I've come to enjoy my visits with the characters in Hearts Grove, WA. I love reading about Henrietta sleuthing with her good friend Ralph who is a private investigator. This was a quick and clean read, and I enjoyed seeing how the case was solved, especially now that a new detective was in town. Ralph being old school wasn't really in favor of that, but Henrietta was always thinking the best about people and wanting to give them a chance. I liked how her assistant Olivia's love life was addressed again and how her character is developing in this series. I'll definitely be borrowing the next one on Kindle Unlimited as well!
This mystery is well-written and quite interesting! The characters are so realistic that you feel that you know them, and then you are somewhat sad when the book is finished! I am so glad to be able to say that this book is a wonderful mystery!
Intriguing story once again. Henrietta and her store make it through burglaries and the holidays. Unfortunately there’s no peace insight. Love these stories.
The well respected Lighthouse keeper/historian, Gerald, in charge of the museum there and an integral part of the historical society in town is found dead in the lighthouse. He was looking forward to his daughter's wedding. Why would he commit suicide like the newly transplanted "citified" detective said. Well, his daughter wanted answers and didn't believe that could possibly have been the case. But this new detective wouldn't hear of anything else, so...Ralph and his detective agency is asked to investigate and of course he pulls Henrietta into helping him with this case. So many red-herrings pulling you here and there and secrets and a second killing all keep you turning pages. Then we are also treated to Henrietta and Olivia's decorating for the period dance designed to help the mayor raise money for the town and Olivia's love-life problems while watching her character develop and get stronger. I loved this 3rd book in the series and can't wait to see what new adventure Henrietta and Ralph get into along with Olivia! I received and ARC but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Another great read. Loved the plot even if it was obvious who the culprit was. The characters added charm and the way she manipulates events is awesome. The understated romance is very well handled for both the Ower and employee of HH. Truly a lovely read. The death of Gerald is quickly termed suicide by the new arrogant detective in town. Henri and Ralph don't agree and the more they look into things the more doubts they have. Secret letters, murder and arson quickly prove them right. But who is the killer? Meanwhile they are trying to set up the hall for the Victorian themed dance and Olivia gives Nelson a chance to prove he's into her.
The 3rd book in this easy to read cozy mystery series finds Henrietta and Ralph trying to find the killer of Gerald, the lighthouse owner.
Henrietta runs an antique shop, Ralph is a private Investigator, and Henrietta helps him with some cases. A new Detective on the local police force is adamant that Gerald committed suicide; but his daughter, Henrietta and Ralph aren't so sure, and set out to prove themselves right.
The books are easily read in a couple of hours and the are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
I'm already looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
When a body is found at the lighthouse, the police are quick to rule it a suicide. Henrietta doesn't believe that so she and Ralph are bound and determined to find the truth. There are other things going on in the book that impeds their investigation, but can they convince the police it was a murder and not suicide? You will need to read the book to find out. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book.
10++++ stars!! Henrietta and Ralph and Scott really got this right. The new detective Abe Paige from Chicago, not knowing the people of the small town had made a call on a death that everyone else knew was not right and it took Henrietta and Ralph to change the direction of that decision. And boy was there a story attached to the mess. You will enjoy this book, i love this series and can't wait to read the next book. You won't be disappointed!!!!
There’s still something I still don’t like very much of the series, but “I can’t quite put my finger on it”. Maybe it’s Ralph, I don’t like him very much. The plot was good and finally Olivia dumped her useless boyfriend. I hope she doesn’t take him back in the next book out of guilt. The new detective is arrogant and is now interested in Olivia, I sense a love triangle coming between those two and Scott.

I won’t keep you. In order for the female heroine to be smart ALL of the men must be immature, emotional, or damaged! It diminished the heroine as only modestly capable. Also, I despise when a mystery is solved off page. They have to explain how they came to a conclusion while racing to wrap it up. There was more focus on decorating than character development.
Her closing monologue made me want to immediately delete this from my device! Let’s absorb more make bad behavior because they are young/immature! Really, this is a series. I prefer strong, bright female characters and villains with back bone and backstory — none of that here!
This is a good story that includes two generations, one historian, and one private detective. It also includes a cocky, rather pushy new police detective, one assumed suicide and one murder, a deranged husband, and a historical Victorian Valentines dance. The plot is straightforward, and the premise is finding out if the assumed suicide really was and why he was killed, if not. The answers are quickly found and the police shown up once again. I definitely recommend this book and the rest of the series.
Well written cozy mystery with a well developed plot, great character development, and enough red herrings to keep your interest. A definite plus is that although it is the third book in a series, it is not a cliffhanger. It is interesting enough that you would be willing to pick up another book in this series just to see what type of adventure lies ahead for this group of people.
Henrietta and Ralph make a great detective team. Once again they are looking into a mystery and the red herrings and secrets keep them hopping. The story plot was great and the characters are well defined and likeable. The characters are growing with each new story and I love where they are headed. Enjoyed all the books by Danielle Collins and this was one of the best.
This is the second of these mysteries I have read, and they both were interesting, nicely written, and with a real feel for the characters. You feel as if you'd like to know them. The puzzles are deep.enough to make you ponder a bit. A nice series for a rainy afternoon or an evening alone. I look forward to the next.
Very enjoyable story. It is a shame about the old historic lighthouse and the sad things that went on there. But the murders were solved in good order. The Valentine party was beginning to be a great success with Henrietta and Ralph enjoying a dance. It looks like Olivia is going to be having a very enjoyable future! Good story!
9/24. Henrietta, owner of an antiques store, and Ralph, a PI, join forces, at request of victim's daughter, take on the case to prove that the girl's father, the owner of a historic lighthouse, was murdered. Possible suspects are ruled out, but then a second victim is found. Who was this victim, and was the death of the first person related? Okay.
Henrietta and her co-worker Olivia are decorating the upcoming dance when a man is found murdered in a nearby lighthouse. Henrietta sets her heart on making the upcoming dance a success but she also after finding a box of love letters knows there's more to their friend's death. A great read and another success for Danielle Collins.
An interesting book with good characters and a well-done mystery. Not happy about the overused trope of the heroine investigating a murder and putting herself at risk while interfering with the official investigation.
Amazon synopsis; Henrietta and her antique store made it through the holiday season and all the burglaries. When tragedy strikes at the lighthouse, she’s thrust into another murder mystery. After a second death, it becomes apparent that things are much darker than they originally seemed. Can Henrietta shine the light on the facts and catch another killer?

I couldn't connect with any of thee characters at all. The writing was insipid. The solution to the murder was obvious. I won't be reading any more books by this author.
I liked the way that the relationships are developing. The new detective will bring lots of tension. The mystery is less who did it, but where is the murderer. And that is a fun difference to read about every so often. I am thoroughly enjoying this series.
I'm glad I found this series. It is enjoyable and a quick read. Perfect for bedtime and the waiting room. You'll be able to read chapters quickly and get through the story without missing a beat.
I enjoyed reading this little cosy mystery. I enjoy the interaction between Henrietta, Olivia and Ralf and watching the story unfold. I received this book for free and give my honest review happily.
Who killed Gerald Folsom and why??? AND who burned down the lighthouse??? Although Henri has her hands full with the dance and decorations, she will figure things out, won’t she??? I enjoyed the story and recommend the book.
This is the third book in the series. The first was terrific but the second didn’t compare. This one was similar to the first with intuition and paying close attention to details solving the crime.
Another great mystery by MS Collins. Will keep you interested from start to finish. It is also a quick read and moves at a pace that keeps the reader guessing at the ending. I am looking forward to Henri and Ralph's next mystery.
