About the author

After a childhood in Birkenhead and Wales, Helen Foley spent ten years before and during WW II in Cambridge as an undergraduate and research student and in the Ministry of Information. She held several jobs since then, in a variety of places, and married an Army officer with whom she later moved to Scotland.
