If I had not had to read this book for class, I would not have read past the first few pages. While this book did not bore me like the Strategic Planning book I also had to read this summer, this book still did not engage me at all. Campbell and Fullan did not engage in any sort of depth, frequently stating what the book would discuss but never actually discussing it.
Read this book if you have to for class but I do not advise going out and picking up the book otherwise.
A collection of leadership suggestions tailored specifically to school boards. This would have been a great book to read prior to starting as a trustee and was a helpful reminder of the board and staff working together towards a collective goal for students.
Only suggestion would be to have a more Canadian focus since it referenced Canadian and American school boards (ie. reference provinces not state)!
This book felt like reading a student paper that quickly ran out of topics to discuss. By page 30 it way already repeating material. Overall, it contained worthwhile guidance on working as a team, but failed to make any relevant suggestions for school board governance tactics. It was generic advice that would help any team work with cohesion, but I was hoping for a more deep dive on governance tactics, procedure, and history on school boards.
Absolutely necessary reading for superintendents, board trustees, and anyone who is considering running for school board. I loved Campbell & Fullan's approach to working together as a unified team and keeping students front & center. Super practical and useful.
