Imagine searching your whole life for answers, and then finally finding them. A part of you is excited to know the truth. Another part of you is damaged, because you realize why it was so hard to learn answers.

Secrets aren't usually very pretty.

In the midst of all of it, the four monsters I've gotten too attached to are about to be reunited with the one woman they all once loved so deeply that they sacrificed everything to have an eternity with her.

They said they hated Arion, but I never see hatred when they're around him. I see frustration, resentment, anger, and pain, but never hatred.

They say they hate Idun, but until she returns, I won't know how true that really is. All the pretty monsters don't have simple emotions, because everyone has lived so long that it's gotten entirely too complicated to feel anything too much.

The only way to figure out what happens next is to stop stalling and start doing, while silently hoping it doesn't cost me everything I never knew I wanted...until it landed in my lap.

My life sucks so hard sometimes.

It breaks my heart to say this, but the series is getting worse with every passing book.

✴️ Violet is naive, dumb, and pathetic. She forgives everyone far too easily. It's constantly pointed out that if her men hurt her, she doesn't get angry: she cries.

✴️ Arion is absolutely obsessed with Idun.

✴️ EVERYTHING IS ABOUT IDUN. The plot is about Idun. The men all love Idun. THEY ALL CONSTANTLY KEEP SUSPECTING VIOLET OF BEING IDUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even a pathetic loser like Violet deserves better than them.

✴️ We're 4 books into a 6-book series. The romance is shite. The men keep lying to her, manipulating her, and barely know her.

✴️ This book is CONFUSING AF. I didn't understand a single thing that happened. How is Violet a Neopry and a Simpleton? When did we discover she's a beta or omega or whatever? What the hell does the apples-and-oranges stuff mean? What's the deal with her mother?

I had absolutely no clue. Things were just thrown at the reader for no apparent reason. My hopes aren't high for book 5.

3* all for Arion.

I’m having a bit of a love hate relationship with this series. It’s annoying me so much and I want to quit but something keeps me reading.

This is the fourth book and yes we’ve had some answers. But it’s a tangled mess.

I kinda like the guys but I’m less impressed that they’re all in some way obsessed with another woman. It doesn’t help that Violet is something of an idiot.

Arion is without a doubt my absolute favourite. He’s funny and I love him. The only thing I don’t love is his obsession with Idun.

“So your ghosts are haunting you more since the…
“They want her to hurry up and fuck Arion so it’ll break the bond between him and Idun.”.........
“This is your future captain speaking,” Arion says over the speaker once more. “I think the ghosts might be worth listening to after all. Let’s discuss that some more.”

“......This won’t happen on Air Arion when I’m your captain,” the psychotic vampire says with a careless tone.

There’s lots of reviews already so this is all you’re getting from me.

I’ll be honest if the next book was out now I’d read it. But I’d be surprised if I bother when it is released.

I'm still in...but...

Characters are still interesting.

Relationships between All The Pretty monsters is still consuming, sexy and very intriguing.

Writing still flows in a way that captures and holds my attention from start to finish.

BUT

CONFUSION...I have no idea what the heck is going on.

OVER IDUN...I'm starting to not care what will happen when she eventually graces us with her presence.

HEARTBREAK...Violet can't and doesn't want them all but how can she pick just one of her Monsters?

I'm at the stage where I admit that I'm baffled with my dedication to this series. I'm not one for a drawn-out storyline or filler...normally. It's just that these characters, the relationship dynamics and the connection between the monsters keep me coming back for more. I wouldn't even mind if this was a continuing series JUST GET RID OF IDUN. Let's move on to more exciting adventures for these Monsters.

Honestly, if I was to get my happy place, all the blokey monsters would face Idun and tell her to go jump in an active volcano. Hopefully, the psycho chicken would get trapped there for all eternity and Arion would stop being so bloody neutral.

I'm not sure I would want them all for Violet, but I am sure that I want them all in her life in some capacity. Vance is top of the pile with Damian, a close second. Emit has his moments...and they're bloody good moments, but he doesn't seem all in. Arion, bloody Arion. I don't trust that sneaky Vampyre. Actually, I don't think I trust any of them fully. Well, I maybe trust Vance the most but even he can be a little vague sometimes. Bloody hell, maybe I should just see how the cookie crumbles.

I will be back for more because I'm still enjoying this series. Now that I know the author is planning (for now) six books, it makes it easier to stick around for the rest.

If you're looking for an interesting and slightly kinky paranormal series, I highly recommend All The Pretty Monsters.

BEWARE OF THE CLIFFHANGERS!!!

I guess I’ll be the one to ask the question we’ve all been dying to know:

What drugs did Kristy take when writing these books?

Tbh, I didn’t finish this. I got to 85%. I’m actually extremely proud of myself for lasting that long because my patience with this series is now done.
Finite.
Nada.
GONE.

D N fucking F.

Next time, Cunning, please write a disclaimer or something if we are supposed to pop acid in order to understand what the flying fuck is going on.

Does anyone really know?
Who is Violet anyway?
Are you Violet?
Am I?
Vi— what’s her name again?

Exactly.

Violet started out as a character. In this book she’s been degraded down to mindless twat. The development went in the negative direction.
I have no idea what she’s doing anymore.

I will not be completing this series.
My favorite part is when Vance is shaking his head as if he doesn’t know what’s going on.
Funny that, Vance.
NEITHER DO WE.

Don’t get me STARTED on Monstar squad. Ya no I gagged at that too many times.

The cover is hideous too.

Sorry I’m being hella judgy but I had so many hopes for this book and I just can’t stand it any longer. It’s a piece of shitty work.

Wait, is it over?

Gypsy Moon is another book from All The Pretty Monsters series. I have no idea if the series is over or not. If it, I will be highly disappointed. Mostly because I didn't like the ending in this one. I've yet to meet Idun and I really want to. Mostly because I want the guys to have an epic battle between them and her.. so that they realize that Violet is the one. I want them all to fight for her because she only thinks she's the temporary fix for them. She thinks Idun is the one for them and I don't want that.

The smut definitely stepped up in this game. Plus getting to meet her mom was a good twist.. but the ending -ugh, that ending! I wanted more! I am happy that she freed all those people but what the hell is going to happen next? I have so many questions and I need answers stat.

Overall, I really hope there's another book coming out soon.

hmmm things are starting to feel a bit convoluted. There is so much going on and so much speculation.
The relationships seem to take one step forward then two back. Seriously, the lack of communication or the confession conversations are feeling a bit off.

Still, it is an interesting world and story, with fascinating characters. I can't stop myself from liking it.

Buddy read with RHR

Team VanHelsing

This series is either genius and goes right over my head or it’s the most over-complicated and head wrecking thing I’ve ever read.
Why these relationships need to be so back and forth I cannot understand. And the competitvness between the guys is not what I like in a harem, they are constantly referring to who is in front or behind...this is not the spirit of RH!!

But lets put a pin in it for now

Well anyway I’m firmly in team Vance camp and even better Vance&Damien together! Unfortunately we didn’t get any repeat performances *says as she downloads book 3 again just to read it again*

Up until 70% I was rolling downhill with it and enjoying it more than I did books 2 or 3. Then we hit a whole complicated gypsy political mess and I was lost again.
Arion is overrated – yes I like his psychotic ways but is he genuine or not?
Emit – friend zoned, poor bastard didn’t get a look in

Violets denial of the relationships is getting old especially when she keeps sleeping with them!
I can’t even work out if she’s a badass monster or a scared little girl with her head in the sand which I guess might be whole point of the series but its seriously confusing.
If there were any answers about omega/betas, apples/oranges etc etc then they were buried under a long drawn out dialogue that I probably couldn't be bothered rereading 3 times to get the gist of.

I liked the road trip and the fact they were at least all together for most of this! You know me and my need for the harem to be together.
At the end we get some “put a pin in it” notes which helped with that overused metaphor. Anna keeps getting mentioned so should I cross my fingers for a reappearance of my favorite ghost??
And we also get a promise that the “bigger, more intense” romance will come in book 5! I’m holding out for that – and if it ends up being Bobo or something …..

Okay soooo compared to the first 2-3 books, this one was pretty boring. I have been hooked to this series from the first book which I absolutely loved, it was a bit slow but i enjoyed reading it nonetheless. There were so many unnecessary scenes and those were dragged out. I really liked Violet’s character cuz she is mentally really strong and she is not desperate for the guys which i dont see in many RH books, most of the times in RH the heroines are weak and desperate but in this one Violet might be naive and does not have knowledge about the paranormal world she lives in, but she surely knows how to put the guys on their places. I love her strength and how she takes everything so simply without making a big deal out of it. She also knows how to call out the guys on their bullshit and make them pay for their mistakes. I am still confused with Arion cuz i dont understand that does he really want Violet or is he still in love with Idun. Damein on the other hand is proving himself that he wants Violet but sometimes it feels like he is using her. Emit on the other hand is such a sweet heart, he cares about Violet a lot and it shows. Vance last but not the least literally loves Violet so much, he is so protective and i love his character more than any other.

Well damn. I was so interested in reading this book after the last one but it had not been released. I was fine with waiting because even though the books get more confusing as they go on I was willing to soldier on.

I just read the reviews and it seems the author is still making things difficult to understand and the heroine is still weak. I don't have that energy, it's been four books sis. Change it up. Luckily for me, I'm not as invested as I was a few weeks ago so I'll just sit this one out.

“Six gypsy families all stood nigh.
Five gypsy families for one sacrifice.
Four gypsy families broken apart.
Three gypsy families turned cold of heart.
Two gypsy families couldn’t back down.
One gypsy family went underground
Forever is such a long time to bleed.
Worst are the gypsies brought to their knees
Sing, gypsies, sing of your lies
Never trust a gypsy with no gypsy pride!
Sing, gypsies, sing of your truths.
The apples have all rotted; the oranges just bruised"

This is one of the most thought-out paranormal series I've ever read
Every detail matters
Every info matters
Every character arc matters

BTW, if you were like me at book 1 thinking that Violet is simple, naive and very forgiving, ooooh how wrong we are

“You think you know Violet. Sweet, lovely, precious Violet. She’s shown you her bite, but her lack of bark confuses everyone,” Marta says in a taunting manner.

Violet : WHAT AM I? For the first time, I have an answer to that question. I’m a Simpleton. And I’m going to own that fucking name and make everyone feel bad for how ruthless and barbaric they’ve been. That’s if monsters have a buried conscience and all.

Better and better!

This series just keeps getting better, rolling through the mystery, magic and mayhem of ancient gypsies and forgotten monsters. Violet is an amazing FMC,finding her feet in a world the keeps trying to knock her down. The Alphas that surround her are slowly finding their own agendas and somehow putting her right in the middle of the mess - with a smile. It’s fantastic and addictive! Can’t wait for book 5!

Pros:
- Very well written
- laugh out loud funny
- Well edited
- Complex Plot and actions, rereading is almost required
- All the characters! Deep and very human, despite their total lack of humanity.

Cons:
- None.

I could have possibly rated this a 3, but I Really like these characters, no matter how frustrating I found this installment.

I would say I read more self published than non self published books nowadays and it must be so tricky for self published authors because they have to produce far more books per year than your established published authors of the genre. I really love the originality of the premise of this series and I really love all of the characters and the way they are presented and developed, but I think this series would probably be so much better if it didn't feel so rushed and even a bit sloppy at times.

You sort of have to accept in the first book that this is a series that confuses you more than it makes sense and gives you far more questions than answers, but usually the characters and their interactions make up for this for and I can overlook how all over the place it is. But this unfortunately wasn't the case here.

Violet's whole attitude to the guys both individually and as a group was frustrating and felt like so many steps backwards really, rather than moving forward. There are so many confused feelings on both Violet and the guy's side really that could be cleared up if they just talked to each other. How many times does Violet have to be told how much they all hate Idun and that they would have happily had her stay in the ground and don't want to be with her, and even Arion, the only one who still loved her, makes it clear he's seen the light here (the best development of this book imo).

The ending was really interesting and I will still pick up the next straight away and I still love these characters, but I just feel so frustrated after reading this!!!

3 "meh" stars

i love this series so far but this book was pretty underwhelming. i found myself skimming a good 30% and some of the parts got me a bit confused.

i do love me some Arion. he is deliciously evil. i like that he and Violet finally got together. i however feel that he still loves Idun and is only into Violet because he wants his 3 best friends back. this of-course is something Violet also knows but it seems she couldn't help herself:
description

despite this, i think Arion will be the one to show his love in a big way.

anyhow, i think everyone seems to think Violet is weak and that she is omega. something tells me she's an alpha. i can only hope that she takes Idun's men and her position as alpha. also, i hope that the romance steps up. the author promised that book 5 would have more romance. i can understand that a harem is a new concept to Violet so she seems only interested in the one she would have had sex with most recently, instead of all of them. Emit has been shoved into the friend-zone, i honestly dont know why. but i hope book 5 rectifies this so that there is a solid bond with all her guys, which goes beyond just sex.

i'm invested in the characters till the end.. TEAM ARION 4EVER

Finally, we get Cunning's amazing humour back in this one! Though I was surprised that Arion is the one to deliver it.

The story is still confusing as hell. The crucial information we should get from some conversation is usually presented by a POV of the person who does not understand that conversation, thus adding to our confusion even more. I don't mind getting cryptic information in a book that will make me guessing possible outcomes but this is just a mess.
Violet seems less and less like an MC and more like a pawn for everyone else's agenda.
Still eager to find out what happens next though.

What if you spent your entire life searching for something, only to finally find it and feel as though you’ve been robbed of something at the same time? That’s the feeling I’m stuck with right now.
Even though my resilience is one of the few points of pride I have, there’s only so much one person can take.

@99%

My moan of pleasure filled the box I called a home as I got my first sip of the white hot chocolate I'd just made. It was an extremely grey and windy day outside, the last days of February. Soon it will be spring and the days will open to warmer weather, until it degraded into us basically boiling alive and calling it "summer" that is. The hot chocolate would warm me nicely, although I was warm enough already in lue to being so agitated. I mean, this book, this fucking book.

After taking another sip my phone rang. I looked at the screen. Little Muffin Man was displayed along with a goofy face. My agitation turned up a notch.

Atticus Barfolomew Purrchill-McPuff, formerly known as The Little Muffin Man, is a Khan in the great empire of Maflandia and a relatively new friend. He will also moonlight as the new guardian of the archives in my group, whenever his schedule allows it that is. I wasn't answering it, as I was still mad at him.

The phone stopped ringing and I returned to reading my book, one hand threaded in my hair as this was the new thing to do with the books in this series: hair pulling.

My phone went off again and even though I had a suspicion of who it might be I checked the display just to be sure. Atticus again. I left it to ring and continued reading, sure in my knowledge that he won't call again for another few hours and I would be able to read in peace. It was a quirk of his, to not call more than twice in a row within a two hour interval.

So, when my phone rang again 10 minutes later, I answered without looking who it was. "Hello"

"You're reading."
said the voice on the other end. A low baritone that had my mind going hmmm every single time I heard it. Which is why I made a point to stay away from it and the person it belonged to. "Otherwise I would have gotten the usual creative greetings I so like."

"Yes, I'm reading. Yes, you're interrupting. What do you want?"
I said as I wondered why he was calling me.

"You know that's a dangerous question for you to ask me" he said pausing, at the same time I thought semi-furiously. Why, why, why. Ugh. Then it hit me! "But to answer your question I'm calling because of Att—"

Fucking Atticus, of course. So, I cut him off, saying "Tybalt".

"No. Atticus." I didn't need to be there to know he was exasperated, probably rolling his eyes as well. "Atticus called me a few minutes ago. I wasn't aware there was an issue with Tybalt as well."

Now it was my turn to be exasperated & roll my eyes. Goddess forbid he didn't know what his siblings were up to. "I have no issues with Tybalt."

"Just Atticus then" he interrupts, chuckling.

I sigh, "Yes, just Atticus. I was referring to Tybalt cause he's the one who should've been on the phone with me right now, not you". Tybalt Tumtum Purrchill-McPuff II, Khagan of Maflandia is the older brother of Atticus and the go-to man to bail Atticus out of most situations. If he can't do it then, and only then, Atticus turns to his two older half brothers. Which brings us to the man currently getting ready to turn my agitation up another notch since he was 'Advocate of the Day'.

"Tybalt is busy and if I didn't know any better I would say you didn't want to talk to me."

"You don't know any better. Look, I am too agitated to deal with you and your idiotic muffin of a brother right now."

"You wound me little feather. What did he do this time? Surely it isn't that bad, he adores you too much to do something monumental. We all do."

"I.."
I deflated a little and completely ignored the adoration part. Ezekiel Maximus Purrchill-Butterbeans. Emperor of Mewtonia, oldest brother and owner of the voice currently helping me to calm down a bit. "Zeke, it was bad so don't you dare defend him. I sat down to read this book while sick, knowing it will agitate me to no end, right? What did he go and do? He let Maya play in a box full of styrofoam and then set her loose close to the Asylum. Maya is a Puff! Do you have any idea what that did to her furr?! Bob lost it when he saw her like that. The alarms going off around the Harem Building didn't help. Shrimpy was on high alert which meant I had to be on high alert as well. Paranoia is fun like that. I also had to deal with Maya cause Bill was out before I could sit back down to finish this book. He can stew for a while".

He was trying so hard not to laugh. "Wow, ok. Yes, I guess he can stew. Theodore is going to love this! I will text him after". Theodore James Purrchill-Butterbeans, Duke of Copperpot (located in Mewtonia) and Baran of the Brotherhood Of The Midnight Sun being Zeke's younger brother. Assassin extraordinare, second oldest overall and always laughing at the situations Atticus manages to get himself into. "You're reading Bk#4 correct? I've been busy, will make time to read it soon though. Still, I have some time now. I want to hear about it".

"Uhm.. You've read the other three?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"They caught your interest. Enough for you to actually write. Of course I was going to read them. Call it my 'You Research'. So, how about it?"

I was stunned. I am almost never stunned. Wow. Ok. I shook myself out of it. If there's an opportunity for me to talk books, converse about most anything really, then imma grab on the best I could which isn't saying much if I'm being honest.

I took a deep breath. "Well, things didn't improve like I was hoping. While I understood what was happening, by the end there were new things thrown in leaving me annoyed.
The thing is there are things we still don't know, which is fine. What's not fine is that there are no hints given - by anyone - throughout but instead we got a short semi-sentence literally flying in out of FUCKING NOWHERE and dropped equally fast to go back to the idiotic behaviour of the heroes.
I mean aren't we supposed to know that there are things still hidden from us? Each character hinting there is something for us to know in the future? There was nothing of the sort here, from any of them. Then boom, surprise motherfucker! U G H!"

"Was there any sort of development with the characters at least?"

"With the men yes, with her fuck no. They develop slowly but steadily throughout. She doesn't develop, apparently you wake up and she just is."

"Huh. That is..going to annoy me as well. Anna?"

"Nope. She did add a new character though."

"Good or bad?"

"If you are referring to sides then you should have already figured out that there aren't any. If you mean if she was a good addition or not the answer is yes, she was a good addition in the overall scheme of things it seems. She was a giant thundercunt though. I don't like her, at all. Thundercunt I'm telling you."

"Do we get to finally see our villainous villain(s) yet? They should have made an appearance by now. More than an appearance now that I think about it."

"That is another negative. We got nada. I am not happy, not even close. I spent most of the book wanting to pull my hair out."

"Hmm..ok. Dare I ask.. Please be calm. Writing and editing?"

"Aaaargh!! NONE. NO FUCKING EDITING IN SIGHT! If the content made want to pull my hair out by the roots then the actual writing and editing, or lack thereof, accomplished it. I am now half bald."

"Shit."

"Yeah."

"I see. I had it already high up but I will speed it up even more now. Do you feel better?"

"Yes, actually, I do. Thanks."

"Nothing to thank me about love, it was all you. You made it, read through it and didn't actually set anything on fire or go bald."

"You don't know that."

"I do. Don't pout when I'm not there to enjoy it."

"Not pouting."

"Yes you are. Look, I have to go. War council I can't get out of. I will read it, call you to rant and when Bk#5 drops I'm going to come to you and we're going to read it together, ok? There are points in all of them I really want to discuss with you. In person. What was it you said the other day to Tybalt? Oh yes! Toodles love."

Aaand he hung up.

My phone beeped - a message. From Gaby: So many BRs! So many! And you agreed! Yay! F U N!!!

Wait.

What?!

Ohhh fuckity fuck fuck.

I have been had. Bamboozled. Twice.

FUCKING. ATTICUS.

Still on their quest for answers, they grow closer but still don’t reveal all their secrets to each other. Trust is hard to establish, and doubt keeps creeping in. The long-lost love interest also keeps lurking in everyone’s mind, making it increasingly hard to distinguish right from wrong.
It’s a sweet, interesting, and entertaining read - a little spice, some danger, and some very complex relationships 👍

So far, each book of the series has focused on developing one of our love interests

We got Emit the werewolf, Vance the Van Hasling monster killer, Damien the ?? succubus demon guy ??, and Arion the original vampire who are basically from the 4 origin monster families

This is Emit’s book.

And it was fucking hilarious.

description

The previous books, Emit was a little flat..and dare i say basic shifter that did not stick out among the thousands of others that ive read. But this book really worked to develop him and in turn the world and relatioship with heorine and general plot!

It was seriously adorable in the most psycho way when he used his shifter abilities to easedrop and know what his crush thought of him

“Yeah, so…back to Emit,” Tiara interrupts, causing Leiza to make a small wheezing sound like she simply wants Tiara to shut up. “Has he gotten any more…masculine to you?”
What…the…fucking…hell?
Wh-what?
Where did that come from?
I glance at the mirror to see if I suddenly stopped looking like the brute I am.
Nope.
Still the motherfucking king of masculinity.
Leiza is pale and casting a horrified look toward the kitchen where Violet is just underneath.”
“I’m falling out of contention because I’m not man enough for her?” I ask Leiza in completely dumbfounded disbelief.
I stand so abruptly that Leiza startles.
“If Violet wants to find me, I’ll be outside chopping wood,” I tell her, causing her to choke back a sound that suspiciously resembles a smothered laugh.”

COME ON, THAT IS GOOD

Strange connection of hilarious alphas, shakey worldbuilding, and hilarious situations that have you laughing and turning to page to see whats next … while literally having no clue what is actually happening

“You’re going to fly the plane?” I ask incredulously, eyes dipping to the set of wings clipped to him.
Arion comes out of the cockpit, just as Vance smirks.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is your future captain speaking,” Arion’s voice says smoothly over the intercom, causing Emit to roll his eyes and Damien to release a small groan. “It’s apparently a lot quicker to cross the Atlantic in this era, so the trip time will be considerably shorter than it was the last time I personally made it.”
“Get off the fucking coms,” I hear Vance say in the background.”

This is definitely the kinda series you read just to enjoy and dont try to think too hard about.

Because if you do, it just raises a shit lot of questions like what is a Neopry and Simpleton and how is Violet both? Whats the meaning of the beta omega list? Did we ever get the importance of the gypsy oranges like do they have a magical ability?

And the answer is… No❤️

“Starting today, I’m going to actually make a plan. It’s time to put the brake on and stop rolling downhill”

Yeah, finally. This is more a 3.5 stars if I’m being honest. Hmmm finally some movement with Arion/Ace and Violet. A LOT of push and pull. You’d think in the fourth book they’d get their act together and work on it. Sigh.

This series is so fun and different I can’t get enough. While I was still confused early on, as the men don’t always share their secrets with violet, things/storylines dragged out quite a bit but once the ending came it was like an explosion of things happening. Glad there was no cliffhanger this time around and with two books left things are coming to a head, I imagine Eden will be popping in soon and shits really gonna hit the fan, I can’t wait 😬🤓
(Once again I listened via audio so apologies if there are any discrepancies on how the characters names are spelled)

The cliffhanger from the end of book 3 gets resolved quickly then Violet and the guys get some interesting news regarding Idun - she's risen without them knowing! So they all decide to fly off to Ireland? to begin to investigate. Violet learns a little more about the Neopry family and is slightly irritated that everyone is focused on finding Idun and not freeing the Simpletons who are still trapped underground. She also spends some alone time with Arion and wakes up to a big surprise ()!

While book 3 served to give us a bunch of background information regarding the characters and the predicament they find themselves in, this book 4 served more to further the big picture plot. It looks like things are gearing up for a big showdown with Idun (the ex of the guys), but we aren't quite there yet. My guess is that it will be a book or two before we have any resolution there. I am looking forward to getting the next installment and hope it is sooner rather than later. Smut factor on this one is only a 2.5 out of 5 - they were busy running around for a lot of the book.

I feel bad for saying this, but I didn't like this as much as the others. I don't know, I'm tired of the Idun thing. I want them together.

She mutters something as she drops to her back and puts her hand over her forehead.
"What are you doing?" I ask in confusion.
She cracks one eye open and glares at me with it before grinding out, "I'm fainting."
Her eye snaps shut again, and by some miracle, I manage to keep a straight face, since this is a really serious moment.
The two long banners at the other end snap, likely because of Shera doing her part to help me be the fool who throws herself at the monster's feet. All eyes jerk in that direction, as I stand and fling myself over the balcony.
The strings come to life, flying out of my bra and swinging me through the crowd like a wanna-be, poor man's spider-girl in Ghostbuster underwear.
Wrecking Ball pops into my head, and I can almost imagine Anna singing it to me in this moment.
I thought the juvenile, unsexy undies would help keep things from escalating on the date I didn't want to to take with the guy I can't refuse, whose monster I'm about to feed. Now, however, I'm totally regretting the underwear choice.

~

"You're treating me like I'm Idun, Arion. You started this entire thing by manipulating me and working around me, telling me the truth after the fact," I say, whispering again.
"I already bloody admitted you started as a replacement. Give me time to adjust. I fall the hardest. Already told you this too, love. It's too late for you, I'm afraid." He leans forward abruptly, gently nipping my earlobe. "And I haven't wanted anything as much as I want you in far too fucking long. I'll have you, Violet. At some point, you're the kind of sweet girl who will see it cruel to continue to make me chase."
A shaky breath snakes out of me when he places a single, soft kiss on the spot of my throat he's been fascinated with - the spot where he bit me and didn't leave a lasting mark.
"The next time will be much better when that time comes. My patience only struggles because of how sweet it was to taste a Portocale that doesn't burn the tongue. But it's not the Portocale in you that lingers in a man, driving the most patient of the four to the brink so easily," he says in that soft, hypnotic tone once more.
"No," he goes on, kissing my neck again. "It's a taste like no other - one powerful taste at first, but a simmering second one, so subtle and unique. It grows increasingly more addictive each day that passes without it, the craving almost unbearable. If another vampire ever tastes your blood, I'll have to kill them to keep them away."
My heart sinks a little. "So now the reason you want me is because of my blood?" I ask in an even tone, staring at what bit of his cheek that I can see.
I feel his grin against my throat. "A very welcome fringe benefit, Violet. An effective side effect, but not the catalyst." He twirls a strand of my hair around his finger, solid black eyes meeting mine.
A chill immediately slithers up my spine, and it's not me who is knocking down the temperature this time. I don't notice it as much when I apparently do it.
I notice it very much right now.
As goosebumps pebble on my skin, my eyes flick to the barely-there points of his fangs that are teasing me with a glimpse.
"I'm saying you tempt the monster on the surface, and the one underneath," he goes on.
I don't know what to do or say. Every reaction I have leads to him reading way too much into it, and I don't usually have to overthink my reactions, damn it.
He's like a loaded shotgun with a sensitive trigger. I'm not good with those. At all. They always leave a mess for me to clean up.
"Just tell me how to change it, Violet. Tell me what I can do. Don't continue to write me off so easily, when we both know you want me as much as I want you," he goes on, gently dragging his lips up my neck. "Give me a direction.

I really love this series, but I didn't love this book nearly as much as the first three. I rounded up with my rating, I mean it's good don't get me wrong, but it's just not…as good. There's plenty of scenes and lines that made me laugh, Violet's relationships with her monsters are progressing, and quite a few questions that have been lingering from the beginning are answered. Still, I'm not sure why, but I just didn't love it. I honestly just can't pin down why. Either way, I love the series and I just downloaded book five so I'll be moving on to it fairly soon. Anyway here are some of my favorite scenes, but fair warning…there's definitely spoilers, just no way around it.

He pauses at the counter, releasing my hand as he goes to a wall and pushes on it to reveal a secret opening.
It's dark, but a glow of the light travels up the stone steps just enough to make it…super creepy.
I give Vance an incredulous look when he gestures for me to follow.
"Idun pitted us against each other. She liked us fighting, and she loved chasing us when we tried to break away. It isn't until we stayed done that she started getting desperate. You'd just walk away, Violet. Your nature is to cut and run. You'd never be desperate to pull us back in. You're not a replacement," he says very firmly, giving the illusion of a patient man. "Come on there's something I want to show you."
"Says the Van Helsing to the stupid Frankenstein's monster, as she stares down the creepy stairs to the basement that looks to dead-end at a stone wall with fucking chains on it," I deadpan. "I'll pass."
His lips do that humored twitching thing again.
"Violet, please tell me that's just a really terrible joke," he says in that charming, playful way of his that he so rarely uses.
"I know you well enough for sex. I don't know you well enough to follow you into a basket-lowering well where you feed me lotion a few times a day,"I state warily, trying to get a better look at what's beyond that blocking stone wall at the end.
"Those sorts of areas don't have electricity wired to them," he assures me.
"The sort of areas where you take monsters to chain them to walls? Because I remember chains in the bedroom that Damien broke…"
His look grows impatient at last, and before I can argue any farther, he moves too fast for me to stop him. I'm unceremoniously thrown over his shoulder, and his grabby hand slides up the shirt I'm wearing, landing firmly on my bare ass cheek there.
I sigh and ride his shoulder down the stairs, since I can't get free without being a monster, and that would be dramatic overkill.
At least until I find out what's in the-
Vance quickly puts me down on my feet, and he moves behind me, as I turn to take in the large, vast, very empty basement that looks more like a deserted warehouse in sheer size.
"Why are you showing me an empty basement?" I decide to ask as his arms come around my waist from behind, and he nudges my head to the side to start kissing his way down my neck.
"Subtlety seems to get lost amongst the more overpowering personalities I'm surrounded with, but when I try too hard, I simply look pathetic and desperate," he tells me.
Great. He's seriously going to try to lock me down here and keep me.
"However, if you have this spot to pot all the apple trees you want, then I won't have to try too hard to get you here," he goes on, confusing me for just a second as my shirt starts to get pushed up on my hips.
It's then I realize what he said this morning about finally putting all the furniture where it goes to get it out of this basement. Because apparently he's giving it to me to grow my apple trees.
No one ever wants me to grow the apples. Everyone likes the oranges.

"They want her to hurry up and fuck Arion so it'll break the bond between him and Idun."
I'm the one to groan, and Violet nods like she agrees with my sentiment.
"How did you know?" Violet asks as she looks up.
"I got bored and watched Arion's surveillance of Vance's house when we couldn't reach Emit right away," Damien says like it's no big deal he continues to be a creep. "There really is an app for everything these days."
"This is your future captain speaking," Arion says over the speaker once more. "I think the ghosts might be worth listening to after all. Let's discuss that some more."
Violet's eyes widen marginally.
"He can hear us?" she hisses.
"Of course I can, love," the speaker says again.
"Unbelievable," Violet mutters, pinching the bridge of her nose, as a peculiar blush rises up her neck and spreads to her cheek. "How much farther?"
"We're not too far out," Vance answers, a smile in his voice. "Want to visit your captain before descent?"
I hate Vance as well when Violet grins and undoes her seatbelt for the first time, trusting him far more than she does any of us.
Even Damien narrows his eyes as she makes her way toward the front, sliding her hand across any surface close enough, just in case she needs to catch her balance.
I lean out to the side, watching as she opens the door, and Vance reaches back a hand for her.
"I really should have stayed more current. I could have been a pilot," Damien grumbles.
I glimpse Violet sliding down to Vance's lap, stars in her bloody eyes, as she loops her arms behind his neck.
"He's not even flying right now. It's on autopilot or some shit," I point out.
Vance 'scratches' the back of his head with his bird finger, and that's the last I see before the cockpit door slips shut.
"When you walk into a room where I'm sitting, I'd like to be straddled like that," I can hear Arion saying. "How do I get from here to there?"
"Why are you posing shirtless and chopping wood?" Damien asks me, as I crack my knuckles.
Fortunately, his register is below that of a whisper.
"Because this girl makes us all act like fucking idiots on break from the clown rings," I state absently, hearing a small, subtle giggle over the rumble of distant thunder. "The man presses his trousers to be pristine, before hanging them up in a color coordinated pattern. How is he more masculine than I am?" I ask, trying my damnedest to ignore the sounds up front, as I tune out the small bit of praise Violet is singing for our fearless, stupid pilot.
Damien snorts, as a closer rumble of thunder hits.
"Your masculinity has been called into question? That's the newest blockade?" he asks like he's hoping he's figured this out and found this hellish answer.
Mercifully, he keeps his tone as low as mine so the other two assholes don't overhear this conversation.
"I've been handling her too gently, apparently, and there's been some miscommunication of intentions, it seems," I correct, glaring at him.
He chokes back a laugh…barely.

~

"Violet's not getting out of our sight," Arion adds.
There's a moment of just staring…like everyone is trying to silently argue.
"No one naked in my car," Mom states when I just stand in my spot, waiting on them to hurry through the push and pull.
You really can tell how thick the air is when too many alphas are in the room at one time, but weirdly it never feels this way when it's just the four of them. Unless punches are thrown. Then it gets a little heavier than normal.
Arion pulls on his clothes, and threads whir in the air as I quickly fashion Emit a lopsided toga that lands on his body. Everyone's gaze swings to him like it's weird for him and normal for me to be in a toga.
Awesome.
Damien muffles a sound, Emit arches an eyebrow at me, and Arion remains rigid, staying close to me but never touching me.
All of us squeezing into a car together while most of them hate each other…should be fun.
The storm finally stops before we board the elevator, and it's one of those super awkward elevator moments where no one is looking at anyone or saying anything, and everyone is trying to stay in-the-moment serious.
We stop on the floor just under us, after the longest thirty-five seconds ever.
The doors open, and two men glance around at Emit and I in our matching togas, even though his is the fitted sheet and riding up in some funny places.
He looks like a caveman who accidentally bleached and shrank his wardrobe.
I palm my face, embarrassed for him.
The next couple of floors are super awkward with the addition of the two new, notably uncomfortable men.
Worst seventy-nine seconds ever. Math doesn't add up? Yeah. I'm upset about those extra nine seconds as well.
Poor Emit has to duck out of the unusually small elevator, and the bottom of his ass cheek plays peek-a-boo on one side.
Damien finally snorts, and even Mom struggles to keep a straight face. That really pisses her off.
"You're seeing him on an off day," I tell the two guys, who stare at my red boots for a second.

~

Now that things are super awkward, I walk to the car, and hop in the backseat.
"Front seat, Violet," Mom immediately fires back.
But I point at the sunroof. "Emit's not going to fit any other way."
"This is the absolute worst week of my entire bloody existence," Emit seems to say in a decisive tone, staring at the car like it's the most offensive thing ever.
Mom even hesitates, and makes another frustrated sound as she presses a button on the fob to start the car.
We all need sensitivity training, because we watch without an ounce of shame, as he truly struggles to put himself in what is possibly one of the smallest cars ever. The other three would struggle some too.
When Emit's head pops through the open sunroof, Vance scrubs a hand over his face.
"This is why you have rebellions," Arion says with a restrained smile. "You can't be taken seriously."
Emit cuts his eyes to Arion, but how…can he be taken seriously right now?
Vance just blinks a few times. "I'll meet you there," he decides, eyes flicking to mine briefly.
"I'll take the clown car with the wolf, the livid Portocale, and the reason we're all even here right now," Damien chirps, eyes on mine as his lips tug up in an amused grin.
Mom swings an accusatory glance my way.
"Unbelievable," is all she mutters.

I am so invested in this series, and the story really is pulling me in. However, I find it to be a little messy. I am still all for it, though. 😂

I really like how each alpha gets to actually form a relation to Violet, and the story actually has a plot. It’s so refreshing when most RH I have read focus so much on the sex-part.
Which is hot, don’t get me wrong, but I do enjoy a little mystery and magic. That’s just how I roll😂

Violet is hellbent on raising the Simpletons from their prison and when she wants to do something she is so bloody stubborn. 🤩

I'm still in with the story and characters. I honestly am starting to think the confusion is only because every explanation gets talked in circles, kind of like the loops that thwart Van Helsing.
However, my biggest complaint is the rushed through editing. I'm all for rapid release--if the author can pull it off and still put out a quality book. If you can't then please take the time needed to make the quality better. I edit all day, when I actually have time to read for pleasure I don't want to feel like I'm at work.

A Maze.

I feel like I am in a maze reading this book. I’m confused and lost and end up in places that make me even more co fused and lost. The story is progressing, albeit in a circuitous way; I suppose the adventure is part of the charm. But I can’t help but feel getting from point A to point B could have been less painful.
