That is what vampire Count Konstantin “the Wolf” Volk declares to his Vampire House, and even to his Sire, the ancient, dangerous vampire known only as the Nomad. His Sire wants Lucas dead. His closest advisers want Lucas enslaved. Because Lucas is no ordinary human.
Lucas finds himself eager to start work at Club Dyavol, even though his memories of his time there are hazy. There is one image burned into his memory: a set of brilliant green eyes that turned red. But no matter what awaits him at the elegant club, he is certain it is better than being around his overly attentive stepfather.
But is Lucas running from potential danger to a certain one?
NOTE: THIS NOVELLA SERIES HAS CLIFFHANGERS! EVERY BOOK WILL END ON ONE. THAT'S MY NATURAL WRITING STYLE. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE CLIFFHANGERS, WAIT UNTIL THE WHOLE SERIES IS PUBLISHED TO READ. THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!
X. Aratare writes gay paranormal romance with witches, vampires, magic, and mystery. Though some books may venture into dark territory, they will all have happy endings.
I am really enjoying this so far. I was even thinking about giving it 4 stars, but only decided not to because of its very short length and limited content.
Lucas and Konstantin are both super likable, and even though they are both clearly drawn to each other, it's not in an annoyingly insta-love kind of way. They definitely have chemistry, and I am very excited to see more of their interactions, since there haven't been a lot of them so far.
I also really like Lizzie. She hasn't been present all that much yet, but she seems really sweet, and Konstantin appears to have quite an adorable relationship going on with her. Although, for some reason, even though they haven't even talked yet, I am somehow already obsessed with Lizzie's relationship with Lucas. I can just feel that they'd be super sweet together. Maybe at the end of the series Lizzie can end up being like their pseudo-daughter or something. Wouldn't that be cute?
I've said it before about book 1, but I'll say it again: I am quite intrigued and definitely interested by this series' overall plotline. The paranormal aspect is really working for me, and the mystery part is making me desperate to find out what exactly everything means and what will happen next. I'm also interested in the other side-plot concerning Lucas and his family. I'm anxious to find out what the deal with his stepdad, Garrett, is, since I honestly find it a very entertaining storyline as well. None of it all is boring to me.
'The Vampire's Club' series: Book One - 3.5 stars Book Two - 3.5 stars
The one thing that made me rate the first book with 4 stars instead of 3 makes me rate this one with 2.
Why, you ask? Let me explain.
You know those drawn out clips on TikTok where you want to see how they do something that has the potential be be interesting, and just at the last moment, they say “go to part 2 to see what happens”? And then you go to part 2, where at first there’s a recap of part 1, then a tiny bit of progress, and then they tell you to go to part 3? Annoying, right? Pure clickbait.
I hate those clips.
And the same happened here: it’s a 3h ish audiobook, a lot from the previous book gets rehashed, and just when there’s a teensy bit of action, the book stops. It wouldn’t be a problem if I’d read it in KU, but I got the audiobook. Again. And I’m frustrated because I haven’t really learned anything substantial, not about the relationship between Konstantin and Lucas, nothing about Lucas’ background. Only more plotlines added.
On top of that, what’s making it a bit difficult: the storytelling isn’t very straightforward. It’s a weird mix between 3rd person pov, inner monologue and dialogues, all of that either in real world, or in dreams. Where - to make it even more difficult - the participants interact on a semi-concious level (to explain it better: when real-life-Konstantin as a sex-daydream under the shower while jerking off, dream-Lucas actually interacts with him, and real-life-Lucas remembers the fantasy as his own dream).
Another thing that makes me roll my eyes: the talk about “elegant manly bare feet” or “bare toes”. I swear, Konstantin doesn’t like shoes 🤣 and the fact that everything Konstantin wears is either black, or red/crimson. Oh and he prefers candles to electricity in his (very high end) bathroom. It’s so… cliché.
Also, it’s a bit repetitive- the times Konstantin is full of wonder how he can touch and see and smell things again after drinking Lucas’ blood made me roll my eyes, too 🙄
At the moment, I’m a bit annoyed with the author. Maybe I’ll come back to the series at some later point, but I’ll definitely switch to reading on KU, despite the fact that the narrator is really good. But it’s just too expensive for the value you get out of it.
I've a feeling this may be a 5 star series, so will review once all 7 books are finished. Safe to say I'm hooked, love love love the world that's building!
So these novels are like a serial publication where everything is detailed and keeps coming. I like that. The second short starts exactly where the first one left off. Told in multiple POV, it shows more of the world the author is building plus the tenuous connection the MCs have. It's not insta trope or mates. There is a steamy encounter that happens in dream like state for both MCs, and it kind of starts something between them that can become more. There are enemies, a bit of angst and a set of characters that make me curious to continue reading. I hope author continues till the full story is complete since this book describes approximately next 24 hours, it will take many books to bring it to fruition. I hope it will happen. I enjoyed the intrigue, the characters and the story line as it is now.
2.5/5 This book is just as short as the first one and in here we get to see both POVs as well as a little bit of Konstantin’s past and his creator, the Nomad, supposedly, the most powerful vampire currently living.
Lucas’ real parents are still a mystery but he’s definitely someone with power enough to break Konstantin’s curse. Lucas might be the son of a powerful witch but we’re still not sure who that might be. The thing is Konstatin doesn’t want to make him a blood slave, so for now, he’ll only be working at Dyavol, the known vampire Sanctuary.
I don’t really have to say a lot about this book except that I think this story could have been a trilogy instead of a 7-book series. It doesn’t really end up with a major cliff-hanger and I do want to continue with the story but right now it is not my priority.
I like Lucas and Konstantin but I think I need more to feel invested in their romance.
I didn't really get into the story until Book 3 since the first two books were short and just setting things up, but this was how I felt about Book 2 after reading it...
Once again, this is hard to rate on its own because of how this was only a sliver of a story. I feel like this overall story is moving very slowly, since Book 1 was roughly 90 pages of Lucas going to Dyavol and getting the job, then Book 2 was another 90 pages or so of him going back and meeting Konstantin again. The writing is decent, I have no issues with anything so far, but nothing is super hooking me yet.

I’ll be honest, book Two felt like a novella that didn’t need to exist. If you were hoping for some thrilling plot progression or deep character development, brace yourself for disappointment—this instalment barely moves the needle. After finishing it, I couldn’t help but wonder why the author opted for two consecutive novellas instead of combining them into a single, more cohesive book. Something around 150–200 pages would’ve worked so much better.
The audiobook clocks in at about three hours, and a large chunk of that is just rehashing what happened in book one. Seriously, it feels like someone decided to take the footnotes from the first book, stretch them out, and slap a cover on it. The plot barely moves, and when it does, it’s in slow motion and fast-forward, at the same time! There’s this tiny bit of action that picks up towards the end, but just when you think, "finally, we’re getting somewhere", it abruptly stops. Frustrating doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Instead of character development, more names and plot lines get thrown in, muddying the waters without actually clarifying anything. And can we talk about Garrett? In book one, his problematic behaviour was just hinted at, but now, in the introduction (!) of book two, it’s suddenly treated like common knowledge. What gives?
All in all, this felt repetitive and superficial. I might continue with the series—because there’s still some potential buried in here—but at this point, I’m not in a rush to find out what happens next. Maybe the next book will deliver on the promise the first one hinted at… but I’m not holding my breath.
This is a short novella and yet I found myself skimming. There’s just not enough to hold my attention. Is it me or the book? Who know’s. But since they are so short I’m continuing on. Fingers crossed...
A lot less compelling than book 1. At this point I don't understand why this was split into 7 books. These are chapter cliffhangers, not book cliffhangers.
I still like the story, but the books need to be longer to have some true impact. Each book have involved one day so far. The writing varies between formal and informal and takes away from the immersion. I find Lucas and his wolf to be an interesting couple, but if book three is as short I might give it a pass.
More world building more getting to know each other more twists. I love every second of it. The writing was great, the dreamy smexy was hawt and we learned a little more about the side characters. The only thing I don’t like is the other book pimp out at the end. Give me more story I’m reading or just end it. List the book if you like, but don’t start the book. Especially when I want to just read the next book in this series.
Interesting world and curious how the author manages to make this not a slow burn, but also we don't get much screen time with the main characters together. The ~dream sex~ scene was a bit clumsily written for me.
Still super interesting but there wasn’t too much happening in this. I wish there would have been a little more. However the next few books are longer so I have high hopes for this to get much more exciting.
Still I sure of how I feel…Lucus’ gross “step dad” who is of course a cop is almost making me drop this series. Moving onto the third though so it can’t be all that bad!
