Who knew that trying to help his twin sister overcome the pain from an accident he believes he caused would help heal his wounds as well?
Kyle is trying to be the best brother he can be to his sister. He works to support both of them on top of attending school. He's sacrificed his own life for hers.
As his ex-boyfriend liked to tell him. All. The. Time.
He's even subjected himself to yoga classes because his sister doesn't want to go alone.
Lance is only filling in while the usual yoga instructor is out, but he's drawn to a young woman he thinks he could help heal. He didn't expect to also meet her brother, who still suffers from the emotional pain of their accident.
Can Lance convince Kyle that his life is also worth living?
**Finding Balance was originally published in 2015 as part of the Love is an Open Road collection on Goodreads.
Sloan Johnson is a big city girl trapped in a country girl’s body. While she longs for the hustle and bustle of New York City or Las Vegas, she hasn’t yet figured out how to sit on the deck with her morning coffee, watching the deer and wild turkeys in the fields while surrounded by concrete and glass.
When she was three, her parents received their first call from the principal asking them to pick her up from school. Apparently, if you aren’t enrolled, you can’t attend classes, even in Kindergarten. The next week, she was in preschool and started plotting her first story soon after.
Later in life, her parents needed to do something to help their socially awkward, uncoordinated child come out of her shell and figured there was no better place than a bar on Wednesday nights. It’s a good thing they did because this is where she found her love of reading and writing. Who needs socialization when you can sit alone in your bedroom with a good book?
Now, Sloan is a tattooed, purple haired mom of two kids, one of which was a thank you present to her husband for letting her get a Staffordshire Terrier with more anxiety issues than Sloan has, which is saying something. She’s been kicked out of the PTA in two school districts and is no longer asked to help with fundraisers because she’s been known to lose herself in a good book and forget that she has somewhere to be.
Take one burnt guy and one sexy yoga instructor, add in some smoldering, agonizing, and sloooow going. Loved the relationship and squabbling between the twins. Once Lance finally closes Kyle's escape routes, they finally move forward. Basically, Lance is a tantric sex god--but, you only get a tiny taste. Tiny.
Maybe in my old age I don't have the patience for such waffling or stubbornly sticking to one's assumptions about love and life, when clearly that person bases said decisions on jumping to the wrong conclusions.
It's a wonder that Lance found Kyle attractive in the first place, let alone worth his time to pursue after such behavior. So much unnecessary self torture and drama-lama, when a simple conversation could have solved the problem ages ago.
I struggled rating this one. While I liked it I just didn’t love it and for some reason I struggled with connecting to Lance. I liked Kyle and his dedication to his sister but I don’t feel like I know Lance
This was just too angsty, too much miscommunication, too much of nothing in particular.....I was getting whiplash from the to-ing and fro-ing. Lance was just full of nonsense....WTF was he on??? And Kyle needed to stop acting like a petulant toddler. I can't even describe the plot because there didn't seem to be one....unless you wanted a yoga instruction manual and then you'll have the cobra position down pat in minutes........
Kyle feels responsible for his twin sister, Kerri. He struggles to pay rent and keep food on the table for the two of them and attend college. Kerri was in a terrible accident that left her unable to swim any longer and with severe back pain. She takes yoga with him to help with the pain management. Then one day, their regular sensi is out sick and in steps an advance yoga instructor. Sinfully sexy Lance. And Lance got himself an eye full of sexy too, Kyle. Kerri is all the two of them getting together. Lance even offers to come over to help Kerri at their place. He is a great guy.
Sadly, Kyle doesn’t think he’s good enough. He has banished all relationship to the side. His top priority is his family, especially his sister. His last boyfriend make sure he understood that it’s silly of him to let his sis ‘walk all over him.’ So he has some commitment issues.
Lance sees through it and wants to be the right guy for Kyle and he is going to have to put up a fight to make Kyle see it too.
Really good free short from Sloan Johnson and the MM Romance Goodreads group. I like this authors work and was happy to read her contribution. It's about self-forgiveness and learning to trust. The sibling relationship was really sweet and please sign me up for lessons with the yoga instructor even if I haven't ever tried it before. I thought it was a sweet romance, and the slow burn was so hot!
Not a big fan of tribal tats, NSFW Offered for FREE from the M/M Romance Group's Love Is An Open Road event. Thank you too all the amazing authors who participated!["br"]>
2.5 stars rounded up. Hm...Not really sure what I just read. It really started out pretty promising but then there was unnecessary angst and it was finished.
Thanks to the author for participating in the LOR event.
I really enjoyed this story and I definitely didn't want it to end. I was caught up In the story of Kyle and Lance and wanted to carry on and see them happy together. That said, there was a cute HFN ending and some lovely character growth during the book.
