A small-town waitress, awestruck by dreams of a bigger world, looks forward to the biggest break of a budding career in this darkly comic short tale of what happens when innocence collides with cynicism.
Eighteen-year-old Keridee is done with high school, her cheating boyfriend, her jealous friends, and Nowhere, Florida. She’s determined to do something with her life, and her small-time modeling agent has already scored her a gig. She’s working an event for a billionaire real estate mogul who happens to own a huge modeling agency. What if he’s dazzled by her smile and makes her a star? What if the impossible actually happens?
Keridee is part of The Fairer Sex, a collection of sexy, satirical, and sometimes harrowing short stories that explore the question: “What do women want?” The answer is different for every woman, but each can be read or listened to in a single sitting.
Michelle Miller wrote pseudonymously until the publication of her debut novel, The Underwriting, which she initially released as an online serial before publishing with Penguin in 2015. It was subsequently translated into 16 languages and developed for television with Fox. Her short story collection The Fairer Sex was an Amazon bestseller, whose TV adaptation she’s currently writing with Amazon Studios.
She holds a BA and MBA from Stanford University and, in a past life, worked at JP Morgan, Bain & Co. and dabbled in the start-up scene.
Michelle lives between London and Asheville, North Carolina, where she was born and raised.
This extremely short story about an eighteen-year-old girl who's about to get her break in modeling was not what I was expecting and ended up being just a waste of my time by that ending.
Keridee meets Brad Tucker on a race track and she is mesmerized.
I didn't enjoy this one and didn't understand the point it was making.
Two stars.

At time of posting this collection is available on Kindle Unlimited.
Felt like this was was set up to be PWP but the abrupt ending shut it down too quickly. We don't get to see To be honest though if this had been any longer, I would have just clicked out of it and the others.
Thought this collection was gonna be something different... guess I should have read the reviews first. Oh well.
Quite a smart short story with the author clearly taking Keridee to a place the average reader does not want to go. Keridee has a simple life. Limited ambition but hard working. In a sea of sameness she stands out because she is pretty. Not in a pretentious or narcissistic way. Just a simple attractive young women with a steady boyfriend. Others have noticed her beauty; girls are jealous of her natural good looks and Dylan worried about others finding her attractive. Offers of modelling come her way but not believing the comments and not willing to upset her fella she limits herself in terms of exposure and clothing she’ll wear. All this changes when she is betrayed by her friends. Where there was previously little motivation to enter the world of fashion she starts to follow that dream. Her big break comes at a motor racing event where she is dolled up with several others to promote the sports team and sponsors endorsements. Amid the glamour is an important man. Good looking and owner of the largest modelling agency around. If only she could catch is eye among a throng of eleven others all identically dressed. But then she is pretty, everyone says. Keridee is at the start of her career. She is learning quickly but nothing has prepared her for another betrayal and disappointment.
This one began in a way I found interesting but it took a major nose dive into predictable land and was just boring. Again very trite. Nothing to see here. Makes me sad that these eight books were the best Miller could come up with to high light "the fairer sex." Raunchy and boring.
this seemed to be the book (listen) to be of these youngest lady? i think?? maybe just my thoughts. I think my fave 2 are Heidi and Clara ... they others not that i did enjoy them but i prefer those others more??! interesting take, i guess for me i wonder why in 2019 we are still saying FAIRER sex? i mean ... we are ladies, hear us ROAR ... not saying beat all men down. so not the case. just change the wording. I love finding these collections by Amazon ... this one is all by Michelle Miller ... i thought they usually were different authors not the same? I am still trying to figure how they are related - usually it is just the lady part? newbie to Michelle's writing??! was curious. they are easily listened to. not long at all.
Casinos...hotels...grabbing her by the pussy. This is trying a little too hard to make a political statement.
I guess I should be glad that compared to the other novellas in this series Keeidee doesn’t just give in an let some asshole fuck her and be happy about it because he’s handsome and rich. But instead we see the assault played for shock and the victim becomes an object unto which the assault happens. We don’t get to see her reaction or the lingering affects this situation will have upon her. Will she give up modeling out of fear that any rich dick face will try and assault her? Will she go running back to her stupid boyfriend because she thinks he had a point by saying he should dictate what she wears in order to possess...oops I mean protect...her? Does she ever go forward with the story and then get blamed for the assault because what she was wearing and that she was “asking for it”? 🤮🤮 This really does Keridee a disservice because we don’t get to see how this awful and traumatic moment will affect the rest of her life. But I guess they let you do it when you’re famous

There is a point being made with this story; this much I get. However, it did not hold my interest, the ending was abrupt and horrid (which I get is the point). I think it could have been done in a different manner that was engaging, or perhaps this story just wasn't for me.
Overall, the collection of short stories in The Fairer Sex by Michelle Miller are either amazing or not worth the time. I like that the cover has each woman's name in a different font. As for reading a novel by Michelle, I think I'd pass as she has some toxic blind spots that I don't want to endure.
Candace: A strong start to the series. If I wasn't married and dating, I'd create my own list. 5 stars
Meredith: I was initially laughing, imagining myself in the Whole Foods with Meredith. Then it took a turn that I couldn't decide if it was real or fantasy, which took me out of the story as it was so unrealistic. 2 stars.
Alicia: I hate-listened to this story and enjoyed it. The whole time I kept thinking, "Karma...". The end was really good, I just personally don't think it's fair, for a multitude of reasons. 4 stars.
Heidi: The beginning is hilarious. However, I found it boring (this coming from someone with a degree in accounting; different from finance, but not by much.) I did like when Heidi stopped writing her story and it became about her and Paul. 2 stars.
Clara: I really enjoyed this book. Clara's relationship with Michael, Lawrence, the intimacy, the twist...a lot was packed into this story. 5 stars.
Lauren: I was immediately put off by Lauren, describing her growing up in wealth and in the next breath taking about living in a cutting-edge place that was "far enough from Chinatown that [visitors] weren't put off by the stench." So unnecessarily offensive and filled with privilege, making it hard for me to have any sympathy for her.
I was intensely physically triggered with the description of her bulimia episode, which I hated. If you've never had an ED, then it will definitely give readers/listeners insight as to what it's like. However, I lived it and didn't need to live it again in such detail. 1 star.
Eleanor: this was as good as Clara. I loved how Eleanor dealt with her husband, except for the "we just did" line. 5 stars.
Keridee: I didn't see the point of this book and couldn't get into it. I understand she's pretty, but having other characters in the book who are only described as fat and their occupation is ridiculous. 1 star.
Samara Naeymi was a good narrator, embodying each woman and her story.

Stumbled upon this short story series while I was prepping to get my butt outside to start staining our deck. I downloaded all 8 of these short stories from Audible. What is fun about these is that you can read or listen to them all out of order. They don't tie into each other. These are about 8 different women.
This is the last one! Last, but not least, is Keridee. She has just finished High school. Everything seems to be falling apart until she gets a really good modeling gig. She's working an event for a billionaire real estate mogul who happens to also own a huge modeling agency. What if she can dazzle him and make a name for herself?
I had high hopes for this one. I really wanted Keridee to succeed and thumb her nose at her lame ex and shitty friends...but alas...this did not end great. I won't spoil it, but I was bummed. I needed more story. What did she do next? What happened? Too open-ended.
A disappointing ending installment to Michelle Miller's The Fairest Sex collection. I think this story needed further expansion and fleshing out of what it was trying to say and achieve. Previous installments of this collection tended to have very poignant, on the nose messaging about various aspects of exploring cis female sexuality. Some of the stories had a lot to say about self empowerment in abusive patriarchal situations. This one fell flat, as if it shied away from boldly declaring its intent and left the reader on a somewhat infuriating note. It is "grab them by the *****" embodied, but as a reader I wanted it expanded on in a fearless, emboldening approach. Instead, it left me feeling used and cheap--which I suppose is an artistic approach in its own right. At the end of the day though, it felt disjointed from the rest of the collection and a weak conclusion to an otherwise solid project.
I wish there was more to this story, would of loved to have seen Keridee’s response to the situation she was in. It’s like a non satisfying cliff hanger ending.
Keridee is young and pretty, so pretty everybody hates her. She’s at a modeling gig, and after a couple of bad days things are looking up but reality isn’t all that great. There’s nothing much to this story, rich powerful men treat pretty women like sex objects. We get it. Keridee is young and a little naïve, and swept up in the moment and she doesn’t learn or experience anything she doesn’t really already know. I wish I would of liked the Fairer Sex Collection as a whole, but most of it didn’t appeal to me.
I actually enjoyed this book in the beginning. Keridee is a young aspiring model who, after a break up from her controlling boyfriend, sets off to work on an important modelling project only to find that the project is even more exciting that she could have hoped. And she's caught the eye of an influential billionaire in the process. It's a story of naivete and disillusionment, but it's also packed a little political opinion in there. However, the ending ruined it all for me.
Honestly, the story kind of deserves the 2.5 average rating. I'd join in if half stars was a thing here. Because I was harsh on other entries of The Fairer Sex Amazon Collection, I will go up here and let others balance it out. What I liked is that there is finally some ambiguity on behalf of the protagonist's feelings regarding the encounter. Her thoughts and life choices may not be great but she is young and thus much of that is understandable. Rather than explore this topic though, we cut off this tale in order to end on a gimmicky line.

These fascinating slice of life stories of a variety of modern women show how they rise or are crushed by the circumstances of their modern life.
Keridee is a small town beauty and has skated through her teen years depending on her looks with retail jobs. After a betrayal break-up, Keridee thinks that she'll rise above her limited origins to a new career life with celebrities, only for her good natured innocence to be betrayed and destroyed again. It is doubtful whether her spirit will recover.
Keridee decides to weaponize a prettiness she never asked for and in the process perhaps gets more than she bargained for. The ending turned me off, particularly as we don’t know what happened next. Definitely the least favorite of the series so far.
An interesting, but very short story, and while I knew the twist would come somewhere in the story, I was not expecting the icy chill that struck me at the end. The point hones in well in our present day and age, with comments about these actions made in the news.
I got this collection as part of my Amazon Prime subscription. I see this is the story most people disliked the most, yet I find it to be one of my favorites. Poor Keridee, so young and naive. The last line is a punch in the gut, and I can see how some people may find it offensive, but I think it's right on point in describing a certain real-life person I prefer not to name.
Too short to end with a cliffhanger. Nevertheless, Keridee strikes me as a "have good looks and that's all I need" girl who wants to be admired but tries to act like she doesn't. She also seems to be a "do as a the man says to keep him" type, which is why I feel she wouldn't do anything to stop Brad Tucker.
A presidential tale of a small-town girl hitting the big time when she meets superstar Brad Tucker when on a modelling assignmentnand finds out exactly what famous people think they can do....
