3 Stars

Edited to add: I originally rated this 2 stars; but, now that my irritation at the cliffhanger has passed, I am bumping it up to the 3 stars it deserves.

I am a huge fan of AJL and have been for a long time. I love her books, I love the world she has created here with the LOKI series, and I was waiting for this book to drop with bated breath.

Needless to say, I myself am pretty surprised I am giving it only two stars. For real. I can't remember the last time I rated an AJL book less than four stars. That said, I have to say that I’m pretty annoyed right now. When book one first dropped, it was supposed to be one book...but it turned into two books (this book)...because AJL said she needed more than one book to get the story "right." Which I totally get and accept; however, we were led to believe this next book was the conclusion.

So color me surprised when I when I got the to end and - bam - cliffhanger and an announcement for book three.

description

Now, if this book had been exciting and action-packed, I would have been, like, sure I get it. That's cool.

But it wasn't.

This book was fairly boring, quite frankly. Things happened, sure, but not a whole lot and not in a way that had me frantically turning the page. In fact, even as I was reading it, I remember having the thought that the book felt like a lot of filler. Which made me question why it couldn't have been condensed into one book. And then to find out that it would now be three?

description

Not only that, but a lot of the filler in this book revolved around PC discussions and rambling justifications.

Now, this might get me some flack, but fuck it.

description

Without getting into a long-winded discussion on women's rights (this is a romance novel review, after all), I'll just say this: I am a strong woman who has an equal voice in my household. I believe in the strength of women and support equal rights and responsibility.

That said, I love alpha assholes in my romance books.

description

And I felt like in previous books, all our main male LOKI characters were badass men who, while alpha, still treated the women around them with respect. In this book, however, while the characters still acted the same, I felt like there was suddenly a lot of character discussions and narrative justifications surrounding any behavior that might come across as infringing on the perceived equality of any female character.

I'm not sure if AJL got some flack for her character's behavior in previous books? And is trying to placate certain readers? Or if this is just a natural effect of the recent surge in women's rights movement and an effort to stave off any attacks. I don't know. But, either way, all these social justifications coupled with multiple discussions on gender neutral toys (as much as I support it all - you do you, folks) just made me feel like I was being lectured. In a motorcycle romance.

And it took me out of the story.

Right or wrong, that's how I felt.

description

I just hope book three works out better for me.

"Being strong helps us survive bad times. Being brave allows us to change our future."
description

Zero Regret is the 13th book in the Lost Kings Series. Once again, Autumn Jones Lake has crafted a masterpiece full of passion, romance, action, and MC brotherhood at it's best. After reading Zero Tolerance, I was dying for more Lilly and Z. As always, Ms. Lake did not disappoint.

description
"You better be here when I get back. I will chase your gorgeous ass down this time.”
Now that Z has Lilly back in his arms, he will do whatever it takes to keep her right where she belongs. However, with drama in the club building, Z is fighting hard to serve his brothers, be a good father, and keep Lilly safe. As the truths of Lilly's past are revealed, Z is ready for vengeance.

description
“I like getting all messy with you,” I whisper against his ear. “Love feeling your cum inside me for hours after.”
Told in multiple POV, Zero Regret is absolutely my favorite book of 2019 to date. The dynamics and complexities in these characters continue to grow and transform and I can say with complete honesty, I will never get enough. The passion and action in this book was non-stop and coupled with the intensity building in the club, I could not turn the pages fast enough.

description

Overall, it's no secret that I am a huge LOKI fan. Every single brother and their "old lady" have become like family to me. The way in which Z and Lilly have had to fight for every sweet moment they know share together, only makes me love them both that much more. Lilly is a fighter and with Z by her side, they are simply unstoppable. Be forewarned our beloved LOKI Queen (Ms. Lake) has once again bestowed another blessed cliffie! God help us all to sustain the strength it will take to wait for the next book. Until then, my Kindle and I will be ready and waiting for more!

4 hollering ★★★★✩ on a motorcycle
This book is for you if…you have the emotional stability to wait endless months for the next installment of Z + L's story.

⇝Preface.
I can't believe I got lucky enough to get a free eArc of this book. Autumn Jones Lake, when I woke up a couple of days ago, finding it on my kindle made me SO unbelievably happy! Thanks for that. I've been a faithful fan of this series for a while and love how ever present the LOKI fellas seem to be in my daily life.

⇝Overall.
To warn y’all off, just like the first book of Zero and Lilly, this one ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger. While they are an annoyance to some, I acknowledge them as an important tool for authors to keep their readers interested. Although I don’t feel like AJL needs to do that with her current stock of readers. We are all fans for a lifetime, I can assure you. Once you’re in this universe of motorcycles and mobsters, it becomes quite hard to imagine a reading-life without them.

I have to agree with a previous review, however, that there seemed to be a lot of filling scenes to justify the 3 books. I did catch myself exhaling two or three times, somewhat frustrated and annoyed. I noticed straight away that the first book of this romance story was a lot shorter than previous ones. I suspected she wanted to get more out of Z and Lil’s story and make it three instead of two books. Sadly, this contained a lot of filling scenes. Not very happy about that as it conveyed a feeling of “unnaturalness”. Since I’ve already gotten this far with the series, I didn’t want to give up and tried to push through the slump, and...

...what can I say, I’m addicted. Could be worse, though. It’s tattooed book heroes, not nicotine or alcohol, sooo You can’t tell me, this ain’t doing nothing for your blood temperature!?!!

You wanna tell me, that no, it doesn’t? PFT!

➺What's happening.
Z recovers quickly from finding Lilly’s “fiancé” at their doorstep. But now Z wants the whole story of what happened to Lilly before she left and until they met again. Once he finds out, nothing will stop him from getting revenge for his Siren. His anger from the first book fades as now he feels he failed the beautiful, strong, independent women while she carried the burden of dealing with her trauma and carrying and raising their son. Meanwhile, Lilly feels the baggage of her past eating away at her, afraid that it will only lead to more distance between Z and her.

Getting revenge is not the only issue the LOKIs are dealing with, however. As Z is temporarily functioning as president of the downstate charter, he investigates the attack of the former prez and quickly finds out, that his new “job” is more than just an annoying short time occupation but might pose further threats to him, his brothers and his new family. As they seem to be closing in on their target, bullets fly and people get hit. But will the wrong people have to suffer, too? [-meaningful innuendo-] There also seems to be a snitch from within the charter and it keeps his neck itching.

We also see how Lilly is handling being a first lady. I hope we get to see more of that in the next books as I see a lot of potential, her being a fierce and much more outspoken woman than Hope, for instance.

Overall, I enjoyed this story but hope for a stronger story with the next book, though. Less filling scenes, more meaningful content. (Yes, AJL, if you are reading this 😊, even if it takes longer to publish)

One point that particularly confused me is how AJL likes to more or less turn character’s characters around almost completely. Happened with Hope’s first man who seemed to be perfect but then turned out to be NOT FINE at all in later books. Same with Alex in this and the previous book. From totally fine pal to sexist patriarchist that lacks spine? Hm. Didn’t really sit well with me. I know that this is meant to bring dimension to both the characters and the universe in general. People and events are not black and white. After reading hundreds of books here it just seemed too artificial and forced as characters don’t get more shades of grey (haha) but rather painted over from white to black. Sophie’s change of character felt a bit more natural but should also get more explaining in later books.

AJL is clearly a skilled storyteller. With the fans constantly asking for more and more in this very intimate FB group of hers, it may be a bit of a pressuring factor that this is owed to.

I just wasn't feelin' the love as much for this episode. To be honest, I am getting tired of the pages of mendacity leading up to a big explosion of action at the end and then a cliffhanger.

I do NOT like cliffhangers. Regardless of what is said about back in the old days where readers had to wait a year for the next book in the series, I would patiently wait until the series was complete and THEN read the books.

I waited twenty three freakin' YEARS for Robert Jordan - and had to angst through his death, but I did read get to read the whole WoT series at once - I would just buy them and put them on the shelf until the series was complete.

Look, I can understand being unable to work through a plot to get to a good ending, especially in a series that builds on what came before. But when there is so much fluff before you get to where things actually happen, that is just off putting and it makes me very disappointed.

Because I am trying to follow a series that I enjoy, I have to plan for it. I read a tremendous amount of books and I resent being told that there is two books and then SURPRISE - there is now a book three.

It makes me want to give the whole series up, especially because I am not really invested in these characters as much as I suspect I could be if the writing were tighter and more condensed and also if there was less real world social movement recognition being battered into my brain for a majority of pages.

I would also add that this is an MC book, I have a good idea of what I am buying when I click on it and the real world social relevance debate isn't something that I want to focus on because that debate and these characters don't mesh well.

(It isn't that the real world debates going on right now are not important, but I don't want a rehash while I am trying a to experience a little real world holiday.)

I just want to read a good story with guys who are only a little on the wrong side of the law and yet still have a basic respect for their one and only and fall in love and have some drama and then get an HEA.

AJL has got a good thing going on with this whole series, but it is so drawn out and lagging in parts that I find myself losing my investment in seeing what happens next - and that is a terrible thing when all I want to do is lose myself in a good book.

Meh. It pains me to say, but this second part of the epic story between Zero and Lilly did nothing for me. As I'm way too curious, I will probably still skim the third book. The whole series now feels like a huge soap opera with hint of suspense (even though it's all so predictable), lots of old and new characters; and a lot of recycled tropes.

I have never been a big reader, but last year a new years resolution changed that and Lost Kings series was my random choice to start on. To my pleasant surprise I was instantly hooked and am so in love with this series. Each book is so well written and you get sucked in to the characters storylines. I have been counting down the days for this next one. Thank you Autumn for turning me in to something I'd never be. A reader.

4 Lilly and Z Stars

I enjoyed parts of this book which is Book 13 in the LOKI series and the second full length novel about Z and Lilly , but I didn't love it which is the first time ever that I haven't loved one of Autumn's books. Before fellow die hard fans shoot me down....let me explain.

To reiterate I am deeply immersed in all things Lost Kings MC. I have adored each book and I was on tenterhooks waiting to find out the conclusion to the cliffhanger that Book 12 ended on. As things have worked out there will now be a third full length book about them and this one ended on a cliffhanger too. I don't mind there being 3 books (I will devour all things LOKI) and I totally roll with whatever an author thinks works best for his / her characters - after all , the author is the person who pours their soul into the book and in Autumn's case she creates fantastic heroes and heroines that capture the reader's heart and imagination. In this novel, Lilly and Z are together and building their relationship plus Z is contending with a change in his MC role. These guys are so protective and when Lilly is in danger , Z goes full alpha male protector which I loved.

So, why not 5 stars? I don't like my LOKI men being split up. I desperately miss them all being together Upstate. Z is filling in as President of the Downstate LOKI Charter and in this novel we see quite a bit of Murphy and Teller supporting him. There are a few parts with Rock and barely any with Wrath - maybe I'm suffering Wrath withdrawal symptoms because he and Rock are my favourites! I wish I could be more articulate , but my heartfelt feeling is that something huge is missing. My guys need to be together. I miss the banter and fun and yes, there was some of that but something just felt off. My hope is pinned on the fact that Z expressed his dislike of being away from his brothers too and his wish to be home again.

I'm itching for the next book. This cliffhanger was more intense than the last one. I have a soft spot for Z and need to see him get his HEA!

**ReRead via audible September 2025 and if I was rating for the first time , I would give it 5 stars. Maybe I felt differently because I read via audible or maybe my view of things is a little different now - I’m not sure. Superb narration by Troy Duran and Elizabeth Hart**

HEA? No. I'm hopeful the next one will have one though.
Cheating? No way. Z and Lilly are both incredibly loyal. Z's ex conquests raise their heads but Lilly is a cool chick and handles it all very well.

Z and Lilly’s story continues with Zero Regret. Z has his work cut out for him with his new status in the club. Also protecting and taking care of his old lady Lilly and their son are his main priorities. His family and club is his life. It’s not easy being Z but he’s learned from the best - Rock.
Lilly has to come clean to Z about her past and it’s not easy. It’s emotional but Lilly is a fighter and survivor. These two are incredible. Jesus!! their connection and chemistry is insane. With every book they just keep firing up the pages. They trust each other and won’t let anyone or anything come between them ever again and now they have Z’s brothers to protect them as well.
Z goes far to makes sure no one will ever hurt Lilly or his club. Zero Regret is entertaining as hell. This is book 13 in the Lost Kings MC and it’s still as fabulous as book 1. Full throttle ahead to the next book and towards more answers cause that ending was insane.

you guys .... I'm starting a little black book list of authors that CANNOT BE TRUSTED ... fucking hell I have feelings right now!

Okay, so this happened ... at this point, I'm just gonna write that in every review of this series LOL. #JesusSaveMeFromThisWoman! There are a lot of questions from Zero Tolerance (Z & Lilly's beginning(ish)) that are answered in Zero Regret, HOWEVER, the author leaves you with like a bazzillion OTHER unanswered questions. THIS is why she can't be trusted LOL

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I really enjoy reading this author's work. She's a consistent author and her storytelling talent is unrivaled. I've never read an author that can detail a journey as well as she does and not bore me to pieces. I mean she is detailed people. Her books are not short LOL And even when you think a journey is locked down ... think again ;) lol She doesn't make it easy on her readers. And honestly, she never disappoints.

I've been waiting for Zero's journey for a long time. He's never taken center stage in any book, but we met him 13 books ago LOL and we also met Lilly a looooong time ago. From the moment they landed on the page together SO MANY BOOKS AGO (lol) I have known they belong together. However, Autumn hasn't made it easy, for them or for me! There are times that I had doubt, and Autumn could still pull a fast one, but I doubt it.

The stories that make up this series are not always journeys to HEA for two people. They're club journeys. They're life journeys. They're all kinds of journeys. That's what Autumn does spectacularly well. SOOOOOO, if you're even thinking of starting this series anywhere but at the beginning, you're just ridiculous. I mean you can, but no. Don't do it. Every book has a purpose and every book adds a new layer and dimension to the Lost Kings MC. As much as these books are about people, they are equally and sometimes even more so about the brotherhood and sisterhood of the Lost Kings MC.

I'm going to assume that if you're reading this review and/or book, you've at least read Zero Tolerance so this should not be a spoiler for you ... Zero Tolerance began and solidified Z and Lilly's HEA. I have no doubt in my mind about that. I mean, yes, it could be argued that it was left as a HNF/kinda in the air at the end of the book, but if you think that, then you weren't paying attention. You're probably thinking that if that was the case, why TWO more books about these two beautiful people? Well, that would be because they have more story left to layer and unfold. <<<< THAT is why it is so important for readers to start at the beginning. No one's story is ever finished because that's just not how Autumn writes. And Z and Lilly, in particular, have a lot of layers that need to be uncovered and a lot of growth as individuals and as a couple that need to be fleshed out to us, the readers. So enjoy the ride. It's a bumpy one for sure, but this author ridiculously talented so I know you will enjoy it! #BetMe

Just like the rest of books in this series Autumn doesn't hold back and that's one of the many things that makes this series so special. Zero Tolerance ended with most of clutching our heads praying for more pages, there weren't but it was well worth the wait.
So much happens in this book I better shut up now (already deleted/re written most of this) but one click this book now so that you can join one hell of a ride.
Now to not so patiently wait for the next one.

Reread August 2021
I’ve loved Z forever but I’ve read his trilogy a lot and I do find myself skimming a bit these days.

Reread August 2019 in anticipation of book 3

Original Review
Even after 13+ books I’m still in love with this series. So much so that I got excited when this one ended unfinished and I found out there was going to be a third “Z” book. Fuck yeah!!!!

The writing is still stellar. The story weaving through the whole series is solid and intriguing and feels very organic. The characters are people who love with their whole hearts even though they cross many moral boundaries I’m still cheering them on from the sidelines eager to see just how far this series can go.

Omg I am absolutely blown away from this book . Lilly and Z are trying to work things out and z is acting President downstate when things get crazy and it will take you to the edge of your seat and just when you think things are going good with them Bam something else happens. Autumn has a great way of writing Z s story and let me tell you it's a roller coaster ride of emotions and now I'm trying to process what the hell just happened lol. Yes we have to wait for the next book but damn I still cant get my heart to settle down lol.kuddles Autumn on another Amazing Zs Story.

Part 2 of Z and Lilly's story, be warned I didn't realise when I read part 1, or I would have waited but this is a 3 part story (so far anyway). I HATE cliffhangers and not knowing before starting it.
This book has a couple per book or per duet or trilogy but main story enemy thread runs through series and characters or couples build from book 1 so best read in order.

There is ex drama.
No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine.
I liked that Z was all about Lilly once he saw her again despite his anger on her leaving and he'd been with others in the separation, one woman is still around at times.
He is angry but also his love for her shines through and he's able to deal with her kindly to find out the details of why she left.

Can I just say I am sooo happy this turned into a trilogy of sorts because I love Z and Lily! 🤗🤗 This book has all the feels! I went through tons of emotions while reading and was squealing OMG a lot! Lol Z is getting deeper and deeper into the downstate chapter in this book and is dealing with a lot of different and difficult situations. He’s also learning more and more about Lilly’s past and what really happened. Lily is getting more comfortable in her role as an Old Lady and getting closer to the gang while her and Z settle more into their domesticated life with Chance. I just love this group of characters so much and Autumns writing is stellar! You definitely want to read this book ASAP! Can’t wait for the 3rd part of Z and Lily!

Where do I even being

Z was so amazing and has been worth the wait since I fell in love with him Slow Burn. Him and Lilly are so perfect together I couldn’t think of a better match. I had so many theories going into this book I was not expecting the unexpected. I didn’t think I would ever get to like Lilly and she still some questions to answer for but zero regrets was amazing. I am such a huge fan of this series. I shook for a solid 10 minutes when I reached the end. I’m so emotionally involved with this brotherhood I could read Loki forever. Thank you Autumn for this amazing ride again! Her books are better than any roller coaster! 😘😘😘😘

Z, Z, Z.... Certainly Worth The Wait...

I had been waiting for Z's story for a long long time. Agonizingly so. But the wait has certainly been worth it. This book is a testament to that!! Well done Autumn!

Reading book one, Zero Tolerance, was great to be finally in both Z and Lilly's heads and find out more about them which was good but reading Zero Regret, it felt like the intensity had gone up a couple of notches so I was not overly surprised to read there will be a third book. Yay!!

Z is exactly how I expected him to be. (I had high expectations of him and he met those expectations easily) So much love to give to his Brothers, which is always fun to read there lovable banter. But also his love for Hope, Trinity and Heidi, plus the little kiddies. He is so much deeper than people realise and it certainly shines out in the series but most definitely in his first two books.

His love for Lilly has always been there but to be in his head and read his feelings for her and his son has been great. How he has stepped up to the Prez of Downstate again is not surprising and when he gave his speech, it really showed how much he has grown, his maturity to step up plus the respect he has is pleasing to read.

I have always like Lilly and she really stepped up her game in this book which was great to see. Her love for Z is lovely to read. The banter she has with Hope, Mara and Trinity plus Heidi and Charlotte is fun as well.

Autumn has once again created an emotionally charged masterpiece that has me hanging out for more of this amazing series with some of the best characters that I will keep coming back for more. Again and again.

Truthfully Z was always a secondary character to me the first couple books in this series. Then we got to see glimpses of him and with Lilly in later books that had me hoping and wishing the two of them would become a *GASP* couple. Being the second book in Z's story I am so in love with Z, Lilly and Chance!! Since the first book Slow Burn, I adopted the Lost Kings as my extended family, and no I am NOT crazy, just invested. If you've gotten this far I'm sure you are too!! My favorite line that made me laugh really hard,"That table probably has more STDs than a truck-stop wh*re." There were many, many times I laughed out loud but that one was the best. And the line that rang so true that I even wrote it down was,"Nothing worth having comes without risking your heart." I absolutely LOVE every book in this series and I can't recommend all of them enough!! I tend to have a book hangover each time I finish a LOKI book, and this book was no exception! So get that finger to one-clicking now!! You won't Regret it, I promise! Enjoy!!

Another good one in the Lost Kings series!

I enjoyed every book in this series and this one is no exception. Was a little disappointed in the ending but the story does need more time. Already have the next on pre-order. Lilly is sometimes very frustrating but Z is a heartwarmer. As always I laughed. I cried. I stayed up all night reading. Definitely give this series a try. You won't be disappointed.

Wow this one kept me on edge!!!! Like all Autumns books do, but this will be a top favorite! I love Z and his dedication to doing what’s right and what’s best for the Lost Kings. His dedication to the ones he loves is amazing. He fights for Lily and their son and to make everything right, nothing will stop him! The emotions in the book gives you all the feels, I love it!!!!

Can't wait for this book to come out. In the past year, I find myself rereading the whole series over and over again until the next book comes out. Never stop writing the series!
