Scientific literature is generated at such an astounding rate nowadays, that within a span of six years, from the publication of the sixth to the seventh edition, most chapters have undergone a major revision. The diagnostic criteria, management guidelines, and in some cases, even the aetiological basis of the disease, have changed. These changes have been incorporated and the seventh edition updated according to recent advances in the subject. A new chapter on liver disorders and a section on vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue in the chapter on maternal infections have also been added. What has not changed, and what makes this book different, is the emphasis on practical aspects of providing safe and evidence-based obstetric care.
