After celebrating the successful release of his first book, Michael Sinclair is feeling a little more than cautiously optimistic. He has a new career, a new sense of stability, and he’s finally learning to accept his strange ability to communicate with the dead. And he’s found the perfect engagement ring for Kate.
But planning a proposal is easier said than done, even after Luke Rainer invites Michael and Kate to join him and the Cemetery Tours crew on their journey to the haunting hills of Scotland. Because now, along with waiting for the right moment to pop the question, Michael finds himself faced with ancient spirits, mythical monsters, and an outspoken skeptic, determined to expose him as a paranormal impostor.
“Bluidy Mackenzie, come oot if ye dar. Lift the sneck and draw the bar!”
It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of Jacqueline E Smith’s writing and Lost Souls didn’t disappoint. With this installment, the Cemetery Tours crew head to Scotland, to visit haunted sites and maybe even catch a glimpse of Nessie, the Lochness monster… well, Luke can dream, anyways.
I love this group. They are FRIENDSHIP GOALS. I’m always happy to spend time reading about their adventures and sharing their world. Their banter is witty and hilarious. Here’s an example:
“Assistance is appreciated, but I’d much rather have you on Nessie patrol,” Luke replied. “You do know that I can’t just will mythical beings into this existence, right?” “Not with that attitude, you can’t.”
I just loved the dialogue between characters. Their banter had me laughing out loud – yes, I literally LOLd.
The setting was majestic. I appreciated that Smith chose Scotland. And while I’ve never been there myself, I felt like I was. The details were intense – an absolute sensory experience. I could see the emerald green trees, old castles, gray skies, and blue waters. At one point, I literally smelled the gardenia of Kate’s hair – but I also had a gardenia candle burning beside me. Still, that was a WHOA. It really felt like I was there standing alongside Michael, Kate, Luke and friends.
I loved learning about Scotland’s haunted past, the ghosts, and the mythical creatures. As always, Smith handled this with care and respect.
The ending was beautiful and could have easily wrapped up the series. However, I was delighted to learn that there will be another installment! I look forward to continuing the story when it’s released! Cemetery Tours is such a fun paranormal series about a great group of friends. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I loved returning to these characters and can't stress enough how much I am looking forward to book 5. It's really wonderful to watch the development of the characters and their relationships and of course the wonderful setting! Reading the book is like returning to a long missed group of friends - or friends I'd like to have, haha. Needless to say that Smith makes great use of humour and the mysterious, not to speak of the very natural dialogue. This is probably the best modern ghost story I encountered so far. Plus, it's really captivating and it's impossible to put the book down. Sadly, it was over just way too quickly.
Another awesome adventure for Mikey, Kate, Luke, and the crew
I absolutely LOVE this series. Not only do I have them on Kindle, I have copies in paperback, personally autographed by the author herself. Jackie, keep it up. You're bloody awesome. This was a great read, I will be going back and reading each one again. We all need a friend like Brink.
I love these characters so much that I squealed when I saw book 5 mentioned. Ans also, now I definitely want to go to Scotland too. Very cool that some of these ghosts are based on real stories. Now I want to go find them too.
Intriguing and one of the best reads. I am so ready for book 5.. The one thing I am disappointed with is making Michael seem like a wimp with his life.
Wait, what? I turned the page and it was over? Nothing happened except Michael got engaged to boring Kate? No resolution of other storylines? Did I miss something?
