Worth Trying

Rate this book
"I can't come out because I can't let them down. But I never dreamed that he would make me feel alive again, either."

Caleb Barker is trying. But it's difficult being a widowed single dad. Keeping up with three kids, the house, and his sales job doesn't leave him much time to sleep, let alone even think about moving forward, romantically. Right now, his sole focus needs to be creating a stable home for his kids, and to do that, he needs to get a promotion - and to get a promotion, he's finally ready to admit that he needs some help.

"I know I should be careful. He's my boss. But it's so easy to forget that when he touches me."

Ethan Collier is ready to escape the city - and more importantly, his string of loser ex-boyfriends. It's time to get his life back on track, and to do that, he needs a job. Getting the position as Caleb's manny should help Ethan gain enough stability to go back to school. He just never accounted for the children's dad being a DILF.

Welcome to Worthington, Texas, where the heat doesn't just rise in the summer - you'll feel it all year long in these stories of older men and their younger lovers. Every book in the Worth It series can be read on its own, but with so many familiar characters to love, why stop with just one? This book features a little hurt with a lot of comfort, the courage to come out of your comfort zones, and a teenager who really does have all the answers.

This has an abundance of editing issues and a relationship that’s pretty superficial, with little to fill in the blanks between the sex. On the face of it the characters are likeable but it felt like Ethan had just come in and replaced the dead ex-wife instead of the two men really developing and building anything more than that.

This book could have been good if it had gone through another 2 or 3 rounds of editing. From 46% there were 34 issues with grammar, continuity or instances where words were missing.

A lot of the time, it was just...boring. The sex scenes were often a bit cringey as far as word choice went; I mean, "tube of his cock" and "piss slit"? Not exactly sexy wording (for me, anyway).

They two main characters had no described physical appearance. All I know is that they found each other "gorgeous". Caleb acted like a 20 year old, and the only way I knew he was older was because he had some grey chest hair. Ethan was...I don't even know. What colour was his hair? Was it straight? Wavy? Curly? Was he short? Tall? Twinky?

What was he running from his ex for? Why didn't his ex's threat from the start of the book come back into it? What was the point of mentioning any of it if it was never going to be explained.

And the epilogue? Where did that come from? It was all just kind of...rushed.

Overall, I'm disappointed that I spent two days trying to read this book. Will I read the next one? Who knows. Maybe the next time I want to practise my editing skill.

Love is expressed throughout this book so beautifully...
love between parents and children, between friends, between family members, and ultimately between lovers.

Ethan is escaping from a painful past with an ex.
Caleb is struggling to be a single parent after his wife has died.
Once Caleb admits he needs help on the home front on a daily basis with his three children, he hires Ethan as their nanny. What begins as a simple arrangement quickly morphs into love neither can deny.

Caleb's sons were totally believable characters and Cara's maturity was refreshing.
Of course you've got the friends and family members who give their opinions, self doubts on whether or not they can meet the needs of everyone involved and questions about their future plans.

I'm hoping there will be a story for Finn... He really needs to find someone who will shake up his world. Plus I'm wondering if Grayson and his new therapist, Dylan, will become more than patient and health care professional.

Ethan lied to Ethan .... Chapter 5 , second paragraph.

Question: What's with all those authors/editors/traders - or whatever is their name nowadays - for not re-reading their works? I can't read a single book without finding something to bother me.
What's to say other than the story is cliché and botched? I might be very demanding and caustic in my critiques but, seriously Authors, you don't leave me any choice.

1 * star because I dropped the book after the chapter 5. No, this book is definitely not ''worth trying''. Don't waste your money on it.

I'm confounded by the high rating for this book. I mean no disrespect and this is just one readers opinion. It started off ok but with the editing issues (words missing; character confusion) and Ethan's over the top culinary accomplishments I found it hard to stay engaged. The timing of all the big life events also seemed a bit unrealistic.

Worth Trying is book one in the Worth It series set in the small town of Worthington, Texas. I love the premise of this series and the setting of small-town USA. However, this book wasn’t one of my favorite tropes—widowed father, Caleb, falling for the younger manny, Ethan. That said, it kept my attention enough to finish the book. This is a short novel and didn’t have the world building or character development that a longer novel might have. As the start of a series, it had enough to make the setting interesting, successfully introduced secondary characters I expect to see more of in later books, and the characters each had unique personalities.

The cover is attention grabbing and the formatting works. Unfortunately, there are some issues that make the book a challenging read. The grammar issues are more about missing and incorrect words than missing punctuation, and there are a handful of consistency problems. These issues are significant enough to pull the reader out of the story. A good proofread before publication would have done wonders for this book. Hoping the next book overcomes these issues.

i read this book as part of an arc program. In this book, Caleb is a single father of three children and he decides to hire help because he feels like he can't do everything anymore. Caleb's wife had died a few years ago and he has been alone since. When Ethan left his boyfriend and moved back to Worthington, he went to work as a manny for Caleb in hopes of saving enough money to eventually go back to medical school. Ethan fit in with the family and everything was going great, except he had a crush on Caleb. Caleb also had a crush on Ethan, but he never told anyone he was bisexual and he didn't know how his family would react to him being with a man. Caleb also didn't want to risk having his kids get attached to someone for them to leave. When Ethan accidentally found Caleb's stash of gay porn, he knew Caleb liked men for sure. Ethan knew it was a risk to get involved with Caleb and he could lose his job, but he couldn't help himself. When Caleb and Ethan acted on their attractions to each other, Caleb wanted to hide it from the kids and Ethan agreed. They began a secret fling, but Ethan felt things were only going to get harder because he had feelings for Caleb and Caleb wouldn't acknowledge him as a love and he wondered if he could continue working for him. I enjoyed this story. I felt so bad for Caleb, i thought he lost so much and thought he couldn't be happy again. Ethan really loved Caleb and wanted to be with him, but he couldn't live in secret. I loved the relationship Ethan had with the kids and i think he brought them all closer. Good one.

A superb read. Truly enjoyed following along with Caleb and Ethan on their journey, in which two beautiful individuals whom may have never crossed paths came together due to tragedy and necessity.

Caleb, a widowed father of three kids, (a girl and two boys), tries to prove he can handle doing it all. Caleb tries to conquer the loss of his wife, being a single parent and only provider alone, only to become a bit overcome. Once he realizes he can't do it all alone, he chooses to hire a nanny.

Ethan, having recently ended a horrific relationship, decided to move away and move on. Having always wanting to be a doctor, Ethan knows any possibility of this goal will have to wait until several factors are conquered, the biggest is affordability, not just for college but for living on his own.

Ethan applies for the nanny position and is hired by Caleb. One turn leads to another, and as the reader is drawn into the lives of Caleb, Ethan and Caleb's three kids there is fun, laughter, love, and loss.

I,, as an involved spectator relish what the two men have, and what develops as the story moves along, one can't help but root them on!
There is steamy hot sex, romance and sweet, kind love. There are ups and downs but true love prevails!
Will the kids be as accepting? Do they approve who their dad fell in love with or that Ethan is a man? I suggest you read this story and follow the journey of Ethan "the nanny", Caleband his family, it is a great route to travel along!

the problem with having a wound is that as they heal, they scab, and even a scab fading or flaking away hurts a little, leaves something behind, and makes the new ting a bit different than it was before the wound.

as true with hearts as with heartaches.

Caleb and Vivian wee best friends before they were ever a romantic pair. When she died, he lost not just a lover, but a real partner.

Once upon a time they may have avoided having nanny type help - determined to have their children growing up with parents, not just hired help.

But that was when there were two of them. And Caleb finally accepts he cannot work full time and manage the kids alone.

And then hot young Ethan steps in and changes their world. When the two fall for each other, there are a few speed bumps. Not being out, and not having fully grasped or accepted being bi-sexual is a mine field of conflicts for Ethan, and blocks he anticipates from his own children and brother. More may have been in his mind than theirs.

Can Caleb and Ethan come to terms with themselves and each other, and hang onto the family they have been building?

Sometimes love is so much more than a label and a set of assumptions - its hanging onto each other and facing life.

New book in the series. I loved the romance and I recommend it.

Caleb needed someone to help him with his children, because he couldn't take care of everything. Ethan needed a job and a fresh start, so he could move on with his life. Neither of them expected to find more.

I love that Caleb decides to ask for help, that he sees that he can't do everything, but I don't like that he's ashamed of it. In my opinion, a person who needs help and doesn't ask for it out of pride is weaker than someone who recognizes it.

And I don't like that he is still hiding. It's not just for his children, it's for himself. He doesn't want to recognize who he is and what he feels.

Ethan is braver, because he didn't hide, even though it cost him his relationship with his family. And, although it's not easy, he has managed to leave his ex and fights to start over. He wants to go back to university, he wants to fulfill his dreams.

I love his relationship with Caleb's children. He is understanding with them, he listens to them. And it hurts that Caleb doesn't have that relationship with Cara, that she trusts Ethan before she trusts him. But it's very credible. Sometimes it's easier to talk to a stranger than to someone in your own family.

I love them together.

I love Grayson. He wants his brother to be happy, but he also wants him not to hurt Ethan.

I also love Cara, who was lost at the beginning of the book, but who becomes a girl as understanding as Ethan.

Caleb is a widower doing his best to raise his three children but eventually realizes he needs help.
Ethan needs a fresh start and hopes taking a job as a manny will be the start of good things.
You can feel the excitement pouring off of Ethan as he heads back to his hometown for a fresh start and you can feel the frustration and weariness in Caleb as he tries to juggle everything. There is a spark of attraction that both Caleb and Ethan do their best to ignore but the more time they are around each other, the more difficult that becomes.
The possibility of upsets leaves you anxious for answers and as you read their story, you realize it is full of hope for a happiness. The main characters are likeable and relatable with a lot of tension, great kids, a solid connection, steamy sexy times, doubts, hope, laughs, and so much more that leads to love and a satisfyingly sweet HEA.
The secondary characters are pretty great too - I think both Finn and Grayson each deserve their own books.
The ARC I read needed a lot of editing and l do not know if the final copy was fixed.

This was such a sweet and fun read. I really enjoyed both caleb and Ethans story. its probably my favorite out of all of them so far. I hope fin gets a story soon! I really enjoy his character in each story. Ethan is looking to start over and get away from his cheating boyfriend and lands a job as a nanny for a single dad with 3 kids. He didnt think he would start to develop feelings for his boss especially because falling for a strait guy with kids just said complicated all over it and he worked for the guy so it wouldnt he very professional to get involved with his boss. But sometimes you cant help how you feel and sometimes the person you assume is strait isnt so strait after all. caleb really enjoys having Ethan around and so do his children and ever since Ethan came into their lives, they feel like a family again and the kids notice their dad is happy again. I really enjoyed this cute single dad romance story. caleb lost his wife 2 years ago and didnt think he could ever be happy again and didnt think he could ever fall in love again but things always happen when you least expect it!

I had met Caleb in a previous book from this series and I found him quite genuine and lovely. Getting to know him more in this book was definitely great. He was way more complex then I realised. But that is the beauty of getting to know the characters more. Weither it be through snippets or from a book of their life own.
Ethan was definitely different to what I was thinking I was expecting, that was because I was thinking of a different character. But that being said I'm glad I was wrong. Ethan needed so much love and he came to the right place, being a nanny definitely you get that in gallons from kids.
This is such an amazing book, both characters seem to have a few things to work through but omg it was just to good to put down. Which was lucky for me I started reading earlier in the night or otherwise I would have ended up doing one of my all nighters with out realising.
I recommend this book very much it really is brilliant.

My heart ached for Caleb, he placed a ridiculous amount of pressure on himself because of a promise that he had made his late wife but finally realises that he simply cannot cope alone especially with a teenage daughter who is clearly going through something and a possible promotion that can only happen if he can start concentrating more time on his job. With this in mind and despite the guilt he feels he hires a nanny. Along comes Ethan who just seems to slot into the family seamlessly and the children not only adore him but open up to him as well. The chemistry between Ethan and Caleb is undeniable but Caleb is dealing with the guilt of not only bringing Ethan in to take care of the children but also his feelings towards him, is this a betrayal of his wife's memory? These two could build something truly beautiful together but each has decisions to make that could make or break what they could potentially have. What decisions will they make?

My first Peter Styles... Won't be the last

So we have Ethan, the sweet guy, who has just fled from a bad relationship, back to his hometown in Texas. He moved in with his best friend and lands an amazing job as a nanny for Caleb, a widowed father of 3.
So immediately after starting this book I had the feeling I was going to love it. The writing style was perfect and engaging. The characters were all great. You have this incredible chemistry between Ethan and Caleb and the fact the it was dual pov was the icing on the cake. There is a nice but of build up to their romance, but not too much where you are skimming pages out of boredom, waiting for the magic to happen.
I liked that Caleb's late wife was as much an integral part of the family's life as she was. Gone but not forgotten. The three children were adorable and accepting, but in a very organic and believable way.
I cannot wait to read more of Peter Styles' books!!!

This is romantic, steamy, sweet and engaging. Ethan is friendly, caring and full of energy. Caleb is stubborn, unsure and focused on work. Caleb is trying to get a promotion, so he hires Ethan as a nanny. Caleb doesn't understand why he has such a strong reaction to Ethan, so he tries to ignore it. Ethan feels the spark he gets whenever he's near Caleb is torture, because Caleb is straight, then Ethan massages Caleb's neck, and gets an interesting response. So eventually they end up in bed, but they have to hide their activities, because Caleb doesn't want his kids to know, he thinks they'd be mad. They have some steamy encounters and seamlessly evolve into a family, but it takes forever for Caleb to accept that he has fallen for Ethan. I loved the energy of the story, and the characters.

What to say about this book?
The cover and the premise was good.
There were quite a few glaring errors. Not just grammatical ones, either. There was a point they were having nookie and he says something about being quiet as to not wake the kids. When, in fact, the kids weren't even in the house.
It was a simple story.
Cliche to a fault. Very wash, rinse, and repeat.
If you're looking for a easy read and with an easy, simple plot. Then I think this is for you. I always expect a little more excitement from my books. More substance. But I must admit I am also a picky reader.
Overall it's not a bad read. Not a great one either. It's right in the middle.
Would I reread it? No.
Would I recommend to others? If this style of story is for you, then yes. The writing overall was nice.
Would I read another book from this author? Yes, I already got book #2. Hoping that it's a little less cliche and predictable.

Ooooohhh, this started off good and got great! I bit my fingernails and stomped my feet waiting for it to happen and then YES! Oh my word, this story is so much fun! I knew Ethan and Caleb would get together at some point. I just did not think it would be that hot.

I want Finn to be my best friend! "You *** someone's dad! I can't even look at you! Don't tell me anything! Tell me everything! But don't look at me while you tell me!" Lol he is so awesome. Finn beings levity to the serious situation and I adore him for it. Actually, I adore Ethan even more because he has his awesome-sauce Finn around.

It is not all fun and games. Ethan and Caleb do have to take risks to grow and they do in spectularly bad fashion which is part of the fun of this story. I was riveted, absolutely riveted!

Ethan returns to Wortington and gets a job as the nanny to Caleb Barker's three children.
Leaving Gaton while his controlling and cheating boyfriend was at work had Ethan feeling freer every mile he drove. He was heading to Worthington where he grew up to stay with his friend Finn and take up a job as nanny to Caleb Barker's three children.Arriving to start work Ethan is surprised by the pull of attraction to his tall handsome new employer but shuts down the feeling as he needs this job. Caleb is drowning in being a single parent and his work and is desperately in need of assistance is shocked at the beautiful young man who arrive to become nanny to his children and feels a hint of concern but shoves it aside. A MM romance to relax and enjoy.

Ethan needed a fresh start after his last disastrous relationship and moved in with his childhood best friend Finn. Finn was also responsible for mentioning the nanny job Caleb was hiring for. Caleb was stuck in a rut at work and in over his head raising his three children after the death of his wife. Ethan and Caleb both tried to keep thing professional for the sake of the kids but quickly realized they had a deeper connection that couldn't be ignored any longer. Caleb almost let fear completely ruin the best thing that had happened to his family and his children and brother called him on it. I laughed at how Finn always seems to mother his friends and help them navigate their tricky relationships. Hopefully Dylan will do more than just help Grayson walk again.

This is such a great story. First it starts with a common problem. How does a single parent hold down a good job while trying to raise and be there for his/her kid? Then multiply the kid by three and - wow - that's a full time job in itself! Enter the manny to help manage the home front, and - yeah - things start to sizzle.
The concept was realistic, the characters were endearing, and the concerns and fears and doubts that Caleb and Ethan had were real and genuine. The struggle of a single parent between making sure the kids are happy and finding his/her own happiness is surely one of the hardest. Peter Styles has written another great love story with heart and characters you can't help but cheer for.

Total winner for me!

Ethan was disowned after coming out and just walked out of another bad relationship. After moving back to his hometown, he's looking for a nanny position while he figures out how to get back into medical school.

Caleb is losing his mind. His wife died two years ago and his three children are his main priority, but right now his job might be at stake if he doesn't do something about his schedule. When he hires Ethan to be his nanny, he's surprised at the instant attraction, yet is fully aware that NOTHING can happen.

Oh, man. This had me from the start and I couldn't wait for the HEA. The kids were perfect. The relationship just totally worked and I really enjoyed reading this one.

This one is just great! There is hurt. Our guys have some hurts and wounds in their lives, but it’s not overwhelming at all. Their struggles make you care about them and relate to them in a more real way.
There is also a sweet (and HOT) romance, with comfort elements.
Way more comfort and fun happiness in this story than sadness and hurt.

The kids are great, their portrayal is spot on. I loved reading about their interactions with Ethan and Caleb.

The only bad thing I have to say for this book is there were numerous errors. Missing words and misspelling of words like “me” being spelled “my”.

MOST IMPORTANTLY this story made me feel happy! It was a joy to read and the ending made me cry from all the happiness and heartwarming feels.

Absolutely a recommended read!

I thoroughly enjoyed this next release by this author. I think this is his first attempt at a "nanny" story and I have to say that he pulled it off. The characters were sweet and strong. The children were cute with the daughter having growing pains and a sexual and identity crisis that most teenagers face at some point or another. There was some mention of verbal bullying. Angst lends spice to the story as Ethan and Caleb get to know each other and Caleb worries about his daughter. Has a sweet and fulfilling HEA at the end. I would highly recommend this book for others to read as it is entertaining and Nanny stories are some of my favorites. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.

Fantastic! Caleb's wife died two years previously leaving with three adorable kids. Juggling parenthood and job compromises his scheduling and puts his job at risk. Ethan out of a bad relationships moves back home and takes a job as Caleb's nanny. Ethan is a hit with the kids and has feels for Caleb. Do Ethan and Caleb give in to the attraction while navigating child rearing? When does Ethan go back to med school? Can the kids see Ethan and Caleb together? This is an adorable read. Mr Styles knows how to do relationships. The characters are absolutely likeable and the story flows. You root for Ethan, Caleb and the kids. Well done! I received an ARC from Booksprout for a review.

Ethan has had enough of bad relationships so he moves back home he is looking for a nanny job until he decides to go back to med school. Ethan gets a nanny job working for Caleb and there’s an instant attraction, Ethan loves the kids and they love him so why is Caleb holding back and will he lose Ethan before things have really begun?. I loved this story it’s a fantastic read a wonderful m/m romance and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Caleb is afraid to love again after his wife died two years earlier. Ethan shows up into his life as his nanny and changed everything.

Ethan is starting over again and when Caleb his boss who he thought was straight as an arrow isn’t so much they start a fling that both think will never work.

I fell in love with these two live struck men! You never know what you have until it’s gone. Good thing it doesn’t take them long to figure it out! It’s a very low angst love story, loved it from beginning to end!

"...he looked like I was murdering a puppy in front of him—rapt with something that almost bordered on horror."

This seriously needed a proofread. I can let go of a few typos or the wrong word in a sentence or a word missing from a sentence every now and again, but this was so much it was distracting. Ethan was biting his lip to contain his sex noises from the kids…who were spending the night with the grandparents. Then Caleb lubed up, lubed Ethan, then used the same fingers to lube himself…again? I guess it doesn’t hurt to be extra prepared. Then there was the quote above...a description of his sex face. Um...not sexy.

This is a really sweet story. Caleb, widowed Father of three children, lost his wife 2 years back. He finally accepts that he needs some help and hires Ethan as his nanny. It doesn’t take long until both recognize that there is obvious chemistry there. But can Caleb risk it to be with a man and could he come out afterwards. Will Ethan Risk his heart to be with a man who isn’t out?
This book was full of love and emotions, and some really hot scenes. I also shed some tears. I loved to be a part of Caleb‘s and Ethan’s journey in finding a happy ending.
