Love is blind? This starlet doesn't believe it. Then again...she's never been starstruck.

As a child star turned teenage diva, Avery has played a lot of roles in her lifetime. Not one of them was as difficult as pretending to be an ordinary girl at a normal high school. Well, relatively normal. Trudale is a boarding school for the arts, catering to the elite. But even in a school overflowing with celebrities and children of celebrities, Avery is an anomaly. She's a superstar, a bona fide supernova in their midst. So untouchable she's never even had a date. Her lonely nights are spent listening to her favorite voice actor bring her beloved books to life. But when it turns out that the audiobook narrator she's been crushing on attends the same school, it's clear this is kismet...or a cruel joke.

As Trudale's token scholarship kid, Seth's as jaded as they come. Being paired up with the new girl who represents everything he hates about this world is basically torture. Except that the more he gets to know Avery, the more he realizes that there's more to her than meets the eye. And maybe, just maybe, he can let her in on his secret. He's the guy behind the voice she's been crushing on, not his roommate. But trusting Avery means putting his faith in something he doesn't quite understand.

One thing's clear, either this is true love or Cupid's got a sick sense of humor.

Cute, G-rated, YA, contemporary romance

Seventeen-year-old Avery has been acting since she was a small child and is a famous TV star. Most recently, she's been playing the part of a teenage vamp in a long-running nighttime soap opera for the past three years. Her mother, Shirley, is outstanding as Avery's cynical, well-connected manager, but lousy as a nurturing mother, and there is no father in the picture, because he abandoned Avery and her mother when Avery was only eight.

Avery is an extreme introvert who has never dated and never been kissed for real--only fake kisses onscreen. Her preference for an ideal evening is lounging in pajamas at home, listening to the sexy voice of the young, handsome voice actor, Trent Wagner, who narrates Avery's all-time favorite, young-adult, steampunk, pirate-romance series, Rogue Debutante. The only boy that Avery, in her secret daydreams, longs to date is Trent.

Unfortunately for Avery's peace of mind, in order to further her career, Shirley has insisted for some time that Avery constantly play the part of child star turned diva teen as her brand. This basically consists of an image for the entertainment press of Avery as, best case, a mysterious loner, who is a kind of modern-day Greta Garbo type and, worst case, a cliche Mean Girl who is a stuck-up bubblehead. As utterly false as that persona is, given that the real Avery is humble and very smart, at least Avery has avoided playing the part of Avery the Diva as a typical, Hollywood Bad Girl, an extroverted party gal who frequently gets into trouble, flits from guy to guy, and incessantly vies for splashy coverage in the entertainment tabloids.

Worn out with constantly living a fake life as an arrogant, entitled jerk, Avery longs for a chance to play the most desirable role she can imagine--pretending to be an ordinary, unassuming teenage girl. Since she's been home-schooled via excellent, demanding tutors her whole life, she is fully capable of inserting herself seamlessly into the course load of a brick-and-mortar school, and she demands that her mother allow her to attend a real school, with real people, for her junior year in high school. Wonder of wonders, after a great deal of nagging, Shirley finally gives in but, given Avery's superstar status, the closest to a regular school she can safely attend is Trudale, an extremely exclusive boarding school for the arts, which caters to the snooty offspring of the rich and famous.

Seventeen-year-old Seth is one of the few, token scholarship students at Trudale. As a junior in high school, his passionately desired career path is to become a filmmaker. Though he is also a talented voice actor who has been the ghost-voice behind the recordings created under the name of his roommate, Trent, for the bestselling, Rogue Debutante series, he has no acting ambitions. The job is just a much needed paycheck which came about because Trent is massively lazy and has been more than happy to let Seth record the books in his name. This arrangement has allowed Trent's demanding father, an iconic, British star of blockbuster, James Bond type spy movies in the 80s and 90s, to be satisfied that Trent has supposedly fulfilled a gig dear old Dad got him, and Seth gains a profitable means to fund his upcoming university studies.

The first meet between Avery and Seth is not propitious. They are assigned as partners for a crucial, final project in a highly competitive film class, and Seth, who sees Avery as a total poser and an incompetent idiot due to her Diva persona, makes no secret of his disdain for her. He has a huge amount riding on this project, given that important people will view the project at the end of the semester, and he is extremely worried that Avery will mess up his big chance to make vital connections in the film business.

Then, a few days after she arrives at Trudale, Avery discovers that Trent is at Trudale as well, and more than that, he is Seth's roommate, which makes it imperative that Avery not remain Seth's enemy. When, through Seth, she begins to get to know Trent, however, to her great disappointment, he is nothing like she previously pictured in her romantic fantasies. And, strangely enough, hipster Seth slowly reveals himself as having a personality very much like her idealized, imaginary Trent.

I really enjoyed this G-rated, young-adult, contemporary romance. Avery and Seth are both strong, compelling, sympathetic protagonists, and the evolution of their relationship from enemies, to friends, to romance is a fun journey for the reader to share. Both Avery and Seth have a strong growth arc, and their romance naturally evolves into a very satisfying, happy ending.

This story is told from the alternating points of view of Avery and Seth, which is a real plus for me, personally, as a reader, because it allowed me to truly get to know Seth.

This book is a keeper for me, and I'm sure I will read it again multiple times in the future. I highly recommend this YA romantic dramedy for romance fans of all ages.

Plot- Simple and short, but very enjoyable. Celebrity romance that actually felt genuine, like it had the potential to last. (That is very hard to achieve, imo!)

Characters- The A—list celebrity FMC, Avery, is humanized in her POV chapters. She’s probably 17 yrs old. I liked her a lot.
The MMC is very likable and very cool! He didn’t feel pathetic or inferior to the famous FMC, which was really important, obv. I liked how the epilogue set him up for his own career success.

Romance- Fabulous chemistry! And the 3rd act breakup wasn’t pure torture because they resolved it immediately rather than letting the misunderstanding fester. This was handled PERFECTLY! I was insanely happy and relieved that they COMMUNICATED!
The climax when she starts to cry was CHEF’S KISS. I loved how that just broke down all of their walls.
Ahhh, so so good.
Great YA romance.

Writing - Good. I just wish about 50% of the internal musings could have been edited out. It probably would have been a novella if that was the case, tho, because a good portion of the book was just their thoughts. It slowed down the story and especially the dialogue to have a paragraph (or 3) of internalizations between every response. I sometimes lost track of what they were talking about.
Besides that, it was good writing.
The author used a unique style where the characters are kinda talking to the reader. It didn’t bother me too much even tho it’s def not my favorite writing style.

Content-

Language- some swearing, almost all of which is in their thoughts (d-, h-, some a-, and even a few b- words). More swearing than I’ve ever read from Maggie Dallen. Both characters swear in their POV. No f-words.
Spice- Some making out, no mention of wandering hands.
I did feel uncomfortable with the fact that this underage actress is filming sex scenes with an older lover in the soap opera. (Not on page; we are told as much.) That seemed risqué for the tone of this YA book, and I would have preferred for that info to be left out.
The FMC’s jerk colleague snidely says she has “big tits” and the FMC casually repeats that phrase a few times throughout the book in her internal thoughts (not in a sexual way).
Violence- no
Substance abuse- no.
Cover- I like it a lot actually!
POV- dual POV between FMC and MMC, first person
Cliffhanger- no
Format- I bought the e-book off the author’s website. It was worth it.

Ooh, I loved this one! So fun! It was so fast-paced I was absolutely riveted. I’m pretty sure I guessed who the author was talking about at the end (no spoilers here!) and what a fun twist to end with! No cliffhangers, no sex, some swearing. I could definitely see this becoming a series and I would love to read more. But if not, that’s okay too because this author always writes great stuff! She has a far reaching audience too because, although it’s written for a teen /young adult audience in mind, a lot of the references to the eighties and nineties also resonate with those of us who are, ahem, a bit more, shall we say... “mature”. Definitely recommend this book.
I get a lot of early reader copies of ebooks from publishers, authors, publicists, etc. I always write my own thoughts and opinions and have no obligations to write reviews. I receive no compensation for any of them.

Maggie Dallen never disappoints in her YA stories. Audible Love is certainly no exception. For the older gentleman, if you want a break from you heavy reading, or the young adult looking for a good read, this one is for you.

This story is about Seth and Avery. He is a scholarship student of the elite highschool for young actors and children of actors. She is teenage Diva wanting a normal highschool experience. Watching them get together and learning what they see on the outside, is not who they really are, has been quite enjoyable.

This was so, so sweet. I really enjoyed this book and I loved both Avery and Seth. Their chemistry was great and their lives might be very different, but their personalities fit perfectly together. This was a unique take on Hollywood romance trope, I don't think I've ever read a book about the audiobook narrator before. And that little mystery at the end... It sorta makes me love everything about this book even more.

A fun sort of reverse-cinderella flavored story. It was an enjoyable romp, although the main conflict was predictable & the angst felt contrived (hence the 1/2 star subtraction), but it was done well enough to keep me entertained throughout, which is my reason for reading, so I still got a sufficiently satisfying dose of happily-ever-after.

Clean romance level: passionate kisses, some minor swear words, and sadly, several instances of using the Lord's Name in vain (it's not about forcing others to live by someone else's beliefs, but about showing consideration & respect for the beliefs of others)

This had a lot of ingredients that I really love in a book: celebrity trying to live a normal life, boarding school, and a romantic connection between individuals who don’t initially like one another. But this was a very poorly written book. There was this never ending stream of consciousness from both of the narrators about their (repetitive, tedious, neurotic) thoughts, and it was impossible to keep up with the dialogue, because there would be no fewer than 3 paragraphs of this before anyone would respond to the simplest question. It was bad. I don’t expect great literature from my YA romances, but I couldn’t even read all of this. I skimmed the last half.

Cute

Cute story about a introverted and cynical actress who wants to be normal and the scholarship jaded boy who has a secret. I enjoyed the multiple POV and the chemistry of the 2 characters.

The young adult years are difficult enough to handle without adding fame, fortune and a manipulative mother into the mix. All Avery wanted was normal. However, as most adults come to understand, “normal” is elusive and dependent on interpretation. Avery eventually gets her wish to attend high school, albeit one for gifted teens with aspirations of an acting career. She discovers that her mother's publicity spin on her life clouds her reality and initially there isn't a student who can see the real girl behind the facade. Being partnered with Seth in a school project starts off badly and whilst he has to accept the situation, he certainly isn't happy about it. He is surprised when Avery fights for her right to participate in the project and even more surprised when he discovers the reasons for her secret crush. The story is sweet and clean but with a wealth of emotional pain and difficulties that both Avery and Seth have to face, far beyond anything normal teenagers have to deal with. Avery and Seth come to realise that trust in true friendship is essential and that together they can conquer everything that life throws at them. I received a copy of this well written book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I’ve long known that Maggie Dallen is the true Queen of YA high school romance. Audible Love: A Young Adult Romance certainly qualifies as such and the romance between Avery and Seth is perfectly told. It’s also probably the only YA Hollywood story that I’ve ever read that has the feel of being totally genuine. I’ve no idea if it is as I’m not even remotely involved in the film industry but it ”feels” real - and that’s all a reader can really ask of an author. This is the kind of book, with its perfect plot and cast of character all perfectly written, that cries out for multiple reads. I’ve got a big TBR pile of books that look to be lots of fun, but I’ve already read this one twice and am tempted to do so again. Can’t give any higher praise than that. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series (and really hoping that it’s Charlotte’s chance at romance).

This book is a fantastic palate cleanser. This book/novella is what I wanted Famous in love to be. For a person who enjoys the actress who's an introvert going to a semi normal school trope you're going to enjoy this. Especially with the added bonus of having a handsome cynic nerd  plus audiobook voice acting. That in my opinion never gets discussed enough and for someone who wants to learn more about Audiobooks (and if I would be able to comprehend them) I appreciated the concept.  My only complaints that I had with this was that I wanted more. I wanted more from the audiobook aspects of things I wanted to know more about being on the set of being in a music video and how that process works and how the characters worked on their final project. I appreciated the romance and friendship buildup the main characters made but I wish there was more with a couple of the side characters. Because of these points I have to give this novella a 3.5 out of 5 stars it is definitely one I would recommend to anyone who enjoys YA romance with some bookish/film aspects like I do.

This story was adorable.
There's really no other way to describe it.
I'm such a sucker for a well written young-adult romance. And this book hit every one of my markers.
What a refreshing angle to read about as well.
Having an actress fall in love with the voice of her favorite book series, even though it's not quite the person she thought it was behind it? Brilliant. And because I haven't read any stories like it before, original to me personally.
It was also refreshing getting to read a book about a famous starlet, who was nothing at all like they are portrayed to be. Humanizing this girl and really, actresses in general in this story. It was wonderful.
The romance was cute, it was adorable, and everything I would want my young-adult romances to be.
It was also a very clean read, apart from a few kisses, which means, this is a story I would feel safe letting my 12 and 13 year old read, right along with the ages higher.
The author is quickly becoming one of my favorites and I can't wait to see what she's got in store next.

Set in a boarding school for the arts called Trudale in Hollywood, Audible Love by Maggie Dallen is told in the perspectives of Avery and Seth, two students from different worlds paired up for a class project. While Avery wants an attempt at a normal life despite being a big name celebrity, Seth just wants to get through the last year of high school as a scholarship student.

Maggie Dallen’s novel is a little hard to get into. Both Avery and Seth’s narratives frequently came off as rambling. Much of the novel, in addition to the narration, was focused on their interactions with each other as they navigated the project. I loved reading their banter as they discovered how their their impressions of each other changed as they took the time to know each other as people. But while I enjoyed the story overall, I wanted more from the plot and the side characters.

Audible Love is a cute and quick read, perfect for those who enjoy a good romance set in Hollywood.

Maggie Dallen has done it again love this so much! A teenage superstar trying to have a normal high school experience crushing on the voice that brings her favorite books to life and the scholarship guy that hates all the rich and powerful on principle. Poor Avery just want to be normal but being a star has its drawbacks good thing she’s tough as nail and rolls with the punches really loved her character and Seth who starts with utter disdain for Avery changes once he gets to see the real girl behind the camera. It’s a great story and would definitely recommend reading and hopefully we will get more on who that author is for Avery’s favorite book might it be another student I have my guess!

Growth, while painful, can lead to true joy...

This was a sweet story of youth finding their place & voice in the world of high schoolers. That is hard enough but combine that with kids from the fame, glitz, glamour of Hollywood and nothing is “normal.” It’s also a story about taking a deeper look at our peers and not letting our first impressions be all we see.
I enjoyed the banter and wit of the main characters and how they were beautifully flawed. I liked the different perspectives each brought to the story and how they learned from and helped one another grow into stronger more confident people.

Freaking amazing! It was so refreshing to read that I couldn't help but keep reading till it ended. I totally loved the main characters.. I mean they really hit it off and the realization at both the ends towards the ending of the book was so amazingly beautiful! Though the mystery at the end has gotten me to do some real thinking.. I am totally guessing who that person is (no giveaways). So basically Audible Love is the new young adult romance that speaks about the life of a seemingly different section of society but I still can't help but connect with the characters in here. It was totally lovely!

Loved it!

Really enjoyed this one! The writing was clever and intriguing. The storyline was cute and enthralling. I liked the whole idea that Avery is technically seen by the world as a diva/villain type. I feel like most celebrity stories are told from either the perspective of the American Sweetheart, or a normal girl who falls for the actor. The plot was refreshing and I read this book in about a day because I couldn't put it down. First time I've read something by Maggie Dallen, but it won't be the last! I highly recommend for anyone looking for a wholesome rom com like read.

Happy surprise add to my kindle

I have no idea how this book ended up on my kindle, I don't remember adding it but boy am I glad it was. From the first alternating chapters between Avery and Seth I was hooked. I loved these characters and their snarky personalities. I read this book in one sitting. Stayed up late to finish, I just enjoyed every moment. This was a wonderful surprise story for me that brings a smile to my face even as tired as I am this morning. It was worth the missed sleep. Try it for yourself and enjoy the fun adventures of some talented teens just trying to find a bit of normal friendship and love in the crazy setting of Trudale boarding school.

This was a lot funnier and cleverer than I thought it would be. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

I would be thrilled if this gets turned into a series, since there's potential for that in the plot-arc. (For example: Is Avery's shy roommate the author of the audio books...? How do Seth and Avery manage a long-distance relationship? Etc.)

What I enjoyed best was that the angst wasn't excessive or OTT. Seth and Avery cared enough about each other to never truly lash out at one another. They were always respectful of the other person, even when they were fighting. That's really refreshing in a romance, especially a YA Romance.

If you're not in show business, or even a big CEO or even a sports star, then you cannot really understand what these people's lives are like. Sure there's been a few stories/films about the impact of social media, paparazzi and invasion of privacy, have on celebrities, but really it's hard for "normal " people to fully comprehend.
So, if your a celebrity, who has grown up within the business, it's also likely, just ad unlikely that they would understand what "normal" people's lives are like.
This story has an attempt at creating a character that wants a normal high school experience, although she is an A listed star.
It also shows what a "normal" person has to go through, to break into the entertainment industry.
Very different type story. Great read!

Nice short read

So more like 3.5 I think. There was nothing crazy good about this story. It was a normal young adult romance. It seemed a little choppy. The main character just seem to rant on and on about her non-normal life and our male lead Continually rambles on about how much he hates the elite. So they fell in love with each other everything was fine and dandy there just wasn’t a lot in this story to that jumped out at me to make me love it. It was a quick read just not a time development character wise.

Aural Transcendence. Over the last 18 months or so, I've found myself reading most of this author's work - and this particular book is easily among the best she has written. Dallen does young adult romance well, but this one is truly particularly transcendent. The depth of emotion in this book is among the best in romance today, better than many works by far more famous authors. Dallen has truly outdone herself with this one, and I for one hope to see more in this particular world.

Cute Starlet and Regular Guy Read

I enjoy how Maggie writes mature young adult characters and Seth and Avery were no exception.

Both are tying to make it in a world they don't feel they belong in, but are mature enough to see both sides of the story.

Maggie adds her fantastic writing and unique spin to an opposites atttact plotline with strong characters who are relatable, likeable, and simply adorable.

Sweet YA romance

This was a fun read. I enjoyed the twist that the famous actress had a crush on the ‘nobody’ nerdy voice actor. It took a few chapters to really get into the book, because Avery was not a very like able character at first. As the book progresses and her character develops that changes. Seth is a great character and I enjoyed the way their friendship and romance developed. Cute, clean, quick read.
