Books. Reading. Writing. Playing with the dog. That’s my life, in a nutshell. I love discovering new authors and new trends. Hello Reverse Harem novels!!!! Where have you been all my life? I love everything sci-fi, paranormal, and fantasy. I eat enough chocolate that at this point, I’m probably made of chocolate. OK, chocolate and coffee.

WHAT’S NEW: I’ve just published OATH FORGER, a soon-to-be bestselling, post-apocalyptic, reverse harem, sci-fi romance serial. Ha! Say that three times fast. J

WHAT ELSE: If you’d rather try a standalone sci-fi romance from me, grab WARLORD. And make sure you don’t sit near anything flammable while reading it. Because it’s HOT. Whatever level of heat you’re thinking right now? Double it. (Not recommended if you don’t have AC, or at least a ceiling fan.) You’ve been warned.

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A DRAGON: Check out DRAGON LORD, my dragon-shifter romance. And be prepared to lose your heart to a sexy, grumpy dragon. The best kind!

MY WISH LIST: (In case my fairy grandmother is reading this.)

For the OATH FORGER series to find readers who love these stories as much as I do.

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this Nia Mars book. While it takes place in the same universe as Oath Forger (don’t worry if you haven’t read it; the references are only in passing), I didn’t like it nearly as well. Maybe it was the too-easy resolution to the external threat, the generic, worn-out character tropes, and the lack of a real villain or maybe it was the numerous typos. Either way, I’m kinda glad this was a one-shot and I (hopefully) won’t see these characters again.

Warning: Ms. Mars’ coy disclaimer about a hero who “takes what he wants” and the following heads up that “If that kind of fantasy doesn’t appeal to you, you might not enjoy this story” doesn’t provide a very straightforward message. So, to be clear; the sex was frequent, quite explicit, and in the beginning, Meela’s consent was of a dubious nature (procured by her stepmother through misinformation and deceit). For some reason in fantasy and sci-fi, dub con doesn’t bother me nearly as much as it does in ‘real world’ romance. Lukar was very dominant in their first few encounters and he was a dirty talker. I know that’s a turn-off for some people, which is why I bother to mention it. Things do end up on a more even footing by the end, however, and the consent issues are addressed.

Meela and Lukar were about as stereotypical as you can get without calling them John and Jane Smith. She was the feisty, defiant princess determined not to submit to the conquering barbarian, while he was the battle-hardened warrior who rose from an orphaned nobody to a magnificent leader respected by all who serve under him. She bows to no one and neither does he… except, eventually, to each other. Both had characteristics that ‘surprised’ the other: her care and concern for her people and his educated, scholarly side. There’s also The Childhood Best Friend (Captain Selep and Tek) and the Evil Stepmother (Belandra). Our Generic Villain was just that and he was so easily/quickly dealt with that I almost don’t know why Ms. Mars bothered to include him. There was a surprise involving him—I won’t call it a twist because it ultimately didn’t matter—but that was about all that was interesting about him.

While the premise of the conquered falling for the conqueror was one I’ve encountered before, Ms. Mars gave her story some fresh touches and humor. There were moments I found myself giggling (usually at Lukar’s dry sarcasm), and the descriptions of Tembria were vivid enough to set a good backdrop. I enjoyed the basic elements of Warlord, even if I did wish for more development and definition in the characters.

I’m not sure what happened between Oath Forger and Warlord, but the editing quality was like day and night. Where Oath Forger was basically spotless, Warlord had typos all over the place. Incorrect word choice seemed to be the biggest issue (passed vs. past, of vs. off, dryer vs. drier), but incorrect tense (usually present when past was needed) was also a problem. There was also at least one instance of mixed up pronouns (“He ground herself against her behind.”). I’m disappointed that more care wasn’t taken to clean up the manuscript prior to publication.

Bottom line: Warlord was a so-so read with a number of elements that could trigger or turn off some readers. I don’t not recommend it, but it definitely wouldn’t be the first Nia Mars book I’d suggest.

Crude, Lewd, Barbarian🐺 A$$ Loves💘 His Princess👸

Lukar🐺🍆🌋🔪🔫, a Barbarian Warlord in space, is sent by his Emperor back to rule the planet he has just conquered. He is to take the vanquished 👑King's daughter👸 and make her his consort.

Lukar🐺🍆🌋🔪🔫 gets off on the wrong foot with the virgin Princess👸, and although he is infatuated💓 with her, he cannot get the words out. Instead he basically uses her body for his own pleasure their first night together, and after that, too. Part of the problem is he has never known any woman but a paid prostitute, or camp woman.

The Princess, Meela👸💋, allows his attentions, but since he is such a rude klutz he hurts her. Lukar🐺🍆🌋🔪🔫 is so inarticulate and crude, he doesn't have a clue about what he has done, and the mistakes he has made.

Lukar🐺🍆🌋🔪🔫 is fiercely protective of her and deep in love💘, but Meela👸💋 doesn't know it. He can't seem to get the words in his head out of his mouth and into her ears.

Then Meela👸💋 runs away..... Can Lukar🐺🍆🌋🔪🔫 fix this mess he's made of both of their love💘 lives, and get her back while regaining the good will of the people?

This is definitely an Adult sci-fi XXX romance. It's well written and fast paced.
Scenes of Dubious consent! Since these are aliens, they don't obey human laws of decency towards others.

Explored exploitation

This is the first book I’ve read that included rape but presented it in a way that’s accidental. Accidental rape... almost sounds like he slipped on the way out of the shower and his penis fell into her...

In my opinion, the hero was also a selfish lover. I suppose he wasn’t necessarily selfish. However, he did seem pretty clueless when it comes to how female orgasms come about, because he had a very wham bam thank you ma’am style.

Even with the accidental rape and selfish lover, I still enjoyed this read. It explored exploitation in a thought provoking way. How much can you oppress a group of people before they fight back? To what extent can the oppressed turn the tables before they’ve crossed the ethical line of wrongness? What are people willing to sacrifice for the good of the whole?

This was a compelling read. 3.5/5 stars.

Enjoyable

I don’t think it’s really a dark romance but it didn’t detract from the story for me. I liked both of the main characters. Interesting enough that I read it in one setting and want to read more from this author.

Warlord

Really enjoyed this story. Plenty of action, but emotive at the same time. A tale of love conquering all. A short tale, but not too short.

A quick Sci-Fi romance read.

Lukar is a conquering warlord under the Emperor's rule.
Going into battle and taking over planets is all that he has known for several years.
When the Emperor tells him he will be taking over the last kingdom he took, Lukar isn't thrilled to say the least.
Meela is the heir to the kingdom now ruled by a brute.
She is to be his prize, but not if she can help it.

This story was better than I expected.
I've just dived into the realm of sci-fi romances and this one took me by surprise.

I did feel like some answers were left unanswered, but it just may be my addiction to know every little thing about the characters that leave me feeling this way.

This was a quick read for me.
I found it entertaining and enjoyable.

If you are looking for a sci-fi read and something quick, this is the story for you.
I don't think you will be disappointed when you pick it up.

A little darK in romance until the end, then it's more less-dark

A good Read once you get past the encounters where the warlord takes the princess sexually without her full consent; meaning she thinks she has to submit sexually to ensure her people's safety and he is so overwhelmed by her physical beauty he just takes what looks to be freely given. And he takes her in every way! A little darK but then she runs away to find out there is much darker me- thank God she is able to get away before she is raped in a no-consent way!!

A quick read. Not too dark even if it was a bit of dubious consent at the beginning- it was done through her sense of duty to her people, political reasons and an evil step mother stirring the pot not because he was straight up raping her.
No, she didn’t want to sleep with him. He killed her father, but she doesn’t see an alternative option at the time. She soon warms up to him and he is very sorry when he finds out she was tricked into having sex with him... so. Anyway I liked it although I’m sure it will make a few people outraged.

WARLORD !

This review is an honest review by me without any promises from the author or publisher of this book ! This is a romantic book with heavy doses of hot sex! For mature readers only due to mature sexual content . It is an easy read due to the fluid writing of the author . The emperor gives Lukar ,a warlord this governorship for services rendered as a reward. He meets the Princess Meela after overthrowing her planet and killing her father. Soon the fine line between hate and love becomes blurred ! Loved this book . Please read it for yourself !

This was a freebie, and I LOVE a warlord hero, so I gave this a go - I didn’t go in with very high expectations, and I’ll admit I’m probably more forgiving in my ratings for a futuristic romance, but it was not bad. Liked both main characters, but for me the romance seemed too quick and just didn’t quite click. I did really appreciate seeing Lukar’s compassion and how he was trying to make changes for the better for Tembria. Add in some Resistance, and you had a not bad, but also not memorable story.

Great book!

I really enjoyed this book!! Lukar and Meela didn’t come together in a conventional way at all but I loved seeing their budding romance. Lukar is a warlord, by he has a sweet soft spot for Meela that is just precious! And how could Meela resist him?! Read to find out :) Warlord is a cute/sweet story with an unconventional beginning & is full of steam and action!

Fav new author

OMG I was dying for a good story with less fight scenes, less love scenes, but more interaction and build up between the characters. I found all on a fluke just by trying out a new author.

Good, fast read

A little on the short, this was a fast paced read with some action and some humor (mostly in the last third of the book).

A decent read don't really see how it qualifies as a dark romance but anyways if you're a KU subscriber check it out
