith and encouraged each other to let God's enduring love and steadfast faithfulness to guard our hearts in troubled times.

For those who have ever been in God's Waiting Room, this study contains practical helps and verse references for encouragement. In addition, there are tools for a women's Bible study included. Comparing and contrasting the lives of Hannah & Sarah, Ruth & Naomi, Mary & Martha and the unnamed woman with a long-term personal disease, Barb Roose gently invites readers to actively wait while realizing that God is actively working during those times. This study is thoughtfully and carefully presented.

I received a copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.

This book is written with a sensible conversation style making it a quick, engaging, thought provoking, and entertaining read.

Thought provoking. A reminder that your plan may not be in God's timeline. So sometimes you have to wait it out and don't wrestle with it too much!

I enjoyed this Bible study. It’s set up so that you can either study by yourself or there’s a group study section at the end of week. This has encouraged me when it comes to being single. He has net forgotten me and just because he hasn’t answered my prayer doesn’t mean he won’t bless me.
