Although I found a lot of the information contained in this extremely thorough biography to be useful, I did find it also to be rather laboured. There were large segments that, due to a certain amount of repetitiveness, were more of a chore to read than was found to be interesting. These inevitably involved the detailed minutia of social and economic infighting between the myriad of rival left wing groups that Connolly was either in or around, whether in Scotland, England, Ireland or indeed the USA. To sum up then, the interesting bits were thorough, well explained and informative, while there were passages that were so factual and evidence heavy they were dull and grinding.
