Ty wants to fly, but that possibility was shattered years ago.

Ty: I'm a hybrid shifter, a freak who doesn’t fit. My wing is damaged, so the ravens don't accept me. Pumas don't want me 'cause I shift to raven. I spend my nights drinking my memories away or screwing them into oblivion.

But the most glorious male wolf I've ever seen needs my help.

Dex is half-starved and rough around the edges, but I’m going to make sure Half Moon Territory gives this wolf a home. He’s been protecting us for weeks, from what I’m not sure.

He says he doesn't want me but I know it’s a lie. Yeah, I'm a flirt, the kind of shifter no one in their right mind would want for a mate, but I'll make this alpha wolf beg for me. I’m already begging for him.

Dex wants a home, a peaceful life and maybe a dozen donuts.

Dex: My pack kicked me out, my mate died in the Shifter Wars, and I've survived three years living rough. But I’ve discovered a new territory in the Santa Cruz Mountains and it may turn out to be the kind of home I've searched for.

Only this crazy raven shifter keeps throwing himself at me. Yeah, he's hot as hades and he makes me smile, even laugh, but I may never be ready to settle down again. Especially not with a shifter who takes anyone with a beating heart to his bed. No. If Ty wants to be with me, he's going to have to follow my very specific rules. Alpha rules.

On top of everything, dangerous members of my old wolf pack have been sniffing around my new territory. Looks like I’m going to have to organize the defense of Half Moon and protect its citizens, especially Ty, who’s teasing his way into my heart with every smile.

Flying Hard
Marie Booth

Tyler is a hybrid. He's 1/2 raven and 1/2 puma. After his family banished him he found a great home and good friends in Half Moon, a large territory that combines all sorts of shifters. When he discovers an Alpha wolf watching their territory he's immediately in lust over him.

Alpha Dex was thrown out of his pack with his mate for being gay. After his mate dies in the shifter wars Dex roams far and wide searching out a new home. He thinks he might have found it in Half Moon, but he has a long road ahead of him when many of its shifters have had bad experiences with wolves. He's attracted to the hybrid, Ty, but feels protective of him once he finds out Ty's past horrors.

I love Ty and Dex together. They have great chemistry. I liked the background story and action with Dex's previous pack too. I felt bad for both of their past histories, especially Ty's. He just needed so much loving. There was only one part of the book I hated....

The book is in mostly Tyler's POV, but a part of it is in Dex's.

*I voluntarily read this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*

Trigger warning: Rape

Ty is damaged both physically and emotionally. Everyone believes him to be the town whore and Ty plays the part well, believing himself to be unworthy to be any better.

Dex is drawn to Ty but he wants so much more than a hook up. Can Dex show Ty his true worth?

Ty’s past and the things he went through, broke my heart. His life has been full of disappointment, hurt, pain and even abandonment. Life hasn’t been good to him yet one wolf changes his luck. Dex opens Ty’s heart yet does he dare to dream of a HEA?

Dex saw right through Ty’s mask and everything he hid behind it. He was patient yet firm with Ty especially, when Ty called himself names.

Dex and Ty had a strong connection and great chemistry. Their steamy encounters were intimate, breathtaking and captured their growing feelings for one another ever so perfectly.

The end of the story was nicely done and tied things up really well.

I really enjoyed this book and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

This began with rapid fire dialogue between characters that left me confused as to who was speaking at any given moment. A few rough patches of editing needed but overall the story was pleasant. Dex and Ty made for a very unusual couple to say the least but that out of box thinking the author took with mixing of species/shifters was genius. Who’ve ever heard of a Puma and a Raven having kids? Dex was definitely an Alpha that could take over with compassionate feelings and fair judgement. Ty might have started out as flighty and seen as a tease with no commen sense but he proved himself worthy of respect once he realized his own self worth. The exotic assortment of badgers, bears , owls, tigers and other shifters barely ever mentioned in any other novels was fun to read about.

3.5 🌟

I bought this title for free in Amazon recently and it was a nice discovery. More now that the second book is out!

It can't be denied the fact that I'm an huge shapeshifters fan. This type of stories work for me and I enjoyed very much discovering the completely different worlds each author creates around them.

This time we have a mixed shifters story, which I recently discovered is one of my favorites. Having more than one animal shifter gives the story many shades and details: wolfs are like this, tigers are like that, birds are that way and so on.

The story settles in Half Moon, a town fool of different kind of shifters that live along each other in harmony... Which is not the usual in the shifter world. Out there in the world are more strict packs that wouldn't accept things that aren't "normal", such as homosexuality or breeding with other shifter species.

Ty(ler) lives there as a hybrid shifter, both raven and puma. He doesn't exactly fit and has a sad and traumatic backstory that includes rape and physical abuse. But things change for him when a lone wolf shifter makes an appearance: Dax. Can he trust a lonely wolf?

Both Ty and Dax alongside the other citizens of Half Moon will have to fight against a terrible enemy that threatens their security.

The story was pretty interesting because of various things. For starters, the story is a nice mix between a fast and slow romance. Both Ty and Dax click fast and the first one is pretty bold in what he needs and wants... But Dax puts the brakes on their advances, giving the reader time to get used to them as something more than just two guys that are attracted for each other. I liked how both of them have past stories that defines them and how they grow for the better after meeting each other.

And on the other hand, the world building was mild but interesting. There are a couple of nice hints of past shifters wars that changed the world and also hints of an illness that killed many of them. All these can be interesting if developed more in future books and also give the story an special background that differentiates this series from others.

I'm so glad I already have the second book downloaded on my kindle because I'm dying to know more about Rav and Caden. Their story promises to be completely different from Ty and Dax's but also full of drama and traumatic pasts.

What an interesting world this author has created. I have read some shifter romances before but I feel like this is the one with the most fleshed out universe. The couple is great too, they definitely feel like whole people with real feelings. The spicy bits were a nice mix of hot and heartfelt. The emotion of creating a mate bond was expressed very well. To top that off the storyline of improving and protecting their community kept things interesting throughout. As a package, this book was 5 star enjoyable for me.

There were a few things that bothered me. The biggest issue was that the third act relationship crisis came out of nowhere. To the point that I read it, said “wait, what?”, and had to read again. And not in a good way, in a that needed to be at least partially on page way. You threw the transmission entirely out of gear. The only thing that saved it at that point was that the characters reacted very much in character and in a believable way. The second thing that bothered me was a very small part of the story, but it stuck in my craw. A female character comes to these two guys when she believes herself to be pregnant after being raped and is tentatively asking about terminating the pregnancy. The medical professional of the pair doesn’t tell her what her options are and they both just give her reasons she should carry the pregnancy and become a mother at 15. Dex thinks to himself that he will help her, whatever she decides, but he doesn’t say that to her. It felt like pressure presented as support and that left a bad taste in my mouth. Lastly, there were a few times when the character’s backstories felt like info dumps. The multiple tragic events should have been revealed more smoothly. Normally these issues would bump a rating down a star, but I enjoyed it too much overall to do that here.

Ty was never fully accepted by his family or his kind due to being a half breed. He also was mistreated by his own kind for being noth raven and pumba and was blamed for what happened to him and for not being able to fly in his raven form. Due to tys struggles, he doesn't realize his own worth and devalues himself by taking different lovers all the time but the he meets DeX and everything changes for him. But not just him but for his people as well. Dex lost the love of his life and ran from his pack after they were responsible for her misfortunes along with many others. He ran i to ty and his people and became accepting pretty quickly. They took him in and made him apart of their family and ty was immediately taken by him but Dex refused to be just another notch on his belt. Dex was determined to show ty his worth and that he was worth being loved. Ty makes a mistake and it scared he will lose the Dex forever and he knew he couldn't bare to lose the most important person to him. This was a fun and quick read and I really enjoyed how ty was two different kind of shifters. You don't see that very often and tys leader was a girl which you also don't see in these types of books. Ty and DeX felt immediate chemistry and attraction to another but dax was scared to risk his heart again until he realized that loving ty just might be worth it. Dex was just what ty needed to realize he was worth so much more than he's been made to believe.

It was a pleasure to read this fascinating & intriguing MM shifter romance. The plot is well-written & intriguing with suspenseful incidents.

This is my 1st read and review for this author and wow what a fantastic story I enjoyed it immensely. OMG it broke my heart with everything that Ty went through in his past and he doesn’t believe that he deserves any kind of love so he gets himself a reputation in town, he’s also a hybrid shifter who believes himself to be a freak because he can’t fly. Dex is a lone alpha wolf he lost his mate in the pack wars and he’s been kicked out of his pack so he has been living it rough but now he’s found a new home. Ty wants Dex but Dex is weary of him because Ty will sleep with anyone with a pulse, there’s danger ahead and Dex has been trying to keep the town safe but things are escalating so in the end will Dex be able to keep Ty and the town safe?. This is a fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

DNF 18% audiobook.

Ty was annoying with constantly being sex crazed and only wanted to get bent over. Dex had his antequated pack mentality too.

I stopped after Ty asked Dex to have sex with him and Dex said he didn’t want to have sex with the town whore. Then the next scene Ty was upset about it and Dex apologized and Ty went right back to thinking of ways to have sex with Dex like if he hadn’t been insulted.

I get it Ty, you love having sex but I guess I was hoping for some type of self worth. Not to mention during the meeting with his pack leader he kept pointing out their defects in front of Dex. I get that he wants the alliance but you don’t throw your pack under the bus and argue that in front of someone outside your pack because you want to sleep with him.

This kind of pack dynamic wasn’t for me.

Ty has been watching the wolf shifter outside the fence and when he turns human Ty is captivated.
The lone wolf who run with the natural wolves outside the boundary fence has attracted Ty's attention and he spends time watching his actions. This day he gives the wolf a sandwich and when he shifts Ty is shocked by the gorgeous man revealed. He introduces himself as Dax and asks for a meeting with the leader to discuss bartering between them. Ty is almost drooling over the hunky man but serious topic need to be tabled including that Dax has spotted wolf track that belong to his viscous old pack. A MM shifter romance to relax and enjoy.

Loved these guys, still have lots of questions about the world the writer has built but it looks as if this is the first book of a new series. Dex and Tyler are very different characters but strong their own way both struggling to deal with painful pasts. Tyler by sleeping with anything that moves in order to forget his pain with a slick front that Dek sees through. Together they work together to protect Tyler's settlement. A unique place that welcomes all types of shifters. So some interesting characters introduced. Good story and great characters

This is the journey they must travel, join them, the bears, owls, tigers, badgers and others in their journey to make their world better.

Nicely written! Very diverse species collection. Tyler has an exaggerated reputation which he does not refute and which he does try to live down to. He has not had the happiest, best life and has low self esteem. Dex, Alpha, wolf exiled from his pack, is attracted to Ty but wants to help him see his value. They each have heavy baggage but help each other learn to set it down. They were severely challenged by their environment while trying to heal themselves and each other. Nice story, really pulls you in. You feel you are experiencing their pain. Kudos to the author. I received an ARC from Booksprout for a review.

Flying Hard is the story of Dex and Ty. Dex is an exiled wolf trying to find a new home. He's lived alone scrounging and scraping to survive. And Ty is trying to deal with being a hybrid shifter, not really belonging to either the Ravens or the Pumas. He lives his life by following his libido into any bed that's willing. When Dex realizes his former pack is threatening his new chance at a home, he and Ty must save the village while coming to terms with their chemistry which is HOT.

Flying Hard: Breath of Air Collection - A M/M Shifter Romance: Santa Cruz Shifters Book 1 by Marie Booth is a wonderful story that I have read. This was a pretty good PRN romance. I loved Dex and Ty. This was a truly unique story line for me. I have never really read about a raven hybrid shifter. Ty was cuteness to the fullest and had such a sad story. I loved both guys and felt their immediate chemistry. I really enjoyed how this author worked this story. The characters and supporting characters were really written well. Loved them and totally happy they got their HEA.

What I was hoping for - a sex positive book about a raven shifter who enjoyed a healthy sex life getting together with a possessive wolf shifter.

What this was - raven shifter uses sex and alcohol to cope with past sexual assault and parental abuse and as a result is slut shamed within his dystopian shifter community. Wolf shifter cures him of this through the power of love. Therapy consists of making raven shifter say nice things about himself during sex.

It was readable but usually the type of story I avoid when it’s the main plot.

I liked this book. Ty, a hybrid outcast, has done the one things since being shunned by both the Puma and Raven clans that he feels he is good at, have lots of sex. Enter Dax, another outcast lone Alpha wolf who is hot af. Ty flirts hard and Dax decides to give them a shot but with stipulations cause he's not interested in one night or sharing. The relationship between the two was cute and I liked following the two of them and their confidence and self worth evolved and as they both became respected members of the pack.

Excellent world building and strong characters

Booth creates a world you can picture clearly in your mind. Being from the area, I saw the luscious landscape in my mind as the story moved on. Tyler and Dex were strong characters who found within the other the love they needed to heal. I struggled a little with their relationship in the beginning, but their character arcs were both satisfying. If you dig shifters and dystopian settings, this is a series to watch out for!

Good Story and Romance

The story was enjoyable though a bit lacking in background for this different shifter world. More history would have greatly added to the tale. There were the usual grammatical errors though fewer than many others. Reasonable character development for Ty and Dex and a HFN ending to this book.

A pretty good read.
This ended up being a hurt comfort romance, with a fluffy flourish. However I felt that the book did not explore it's darkest elements as much as it could have.

The first third of this book is really good. But as a relationship is formed and the tension is broken and it slowly starts running downhill for me.
Overall a fun read with interesting and compelling characters.

Alt-world paranormal shifters

Booth presents a trifecta with post-apocalyptic world where shifters run on the American west coast. Rogue alpha wolf Dex comes to Half Moon, a multi-shifter community and triggers major changes while courting Tyler, a hybrid without true purpose. A series, characters are introduced and developed, hinting at a longer story.

Not the best written book, but it was a quick and fun read. The troubled past of the main characters makes for some sweet bonding moments. I definitely would’ve preferred a slower burn. The secondary characters could’ve used more time and attention as well, given how diverse the world of Half-Moon is.

Good start

Good shifter book with interesting characters.
I liked both of the MCs, but I did agree with Dex about not liking how Tyler described himself in the beginning.
Curious about the reclusive tiger shifter now.

Ty is complicated and troubled. He has a lot of baggage. Dex is a good guy and just what the town needs. He helps Ty and the town to become more of what they were meant to be. The story feels rushed, maybe because its short. Because of that I enjoyed it a little less than if were flushed out.
