I was raised by wolves. I never imagined I would be forced to marry one.
All my life I've been an outsider. A human raised by a pack of wolf shifters. And now that that I have returned to the pack for the alpha contest, the unimaginable has happened. I am to be the next alpha's omega. I am to give birth to werewolves.
What scares me most is who will be the next alpha. Will it be Axe, my protector, my greatest friend since childhood? Or will it be Hawk, who only wants to control and dominate me? Which wolf will win the alpha contest and claim me for life?
Note: Intended for readers 18+ only due to mature themes and content.
J.L. Wilder likes wild things! Her alpha shifters are gruff and tough, with a pinch of tenderness. Curl up with these bad boy book boyfriends, and they will have you howling at the moon!
When not writing shifter smut, J.L. spends as much time as possible exploring the outdoors. She loves getting into trouble with Ace, her Siberian Husky.
The over all store line was ok but the writer left out a lot on details. Also the story line did not flow well for me. I feel like the author had all these ideas and just threw them in instead of outlining it out better. I didn’t get how the werewolves can die from cancer at the beginning of the book but then the alpha can keep them from bleeding to death towards the end. Or how someone can forget the pack if they leave town.
This is a hard one to rate - I am going with 2.6 Stars There is so much potential and I was engaged I liked the overall story line and the characters There were so many subtle hints as well as the obvious that there was a bad past history - just never any why really The two romantic characters were solid with regards to their chemistry and interaction and I appreciated the small glimpses into their past
My problem was the story felt rushed There is so much potential here not just with the main story line but secondary plot lines and mysterious supporting characters My curiosity was definitely piqued - but sadly never sated Too many scenes felt rushed or were missing important details Also, small plot holes that drove me insane - the illness thing was definitely one of them - and the ending was really rushed This has so much potential IMO - I truly hope the author takes another stab at this cast of characters
I saw this while browsing through KU books and it looked really interesting. Unfortunately, I found it to be a bit boring. I felt like I started the book in the middle because it started with Kiki coming home after being away for 5 years and there wasn't a whole lot of backstory. I felt like there were unanswered questions, and honestly, it really wasn't what I thought it was going to be based on the synopsis.
This book was an amazing little surprise for me. I really enjoyed it! The precis on Goodreads, though, is horrible! Really doesn't accurately explain what the story is about.
So, Kiki was adopted by a werewolf when she was 5. Being a human, she could never really be a part of the pack and was picked on growing up. She becomes friends with werewolf boy Axe, who is a scrawny guy, and they're like the two musketeers. After high school, she leaves the town for college and is gone five years. She comes back because her adoptive mother is dying.
As soon as she gets back, she meets back up with Axe, who of course is now a big, tough, hot guy.
She also learns that the current pack alpha plans to step down, and Axe, as well as a few other guys, including the current alpha's son, Hawk, will be competing to become the new alpha. Part of the pack culture in this book is that when a new alpha takes over, he will choose the pack's omega. Apparently, he will get some kind of mystical feeling that will point him to the woman who will best co-lead the pack and be his mate.
When Axe and Kiki first start getting reacquainted, they actually try hard to keep things platonic because they know if Axe wins, he will need to choose a pack female as his omega, and their relationship would have to end.
I have no idea why the precis makes it sound as if it's a foregone conclusion that Kiki will be the omega. It's actually a big part of the book how most of the pack don't think she should be involved in pack business. Even Axe, who loves her, is resigned to the fact that she can't be the Omega.
Anyway, despite the misleading description, I think this is a really nice second-chance romance. The MCs complemented each other well, and the story was interesting and different. There were a few little surprises in here as well. Although the outcome is what you'd expect, how they get there is unexpected.
After a rash of terrible shifter books recently, it was great finding such a nice read. It's not super steamy, but the writing is good and the story is interesting.
I will admit that this unusual yet intriguing wolf shifter romance caught my attention & kept it until the last page was turned. The story-line & plot is well-thought out and written with excellent suspenseful occurrences. The story-line is well-written & entertaining with complex characters that continued to develop throughout the story to become emotional strong individuals. There is: wolf shifters, humans, a feisty human omega raised by the pack (Kiedra), her dying mother (Sylvia), a kind & fair alpha (Roland), her friend & wolf shifter (Axe), a controlling male wolf shifter (Hawk), twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, drama, adventure, action, violence, threats, secrets, memories, grief, anger, verbal conflict, physical conflict, confrontations, legalities, devious plans, manipulations, deceit, unexpected surprises, contentment, love, some steam and a well-deserved happy conclusion. I really enjoyed reading this shifter romance & would recommend it.
J.L. is a relatively new author for me and I really enjoy his/her style of writing. Everything I've read so far is a four or five star. “The Human Omega” is a short, fun, five star romance. It is very romantic with plenty of surprises before reaching the HEA. Although human Kiera was raised in a wolf-shifter pack. She returns home to see her dying mamma and reunite with her old friend and wolf-shifter Axe. Kiera is shocked when she is chosen as omega for the new alpha of the pack. What will she do? “The Human Omega” is a unique fast-paced read that will keep you glued to the pages until the very end. This is not an ARC as I purchased the book on the Canadian site.
Intriguing Shifter tale with a twist. When Kiedra is called home because her Mamma is dying, she doesn’t expect the secrets and lies she uncovers. Axe has loved Kiedra since they were little and acts as her support family when Sylvia finally passes away. Can Kiedra forgive Sylvia for the lies she was told? Will she and Axe find a way to be together in the aftermath of the Alpha contests? This story really kept me turning the pages, wanting to know what the outcome would be. I really enjoyed the final chapters. This is a book well worth reading.
You know there are a lot of different stories about Shifters. Some have bigger wolves some a littler larger than wild ones. Some have almost immortality and some about the same as a human. There are a lot of different stories but there is all one thing that is always the same and that is Pack Bond. Most of the time you will get a little of that come through the different stories but this story says it with a PUNCH. It hits in the chest. The story is especially well done. I enjoyed it very much. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
Oh yeah!! Readers are gonna Love Keidra and Axe's story.
A human raised by the pack turns out to be a secret that was kept from everyone. Axe and Hawk both will compete to become the next Alpha and will pick their Omega. Boy things get exciting when Keidra and the pack find out the secret. Who knew it was gonna change everything.
Mature readers, some strong language and sexual content.
I have voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. Reviewer for Nook Books and More Blog.
This was such a powerful story and just when you think you have it all figured out you don’t! Kiki is so fierce and extremely loyal and even though she doesn’t believe it deep down she’s part of the pack!! I do love how she never backs down and has this fire about her that you can’t help but admire!
The intense connection that Kiki and Axe share is undeniable as well but despite their electric connection they are very duty bound for what is best for their pack!!! Amazing story!!!
I kinda feel conflicted rating this one. When I read the burb, I expected short insta shifter romance. But no! The story was so much more with added complications nearing the end. The first few chapters kinda bored me, but the end was okay. Maybe what I dislike the most was the H's attitude. I found him a bit filmsy for my taste. I want my shifter H to be alpha badass, though he could be beta or ordinary shifter for all I care. But when it came to shifter romance, you better give me a devoted and loving shifter H; the one who wouldnt change his mind o love because the society say so.

The synopsis made it seem interesting but it was kind of boring for me. It seemed like it was going to be maybe a love triangle or two hot guys trying to compete for Kiki and to be alpha but it wasn’t. Kiki was annoying. Hawk was horrible and no competition for Axe. Axe was kind of weak to me. He felt like Hawk cheated during their battle but said nothing until later on. It was just meh for me. Just Kiki reconnecting with her childhood crush and finding out she may be more pack than she was lead to believe.
This was a intriguing shifter tale with a twist. I was expecting this to be a love triangle or Hawk and Axe competing for Kiki to be Alpha but it wasn't. I felt like there were unanswered questions, and honestly, it really wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Hawk was just a jerk throughout the whole story and definitely no competition for Axe. I also felt like Axe was weak why didn't he speak up sooner about Hawk. Can we talk about the ending there is no mention on how long time passed for these enemies suddenly become friends. I was so confused.
3.75 stars A good, fairly quick read. I got sucked right into the story.
Kiki was an orphan raised by Mamma (Sylvia), within a wolf pack. She goes off to college and is called back home ,years later, to Mamma's deathbed. By happenstance the next Alpha selection is happening at the next upcoming full moon. We meet Kiki and Axe, her childhood best friend, and a few more of the Pack. We find out secrets about Kiki. We also find her falling in love... and have to fight through quite a tangle of circumstances to get to her HEA ending.
I have read other books by this author and generally liked them. I did like how when Kiki came back the relationship she had with Axe was still there and they were able to rekindle that spark. I didn't understand how she could have gone five years without a thought one about Mamma and the Pack until Axe explained it was due to pack magic. There are some spelling and grammar errors, but that didn't bother me. What did was what happened at the end? How did Hawk and Leslie go from pure hateful jerks to being part of a loving family?
So, I was actually surprised by this book. I thought it was going to be a long drawn out novel, but in reality it was relatively short. Also, I thought it was going to be a very detailed storyline but it actually wasn’t. This book was clean and concise, and surprisingly all in all it worked and I was entertained and I liked it! It was a pretty good book. I wish it did have more detail and more explanations on things but it was actually good. I would give this a 4.0
This was one of the stupidest books I've ever read. Plot points never explained like curse, why some shifters are getting cancer, but the alpha has magical healing abilities.
But the thing that really made me hate this book was the HEA where the two enemies who tortured the very lame main couple including stabbing them, hitting them, etc were all bestest friends in the end.
This makes her other books (I bought the 4 pack bundle) seem like f*cking Jane Austen. I don't expect literary genius in shifter smut but really this one was embarassing.
Kiki and Axe have been best best friends since they were little kids. She went away to college and forgot all about the pack, until she gets a call asking her to come back because Mamma needed her. Axe is training for the contest for Alpha. They help eachother along the way and give into their attraction. The only thing I didn't like was in Chapter 10, the relationship was written incorrectly.
This one was a slow burning love story between Kiki and Axe and Hawk, the interloper who is trying to pull them apart. Old family secrets come out when Kiki's mamma does from cancer and then the old alpha steps down throwing the pack into turmoil. Kiki was a sweet and strong young woman who knows what she wants. Don't expect hot steamy passion in this one. This is the love story when you want to feel good....
This book is one of those feel good books that stays with you when you are finished reading. The characters draw you into their story and you feel yourself cheering for the good guys and booing for the bad guy. But, like all great books, good overcomes, the bad guy is reformed and a perfect HEA is reached. I’m sure I will read this book again and I will be looking for more from the author.
I enjoyed the book, however the drama was endless. There wasn't a lot of "Wolfy" business in the sense of changing and such. There was a lot of "pack" politics but it differed from other stories I've read. It also left some things unexplained at the end. Such as how everyone was just peachy after so much drama. Over all it was interesting if you're looking for something a little different.
This was a good shifter romance story. Good plot, good pace and interesting characters. I liked how the story and characters were intertwined and there were twists in the story. The love triangle was interesting, however I found that having the bad guy as stupid and abusive just gave him no edge in the story to have a chance to get the girl leaving you with the conclusion to how the story would end. However it was a decent story and an interesting take on shifter society.
This is a enjoyable story that kept me turning pages from beginning to end.
There is drama, suspense, twists and turns, secrets and surprises. The end left me with a couple questions, but not having those answers doesn’t take away from the story, just would have been good to know how Kiki and Axe came to be forgiving of the ones that tried to take everything from them.
The Human Omega: The Omega Diaries By J.L. Wilder Kindle unlimited purchase When Jamie gets a call from Roland telling her to come home, she is on the next plane. When she arrives to see Mamma in the hospital she wishes she would have come back sooner. The current Alpha Roland is stepping down so they are having a contest to see who is the next Alpha will be. The contest just so happens a couple of days after Jamie arrives on pack land.
A very strong storyline with lots of twists, action and romance. Fun and exciting with a very feisty heroine who may be the only human in a pack full of snarling wolves but who doesn't take sh** from anyone. You will have keep reading till the last page and eve then you will want more.
What a good storyline...and great characters too. Kiki and Axe were good together and Hawke was a jerk! Perfect for a good story. I liked how the author brought the story around from the little girl being dropped off by child services and Sylvia adopting her. Alpha Roland was a good fair man. Good reading.
Well, I’m gonna say it, I’m surprised. This was not a bad book, better than some of the trash I’ve been reading. My only thing is I’d like to have known how the family came to accept hawk and I would’ve like some really descriptive steamy scenes. That was the only thing truly lacking.
This was a rather enjoyable shifter story. It has a few new ideas to add to shifter lore and some characters I really enjoyed reading about. A few parts me questioning how they fit in and some never got answered, but I did enjoy the story and would love to read more from this town of shifters.
This book would of been interesting to read. But it had to many blank spots, through the book. I did not finish the book, got disgusted, because we're a lot empty blank spots, left out info,I could not see. It had jumped completely to something else. Even beginning chapter had a lot missing. Very disappointing!

Honestly I don't know what I was expecting from this book, but I was surprised. Turmoil and hidden pasts, love and hate, forgiveness, what else could you possibly want in a book?! I never know what to put into reviews that won't give anything away, that's always my pet peeve. So just read this NOW!
