You murder a man, and all of a sudden people are scared of you.
Slate Solis went from being a guy that people went to in times of need to an ex-con that people crossed the street to avoid being too close to.
He knows he’s done wrong, but out of all of his sins, only one really bothers him—coveting thy neighbor’s wife.
Harleigh Belle—the cute little lady that never gives him a second glance.
After seeing her for the first time while he was in prison, she’s stayed on his mind for three long years. Each time she comes in to visit with her friend on family day, he can’t help but stare.
Then the day comes that he’s set free, and he’s almost disappointed that he’ll never see her again.
Except fate has different plans.
He hasn’t been back in his house for more than three hours when he sees her.
Harleigh Belle in all her glory…oh, and her husband that is everything Slate isn’t.
He tells himself that her being fifty feet away from him, all day every day, is a complete coincidence. One that he shouldn’t take advantage of. The more time passes, the harder it gets to stay away. Until one day, and one very ill-timed thunderstorm, ruin everything.
Who knew that baby-making-weather was a real thing?
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense, and has a love for all things romance. You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.
This book was just one more reason why I love Lani Lynn Vale! I've been waiting for Slate's book ever since I met him 8 books ago. How can I not want to meet this hero? After his partner, who was also his fiancee, was murdered, he went after her killer and ended up with a murder rap. I think it should have have been viewed as justifiable homicide or maybe suicide by cop, but then again, I'm a sucker for a vigilante and I'm in love with Slate.
Slate gets out and ends up moving into the house he bought before he went in. He just wants to be alone. He loves his sister, but he needs his space. He's come to respect his brothers in the MC, but they don't understand his reticence. So what happens when his alone time is interrupted by his neighbor constantly taking over his yard?
Harleigh is a sassy, spunky, feisty bundle of awesomeness. I didn't like her at first because she made wild assumptions about my sweetie, Slate, but my opinions changed just as quickly as hers did. When she was able to see everything that was amazing about Slate, she became my kind of girl. Not quite dealing with past trauma, her quirks keep putting her in Slate's path and their love seemed almost inevitable.
If you are lonely, dim all the lights and put on a scary movie. Then you won't feel so alone. - I can't get enough of the chapter quotes 🤣🤣🤣
With tons of suspense and a huge revelation that will change these characters lives forever, Vale gave us a banger of a tale. There was one twist to the story that I'm still a bit shocked by. I'm wondering if the fullness of it was covered in another book. I'm going to have to go back and read the ones I've missed. If you love hot and spicy romance with suspense, you're going to love this one!
O.M.F-Bomb.G!!! Slate and Haleigh's story was the PERFECT wrap up for yet another brilliant Lani Lynn Vale series! Heart poundingly emotional, gut hurting funny and, hot and bothered SCORCHING F-Bomb truly is a full on body experience!!!
Slate Solis is the man I’ve been more curious about from this series. Every since the very first book, where we got Izzy and Rome’s story in Mess Me Up, when Slate was introduced to us, as well as the unveiling of his tragic past and what got him in prison, I’ve been dying to see him get his HEA, and what role his past would have in his future happiness. I can honestly say that Ms. Vale crafted that past into his story, it all in the most perfect and unexpected of ways, because not once did I feel that Harleigh was not his true love. We felt the need, the hunger, the desire, the yearning, was there from the very first sight of her. Even if he thought she was a married woman, lol. He just couldn’t stop his craving, but hell, he fought the pull with everything he had, but once it was clear she was free and all his for the taking… Control unleashed! LOL
I felt that grin in my soul…if my vagina could be considered my soul.
Harleigh we know from the very first LLV series, Freeboards, as Max and Payton’s baby girl. Like all the Free kids, she’s overall AWESOME and kickass, but in reaction to her hot neighbor apparent dislike of her, she shows she’s my ‘spirit animal’ because she just took it and gave it back tenfold in the attitude department. With the ever present chemistry there, this bickering between them just became the most delicious kind banter.
I did know one thing, though, and that was that a starving man could only hold out for so long. Place something like Harleigh, who was a feast, in front of him and well, let’s just say that there would come a time when even the most well behaved of men would break. And I wasn’t well behaved.
Only…my body wanted him. I wanted him. Who was I to deny myself something it wanted as badly as I did Slate?
Once they had nothing in their way, all the misconceptions cleared, and the attraction just became too much to contain, and all that craving unleashed, WOW…Talk about perfect timing with the baby making weather as background! Perfect setting! And so unmeasurably HOT!!!
Slate and Harleigh were indeed the perfect cherry ending on top of this amazing series. Slate is now amongst my all time fav LLV, and best book boyfriends. He stole a bit of my heart way back then on Mess Me Up, and now I just fell head over heels for the big, loner and kind, bearded man. Add to that his obsession, protectiveness and undying love and devotion for Haleigh, even when he was trying so hard to alienate the feeling, he just conquered my heart completely. Harleigh is such a relatable character, completely unapologetic – which I floved! – and such an overall amazing female main character. How could she not with those parents?!
Lani Lynn Vale couldn’t have tied up more beautifully the Bear Botton MC. These were the perfect characters to give us all the feels but also all the closure we needed from this gang, and what a better way than a trip to Disney World?! LOL. I loved every second of F-Bomb, and that Epilogue was the most stunning and heart warming way to wrap up this journey, while also simultaneously being the golden key for future and new series, because with that teasing of Harleigh’s brother, Dax, character?! I need his very own book STAT!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Seeing the woman underneath me happy would be my top priority.
“Don’t worry, Slate. You’d have to chase me off at this point. There are quite a few things about you that have me addicted.” I smiled. “Like what?” I asked. “Your kiss,” she said softly, her breath mingling with my chest hairs. “Your touch.” I swallowed when she trailed a kiss from one pec to the other. “You. All of you.”
I fell in love. Deep. Hard. Forever.

Slate was someone who’d caught my interest when he cameoed in the books of other characters. He was this badass good guy with a bad boy vibe that was broody and sexy as hell.
Harleigh Belle brought this feisty, funny, and quirky dynamic to the story. She definitely liked to shake things up and keep them interesting. I liked their exchanges and the resulting shenanigans.
The plot was a little out there and a bit scattered but that didn’t stop me from devouring the story. The pace was on the fast side. The imagery strong. The tone was true to the author’s style.

Harleigh Belle and Slate Solis, their relationship was one that started out of a misunderstanding. Then when things start coming to light, there's no holding back. I love that another of the Free kids is finding their happy ending. And its always good to see the original members of Free. The little glimpses of Slate that you got in the previous book in the Bear Bottom Guardians MC series has kept me demanding more of him. And now that I get his book I just couldn't help but love it. Harleigh Belle and Slate are the perfect couple. She reminded me of her mother and the way that Slate was reminded me of her father. And in the end they came together and the perfect couple was created, that balanced each other out. Its just sad to be at the end of the Bear Bottom Guardians MC series, but I know that we will see these characters again in the future.
You can't even begin to understand my excitement at hearing from the OG hero's. Max and Payton's book is one of my all time favourites so of course I was fucking stoked to have Harleigh's story. It's crazy that she's all grown up now?. Seriously it feels like yesterday that I was reading about Payton's hella traumatic labour and tiny baby Harleigh getting sung to by jack, put in to a cup and wearing Max's wedding band as a anklet. How the hell has it come full circle already!!!.
I was dying for Slates story since getting a few peaks of him from Izzy's book and Bayou's. 100% got more that I bargained for let me tell.
I love their story. I didn't expect it or what happens along the way but it kept things real interesting.
I love it when the hero and heroine have that frenemies vibe at the start. The bickering is basically forplay for these two and that simmering sexual tension gets me every damn time. It took a minute for them to get comfortable around eachother but I feel like they built that connection before they got down to the fun stuffs which definitely made them as a couple more believable.
Like I said .. there is definitely a few surprises along the way and I definitely wasn't expecting Harleigh's story. With Slate we already had a vague idea of what happened so it wasn't a huge shocker. But her? No mam. I was not ready for it. I do love that they seemed to just get eachother. They were aware of eachothers boundaries and gave eachother room when it was needed. The chemistry is out this world between them and I feel like their relationship develops naturally throughout.
Heck yes for the fact we get so much of Max and Payton!. I love that there's so many familiar faces in here and they're all intermingling. As always the banter is on point and the light hearted bickering had me chuckling. This story is deeper than I thought it would be. It hits a few topics that aren't for the faint hearted and for sure will take you on a emotional rollercoaster. But as always with this author she gave me everything I love in a book. Hilariously dysfunctional shenanigans. Crazy family dynamics. A story that makes you feel and characters that you can't help but love.
There's never been a book that's not a 5 star / 2728437 star for me because these stories give me so much greatness.
Ugh. Very disappointing and boring. I guess the best thing about the book is that it’s short.
Slate (former cop, brother of Izzy) is in prison for killing his fiancé’s murderer when he sees Harleigh (virgin, nurse, daughter of Max & Payton). Harleigh is at the prison visiting her friend who is jailed for a murder he didn’t commit.
The story has a few things going on. First, you know I hate the fact that Slate was engaged to another woman that died. Ugh I’m so sick of that trope. I think it was used in at least 3 books, maybe more. Then you’ve got Harleigh’s gay friend that had a boyfriend and murder and I’m not even sure why they were included in the story. It was just distracting and added NOTHING to the story. You’ve got an ex-friend of Slate’s that now hates him. That ended up being a main part of the story at the very end of the book; however, there wasn’t anything in the book that made you interested in that part. It was barely acknowledged anywhere in the book. There was nothing intriguing. It was meh. Then there’s the fact there was a guy that nearly raped Harleigh and he was in jail. It’s maybe briefly mentioned 3 times in the book. Again, boring and added nothing. Then there’s this whole Disney trip, which was also boring as f*ck.
The sex was seriously lacking. Their first time together was mediocre compared to all the other books. Plus, afterwards he ignores her for two days straight. When she confronts him he just smiles and asks her to go to Disney with him. Um…. How about f*ck you. You don’t get to ignore me after I give you my virginity. Then the times they had sex after that were just blah. I also never believed they loved each other. I don’t think he ever even told her. They also talk about wanting kids together but not about loving each other. It was just so weird. THere were 3 previous books where I cried from the couple's sweet love for each other. These two people - why even bother.
Then the epilogue includes the POV from everyone in the family and then a quick sentence from Slate and that’s all. Freaking disappointing and boring. Especially compared to the other books where we get a lengthy epilogue. Maybe the author was just ready to end the series and pushed out her last unoriginal ideas.
Again, we get short women, chocolate milk, more freaking thunderstorms, beards, houses burning down, and other repetitive sh*t. I don’t think there was any potty humor though, which shocked me.
My recommendation is to just skip this book completely. You gain nothing from it.

Introduction F-Bomb was a random pickup type of read! I was so thrilled to get to this one. I know its way out of order for this series, but I will say from my impression on this one, it can easily be read as a standalone if its needed. I didn't feel lost or anything and the MC aspects weren't super heavy. I really am enjoying this author's writing style. It is doing something so much for me and I am just getting a kick out of it. I really have enjoyed this one, and it was delightful. I honestly didn't know what I expected, but it wasn't this one and I definitely enjoyed the manner in which it was written. Definitely recommend.
My Outlook F-Bomb was such a delightful read. I took too long in writing the review so it probably won't be as detailed as I would like but I do want to convey my thoughts on this one. I absolutely enjoyed this one so much. It was such a blast to read. I also really liked the way in which it was developed. And if you like light MC romance, then you definitely need to pick this one up. I was so charmed by their relationship and all the fun bantering was so delightful. The way that these two just played around with each other was so endearing. It had this next door neighbor charm to the story that just had me wanting to keep listening to it. I was so drawn to this one. And the romance was so interesting. I really liked how despite the lighter feel of the story we also get these emotional snippets that just brought great balance to the story as a whole. And these two do a trip to Disneyland, like can you get more adorable than that?? It was so interesting seeing them work through the issues and find their common ground together.
There is some great steam to this one, that wasn't overdone but wasn't too light either. The author really implemented it just right that felt so satisfying and real.
Overall View I found F Bomb to be a charismatic MC romance that curled my toes and had me smiling all the way through! Definitely a keeper!
Slate Solis has served his time for the murder of the killer of his fiancee. He is out and ready to have some solitude, that would be easy if his brother in law didn't make him a member of a The Bear Bottom Guardians MC and the neighbor he had seen a few times before hadn't kept a permanent resident in his mind.
Harleigh Belle cant deny that she finds Slate attractive but he has become a thorn in her side. After a few pranks go awry Slate doesn't know what to do with Harleigh kiss her or send her on her way. Could the best thing that ever happened to him be the one to heal his heart?
Fantastic. Loved the banter between Slate and Harleigh. Harleigh is probably my favorite heroine so far. Loved Slate and was eager to read his story when he was introduced. This series keeps knocking it out the park. Well worth picking up.
GAH! Lani Lynn Vale has struck gold once again! I have been looking forward to Slate Solis' book since Mess Me Up where we met Slate's sister Izzy and her wounded hero, Rome. I knew Slate had an amazing story and I could not wait for it!! I absolutely loved him and Harleigh so much. Their chemistry was combustible and I loved how they were both drawn to one another despite wanting to avoid each other in the same breath. I never wanted this story to end!!
It is a proven fact that this author's stories can never be long enough. I seriously can read them forever. I fall in love with the stories and the amazing brotherhood, friendships, banter and comraderie. Slate and Harleigh were so sexy. She was sassy, strong and such a great match for this broody, reclusive yet loving man. Slate was just so perfect. Protective of his family and the woman who got under his skin and into his heart so fast. I truly loved this story. As always I loved the added suspense woven throughout the story and can't wait for more! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula
I love this author’s take on love and life! Her characters are realistic, with the right amounts of sarcasm, humour and seriousness that lends itself well to the many different situations they find themselves in. Slate and Harleigh’s story fit right in as their unique take on romance played out like a sweet, grumpy ride…
I’d been biding my time, waiting for Slate’s story! Protective doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of his cop to criminal persona. Bad-a** for sure, but stopped in his tracks by a pixie who loved to push his buttons. Their frenemy relationship was full of velvet-covered insults and lots of sexual tension and so, so much fun to watch! From light-hearted to serious moments their emotions ran the gamut and I was happily along the ride…
Catching up with old favourites and always happy to meet new ones, the characters stole the show once again. And has me craving even more Bear Bottom Guardians…
Meh. I read this series just for Slate's book and it's been rather a disappointment, slow and boring with very little connection between the two main characters.
I really enjoyed this story it was fun and flirty and had a bit of suspense and as usual had a cast of really great characters that we throughly enjoyed.
I really loved the romance that developed between Slate & Harleigh and I love how the story started off with some of a love & hate relationship infused with a lot of humor and a whole lot of teasing and a few pranks.
I loved how the romance developed between these two characters as both of them had quirks and a whole lot of chemistry.
As the story unfolded we saw Slate adjusting to the life on the outside but, what I loved most about Slate was his honesty and taking responsibility for the things that landed in prison and how he owned that sh**.
Harleigh was just a whole lot of fun and she made us laugh time and time again. Harleigh is a tell it like it is kind of girl and is dealing with her own demons but, between the two of them talking and courtship and falling in love they are both working through their issues and it doesn't take long for either of them to fall hard for one another.
Overall we love it as it had a great cast of characters and we got to see more of the MC family this time interacting with Slade and Harleigh and re-connecting and forging new friendships. The story was had humor and suspense and more then a few surprises and we just loved that. What we loved most is this couple had a connection to one another from the very beginning even when they were snapping at each other but, they were perfect together as they had a lot of common goals and some major heat between the two.We loved the story and read it from beginning to end in one sitting but, that always happens with a Lani Lynn Vale book "we just love her!"
F-Bomb is the 9th book in the Bear Bottom MC Series by Lani Lynn Vale and I can definitely say it is my top favourite of the series! Slate and Harleigh are amazing together. Tons of passion, angst and suspense in this one. The connection between the characters was pure fire and the tension and build up was perfectly done. No matter what this author writes she continues to blow me away with her writing. Loved every word from beginning to end! The Bear Bottom MC Series is a fierce family. They are not all related by blood but they love each other all the same and their protectiveness I love. Incredible series by LLV!
4.5 stars. This has got to be one of my favorite LLV books to date. I loved Slate the hero . The trip to Disney World brought back many memories for me and were so true as the author wrote. The epilogue was epic!
Gonna just say I found the heroine Harleigh super annoying. She was a grown woman and her petty attitude when she didn't get what she wanted wasn't attractive in the least. If it hadn't been for her being a hot chick the hero Slate wouldn't have dealt with that crap. He should've just took the hammock down and then seen where whiny Harleigh was with her naps. Ugh.
I also found it to be a cop out that LLV once again throws the ex or in Slate's case, a dead ex, under the bus. Things were bad or getting there, he had doubts, she cheated etc etc. Always with the easiest path out of any true angst or drama.
And when Slate said the moment he fell in love at 55% ??? Hahahaha sure buddy.
And allllwaayyyys with the "virgin in the figurative sense" come on! I've not read about so many "virgins" essentially popping their own cherries by using dildos ever until I read LLV series'. It's ridiculous to think this is the norm on top of heroes with monster dicks just ramming up in there with no repercussions. 🙄🙄🙄
And Harleigh "screeching" at her work supervisor?? How is that ever okay in a professional setting? How was I supposed to accept this chick who acted childishly all the freaking time?
I don't even care she had a scare in college where her roommate's boyfriend almost raped her and that's a big reason she can't sleep inside her house because of the silence and darkness. Tack on how she refused to seek help from a therapist or anything despite her trauma disrupting her life? Yeah, frustrated is thy name. Not even her dear daddy had pushed for her to get help. How was I supposed to sympathize with her when from what I understood this happened years before and she still was too stubborn to seek help despite literally everyone knowing her issues if not the reasons behind them. I just couldn't.
PS: it only occurred to me while reading this book that LLV puts her heroine's in a medical field 9/10 times. Endless nurses of some variation (ultrasound and xray technician, ME, school nurse) and such. None get to be cops. Or firefighters. Only variety I've seen is Ashe who was a criminal psychologist but did the cop thing too and like Baylee and Winter I guess who were paramedics. And then there's the odd morgue beautian, medical examiner, teacher and I think there was a lawyer in there too. But you get the idea. Mostly it's all medical. It's kind of boring tbh.
Me like everyone who has read this series has probably been waiting for Slate's book. If you were like me you would have fallen in love with this guy from the first time he was mentioned.
Slate just got out of jail after being in prison for killing his fiancé's killer. So when he finally gets to his house and finds some women sleeping on his hammock, and refusing to leave what is he to do but put on the sprinklers, lol. Harleigh is a freaking rock star. She is sweet, shy (sometimes), sassy and such a strong character. And from the moment she saw Slade she kind of liked this broody, badass guy. Slade was sexy, broody and totally protective of his grandma and his sister, what more could you want from a man.
This book was definitely another favourite! It had lots of laughter, sassiness, drama and definitely some suspense added in to the mix. I don't know if this was the last book in this series, but I will be very sad to say goodbye to these alpha heroes. But knowing Lani and her series, I'm sure they will make an appearance in another series
Slate and Harleigh were hot for each other from the moment they met while he was in prison. Then the meet again after he is out, and they start bickering from the start. Instead of annoying me I laughed.
I usually enjoy L. Vales books, and this was not exception, but I did find myself rolling my eyes at some of the commentary. Then I was disappointed after I found out about Slate's and his dead fiancee's relationship. I mean he killed someone for killing this women. He spend several years in prison. I was disappointed that once some things came to the light I didn't get any closure or information on how those details affected Slates life.
That being said I almost always have a good life while reading L. Vale's books and the sex was super hot.
5 Star Review F-Bomb (Bear Bottom Guardians MC #9) by Lani Lynn Vale
Despite having read other books by Lani Lynn Vale I had absolutely no idea what I was getting into with this addition to the Bear Bottom Guardians MC.
What can I say about F-Bomb that will give it the justice it deserves?
Slate Solis is an ex-con just released from jail. People used to come to him for help, now they fear him. He is shocked to find out that the woman he has lusted after for several years whilst in jail is non other than his neighbour Harleigh Belle.
Despite knowing that he needs to avoid Harleigh, Slate is drawn to her. The chemistry between them is almost electrifying with it’s intensity. Harleigh is a strong and feisty woman who is the perfect heroine for Slate.
F-Bomb is not only a romance, it is a story of brotherhood and the suspense that is throughout the story only added to my reading pleasure.
At times the story was confronting as it tackled several hard issues making it a but like riding an emotional roller coaster. However through it all the strength of the writing and the characters themselves captivated me as you cannot help but be drawn in.
Simply put I loved this book and now I am off to read previous books in this series.
F-Bomb is the ninth and final book in the Bear Bottom Guardians MC series by Lani Lynn Vale, and this series has become one of my all-time favorites from her. Like the overwhelming majority of Lani’s other works, this book stems from another series, or two actually. While not technically a spin-off of either the Heroes of the Dixie Wardens or the Freebirds series, it does expand on them as it features a hero or a heroine who is the children of characters in those series. What sets Vale’s work apart from anyone else’s is that with each new book Lani releases, she builds upon those original worlds, further developing not just the characters introduced in the current book, but the older characters as well. For Vale’s readers, this results in a very distinct and unique reading experience that is essentially the literary equivalent of a long-running, daytime soap opera—but without the infidelity and divorces.
From the moment I learned of this hero, Slate Solis, I was intrigued. A cop, convicted of murder for avenging his partner—who also happened to be his fiancée. I couldn’t wait to see what Vale would do with this man’s story, and she didn’t disappoint. Her quirky sense of humor and an interesting suspenseful plot was intricately woven into a romance between a beast of a man and the pint-sized daughter of Max Tremaine, one of Vale’s original heroes from her Freebirds series. The heroine, Harleigh, was a lot like her mother, Payton, and I absolutely devoured the scenes with her parents. Vale capped off a fantastic series with a wonderful second-chance romance full of heat, heart and heaps of Vale’s humor. Engaging, amusing and wholly engrossing, Vale’s writing pulled me right in and kept me there as I devoured her words. Five smooches from me for F-Bomb by Lani Lynn Vale! ~Danielle Palumbo
I have read a few opposites attract books lately and I can honestly say this one has been my favorite. In this book we get a broody, moody, loner in Slate, and with Harliegh we get a sassy, out going, take no nonsense kind of girl.
When Slate first sees Harliegh he knows there is something special with her. She is one of very few people who does not shy away from his size. When Slate is released from prison and decided to start fresh the first person he lays eyes on is Harliegh. With all the bantering these two do back and forth you just know they are made for each other.
We get a beautiful story with a little bit of a mystery splashed with some romance. We get to see a man who believes himself to be broken get put back together again piece by piece. We see how said man finally gets his HEA with a woman who is not only true to herself, but to him as well.
DNF. I didn’t really like the heroine. Her words and actions were those of someone whose been spoiled by the men in their lives and is used to getting her way. I really tried to get past it but her saying her family has been wrapped around her finger since birth made my eyes roll. Whoopty freakin doopty…that’s not a big accomplishment. A lot of things she said just came off as immature and obnoxious. I’m sorry but I just didn’t like her for Slate. I really tried, but gave up after awhile.
After just being released from prison, Slate went from Hero to Zero, with people now afraid of him. He realizes what he has done in the past and where he wants his future to go.
Harleigh was a random blip on his radar and Slate imagined he would never see her. That is until he sees her again, so close and finds it hard to stay away.
Another fantastic book by Lani Lynn Vale. I always look forward to her books and she rarely lets me down. This book has a bit of everything in it. It made me happy, sad, shocked and mad. The bad guy needed taking care of and Slate and Harleigh had a lot to work out, but in true Lani Lynn Vale style, they had a lot of help where they needed it the most. The chapter of the next series that is coming up was really good, so I can't wait for that to come out now.
Though I love this author, I felt this was a lot of cut and paste, and stalled conversations. Also, the dialogues were very repetitive of previous books. I have read all her books, so it's possible I need a break. Just very mundane, ordinary, stupid conversations. Felt like the bad guy was an after thought and squeezed in a certain parts of the book. Sorry, this one didn't do it for me.
This is my first book by Miss Vale and this is not going to be my last! wow what an amazing ride this book was! I seriously can't wait to read more from this author!
I was really looking forward to Slate's book, but it left me a bit disappointed. It lacked a lot of the suspense you come to expect. The best part was the Disney trip. As a passholder, I go often and loved all the references to rides and resorts :-) But the whole open stairwell and room entering part seemed pretty far-fetched given how security-conscious Disney is.
Harleigh rubbed me the wrong way from the start. She came off bratty and spoiled. I get that she assumed the hammock was their property and that since the owner hadn't showed up in the year she lived there, that it was fair game. But she didn't have to behave like a 3 year old who won't give up their favorite toy. Admittedly, the whole sprinkler part was pretty hilarious.
I really liked Slate. He served a prison sentence for murdering his cop partner fiance's killer (we also learn the truth about that). I liked him based on previous interactions with him while in prison, so I knew he was a good guy. He was definitely more guarded and closed-off in this book after being released. But I completely understood that.
I liked Harleigh and Slate's interactions and once they finally got over the whole 'my property' part, they were cute together. This book was just missing something that made me not love it quite as much as other books by LLV. I still love LLV though and will keep reading future series. The kids of the original MC though haven't been as appealing as the originals.
I was so excited for Slate’s story and per usual Lani Lynn Vale did not disappoint! After getting a little insight in the past couple books about Slate and the surface reason as to why he is in jail and then what he does while in jail, I was hooked and knew there was much more to the story but I was not prepared. I also really enjoyed Harleigh and her story, especially after it intrigued me that she preferred to sleep in a hammock outside. The chemistry between the two was a crazy push and pull that I couldn’t wait to see how they ended up together. I was also really thrown by the answers to all the questions I accumulated throughout the book. I was on the edge of my seat and it was an epic ending. As always, I love her books and can never get enough. They are the perfect amount of romance, suspense, flow, and length. Something I also love that she does is connect all the different series that she has. If you’ve read Boomtown, you would see a lot of familiar faces in her recent books, and I love that it’s a continuation of those characters in the background while giving us the stories of the next generation. I will continue to read every book she puts out and can’t wait to see where she goes next! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
