Pretty sure this book came from Dad. We learned a lot today! Mom sounded out some interesting words and our favorite creature is by far the Purrgil! Who doesn’t love a space whale?
I can't really imagine a scenario where this would be read. It's so long and clunky and not very fun! There are definitely some fun (i.e. decent, not the frequently churned out 8x8's or easy readers) media tie-in books (Jeffrey Brown's Darth Vader and Son, the DC superhero picture books like Be a Star, Wonder Woman!, or Fresh Princess) but this isn't it. It's definitely not as bad as almost all the media tie-in junk, but the cute illustrations and tease of something better makes it a bit of a bummer. ALSO because of the title I expected there to be a little more of an emphasis on the Big/Small of it all, but that wasn't really a thing at all. All the animals were drawn in isolation so big and small are kind of meaningless.
I’m giving this an interesting. The illustrations are so cute and cuddly I couldn’t help but pick up this book. Each creature is introduced to the reader in a poem or a limerick. Many of these have a tough flow. And it is tough to rhyme space alien words, and the author did a decent job, but still not my favorite Star Wars book for young readers. #Wintergames #teamreadnosereindeer +16
I really liked this! The illustrations are flippin' great and of course they are when they're done by Katie Cook! Love her art. I learned a lot about the creatures of Star Wars and it was actually really nice learning about them. It's not written in the form of just straight up information. It's written as a poem of each creature or creatures and it rhymes! It's great!
Adorable pictures, funny little poems (some have an odd meter), and overall great idea. Spoilers, as there would kind of have to be with a book like this.
Wow! I learned a lot about Star Wars creatures!! I’m a Star Trek girl myself, so I don’t have the depth of knowledge regarding the Star Wars universe, so this was an excellent intro for me and Parker.
I was really impressed with this book’s vocabulary, different rhyming schemes, and absorbing illustrations. Parker made pterodactyl noises throughout (and it was fairly lengthy), a sure sign of satisfaction.
This book made me happier than it has any right to, but the poems are cute and the pictures delightful. I'm also pretty proud of myself because there weren't any creatures I didn't recognize, so I feel that my Star Wars cred has risen. I don't like that they call Loth-cats tookas, but it is an alternate name, so it's fair.
