Seventeen year old Kylie Lyons’ life has fallen apart. Her parents’ divorce results in Kylie being uprooted from her sunny California home and now she has to move to Rome, Italy with her catatonic mother. Little does she know what awaits her there in the form of god-like Jonathon Pulmer. She knows immediately that he’s different, special, but she has no idea how special. Not until the word “vampire” is uttered from his lips. And not only is Jonathon a centuries old vampire, he possesses supernatural powers, like all vampires, and Kylie… Kylie is his soul mate. But life is never easy, especially in the world of the undead, and when a rogue vampire returns from Jonathon’s past she’s bent on extracting revenge in the form of Kylie’s death and anyone that gets in her way can die too. Kylie is about to learn that not even your soul mate can protect you from everything.
Micalea Smeltzer is an author from Northern Virginia. Her two dogs, Ollie and Remy, are her constant companions. As a kidney transplant recipient she's dedicated to raising awareness around the effects of kidney disease, dialysis, and transplant as well as educating people on living donation. When she's not writing you can catch her with her nose buried in a book.
Twilight. That's it. This right here was Twilight. Would you like me to make a list? 1. Kylie moves to a new town and meets a stunning guy. 2. He turns out to be a vampire. 3. After meeting, he's with her all the time. 4, He has a family of vampires alarmingly like Edward's. 5. The guy goes into the forest to prove he's a vampire. 6. Kylie's parent's are divorced. 7. Protagonist completely depends on the male.
Half way through this book, I found myself mentally marking all the things in this book that could line up with twilight. All of those people who would like to say that I'm just comparing all books with vampires in them to twilight, I just want to say that if you read this book and find those six things, and then go and find twilight, you will see that I'm right. It's a pretty close match. Hate to break it to you, but that's just how it is.
If my only problem was that this book was like twilight, I would have given Fallen 3 stars. But the lead character ticked them down to two. She depends ENTIRELY on Jonathon. When she finds her mom laying in her bed and unresponsive, the first thing she want to do, is go and call Jonathon. Don't you think you should call a freaking doctor first? Ugh, where did all the strong female leads go? That's why I've given this book only two stars.
Wow. Let me catch my breath. Holy Hera, this book is Amazing! Where should i start? OK so this was the first book I've ever read of Micalea Smeltzer and i loved it. I loved the plot, the Characters, the emotional damage Kylie faces, the love that Kylie and Johnathon have for each other, all of it. Kylie has two older brother but they don't live at home any more so her mother packs her up and moves to Rome. Its there she meets a sexy Italian artist named Johnathon. She just so happens to be his soul mate. I know I know Another soul mate book? YES. Can the love they have for each other overcome the bad? They have hold each other up. The book doesn't end like others, where the bad guy was defeated, this book ended to where you want to buy the next book and see if Kylie and Jonathon stay together. I recommend this awesome blossom book to other Book Addicts like me.
Really can not stand heroines that go above and beyond the TSTL cagetory. She finds notes stating "I'm watching" and "We'll be meeting soon" does she tell her soul mate vampire boyfriend.... nooooo she tears up each note and honestly thinks to herself "I don't want him to worry". OMFG! If I didn't like my iPad so much I would have thrown it across the room.
I really enjoyed this sweet vampire romance novel. It really did remind of Twilight, but it is so much better.
The book starts out with Kylie moving from California to Rome. I know, it is a big difference. Her parents have recently divorced. Basically, everything in seventeen year old
s Kylie’s life is in shambles. Kylie is a pretty good heroine overall. I love that likes to stay independent and does not think of herself as superior. I love her character and narration throughout the novel. She is extremely snarky and vulnerable. What I love about her is that she is extremely relatable. Smeltzer did not make her a dumbed down version, but an average girl whose life is thrown apart. I also really admire her character growth. It is amazing how she really grows up in this book.
Jonathan Pulmer is the main hero in this book. This, guys, is proper boyfriend material. He is just absolutely sweet and a huge romantic. I love that he is not secretive and extremely broody. He is very open and loving. I also love that he cares for his family. Not many heroes are very open with their emotions. While Jonathan did win my heart, there were times I did want to bang him in the head. Especially towards the end. It was like the “I want to protect you crap.” However, I could easily ignore those because Jonathan is just so kind and loving.
I really like the entire concept of vampires in this novel. They are extremely different and I love that the vampires are not flawless. There are bad ones and good ones. Also, their unique abilities really made me fascinated. The entire world building is very nicely engrained into the novel.
The romance in this novel is extremely sweet and adorable. However, my only issue is that it felt quiet a bit insta-lovy. There was too much happening too fast. I just wished the pacing of the romance was a slower. Otherwise, though, I really enjoyed the sweet and adorable moments in this book. Really makes the fairy tales come true.
Overall, I really did like this novel. However, it won’t be receiving five stars because there are a few issues I did have with it. Otherwise, for Twilight lovers, I highly recommend this book.
This book was okay for me. I’ve read the Outsider series and I liked that one better than this one. It’s still a good read for anyone who likes paranormal love stories. It’s just a little juvenile for me. I like it better when there’s a little drama before the love part happens. This book was one of those insta-love stories where the characters meet and then five minutes later their professing their undying love for one another. I prefer a little more depth into the story before the characters start the whole love thing. Overall it wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t great either. Hopefully the series gets better from here.

Yeah this book was just...not great. It felt like Twilight and New Moon wrapped into one. Except Bella was a lot smarter than Kylie. I love Micalea's books. I've read a few and given them 5 stars but this one just wasn't good. I think this might have been one of her first books which might be the reason it's not too great but don't quote me on that though...but I LOVE her other books. Rae of Sunshine, Unraveling and the Olivia and Trace books are amazing!! So don't judge this author based off this review. I've given all her other books I've read 5 stars.
So many things wrong... If they hadn't gone grocery shopping when they got to Italy, where did the dry cereal come from? Tre magnifique is French, not Italian! How is she able to read street signs if she doesn't understand Italian? When taken to an emergency room, you are not immediately admitted to a room...you have to triage first. This is as far as I got before frustration overload.
This was a great story but with a few editing issues. The characters were absolutely awesome! Definitely not the same old typical vampire story, very interesting and good clean read.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. It took a while for me to get into the flow but it built well. I will be reading the next one to see where this relationship with Jonathan & Kylie leads.
I couldn't finish this book, or to be more precise, I couldn't continue it. After the first few chapters, I knew exactly what this book was. It follows the same rhetoric as 80% of YA paranormal romances.
"Protagonist dreams about some hot guy who turns out to be real" trope? Check.
"Instantly falls for said hot guy and spends paragraphs talking about OMG HOW HAWT he is" trope? Check.
"Divorced parent tragic backstory" trope? Check.
"New town, new start" trope? Check.
"Hot guy is fabulously wealthy" trope? Check.
It was just a mess. The book was full of grammatical errors, but the author did leave a note at the beginning explaining why, so I chose to ignore the errors. Sadly, I can't ignore a bad plot.
I would be really into this story if it strayed from the norm of paranormal romance YA. Insta-love has been overplayed. It is far more interesting to watch a friendship form, then in time become a romance.
I've read many books that imitated Twilight series. Some borrowed paragraphs from Twilight, some borrowed pages. But Fallen has borrowed entire plotline from it. There isn't a single thing that doesn't remind you of Twilight. - MC moves to new place - check. - Meets this hot guy - check. - Hot guy turns out to be a vampire - check. - MC wants to be with him anyway - check. - A psychotic killer hell bent on revenge for killing her mate - check.
What bothered me most was the MC. It was so very hard to be in her head. She keeps saying she is independent, but I don't see a SINGLE thing she does independently.
The only reason I picked up this book was because I liked Ms Smeltzer's Outsider series.
DNF- I could not finish it. I tried, I really did, but I got to about 70% and was done. The main character was a knockoff Bella Swan. She was obnoxious to no end, and still, everyone loved her. The love interest made me so so so angry. "Oh, I'm not like other guys I want to wait until marriage to have sex" NO ONE CARES, JONATHON. Also, plot? Nonexistent. It was miserable and cliche. 2014 Wattpad vampire romances are better than this book was. Twilight was better than this book was. Your time reading this would be better spent doing ANYTHING else. The only thing it might possibly be good for is causing psychological damage. In short, it was awful.
I was very apprehensive when i first started reading this book. I was thinking it was a Twilight spin off kinda but having read other books by Micalea I stuck it out and I am so glad I did! This book is amazing. It kept me entertained the hole time and made me wonder what is going to happen next. I love Kylie and how she stands up for what she wants and I love that Jonathan stands by her decision. Off to buy the 2nd book now!!! Micalea I'm seriously addicted to your books!!!
i dont know why but after reading another book by Micalea this seemed banal, uninteresting and overall eugh.
A side note... Apologies if someone doesnt agree with my opinion (this has happened a few times and I do not wish to have more arguments with someone younger than I and who pretty much clashes with my own opinion. This is purely my opinion and I will not force it upon another)
In the beginning it was all sweet and good...it had loads of excitement towards the middle what with selena's entry n all.Buut the end all confusing n meaningless... I have one question ....how is it a happy ending when ky does not wanna bcome a VAMPIRE...Does he have to watch his soulmate die??????I m sooooo not gonna read the next book....
This was a good book. I wished it was a little less like Twilight, but I love the way this author pens her stories. Overall, it was a great read. I had to pick up Forbidden so I could find out what happened:)
I have read a lot of Micalea's books. I really like her stories. Fallen was pretty good. The writing seemed a little different from her other books. But I definitely will read book two.
Loved this book. I love the idea of soul mates. And I love vampire books. So together is kind of perfect. If you can get pass the not so great writing from Micalea's earlier writing I'd totally say go for it.
Wow seemed everything happened so fast in the beginning but know it did for reasons I'm understanding now! My heart hurts for her because her dad died and a horrible way, but I knew some kind of way that evil Selena would get away ughh well into the 2nd one
i read books like most people drink water and i can honestley say that this is one of my all time favorites. great read fast paced plot and an iresistble romance i mean come on who can resist that?
THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST BOOKS EVER. It was like Twilight all over again and I loved Twilight but this book was terrible. It started off ok but just got worse and worse.
