Dark Legacy #1

Broken Wings

Rate this book
They rule my new town, my school, and with more money than God, there’s very little out of their reach.

Four gorgeous, perfect, scary boys. There used to be five, but one of them died, leaving a fifth position that I now fill.

I didn't ask for this. I didn't want to be part of this billionaire-boys-club. But no one cares about what I want.

Sebastian Beckett is the worst of them. Their leader. He draws me in, and strips me of every defense I have. He calls me Butterfly, but it's not a pet name, it's a threat. Beck wants nothing more than to break my wings, pin me to a board and watch me writhe.

He wants to see me broken. Body, heart and soul.

And what these elite want, they get.

Only they've never met Riley Jameson.

Let the battle begin.
**This dark romance features four sexy, dangerous boys but is NOT a reverse harem.**

WARNING: I systematically detail everything I disliked about the book. Don't read if you're a diehard fan of this thing. Read if you want to know why you should save yourself the money and time.

I know the authors' dedication at the front of this book was specifically to tropes, but damn. This book was so cliched that I've read essentially the same story 58373 times before. Tropes are tropes for a reason - we like to read them, and I don't exclude myself from that 'we' - but you need to bring something new to the table with them to avoid mediocrity and obscurity.

Nothing new was brought to the table in Broken Wings.

I only got 20% of the way through, but here's a list of all the plot holes, clichés, and general irritants I found within that 20%.

❌ Genuinely incredible levels of slut-shaming. Not a single girl was allowed to walk past the heroine, Riley, without Riley making insanely bitchy comments. The thing is, I could overlook that if it weren't for the HYPOCRISY: Riley wears jumpers so small that people can see her bra, but feels free to judge other girls on the visibility of their underwear.

❌ The only other girl exempt from the slut-shaming is the requisite best friend Riley makes immediately. Eddy is a stock figure, there to give Riley 'insider info', and the two form a blood-strong connection instantly for no apparent reason. Eddy is of course also related to the four boys who 'own the school' and has her own crush on one of them.

❌ Speaking of the school, I'm supposed to believe that HIGH HEELS ARE A COMPULSORY PART OF THE UNIFORM. Bitch, please. I know Americans seem to find school uniforms a weird concept, but there is absolutely no way a secondary school could get away with forcing its students to wear heels BECAUSE THE MALE STUDENTS WANT IT.

❌ This leads us to another pet peeve of mine: boys who run the school. Now, admittedly, this could be a real thing in American schools. But in Britain, even members of the royal family are essentially treated as normal (anecdotal evidence, I know, but a friend of mine went to school with one of our princesses. The princess in question was not treated as a goddess by the other students, and certainly not by the staff). I will always, always be sceptical about claims that a group of teenaged boys have unlimited power over everybody.

❌ Speaking of these teenaged boys, the hero (Beck) is constantly described as 'perfect' and 'flawless.' Twilight, much? He can be called handsome without being perfect, and it would give the story a much needed touch of realism. You could say that you aren't reading the story for the realism, and fair enough: the plot isn't supposed to be realistic. But you can't expect readers to suspend their disbelief for EVERYTHING. Also, these boys are obviously manwhores.

❌ Last point on the school thing: I'm also supposed to accept that the female students HAVE to wear short skirts, mandated by the uniform code, because the male students want it. Yeah, no.

❌ The authors engineer a meeting between Riley and Beck by having her walk into his chest in a school corridor. It is - OF COURSE - described as being like 'walking into a brick wall.' That simile is so old it probably crops up in cave paintings. Also, what's with all these heroines walking into the chests of people who happen to be the hero? Is there a sudden epidemic of blindness in the YA/NA world? It's incredibly amateurish on the authors' part to have them meet like that, as Wattpad-ish as having them coincidentally paired up for a class project. (Which, for all I know, happens too).

❌ So, Riley - who by the way says she grew up dirt-poor and bought her clothes from Goodwill - regularly drives million-pound cars like Bugattis and Aston Martins. She knows everything about luxury cars, she knows what the Forbes rich list is, she behaves like a normal teenager with a normal amount of general knowledge and obvious access to the internet, but I'm supposed to believe she doesn't know what Louboutins are? Despite stating she loves heels? Give me a break.

Reading this book was like reading Cruel, or The Boys of Brayshaw High. It was at least way better written technically than the latter, but a bit more hackneyed than the former. I'm not even going to bother comparing it to Paper Princess, Elite Kings Club or Fallen Crest, because those put their own spin on the tropes and I actually ended up liking them. Or at least being able to remember them, and I don't regret reading them.

This book was just so bland it was boring. Honestly, I expected more from Tate James and Jaymin Eve, who are both good authors in their own right.

'BROKEN WINGS' is the first full length new adult book in Jaymin Eve's & Tate James 'Dark Legacy' series.

MY REVIEW AND OTHERS: can also be found on my blog:
➽ KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

Image and video hosting by TinyPic A rags to riches kind of story.

This book right here exploded on facebook, it had been jumping up on my newsfeed all over the show. Then it came with a stamp of recommendation and one look at the reviews and I was sold.

This centered around Riley, a strong resilient character, who literally within a blink of an eye just shy of turning eighteen loses her family, leaving her alone in the world, other than a best friend Dante whom she adored, she had no family who she could call her own.

BUT as a baby Riley was given up for adoption, which she knew about from a very early age...NOW though her birth mother has since come forward since the death of her parents and she's laying claim to her...All is not as it seems here. And this is where things get interesting.

Catherine Deboise is up to something and you're her pawn. We intend to see you wiped from the board before she can make her move.

Now the guys...Holy shit...The guys... These four entitled guys are like no other characters I have ever come across, they are like claude Van Dam, I shit you not!! They are fighting machines that have learned from a very young age how to take care of themselves, even if that means killing. Yep you read it here!!

Bec aka Sebastian, Jasper, Evan and Dylan.. Sebastian Roman Beckett. Self confessed king of Ducis Academy. Gorgeous or not, I'd still rather punch him in the face than kiss him.

Dylan from the start might have looked the scariest, but he was the most caring. He was the one that held the others together. Bec was their leader, their fury, their fear. But Dylan was their heart. Loyal and lethal. A brotherhood.

I one clicked this one in the hopes that it was going to be centered around the rich elite bullying snobs but god this book was so much more than that. It COMPLETELY took me by surprise.
These guys weren't that bad at all, though the ending did have me questioning everything about them..Yes it does end in one bugga of a cliffy with the second book dangling way out of reach. I was hooked as soon as I started this, completely unique which is hard when it comes to this genre because it's been done so many times before BUT not by these two, these two went above and beyond with bringing us something fresh, something different, something that got it's hooks into me early on in the book and didn't let go.

This book had layers upon layers nothing was as it seemed.

This ticked all my boxes, the angst, the crazy hot guys, tough heroine, the sexy times, the terror filled times. So think 'The fast and the furious' with the illegal street racing, because yes this book even threw that into the mix, and I loved it..

Another so called “strong” heroine who thinks she’s do tough but in fact is so led by her “betraying body” around the annoying male lead. She also suddenly starts referring to the annoying H and his friends as “her boys” and acting all smug because she’s now one of them. Another 17 year old girl written who is always horny around the guy and she was always “wet”. Not going to read the next one she was too hormonally led and weak.

This really hit the spot for me last night. I thought I knew what this book was going to be like, but I was wrong. There were a few original spins thrown in that were a bit far fetched, but they made the story a hell of a lot more interesting. I can't wait for book 2! 😍

I saw Tate James ✅ I saw Jaymin Eve ✅ I saw the words ‘NOT a RH harem’. I’m sorry what. These are the authors I rely on to give me good RH series and now the world doesn’t make sense 😅 Anyway, I gave this MF a go and I'm so glad I did.

(This decision was mostly influenced by the fact that the cover reminded me of an old video game cover.)

This book included the classic rich boy x poor girl plot, but with a twist. The FMC was from a working-class family and suddenly entered into this world where status was everything. For her, that status didn’t translate into respect. Regardless, she didn't take anyone's sh*t (mostly because she had no more f*cks left to give).

It was a typical bully academy romance, but the characters didn't fully commit to the hatred (which I prefer). However, this still meant that the MMC was possessive, jealous and borderline psychotic. I mean this description as a total compliment. I don't want the man to just fall in love with her, I need some loathing first. I mean he was also caring and protective, but the other descriptions I used were more interesting.

The side characters also did their part. I mean Dylan was always sympathetic to the FMC, despite his friends not agreeing. Edie was also a favourite, but she was harder to accept when her loyalty kept faltering. She had some pretty excuses though.

I keep reading bullying romances because I'm a bit fan of the ‘switch’. The moment the MMC realises he is being a massive kn*b and his personality starts to change. In this book, those scenes were honestly adorable, mostly because they were all about trauma bonding and justified murder. It was unexpected ✨

My only pet peeve was the scene where he explained that he didn't push away another woman because he was trying to distance himself from his feelings for her. Come on now 🥱 Let's not use that overdone excuse🙄

Would I have l loved it even more much more if it was a reverse harem? ... Yes, but I say that about most books.

Looking forward to book 2 ♥️

***4,5 "Butterfly!!! stars***

"It's smart to always remember, Butterfly... money corrupts everything."

OMG!!! This story was soooo good!!! I loved it and i can not wait for the rest of the books!!!
The truth is that i had no idea about this book until i stepped upon it on instagram and i thought so... Why not??? It sounds like something that i would read and thank God that i got impulsive and dove in it!!!! It was AWESOME!!!! Even though unrealistic in some parts!!! But still... AWESOME!!!
If you have read Boys of Brayshaw High, then you're gonna enjoyed this book too!!!

"It was the five of us against the world."

Riley Jameson just lost her parents and her life is turning immediately upside down when her biological parents are claiming her...
And from that moment, a shit storm is coming on her way in the form of a bitch mother, a powerful organization and four cocky, rich, gorgeous assholes that didn't leave her in peace!!!
And the worst of them all is their leader, Sebastian Beckett!!!

"It was all about perspective. I really couldn't give a fuck what a bunch of rich kids thought about me. What did I have to lose now?"

"Fucking hell, why are the hot ones always psychopaths?"

Well, Riley is founding herself in difficult and scary positions all the time from the moment that she stepped in this area!!! The boys are having their eyes upon her all the time and they are determined to break her...
But Riley is a tough kid and she is giving hell back and after a while, she is becoming a part of them, even if she didn't want to had anything to do with them...
Or did she???

"We're going to enjoy breaking you, princess.. All that pretty skin. Those bright blue eyes. When we're done with you, there won't be a piece of you untouched."

No, don't get confused!!! It's not a reverse harem story this one!!!
Yep, Riley will get attached to all of them... Dylan, Evan, Jasper... But her heart is being claimed by the worst of them all... Beck!!!
Riley is drown to him since day one... He is getting under her skin all the time, but the things that are standing between them are too many... Money and power are the worst of them all and an Elite that had planned their fate for far too long ago...

"I needed that lesson. To learn to protect myself, because if there was one thing I knew about the heirs of Delta, they now had the power to really hurt me. I couldn't let that happen. I had such little left in my life, if I lost one more thing...
I wasn't sure I'd survive."

So, what will happen in here after all???
Will Riley fit in with the rest of the crew??? And for how long before shits will hit the fan???
Will Beck make her a priority or Delta will be always his priority???
And what the hell is really happening in there???
Too many secrets, lies and betrayals are lying in the air and i need some freakin' answers ASAP!!!!
What will happen after that awfully ending in here??

"Our world... it's filled with secrets...
And we all have to play the game."

I loved Riley soooo much!!!
She was a girl with personality and a badass attitude!!! She loved racing... It was a part of her and she was actually a butterfly... Free in her spirit... And she couldn't be caged!!!
I know that she is destined to greatness and i know that she will find her way after all...
And her love and caring for the guys was so beautiful!!! Of course, her relationship with Sebastian was different and very intense!!! But there is actually a hope for these two???

"Fuck you, Sebastian Beckett... I wouldn't touch you with a ten foot pole. No pretty exterior is worth the rotten interior. Call me crazy but I have standards."
"You really think so, Butterfly? You want to tell me you don't feel this magnetic pull between us? That sexual tension that just keeps fucking building every time we're near? That's all in my head, is it?"

"I just lost my mind whenever he was close by, and no matter how much of an asshole he was... how much he scared a part of me... a larger part was addicted to the rush in my blood when he was near."

I loved Sebastian as well!!!
He was tempered, cocky, wild, gorgeous and soooo skilled....
I think that Sebastian has a very heavy load upon his shoulders and that's the reason that he can't be as open as he wants with Riley...
I also believe that he has real feelings for her, but Delta will always standing in their way... Unless, they will do something for that!!!

"What are you doing?"
"I don't fucking know! You're just everywhere. In my fucking head. I can't... I need to stop. This is not a world that works with..."
He waved a hand between us.
"Then stay away from me, Beck."
"That's the thing, I've tried..."
I barely heard those worlds and then he spun on his hell and was back in his car."

"I keep pushing you away, hoping you'd hate me. That you'd stay away, because being near me is a death sentence... But you're a part of this, whether we like it or not. So, maybe instead of pushing you away, I should hold you tighter."

As for the rest of the guys??? God, i loved them all!!!
Dylan was always sooo serious and deadly... But he had a heart of gold...
Jasper was sooo funny and silly.... He was the most approachable of them all..
As for Evan??? I disliked him for the "spare" comment, but he had proven himself...
The truth is that i would love to read their stories too!!! I'm sure that they could be really interesting...

"Beck was their leader, their fury, their fear. But Dylan was their heart. Loyal. Lethal. And... lonely.
"You think Beck could hurt me?"
"There are many different ways to hurt someone. And some are harder to recover from."

"We have everything in the world that money can buy... But this..." He gestured to the four of us. "This is what money can't touch. This is the only important thing we have."

Also in here, i liked very much Dante and Eddy...
I think that Dante is a little bit shaddy, but still... I liked him very much and i'm waited to find more about his role in all of that, because i"m sure that there are more to him!!!
Of course, i hated Riley's biological mother and i don't trust her a bit!!!
Also the guys's fathers sucked!!!!
I also need some fuckin' answers about Oscar's death!!! I'm positive that Riley's appearance in Delta wasn't sooo accidentally after all!!!!
Well... I need the next book as you can realize... Especially aftert that damn cliffy!!!

"No one was my friend here. I'd given my trust to the heirs, and they had betrayed me. I'd given my heart to Beck, and he had smashed it into a million fucking pieces..."

Licking my lips and twisting my plaid skirt in my fingers, I risked a quick glance at Beck and found an arrogant smirk on his face that equally made me want to throat punch him and rip his clothes off. It was in that moment that I first considered therapy.

This book was like a love child of Paper Princess and Bully and I was so here for it. Angst, drama, secrets and lies, and a secret society. Sign me up!

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*The Timeline Ruined It For Me*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

Look, I could've really, truly liked this book a lot. It has a good female character that wasn't too stubborn that I felt like I had to slap her, it had a great commanding, dominant alpha male and awesome friends of said alpha male. So what went wrong? The fucking timeline. It fucked with everything. Either I missed something between the lines or it was supposed to be this way, but I felt like the timeline was between a week to two weeks, maybe half a week add to that. But Riley was thinking and talking about the boys liked she's known them months. Acting like they are now her almost everything. Like she knows them better than someone who's been around them since they were kids, just because she spent some days with them. It just didn't fit right with me. It didn't feel right.

Had the timeline been solid, and Riley - plus us readers - had gotten a chance to really know the boys over time and not just a couple of days slash few small weeks. Maybe I missed something or not, but the timeline made me feel like I was on the outside looking in. Maybe the timeline was longer than just those short days/weeks, but I sure as hell didn't see nor feel it if that's the case. That being said, the book itself had huge potential. I liked it, I liked Beck; he was hot as fuck. But yeah, her feeling so close to the guys in such a short time didn't work for me. I needed more build-up. Overall, I liked it, I liked the potential, and if you know me, you know I LOVE a bad boy man, alpha male.

Characters:
Riley ‘Riles’ ‘Butterfly’ ‘Spare’ Jameson (17), orphan as her parents died in a car accident.
Sebastian ‘Beck’ Roman Becket (20), the leader of the billionaire-boys-club. A Delta’s successor -the inheritors of a fortune (Militant Delta Finances) that out masses the rest of the world’s combined. They control so much more than you can even imagine … and they have enemies. Delta controls sixty-five percent of the money in the world.
Dante, Riley's best friend. A gang member.
→ Mrs. Catherine ‘Debitch’ Deboise, Riley's birth-mother. Deboise was a huge, worldwide bank, originating in Europe. Catherine is the daughter of one of Huntley’s CEOs, Delta's biggest enemy.
Stewart ‘Stew’, the head of staff here at Deboise Estate
Edith ‘Eddy’ Langham, of Langham Finance
Jasper Eugene Langham, Eddy's brother. A Delta’s successor.
Evan Lincoln Rothwell, his family owns half of Europe, and they fund most of the big businesses in the world. A Delta’s successor.
Dylan Grant, his family is also involved in finance and banking. A Delta’s successor.
Oscar Deboise (almost 21), was Riley's brother. He was killed a month ago. Oscar was the planned successor for the Deboise fortune. A Delta’s successor.
Brittley ‘Britt’, she’s Beck's group's pass around girl when they have nothing better to do. She’s been trying to claim one of the guys for years, but they just use her like the w**** she is.
Richard Deboise, Riley's birth-father.
Jimmy, runs car races.
→ Mr. Beckett, Beck’s father.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Upper YA/NA) Dark Contemporary Romance.
Series: - Series, Book One.
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Sebastian ‘Beck’ Roman Becket.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Yes.
Would I recommend this book/series? - For Beck, yes. But for the series, unsure.
Will I read this again in the future? - Don't think so.
Rating - 3.5 (weak)/3 stars.

HOLY BOOK HANGOVER!!

Broken wings was amazing! A bully romance with four hot Elite guys and a kick ass heroine...

Lies, deceit, broken trust, passion and a shit tonne of secrets.

The writing was amazing and I loved how action packed and fast paced the book was. It had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out the lies and the secrets, but I couldn’t and it blew my mind.

Sebastian Roman motherfucking Beckett was just everything. Cold calculating, ruthless, sweet and gentle all rolled in to one. He is the king and I want to be his queen.
Riley’s character was amazing. A kick ass, take no shit, middle finger to anyone who questions her girl. Her inner dialogue was hysterical and had me LOL constantly.

That ending.... I am not ok and I kind of need book 2 NOW!!

Enter the dark world of the Heirs of Delta and their queen... you won’t regret it!

I’ve never read a book by these authors before. This was a first for me and I couldn’t put it down. It had all the NA feels to it, but it was somewhat darker. If you enjoyed the Amo Jones Elite Series. The Royals, Brayshaw High, and Fallen Crest etc - then this is a good book for you.

I’m gutted it finished because there are so many unanswered questions, but book two is due soon. This series started off with a bang and it’s definitely one to watch out for.

WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. F***!?!?
Okay...
So...
This book probably has the most infuriating cliffhanger in cliffhanger history. So, just be prepared for that.

Riley is such an amazing character. I absolutely love her and want to be her when I grow up.
Dante is just...yes.
Now the guys...

I dont even know what to say about them.
Beck can go suck a d**k at this point, tbh.
Dylan can do no wrong. (Yeah, I get that that's kind of a double standard but idfc. Fight me.)
I'm still kind of on the fence with Evan and Jasper right now. We'll see.

I just...Tate and Jaymin pretty much nailed this.
The two of them writing together is pretty much a wet dream for a reader like me.

So, yeah. Read this book. It's awesome and all that jazz.

It was like driving by a car wreck; it was horrible, but I couldn't turn away. So many things about this were ridiculous such as the rules at the school and way the Delta company worked. The boys were so amazing that they lived, according to them, through more than one plane crash because they were trained in survival. Yeah right. These kids ranged in age from 17 to 20, but they were all in high school. It's beyond me as to why a 20 year old who is set to take control of a portion of a large business in a few months was still in high school. His family was insanely rich. They would have bought his way out of high school if he had been too dumb to graduate, which he wasn't. Despite all of them being young, the boys had extreme survival skills and their medical capabilities rivaled those of doctors. They were also businessmen and highly trained killers. You know, just the usual things rich teens are.

The situation with Riley didn't make a lot of sense either. Why would she have been given away especially when heirs were important? She went from being hated by the guys to loved overnight and vice versa. At first she hated her situation. As she learned more about the shitty situation she was being thrown into, she didn't care about the danger because the guys were her friends. They were virtually strangers! Riley should have died because she did too many stupid things. She may not have had the various skills the guys did, but at 17, she was a legendary underground car racer. Once again, super realistic.

It ended on a huge cliffhanger. I hadn't known exactly what would happen but

Will I sound a little crazy if I say this book would have been more believable if the main characters were some sort of supernaturals? Alpha werewolves, or shifters, or even fae or something ruthless?
In any case, I read the whole story and overall it was a good read.

Well this is the second book I have been torn about how to rate it. Probably a 3.75 would be more accurate rating.

First, this was a very slow start for me. I was about 40% in before it started pulling me in. One may ask "Why did you stick with it?" .... there was so much obvious potential which in the end paid off. The world build was a bit lengthy and complicated compared to a lot of reads. One one hand, it was a push to read and contain it all. On the other, once it was said and done I see where it was necessary.

Second, if you have ever read my reviews I am not a fan of a weak FMC. Riley is a bit weaker than what I prefer. She gets in a lot of bad situations and makes a lot of not so smart decisions. Don't let that put you off because due to her backstory and the circumstances she was forced into her weaknesses are realistic.

Third, womanizing asshole MCs don't float my boat. There is something about using a woman and then acting as if she is beneath you that is a huge turn off for me. Even if these actions are toward characters who are not permanent in the series. As you read there is a situation, granted caused my Riley, that the MCs allow to happen and it just set me off a smidge. Yet, again considering the world this series takes place in it is a realistic storyline.

Lastly, I am very interested to see where this series goes and am beginning book 2. Truly feel book 2 is where I will determine if this is a series I would suggest to my fellow readers.

Happy reading,
DD

Holy Batman this was good like seriously addictive what a page-turner this was I’m seriously impressed and can’t wait to read the next book in this series like yesterday.
So after Riley’s parents are killed in a car-crash she finds herself inhabiting a whole new world one filled with privilege riches and danger.
Adopted at birth Riley knows nothing of her origins and now this long lost family has resurfaced out of the woodwork to welcome her back into there fold.
Not out of any grand feeling of kindness or love but to fulfil a darker purpose one that will send her spinning headlong into danger.

Attending the prestigious Ducis academy Riley feels a fish out of water.
The whole town and academy are ruled by five founding family’s and there reach is on a global scale.
Beck, Evan, Jasper and Dylan are the heirs to Delta a global power and Riley is the fifth heir brought into the fold to replace her deceased brother.

This was intense and had so much chemistry, Not just Beck and Riley who actually set the pages alight with there heat but also all the other forming bonds and friendships.
It also had some great secondary characters like Riley’s friend Eddy and Dante her bestie from her past and though the boys were initially very hostile towards Riley I liked how they started to mellow she totally managed to alter the dynamic with her arrival and they became very protective over her fairly quickly.

But just when things seemed on the up for our girl we get given that explosive finish and that finale oh man what a shocker that was, my heart was literally in my mouth.
Poor Riley she feels so betrayed and I can’t see her forgiving anyone anytime soon.
I wanted to seriously annihilate certain individuals for sure.
Can’t wait to see how they all come back from this, I’m so invested now and can’t wait to watch how it all unfolds this really was such a fantastic read and a great start to the series.

I have lots of questions right now. Mostly due to the fact that this high school, oh wait - I mean academy, had uniforms with high heels for the girls? It what way does that make sense? Other than that, I feel like the romance definitely rushed by and I was just very suspicious of everyone.

Which, yeah, it makes sense because after starting Broken Wings you get the weird ass vibe that you should always be on your toes when it comes to anyone in this crazy gang/cult world. I'm not going to lie.. the Delta way just seemed like Beck was being brainwashed? Then there's Riley's adoptive parents and I'm pretty sure they were murdered... by her birth mother. That girl is beyond crazy and I just have a feeling she was behind it all.

Other than that, I'm not sure what to think about this ending. Like yeah them taping her killing some random ass dude could put her in jail but so what? I would rather be in jail than in a house with that psycho.

Since our girl, Riley, doesn't seem to trust anyone right now I'm kind of intrigued with what is going to happen to their little dynamic. The secrets definitely need to go if they want to keep shoving that "bond" crap in my face. If they don't then I would rather have Riley go far away with Dante.

Just finished a reread!
Fantastic characters, great writing, secrets, action, mystery, elite groups, rivalry and loyalties.
I loved the Heroine Riley and the four guys. Riley has lost her parents and gets sent to live with her birth parents during her senior year of high school. She is thrust in world with wealth and full of secrets and mystery. She meets her neighbors at the academy and soon find out they are heirs to the delta company.
Car racing, fighting, surviving, friendship, love, and loss ensue.
Loyalty and Trust is tested.
Who should she trust?
Why is she there?
So many questions!
Can’t wait for book 2!

Cliffhanger.

4 Not really RH YAY Stars

Because the warning in the description told me this was NOT a RH but there are 4 guys I decided to give this book a try. Also the reviews were good, Also it’s been trending on Amazon, so there you go.

I didn’t really have expectations on this book only because I usually find books on Amazon KU hit or miss with me, especially the authors that are favored on Amazon top selling list.

This was not the perfect book, I still think it needed to work out some kinks, but overall it did the job. I think what worked out for me, as in my personal taste as a reader, is that it wasn’t a RH romance. I liked that the Heroine had a group of guys but one of the them stood out the most.

Does this book mirror a lot of the books already written? Yes, the concept is nothing new, but that didn’t bother me. I just wanted something to read and to take my mind off of reality.

Broken Wings is highly unrealistic but I think that is what made the book the book.

Some of the scenes and dialogue did seem a little forced.

Riley, the Heroine is your typical rags to riches female. She’s plucked from her normal life and is deposited into this interesting, but dangerous world.

The world of Beck (the Hero), Jasper, Evan and Dylan.

Did I like the guys? Yes. Did I find them kind of mean? Yes. Was it over the top mean mean? No, so that all worked out.

The plot is very OTT so be mindful of that.

Riley’s mom is the villain in the book and as much as I love to hate a villain, she was a bit too much for me. Sometimes subtle is best, but I went with it.

I do like that the book is steamy. Too many authors advertise RH has steamy when there’s nothing really going on. This one will keep you on your toes.

Ironically I have picked up a book from each of the authors and they were DNF for me so goes to show maybe two heads are better than one.

I might give the authors another go … just to see if my opinion has changed.

Wow, intense and addictive. I am definitely digging the vibes this series is throwing off. Kick-ass Spotify playlist - check. Mean, alpha jerk-face bully - check. Hawwwwt sexy times - check, checkity, check, check! As usual, my book twin, Tessa, knows what I need and scored me a good one. I'm gonna jump into book 2 because I need to know what's next for Riley and the four guys...and Delta. Because whoa, that cliffy, gah!

The book I actually wanted to read is still processing on Amazon and isn't live yet, so I settled for another dark rich high school sort of story.

It wasn't awful but it wasn't good either.

The main idea about this book compared to other "rich academy with hot boys" novels is that the focus is less on the school part and more on the families and the like dark underworld of corporations and wealth.

Riley is the discarded daughter of a rich, powerful family (we learn the mom abandoned her out of spite I guess?) who is one of five that form Delta, this ultra powerful corporation with long standing ties and traditions. Each of the families has an heir as a requirement to have a say within Delta and have a say and Riley is now the replacement for her older brother, Oscar, who has died. It's necessary for Riley to be brought in as the replacement since her biological mom lost her uterus birthing Riley and is incapable of having more kids and to retain power there must be a blood heir. The heirs are tasked with fighting against competing corporations and what not with survivalist training and weapons and violence and Riley is brought into that fold and forms a like brotherhood bond with these four other heirs.

The idea isn't bad honestly.

But the issue is that we never scratch below the surface and things happen as rapid fire pacing within very little time. Riley has like made an enemy of them on one page and a handful later she's like under their protection and having sex with Sebastian on the reg. I don't feel like the stakes or expectations or much of anything was established very well; for a book that wants to dive into politics of wealthy families and corporations it sure doesn't spend much time establishing things. You're just supposed to kind of rely on prior knowledge of secret rich people corruption to plug in the holes I guess and everything else is just supposed to realistically unfold in very little time.

I didn't really care for any of the characters or their relationships or anything. This book is pretty crass and crude. I didn't feel engaged or immersed. I didn't care about what happened to anyone. I think the authors tried to flesh out things but it just wasn't working out for me.

I also never felt like these were supposed to be high school kids. They all seemed way older and worldly and rough for 17-18 year olds. And if they're supposed to be college kids then why is Riley at school with them? Colleges and high schools are never together they're always apart? I don't know. Details started not making sense and there's a lot of suspension of disbelief to endure. This story wants to be a gritty sort of "dark side of money" situation where it's like a gang or the mafia... except the gang is made of 1% upper class rich people instead of common criminals.

There's a lot of cussing and sex and violence and overall crassness. I'd definitely say this is a NA title. I might have liked it better if the ideas were developed more, Riley and Sebastian were likeable characters in a romance based on more than sex, and the tone had strived more for "looks elegant but can kill" than just "everything is gritty and harsh and crass."

I skimmed quite a bit near the end and overall my feelings are like... passionately negative enough to nit pick but I don't feel anything positive either. I'm mostly just *sigh* about the story and in dire need of a nap.

The continuation of this series interests me 0% so I won't be reading any sequels when they release.

If you want a high school tale with some grit you're better off with Filthy Rich Boys or even Paper Princess (what a year this has been; books are making me reflect on Paper Princess with kinder eyes. Yeet.)

Anyway, it's 11:28 a.m. I've been up all night waiting for the release of a different book and this was just sort of a downer of a story for me so, I'm going to go to bed and hope that by the time I wake up that the book I really wanted to read will be live on Amazon.

Oops, I did it again. I gave my trust to Tate fucking James and yet again, like the turd that I am; I'm left with a fucking cliffy! Dude, fuck everyone, if I was Riles, I would've turned that shit on everyone and peaced the fuck out.

Every one motherfucker needs to pay on the next book. Fuck. That. Shit. With. A. Broken. Dick. NOPE.

I know this is a collab book, but goddamn it if Tate doesn't have a knack of creating some of my favorite FMC and I ALWAYS hate the FMC's. I mean, there are a few that I love, but never has there been an author that religiously pops out awesome fucking FMC's.

There are some factors that are fucking hilarious, like, seriously? You don't know a Louboutin heel but know what a Bugatti Veyron is?! I'm not girly at the fuck all, but even I know what that fucking red shit is. Then you got a 17 year old that doesn't even get presents for her birthday cuz you're dirt poor but busses tables and what does she do with that money? Yep,  you guessed it, pays for laser hair removal. No, no, mom, I'm good just living in this dump with not even a side for dinner, just as long as my cunt looks good! OH, but my fave is when you go and do some crazy, dangerous shit right the fuck after a fatal accident?! I'm being vague as fuck cuz I don't like to do spoilers, but come the fuck on! THEN, you get the biggest joke of all .  . . having all that cock (all fucking 5 cuz, fucking Dante (YUM)) and its not a fucking RH?! Fucking goddamn blasphemy!

I am def gonna continue reading this series, especially cuz I see Dylan gets his own book and hot damn, that dude is all hard with a soft spot and we all know the spot wont be in his pants! Oh, yea, and also cuz Sebastian Roman Fucking Beckett is in this book. I mean, his fucking name alone is WAP worthy. Like have you ever seen a sexier name?! Fuck.

I have been DYINGGG to read Jaymin Eve and Tate James' Broken Wings series as Bully romance has been my obsession. Riley and Beck were FIREEEEE. OMG soo hot! I loved their relationship and the relationship she had with the remaining three boys. I seriously cannot get enough of this story!

Thrown into a world of unimaginable privilege and secrets, Riley has no idea what is coming for her nor what is in store for her at the hands of the four perfect, dangerous, elite boys who circle her like predators. GAH!! I can't even go into detail about the story line but the plot is INSANELY amazing. And that ending?! OMGGG! On to book two! 5 stars, ~Ratula
