After almost crashing my car in the Alaskan wilderness, I wake up in the muscled arms of one of the locals. He’s a rugged pilot bringing supplies to my research station, but he’s got more than work on his mind.
His eyes tell me he likes giving orders. And I like taking them.
Caleb is the most intense man I’ve ever met. When his plane breaks down and traps us together, his untamed dominance emerges. I’m his, and he knows it. And he demands total submission. We’re trapped together, but it won’t last forever.
He’s a beast of a man, and I’m in his grip.
CALEB:
If he wants to survive out here, he’ll do as I say.
I’m divorced, straight, and single, but those labels disappear when I see Elliot. He’s soft and innocent—and I have him all to myself. He’s not a pushover, but surviving in Alaska is no easy task. He needs a strong pair of hands to show him the ropes.
Elliot awakens something in me. The desire to dominate him, to bend him to my will and hear him beg for more makes me feel alive. And I love it.
I’m a hardened man with a sturdy body, but as much as I bury it, part of me wants to spoil him—and have him scream my name all night. Doesn’t matter that Elliot’s a man; he’s the only one I want in my cockpit.
In the wilderness, what I say goes.
This is the first book in the Submission series. It can be enjoyed as a standalone with no cliffhanger. Readers can expect an extra-spicy MM romance with several steamy scenes. Heat level: 10.
I want to start off by saying that the author has outdone himself with this book. His writing is poetic when describingthe wonders of Alaska, also the feelings each of the two MCs are experiencing. This book flew by simply because reading it was such an incredible joy. Now a note for anyone who might be thinking of skipping this book due to the title and series title. Don't, the relationship between Caleb and Elliot could best be described as "Submission Lite" other than Elliot calling Caleb "Sir" and looking to him for guidance their relationship is pretty standard. And the sex (which BTW is BLISTERING HOT and there is A LOT of it is closer to vanilla then hardcore D/s. So READ THIS BOOK! I absolutely adore Elliot, while on the surface he tries to look confident and that might be true confidence in the lab. Once he is thrown into his new situation alone in Alaska his confidence goes south in a heartbeat. The he meets Caleb who has flown in supplies for him and here is someone who has confidence and knowledge enough for them both. So of course he is gonna let Caleb take the lead! What results is some of the hottest sex I have ever read! For those of you who want the feels, they come as well as the two get to know one another and fall hard. Watching each of them slowly find themselves becoming better and happier as they draw closer was just wonderful. The only downside of this book is eventually I got to the end and it was over. Thank goodness there are more coming in this series in the future! I can't wait!
I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
Can’t say I loved this - I guess it wasn’t what I expected as far as D/s is concerned. This was far too soft & fluffy. Perhaps the blurb should have been more focused on “ guys who discovered they had a submissive or dominant interest “
Punto.
This is fine. Very insta-love but I didn't super mind that. I just found it to be dull at parts. The summary made me think that they would have to survive in the wilderness or something when really there is very little conflict.
One petty complaint I have is that the PhD parts of this felt under-researched. Elliot is getting a PhD at one university and there are discussions of him just transferring to a different one. This is not how PhD's work and this just annoyed me a lot.
With regards to the characters. I thought they were fine. Nothing special but I did like their connections to each other once I got past the insta-love. I just never felt like I learned anything about them. Caleb is a pilot and Alaskan and Elliot is a scientist. I wish we had dived a little bit more into their personality and backgrounds.
As stated, the plot is not very present in this. There was definitely a little bit of overwriting, especially at the beginning. The descriptions of Alaska were very drawn out. I appreciate the attempt to really set the scene but it just felt overly flattering of Alaska and eventually it started to feel weird that the author was talking about Alaska SO MUCH.
I doubt that I'll read anything else in this series but I might read other books by this author. I didn't hate this or anything and it was a very quick read. It's just that this book didn't blow me away.
I’m not a huge fan of insta-love but I liked these two guys. Heavy on the sex and sweetness, this was an easy read. Not too deep but enough there to keep me interested till the end.
The blurb for this one really drew me in! Jason Collins is a new to me author, but I love M/M stories where one of the characters hasn't always been gay. Something about them being straight but meeting the right person just sucks me in every time, so I wanted to give this one a shot. Unfortunately, Obedience didn't work for me. I felt no connection to the story or characters and there was little to hold my interest. This one took me days to get through and I only finished by skimming to the end. Things were repetitive, the same thoughts repeated over and over to the point that I skipped whole paragraphs and didn't miss anything. As much as I wanted to love Caleb and Eliot, I just didn't. This might be for others, but it sadly didn't work for me. Also, those looking for a BDSM story with more traditional D/s material, this one was very light on that and wouldn't be what I would consider a true BDSM novel.
Obedience by Jason Collins is the first book in The Submission series and a delicious start it is. A well-written, descriptive and captivating story, with strong and amazing characters. The chemistry between Caleb and Elliot is incredible, with just a light touch of BDSM... definitely a fantastic and satisfying read.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation
I love a good smutty book from time to time and this worked. I usually don’t like insta-love stories but I really liked Caleb and Elliot and their chemistry with each other. I really like how safe sex was a big deal in this story because a lot of stories ditch the latex after one scene. One problem I had was the usage of coconut oil as lube with condoms. Oil is always a bad idea with condoms. Either way, I can’t wait to read the next book.
Okay, so, this is just porn. If you're into that, then this is a good book for you. I didn't see much romance in it. Just a lot of sexual imagery that wasn't even that good, and a lot of trying to convince the reader that Alaska is nice to visit (or live in). Okay. Agreed. Just stop beating me over the head with it. There was lot of talk about the dangers of living in the Alaskan wilderness, but other than spotting a bear from a safe distance, that wasn't even interested in the characters, nothing dangerous even came close to happening for them. There was no real preamble to the characters sexual relationship. It just basically happened, and it was, quite a few times it seemed, one sided. I would even describe the first time they got together as sexual assault. It did have a lot of potential, but, unfortunately, it didn't quite get there. Now, I'm not even interested in the other books in the series.
Another cute, adorable story from the author. The story was easy to read and the main characters were easy to like. No angst no drama. Just a simple easy read.
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the romance between Caleb and Elliot. Caleb was a pilot in Alaska and meets Elliot when he arrives to do research on the local wildlife at a research station and Caleb helps he get there. When Caleb returns to his plane, he finds the landing gear damaged and a storm is approaching, so he is stranded for a few days. Caleb goes back to the research station and Elliot tells him he can stay there with him. Caleb has never been with a man before, but there is something about Elliot that draws him to him. Elliot is attracted to the mountain of a man named Caleb and when Caleb makes a move, Elliot wants to do anything to please him. Caleb has a dominate side and Elliot is a natural submissive to him. They spend the next week growing closer and forming an amazing connection. When word comes that the spare parts are on the way for the plane and Caleb knows he has to go back to work, he wants to find a way to continue seeing Elliot. Elliot is overworked by his supervisor and when he learns another team are going to take over, he has to decide what to do next. I really loved this story. I loved Caleb, i think he was a big man with a big heart. Elliot and Caleb got along from the beginning and they had a lot in common. The story was set in Alaska and reading about the love they both had for the wilderness made me want to go there. Another great one from Jason. Well done.
Being a City Boy I have for much of my adult life out of the closet enjoying Road Trips and being in the wonder of nature. A long time dream fantasy has been of "Ranger Rick" joining me. The thoughts of skinny dipping in streams and hot bodies in the woods have been choice erotica for my mind's eye.
OBEDIENCE by Jason Collins has built on my own fantasy with this Science Nerd cum Alaskan Bush researcher tale. Over his head in the wilds of the Midnight Sun Elliot lands in solitude . The hot and hunky Bush Pilot Caleb drops off supplies and the woodscraft needed to survive the terrain, the bedroom and thrill of becoming intimates.
One of the many twists to this written fantasy is the need for broad-shouldered safety and the need to let-go of relative control. This comes about in the bondage of vulnerability and care taking. The struggle to survive and receive their need of validation.
J. Collins has mastered the interplay of hot : strident, sensuous : manly, and believable character development : a tight wild plot! As first installment of a SUBMISSION TRILOGY I look forward to reading more In the next few nights with my kindle in SUBMISSION books 2 & 3 in the privacy of my head.
Delicious journey filled with discovery and love. Both of these MC's are smart, capable men, driven career wise and neither has had much luck with relationships. These guys find their connection intense and they explore their dynamics of submission and dominance in the bedroom. There is very light BDSM play explored as they find what works for them.
Elliot and Caleb are so steamy together and their connection creates a beautiful compatibility in their lives. I enjoyed how these guys talked and worked together to find their way. i also really enjoyed the description of the country-side and the people in the story. i would love to visit Alaska and this was a delightful peek into a beautiful land. The supporting characters were interesting and i hope we get to see more of them.
This is book one of the Submission Series and i am looking forward to the next story.
One of my favorite quotes of the book is: 'We would converge upon the same spot, wherever that place might fall in the universe. At the end of the day, we would be together. We would find each other. Now and again throughout the span of space and time. His soul belonged to mine and mine to his. ... '
Elliot and Caleb come from two different worlds and are complete opposites in almost every way. But when they meet, none of that matters. They just clicked from the very beginning. Like they had finally found that missing piece of themselves they desperately desired.
Elliot finds submitiing to Caleb is as easy as breathing and something he craves fiercely. Just as fierce as Caleb's need to dominate and possess Elliot.
I enjoyed this book and like this author a lot. Obedience is a quick, steamy read about two men meeting and quickly understanding that they are meant to be together. I liked how there was no drama or unnecessary conflicts about how fast they got together or developed feelings for one another. They were surprised of course, but they accepted the gift they were given, true love. I do wish we were given more minor details in a couple places. For example, I would've appreciated a better description of the guys and what they looked like: eye color, hair color, etc. Some details are given, but in my opinion, it wasn't enough to paint a clear picture of them. That doesn't take away from this being a great book though.
This is a sizzling hot romance of not just opposites attract but opposites attract then combust in white hot melting heat.
I’ll quickly cut to the chase. Elliot is a grad student sent to a remote research lab in Alaska by his flakey boss, Dr. Murphy. He meets Caleb, a ruggedly handsome Alaskan pilot who comes to Elliot’s rescue. How you may ask? Well, you’ll find out when you read the book. Let’s just put it this way. They meet and then.....WOW!
This book has all the traits I’ve come to love about this author. He takes you to a place, in this case it’s Alaska, where I have visited by the way, which he describes in perfect detail (flora, fauna and food = oh my!) like he’s not only been there but he’s lived there. He then includes an array of local characters to support the star attractions, namely Elliot and Caleb.
Everything works in this book and I can’t wait to read what follows in this series.
enjoyed this first book in a new series from Jason Collins! I liked Caleb and Elliot and despite how different they are, they are perfect for each other. I also really enjoyed the scenery in this book, Jason really paints a picture!
There is an instant connection between Elliot and Caleb and when Caleb ends up staying with Elliot due to s storm, it’s a chance for them to act on it. Over the next few days the two men really get to know each other and fall for each other. They share a great connection, in and out of the bedroom and want to make a life together. I really liked what these guys brought out in each other! Caleb finally gets to be the romantic he really is and Elliot learns to stand up for himself and sees his value.
I really liked the passion and emotion in this story, Caleb and Elliot are very easy to love! This is a great start to a new series and I’m definitely looking forward to more!
Elliot arrives in Alaska to work on a project for his doctorate degree. He quickly meets a pilot, Caleb, when he tries to pick up equipment and passes out instead. Elliot is a lab rat with little time for a social life. Caleb has never been interested in a guy, and he hasn't been involved with anyone for a long time. When they get snowed in together, they get to know each other really well and realize that they love being together. Caleb likes to dominate, and Elliot is more than happy to submit. Although those dynamics were in this book, it was pretty mild overall. This book moved a bit fast; it takes place mostly over a week or so, but the guys form a very strong bond who want to pursue it to the fullest. I really enjoyed reading about these guys, and the writing was excellent.
I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC provided by the author
Wow! deceptively simple, and engaging The title had me a bit apprehensive because I was unsure of what to expect but, a few paragraphs into the book, I realized that It wasn’t what I had imagined it would be. A scholarly type and an outdoorsy rugged hunk couldn’t be more different and yet Caleb and Elliot are a perfect fit. This book is about understanding dominant and submissive roles. It’s about Caleb and Elliot discovering each other and finding that comfort zone in their relationship. We see them express their desires in their own mutually satisfying way, and it’s sexy as heck. Loved the plot, the camaraderie between the characters, the humor, and those moments that broke my heart were just as exhilarating because Elliot finally stood up for himself. **ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! **
Obedience By Jason Collins Main Characters: Caleb and Elliot I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author. 4 out of 5 stars Elliot is arriving at a research station in Alaska and Caleb is a divorced pilot and is dropping supplies there when he has plane trouble. Caleb ends up staying at the station and he finds out he is dominant and Elliot likes that and is a little submissive. This story has very light BDSM. This author is wonderful with all his descriptions of Alaska. Both men have careers they are passionate about but they quickly become passionate about each other. Lots of sex between the two men and a hea ending. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
🌾Alaskan bush pilot and academic: a match made in heaven or a summer fling? February 17, 2019 Format: Kindle Edition 4.5 🌟stars 🔥👬🔥 I loved the rural Alaska setting for this spicy MM romance between two strangers thrown together by Mother Nature and a faulty plane part. The power exchange aspect was not violent or too extreme, but these young men have unquenchable libidos and take advantage of their isolation in the Alaskan bush to explore their attraction. Steamy times 🔥🔥 mixed with a bit of work-related frustration and the beauty of Alaska's long summer 🌄 twilights. Young PHD candidate Eliot is so enraptured by the locale and his dreamboat, commanding, bush pilot that it's hard to believe he could bear to abandon them and return to his studies in the lower 48!
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. Elliott is sent to Alaska on a research assignment. He has no idea of what life is like in Alaska in winter. Caleb is a charter pilot flying supplies up to Elliott. Caleb is not gay and never really thought about it, but when he meets Elliott his interest is sparked. Due to a snow storm the two are stuck and spend time getting to really know each other. I liked how as they got closer it was not about labels, it was about how they meshed together, how they understood each other and complimented each other. I loved how Caleb gave Elliott the courage to stand up for himself and do what was right for himself. This was a wonderful read and I look forward to more from Jason Collins.
Misleading title and cover. Not much bdsm at all--in fact it's pretty vanilla in the best sense of the word--sweet and warm, and it's like the most romantic romance ever. The sort of thing I used to devour in m/f as a kid--rugged outdoor masculine and nerdy scientist MCs. The sex is hot and so is the power exchange but it's much more of a love story than the packaging shows. It's got the sort of openhearted optimism I read romance for. You get your HEA and then some, and quite a bit of fantasy fulfillment for anyone grad students out there with supervisors who don't value them (or their partners.) I haven't read a romance in a long time that just made me wish life were more like romance novels.
I used to persevere...and make myself finish every book. I’ve decided I’m too old for that....
Caleb’s bush plane breaks down and strands him at nerdy Elliot’s research station in the Alaskan wilderness. Caleb and Eliiot discover each other’s kink, and loads of sex happens, followed by Serious Feelings. And then I stopped reading.
There’s just not a lot here...bland characters having predictably (not very) kinky sex. There’s the very annoying dual 1st person POVs, and the resulting lengthy expository narration describing their very repetitive thoughts and feelings.
Oh...and I don’t want to leave out the awkward writing style and weirdly florid word usage. Why use one perfectly good word when several not-quite-right ones will serve instead??
What a book! Jason Collins not only gives you two amazing main characters (Caleb and Elliott) but also gives you great supporting characters (Caleb’s business partners). The chemistry is off the charts and the light dominant/submissive element in the relationship just increases the explosive of their story. In addition, Jason’s descriptions of the surrounding Alaskan wilderness and beauty is perfection.
I received this book as an ARC from the author for a honest review and I read it the same evening. Jason’s books just keep getting better with each book.
This story is very intense in attraction. Calab and Elliot from the beginning had an attraction that started a relationship that seems so natural. They just fit. Their connection is strong in personality and sex. Elliot didn’t think he had any submission in him yet when interacting with Calab he finds he likes it. Calab is a strong character who fits the dominant. The sex is hot. The dominant/submissive action is very mild. It almost is more a strong, bossy Calab. This is one of those stories that you just have to keep reading to see where the story is going. I enjoyed the story and the ending was the icing on the cake.
Elliot was in Alaska laying the groundwork at the research station and Caleb was the pilot bringing in some of his supplies. When Elliot literally fell for Caleb, it triggered something in Caleb that he wanted to explore. Neither man was looking for love, but they both fell hard and fast. I laughed when both Elliot and Caleb thought it was a great idea to sabotage equipment in order for them to stay together longer. Daniel was sweet enough to make himself scarce so Caleb and Elliot could really discuss their future without an audience.
'I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.'
I didn't get very far, so I don't think it's a plot spoiler to summarise the little I read....
"I'm driving through Alaska for no apparent reason and I clearly don't have a clue what I'm doing , isn't it wonderful! Look, there's a pilot, he's very dashing, I'm feeling faint, I can't think coherently, but I'm going to wax lyrical for a long while about how wonderful he seems and make all sort of spurious deductions about what he must be like in lots of detail before fainting".
"I don't say much. But I like the way he looks at me. I must protect him or he will surely die. So I'll just arrange a little time off to drive him home."
Jason Collins did a great job exploring a lighter side of the D/s world. . Elliot is on a science research project in Alaska, where he meets Caleb a pilot bringing his supplies. A storm leaves them stranded together with this strange pull towards each other. Caleb never being with a man before knows he needs to claim Elliot. Elliot never a submissive knows he needs to be claimed by no-one other than Caleb. Loved the chemistry. I received this ARC from the author for an honest review & honestly while I'm not usually a fan to the lighter side of the D/s world but this was very well written.
This is a bit different from what Jason Collins normally gives us and it is a highly intense, addictive and enjoyable read with two very different but compatible men in a close encounter situation which gives way to a very steamy relationship. I liked the fact that Elliot embraced his submissive side while Caleb seemed to relish his dominance although he perceived himself to be straightish... at first. A very good read for a first book of three which I’m really looking forward to.
