Charity Bryant needed to escape New York and the life she was forced into by circumstance and death. Her cousin and best friend, Clara May lived an entitled life after losing both parents at a young age and coming by a substantial inheritance. She had taken Clara May into her confidence about her plans to travel West to Texas to take up a proposal of marriage from the rancher, Alsop. Clara May would hear none of it, though unless she went along to make sure the match was good enough and that Charity was in no potential danger.
Alsop lived with his widower brother, Edrick on a successful ranch near the Texan town of River Creek. Edrick was embittered after the loss of his wife and unborn son and did not seem willing to befriend the women his brother had invited into their lives. Clara took solace in building a relationship with the crippled son of one of the ranch hands. The little boy's name was Jacob and his Pa, Billy looked after him as best he could as a single father working the hard life of a ranch hand.
Eventually, Clara May is satisfied that she is no longer needed in Texas and prepares to return to New York. Charity and the ranchers feel that their attempts to convince Clara of the importance of her remaining on the ranch are falling on deaf ears. Then fate deals her beloved Jacob a bad hand and Clara must reassess her priorities and plans for starting a charity organisation back home in New York, to benefit underprivileged city boys. What does life intend for the two women? One has a life in New York and the other has a future in Texas. Will the cousins be parted in order to fulfill their destinies?
The prelude got my interest up and I wasn't disappointed. Enjoyed reading it completely. Just when you think you know what's going to happen next a twist is thrown in. I recommend this book to those who enjoys reading a good clean love story. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I've enjoyed reading the story, Saving Charity, the author did a great job of putting together the characters in this very interesting story. The women set out on a journey by train, heading west.
This story'st two heroines travel westward for one to marry The unengaged woman starts tutoring a crippled young boy. When the father dies, she receives a marriage proposal so she can adopt the child.
As I read this story names started to become familiar. Once 4 main characters were brought up I realized I already read this! I did not put it down. I told myself it must be my type of story if I was reading it twice and I really did enjoy it, though I do wonder what happened to one character.
