Justice Jagannathan by Amarar Devan is an extraordinary book that was ahead of its time by exploring a crime through a courtroom trial. The core story holds us intrigued, and the dialogue exchanges between the prosecutor and the defending lawyer can be studied by even law students now! However, there was an overdose of melodrama and especially the last three chapters were dragged to test my patience!

A nice read which gives a flavour of erstwhile jury system in India and the court proceedings. Story building through witnesses and cross-examinations hold interest and make a pageturner in a number of places. A light and commonplace humour characteristic of the author runs throughout the book. The plot depicts well the family dynamics involving love/ hatred/ greed and commonfolk's offhand opinions of the case and the defendant, bringing out soceital prejudices. However, a bit disappointed by the way how the narration itself portrayed a black and white picture of the characters and also kind of developed some prejudice in readers' minds. The ending could also have been bit more satisfactory.

Wonderful court drama set around some decades back (possibly around 1950's). Devan takes this story through a gripping manner while also quoting some law articles in between for readers. Not to be missed jokes in mid of tensed scene by main characters :)
