The novellas Red and Reddest complement each other perfectly. In each, an acutely disturbed and abused human being attempts to take revenge for all of the wrongs that were done to them from childhood through adulthood. Their psychopathic methods of destruction will make your toes curl. These books are literally dripping with red substance and tricky turns of plot. D.J. Doyle has written a duo of explosive and psychologically disturbing stories that will be very hard to forget. I look forward to reading much more of her work.

This is the first book I've read by this author and it definitely won't be the last.

The book is extreme horror, yes the author warns you about the two tales are not for the faint of heart with a serial killer on the loose.

But I totally wasn't prepared for the sick brutality of horror which creeped under my skin and stuck. Yes I had to pause and take a breather but then I thought maybe I didn't have the stomach to finish the book. But I did and was glad I did because its excellently written.

It certainly won't be the last book I'll read by the author.

Hell hath no fury...

As it’s women in horror month, I thought I’d look for some female extreme horror writers to review. Doyle’s name came top of the list and I have to admit, these two short novellas are every bit as sick and twisted as anything written by Matt Shaw - who is kind of my benchmark for all things extreme!
Nasty, gory, and as visceral as you might expect, both these shorts are nasty, but they’re also a lot of fun to read.
