The smallest towns have the darkest secrets. Raelynn Davenport. An elusive beauty queen with a sordid past. The Blackwoods. A prominent family with a graveyard full of tortured skeletons. The plan couldn't have been simpler. All I had to do was swap my big city life and tarnished reputation for a fresh start in a small town.Catching the immediate attention of said town's heart-throbs was nowhere on my agenda. Unapologetic about their true intentions, I find myself in the center of a game that has no concept of moral aptitude. All I wanted was peace. All they crave is madness. And in this game, losing isn’t an option. Not when we're playing for my life. Prelude to Deviant Games
So this was a fantastic appetiser for the forthcoming main course the only problem here I had was that I wanted that meal as soon as I finished here rather than waiting for its imminent release. Patience is definitely not my middle name folks. So in "Crucible", we get introduced to The Blackwoods, an extremely dodgy family with some way off Eeby-Geeby vibes and Raelynn Davenport in town to start over and escape a mistake in her not so distant past and it's not long into her arrival that she attracts the attention of two extremely sexy twins with a hidden agenda and a penchant for sadistic games. This is everything you have come to expect from this author, it's dark and twisted with nefarious intent throughout. This is your completely atypical love story, totally Bennett style: There are certainly no rainbows and roses here but instead we are introduced to the onset of Rae and the boy's chaotic and cruel courtship and I really can't wait to delve deeper here. Bring on the crazy. I voluntary reviewed a copy of Crucible (Deviant Games #0). All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
CRUCIBLE is a relatively short prequel to this authors upcoming AFFLICTION series that is due to be released in 2019. I am honestly not sure what to say that I haven't said ten thousand times when it comes to this author. I am starting to sound like a broken record (lol). I simply love this author. Even the few less than stellar books are still very enjoyable reads. She does dark and twisted as no one can...
So yea, no surprise here I loved this one. We are basically given a little teaser of things to come. A brief introduction to the Blackwood family and their twisted ways. Is it wrong to find raping psychos hot? Ya, don't answer that (lol). However, sexy I did find them, and I can't wait to delve deeper into this family, and see how Raelynn is going to fair as part of their games. This book was probably a little lighter on the blood and gore than a lot of this author's books, but as I mentioned, we are just getting started, so I am sure there will be lots debauchery and blood in the following books.
Really I don't have a lot more to say about it. I enjoyed it immensely, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book.
What a crazy story was that!!!! And after that ending, now i want to find out more about it... Phew!!! What can i say about this story??? Rae is new to town and she is involving herself with the Blackwood twins... A crazy and twisted story is developing cause the twins are more than the eye can catch and their minds are working in mysterious and twisted ways... What will happen after all???
"I wanted him and his brother to want me just as badly as I wanted to run far away from them..."
Seriously, guys!!! That was some crazy shit that Natalie had written for once again and honestly, i can wait to see how this story will end up.... And for once in my life, i really don't know if i need a HEA cause after what i gathered in here, i don't think a possibily to exist something like that, but maybe i'm wrong, right???
"The women were so responsive. You made them feel as if they had no other option but to play. Then, you gave them an illusion of choice. When they figured out it was a ruse, it was too late. The game was over, and the hunt had begun."
Rae was a strong and indepented woman who obviously let her lust rule her life and i'm afraid that she is going to paid the price for that slip... The twins are... weird. I personally preffered Jace... He was more easygoing... more straight to read him... Kaiden was giving me a creepy vibe in a weird way, since you know he seemed more gentle.. But don't fool yourself... They are both batshit crazy and with no moral compass... So be prepared!!!' The game is about to begin....
"Kaiden was merely an extension of me. What was mine was his, and what was his was mine."
I kinda went backwards and read the first one before the prequel. Lol oops
But like I said in the other review.. I am not a huge fan of them doing this to 14 other girls before finding their one rea.. :/ It made me feel like Rea wasnt speical to them. Since they played these games with others..
The games and characters are intresting...we meet the crazy ass family and then town that blinks away what this family does.
Rea is running away from a ex and just wanted to live in peace, but she doesnt get that shes already marked by Jace and Kade who are mysterious. Along with their friends. But she brushes it off, she does except the date or going out with the group and plays a innocent game of hide and seek. She gets to know Kade better and boy the dirty sex was hawt.
Same with Jace and Kade when they take her together. But she is starting to get suspicious. My question is.. Rea you a dumbass to stay for a cat that wasnt yours instead of idk running lol
No ow/om drama, no cheating, secondary charas, sexy times, no virgins
Push away from h Dubish consent M/m/f Sharing Dp Anal play/sex Torture Rape (idk which brother did it to her) Not safe Safe sex/no condom Cliffhanger

I knew this one would be dark and deviant simply based on the blurb, but it is looking like it’s going to a luscious little mind fuck as well and I cannot wait to see just how far things go. Now, Crucible is more of a “Hi! How are ya? Let’s introduce you around a bit and get a feel for the place” type of read, so we really only get a taste of what’s going on, though I will say that the smexy is HAWT! But we do meet what looks to be all the major players and I NEED to know more about them all. We get a good idea of who Raelynn is and her reasons for heading to small town USA and I have to say, I like her so far. She’s city, but not so big for her britches and is pretty chill. As for the Blackwoods, Jace and Kaiden, to put it simply, fascinate me and I need to know more about them and their crew of deviants.
While this is quite obvious and redundant to say, I am going to say it: This is a dark, deviant and debauched read. It may only be a prequel, but it didn’t shirk on anything. So, if you have triggers of any kind, stay far, far away, if not? Well, you’ll be in for one hell of a treat.
Now, my only issue is having to wait for the games to actually begin, but I shall do my best to practice patience until that time comes.
Yikes. I absolutely loved this story. Like all books I’ve read by this author I literally inhaled the story. I’m addicted to her words. Where do these stories come from? Heck I don’t care once they keep on coming.
Raelynn finds herself in a small town looking for a fresh start. She gets more than she bargains for when she meets The Blackwoods.
I’ve got a feeling this is only a teaser of what’s in store and I’m super excited to read more of this series. Bring it on!
My first finished read of 2019. And it didn't disappoint. Nothing from Natalie Bennett ever does. Because everything she writes is gold. I have fallen in love with the Blackwoods and want more from them. I cant wait to read more from this messed up family
introduces readers to the crazy Blackwood family. Twins Jace and Kaiden are insane and twisted. Jace is a charmer has no filter and an a**. And he was the one I took a liking to. Kaiden is gentle and odd until you make him mad then he can get evil. Ending was intense.
Short read, plot is twisted and unique with triggers.

Disturbingly sexy is how I would describe Crucible by Natalie Bennett. This is the prequel to the upcoming series, the Deviant Games, with book one out soon and is already set up quite nicely for all the twisted, dark fun that is bound to occur. For a shorter story Natalie Bennett sure did pack the punches, with the introduction to the town and it's key players. From the blurb you get a tiny taste that something's not quite right but the real details were actually pretty shocking, straight out of a show on the Investigation Discovery channel.
Raelynn Davenport is ready to start a new life in the small town of Harmony Springs. But being the new girl draws all the attention, especially from the Blackwood family who basically rules over everyone. Rae is instantly drawn to cocky and alluring twins Jace and Kaiden, who are just as intrigued by her and won't stop their pursuit til Rae gives in. What started off as harmless fun between three people soon turns darker with the true intentions of the Blackwoods starting to come out. I absolutely loved everything about Crucible, Natalie Bennett does sinful and suspenseful so well and has left me craving for these games to begin.
HOLY SWEET BABY JESUS WTF did I just read is what I was thinking when I finished reading this novella. I have to say that Natalie Bennett has knocked it out the ball park with this one. I can't wait for the series to begin.
In this novella we get the introduction to this series. I will say this it is going to be dark and twisted and a real mind eff. The Blackwood family is no joke they have some serious effed up minds and friends. Raelynn moves to this small town to get away from the big city life only she walks right into the hands of the towns golden boys Jace and Kaiden Blackwood.
I can't wait to start reading this series because the novella was kick arse so I know the first book is going to be effing amazing!
Crucible by Natalie Bennett is book is the Prequel for the Deviant Games Series. This starts the story of Raelynn Davenport. Raelynn is looking to get a fresh start in the small town of Harmony Springs...all is going good until the Blackwood Family seems to interested in her. They are the predominant family in that town, with some dark secrets. Jace and Kaiden Blackwood are interested in Raelynn and think she is the women for them...but can they make her see this? Great start to a series.
Crucible is just the prequel to a series and hot damn. I need the series like nobody's business. I'm craving it. Give. Me.
Bennett just keeps bringing the dark, appealing to my savage soul. She makes you crave the evil and immoral men. I just want to be sandwiched between Jace and Kaid. *fans self* Her writing keeps getting better, and I'm here for it.
This series is going to be a fun and twisted ride. I absolutely cannot wait for more.
Thanks to the author for providing ARC in exchange for honest review.
Crucible is a short prequel of the Affliction series. I must say I was a bit disappointed at first but it's Natalie Bennett. She never fails to amaze her readers.
The reason I was disappointed because it was until I read to chapter six, the story starts to sound interesting. The whole story ain't long so I kinda read half and suddenly feel like I can finish the rest.
So the story, yes...what do you expect from Natalie Bennett. Her stories are always dark, disturbing, erotic...etc. But you know what I still love it.
Here we have Raelynn and the Blackwoods family. The main focus is on the Blackwoods, they are sick with their mind, but they are like the super hot alpha.
I don't want to spoil the story, so please do read since it's from Natalie Bennett. The story is highly recommended.
Natalie Bennett's Crudible is a novella that gripped me and left me waiting for more. It set the decorum to a dark, twisted and morally wrong story I couldn't get enough of. The characters' creepiness clung to me, seeped into my blood. Did I like them? No. Did they intrigue me? Immensely. The suspense and danger felt palpable, and the heroine's decisions set me on edge while the game slowly appeared, trapping me like it did Rae.
Heart poundingly full of darkness, suspense and action.
This was an exciting read and unputdownable. I loved the build up, and the devious plot and characters kept me hooked right to the end.
Some deliciously hot scenes interspersed within the story gave it that extra kick. Mystery and intrigue drew me in until I couldn't look away from Rae's story.
Oh my goodness! I don't know why I took so long to start with this series. It is an amazing and a very intense read that it will have you wanting more of this twisted and dark games. It is definitely a very deviant game this chacaters are playing. I can not wait to see how all of this will come out at the end.
This is the prequel book in the Deviant Games series, and the story of Rae. Trying to move on from her sordid past, Rae moves to a small town, in hope of some peace. When she catches the eye of Jake, and Kaiden, the Blackwood twins, she ends up an unwilling player in their twisted games. This was dark, intense, twisted, suspenseful, and kept me intrigued the whole way through.
I started this book and couldn't put it down I read in one sitting. I love the story and I can't wait for more of the Blackwoods family they are one crazy, messed up family and I can't wait to read more. Well written and will keep you turning the pages.
This was a great prelude to this series. NB lays the groundwork of our main characters and they're very interesting especially Kade and Jace. Rae is a strong heroine and will definitely give those guys a run for their money.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
Crucible From Natalie Bennett is the prequeal to Affliction. A new family she will be writing about in 2019.
Raelynn Davenport is an elusive beauty queen with a sordid past. The Blackwoods are a prominent family with a graveyard full of torturned skeltons. The plan coudn't have been simpler. All Raelynn had to do was swap her big city life and tarnished reputation for the frest start in a small town. Catching the immediate attention of said town's heart-throbs was nowhere on her agenda. Unapologetic about their true intentions, she finds herself in the center of a game that has no concept of moral aptitude. All she wanted was peace. All they crave is madness. And in this game, losing isn't an option. Not when they are playing for her life.
Oh holy gosh!!! Can I just say that I need Affliction right this second. It can not get here soon enough for me. Iam so excited about this book that I can't even tell you how much. I about died when this prequeal ends so be ready to have your heart in your throat and for sure wanting to know what is going to happen.
Welcome to the town of Harmony Spring's where the Blackwoods rule and the new girl in town has caught their attention...big time. Raelynn has moved out of the big city where she was a model and events caused her to have to leave. Once in Harmony Springs she immediately goes to the tudor house she bought without sight upacks and heads to the towns diner. Here she meets Kayla who will become her friend and she too for the first time meets the Blackwood twins but doens't reallize that they are twins at first. Kayla warns her about the Blackwoods and how the whole town loves them but there isn't something right about the. This is the beginning of the story of Raelynn and Jace and Kaiden Blackwood. It is a journey that will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat and screaming for the next book!!!! Bring on Affliction. I am beyond ready.
Holy Dark Romance! If you feel like books are better the darker and dirtier they are, then boy I have a book for you. Crucible is such an amazing story. The author draws you in from the very beginning and keeps you wanting more. I do want to give the disclaimer that this book has a cliffy and involves more than one main male.
The plot of this story is interesting. What happens when a city girl gets shipped off to a small town that is hiding many secrets? Well you will have to read to find out! There is mystery to this story along with the heat and romance. It is written beautifully.
Raelynn is our main female in this story. She is running from a past that she can't seem to get away from. I love that she has a strength in her that most people couldn't imagine having. She is sweet and kind as well. Then you have the two main males. Each are wonderfully delicious in their own way. I love how similar they are yet completely different.
The heat in this book is off the charts. The dynamics between the characters are amazing. I love how theres a tease to what could happen. The author does a great job of building up the tension between the characters.
The writing style of this book is great. This story is told from multiple characters point of views. The pace of the book is steady. The world the author created sucks you and leaves you craving more. I cannot wait to see where the author takes this story next. There are so many questions that I need answered.
Overall, I am in love with this story. I am obsessed with the characters and the mystery surrounding them. I can see this story totally spinning off into an entire series surrounding all the characters introduced. What a great novel!
HOLY HELL!!! What a prequel to a series I'm sure I am going to love. If you are looking for a sweet read filled with hearts, flowers, and love you need to keep on scrolling. As the author puts at the beginning of the book this book does not contain any hearts and flowers. This is only my 2nd book by this author and I do believe I am becoming addicted to her writing.
Now for my review:: The book starts out with our heroine Raelynn in desperate need of change of scenery. I will not go into the details to the reason why as I am a believer that you need to read to find them out for yourself. She finds herself in a quaint little town in hopes to find some peace and quiet. Just when she thinks she may actually have found that she finds out she might be wrong.
Enter the twins and their merry band of misfits. The twins are like 2 sides to the same coin. On 1 hand 1 is very laid back(or so it seems) while the other is very intense. They come from one of the most prominent families in town. Lets just say some feel as if they are untouchable. They like to play games and the games they like to play are far from a family game night. They like to stack the deck in a matter of speaking, because losing is not an option for them. I do believe they have met their match in more ways than one where Rae is concerned. She is not the yes girl so to speak. She has a mind of her own and is not afraid to speak it.
I am so looking forward to see just how all of this plays out. I am sitting here (im)patiently waiting for the next installment to this series. I will say the author has a way with her writing style that pulls in from the beginning to the end. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat as you read turning the pages just to see what is going to happen next.
Raelynn moved to a small town and glad she’d made the right choice, she only had one neighbour who kept to themselves. Entering the house with a familiar smell, she started feeling and emotions reminded her of why she moved to the town, if she hadn’t things would have been worse. Everything was going great, she had a job interview tomorrow and liked Kayla from the diner, who organised it. She couldn’t help the strange feeling from the men that she’d met, particularly the last man who said he’d see her soon. Jace didn’t believe in love at first sight but after seeing Raelynn, he knew his dad was right, heading back to the booth. Careful no one heard them, most knew the wealthier families has extracurricular activities they enjoyed, but the group of friends decided to play a game with the new girl. Kade sees Raelynn as perfect, but he’s brother Jace reminds him they have to be careful with her, but she will like them, adore them and won’t have much choice in the end. Raelyn can’t believe that her fantasies about the brothers played out and neither of them seem bothered that she’d been with both of them, but when they were both their, she knew she should have said no but she couldn’t, and it was amazing. Things were amazing, until they weren’t, she should have seen it coming, they didn’t define what they were doing, but seems the twins had other ideas. People had warned her to stay away from them, but she didn’t. Great prequel to Affliction.
