Interesting, but nothing new

This book brought to the surface some of the things we are all aware of one way or another - it was nothing new for me, nor did it offer me any methods, so to say, to clearly spot dark psychology when used by someone. However, I still see it good as a motivational book, it was just not what I expected.

Bad review alert 🥴⚠️
✔️Boring
✔️Repetitive ideas
✔️The writer mentioned that “certain people do bad things simply because they can, and we should be open about the possibility that this person was just downright evil” (Page.34 Problematic behavior)… So, on one hand, labeling a person as “just evil” is actually tempting for humans since it kind of gives them a reason for why this happened to them, and a closure is a necessity in order to get over anything…but, on the other hand considering someone as born evil, simply because we are still far from fully understanding how the brain actually works and what drive people to do extremely violent acts toward another human being, is in a way naïve.
However, since the writer suggested that “you are optimistic because you are human,” which is also debatable, so I made an effort to find something satisfactory in the book to share, and indeed I did.
Movies are to blame for the myths and misconceptions about hypnosis, the part on this subject is okay.

Gaidīju kaut ko daudz konkrētāku un praktiskāku. Citādi sanāk tikai tukša runāšana par to, kas jau tāpat zināms.

I JUST CAN'T continue reading a book that includes information about studies or articles the author uses to support his statements without adding a bibliography or references to it.

A self help book that offers too little of help and has nothing innovative to add. Claims about neuroscience are made without any, and I mean ANY, references. Also, a note towards the author: Science is not a belief system.

This book is a major letdown, offering very little of what the title promises. Instead of providing practical insights into psychological warfare, manipulation, or NLP, it delivers vague and superficial content with little substance.

It feels like the author is simply stretching out basic concepts without diving into any real depth or offering useful strategies.

While a few interesting case studies are mentioned, they’re not enough to salvage the overall lack of meaningful information.

In the end, the book feels like a waste of time—overpromising and underdelivering. If you’re looking for serious, practical advice, this is not the book for you.

Short chapters, positive affirmations at the end, but I found the examples somewhat weak. Alot of this felt watered down, without evidence to back it up. Alot was also repetitive. But, for a basic introductory crash course, it was nearly decent.

A beginner book on dark psychology.
* The price you pay for ignorance if far greater than burden that knowledge brings. And if you want to win this mental warfare against the enticing influences of dark psychology, you need wisdom and the right application of knowledge in what you do.
* The person who is being manipulated isn’t given the choice to either accept or reject the will of the manipulator. They are simply coerced into compliance. Manipulators have their reasons for doing what they do.
* RED FLAGS-
Family & Friends – Observe their social circles. A close-knit family and stable friendships are positive signs. A complete lack of friends can be a red flag.

Past History – While people can change, a history of abusive behavior increases the risk of recurrence unless they are actively seeking help.

Control Issues – Inability to control emotions or an excessive need for control can lead to harmful behavior.

Anti-Social Traits – Watch how they interact socially. Being generally disliked due to rudeness or hostility is a warning sign.

Substance Abuse – Drug or alcohol dependency affects reasoning, decision-making, and relationship priorities, potentially leading to neglect or financial burden.

The title is so long that I thought there would be detailed discussions and frameworks one can use to prevent being a victim of dark psychology. However, the book didn't really offer anything new. It was just a narration of everyday encounters one could have that are actually instances of manipulation. Like one of the reviews here said, it could still serve as a source of motivation for others. But I personally didn't learn anything new and of value.

I enjoyed this book! It was the first one I’ve finished, and I’m glad I did. This book on dark psychology has truly opened my eyes. It helped me understand the behavior of people around me and gave me deeper insights into my actions. I feel more in tune with myself, and it’s been a great tool for personal development. Highly recommended for anyone looking to improve their self-awareness and gain a better understanding of human nature.

When you learn to trust your instincts, you are better able to protect yourself.

It was an average book. And the quote I chose is pretty much the main message that it was made/written to deliver. It's disturbingly concise, but can't not be recommended for a light read!

This book feels like a sort of passion project; someone having written a long essay on what they should have done, should have seen, should have realised and eventually forgiving themselves for what happened. This wasn't a useful book for me. I loathed the lack of annotations. Case 'studies' without proper reference to the actual cases, 'research' that the author read etc.

Arabic review at bellow.

Williams breaks down complex psychology into simple language, making it accessible to all readers. The book prompts self-reflection, empowering individuals to recognize and defend against manipulative tactics.

Short book with a good and important message: trust your instincts.
The information is basic, and it needs some editing, but it is a splendid beginners book.

I was interested in this book after reading manhwa "Cheese in the trap". Even though the title of this book is alluring but the content in the book did not deliver what I expected.

Nothing new to learn here. The writer tries hard to be a second Robert Greene but lacks depth and evidence. This book contains nothing but common sense, but in a very repetitive way.
