A job, a true love, a baby, a cure. . . We’re all waiting for something from God. And the place between His answers can feel like a wasteland where dreams—and faith—go to die. When we’re waiting, we wonder, “Why?”, “Why me?”, and “How long?”
But the truth? . . . When God says, “Wait,” He doesn’t tell us for how long. When God says, “Wait,” we face one of life’s greatest tests. When God says, “Wait,” we have decisions to make. When God says, “Wait,” we can control only two how we wait, and who we become along the way.
Author Elizabeth Laing Thompson invites you to journal through your personal "wait" and come out on the other side with your faith, relationships, and sense of humor intact.
This lovely volume will encourage and inspire you in your wait--with meaningful devotional thoughts, scriptural truths, and thought-provoking journal prompts.

*REVIEW* 💖💖💖💖💖 I love journals of all shapes and sizes and purposes. I was super excited to have a look at this one because it's unique from the others I have. It's all about waiting time. Every person is waiting for something. How long do you have to wait, and why? Through journaling, it's easier to cope with situations we don't understand. It's all in God's timing, and it's no matter what we think about it. Waiting has purpose, though we know not what it is. It's frustrating to wait for just about anything, especially in the era of click and receive. This journal gives prompts to answer, along with quoted scripture. The questions presented are thoughtful and insightful, and the ideas are relevant. This journal will help in trusting God's timing while being okay with where you are now. I think the When God Says Wait Journal is an excellent tool for anyone's spiritual journey.

Book Review
This is the 1st book I have read by Elizabeth Laing Thompson. This book is a devotional and a Journal also. I really loved this book especially at this time of my life. You see, my husband is in a nursing home and has been really hard watching him everyday going downhill. This book hit the spot for me. Sometimes, you find yourself praying just let it be over, but GOD says NO, Debbie, just Wait and then his time will be with me. That is really hard to do at times. I just loved this book with all the devotional parts and also the journal part, where you can write your thoughts in the book. It was wonderful. This book is a really good book and hope you will pick it up and read it. This is all I am going to say on the review because I will ruin it for everyone who I know wants to read it. I would suggest this book to all my friends and family. Thank you Elizabeth Laing Thompson for giving us a Fantastic Book to read. Thank you to Barbour Publishing for giving me this opportunity to read this book and give my review.
If you journal during your devotional time, this book is perfect for you. Each day has two pages for you to journal in. Included on the first page is the Scripture verse. The second page is a brief devotional thought and then a devotional question for you. So, you can write what you feel about the verse and go to the next page and reflect on the devotional thought and then answer the question/s. You could spend as much time as you like with this as well and make it totally your quiet time. A very thought provoking book. Recommended.

The layout of this journal book is productive for the reader. First of all, it is a great gift to self or others. Second, it presents a piece of Scripture intended to help the reader during a waiting phase in their lives that has a purpose. The question of the day tends to center around character traits and actions that will enhance a Christian to be still and wait. I like that there is plenty of room to write one's thoughts. Not only that, it can be dated, and the person can go back later to see what progress has been made, or how God answered their question or fulfilled their desire. I like having a devotional journal for myself, because I don't always know the answers, and it helps to have Scripture to guide me to better understanding of who I really should be as a Christian.
What is not to love about this thought journal. The verses, commentary and reflection questions are just what is needed to keep our eyes on Jesus while process all the questioning, doubts, emotions, hurt, loneliness that we feel. I love how the author doesn't dismiss the emotions that are so prevalent in the waiting season but instead helps us the reader work through those emotions with the truth of God's Word. I myself being at the tail end of a 3+ year waiting period. I could so relate to the text and reflection questions. In fact, I found that I still had emotions that I thought I had dealt with that this journal helped me acknowledge.
One quote in particular that jumped out at me and jarred my thoughts was "sometimes we are waiting for the life we want, we forget to enjoy the life we already have". That thought rang so true with my heart. I ended up asking for forgiveness for not noticing and enjoying the blessings that are already mine. A reflection question that really caused me to pause was "As you wait, what insecurities are you facing in your walk with God? In your view of yourself?" What scriptures can help you control your insecurities". I don't know about you but I have found that waiting periods are breeding grounds for insecurity. So I love how this question caused me to call out my insecurities and to then wrap them in the grace of God's Word.
I highly recommend this book for yourself or someone you know who is walking in a period of waiting. This book will help keep your eyes on God while processing the thoughts and emotions that rear their ugly heads when we are waiting to see God move in our circumstances. Walking this journey in a way that honors God means we have to filter our thoughts and emotions through the truth of God's Word and that is where this thought journal comes into play. This journal will point out God's promises, build your hope, ground your faith, focus your thoughts and call you to worship in the waiting.
This book is worth the cost alone with just the 100+ promises, one for each day. For in times of waiting we must soak in God's promises to overcome the doubt and worry that becomes elevated in our minds. We start to feel like nothing will ever change so we need to be reminded that our hope is in God and that God keeps his promises. Otherwise we are tempted to pull away from God when in reality this is when we need to draw ever so closer to God, to gain his wisdom, his strength, his help.
This journal is very aesthetically pleasing - this thought journal is beautiful inside and outside. The outside is a maroon hardcover with a ribbon marker. And the internal journal pages have maroon shading around the edges. Over 100, 2 sided pages each has a verse on the left side and short lesson and journaling question on the right with lines on both side for reflection/journaling.
I'll share one more comment and reflection question that spoke to me personally. I love how this caused me to reconsider how I was viewing God during this period. As it is so easy to view God through tainted lenses when we feel like our life is on hold. "Waiting is not a punishment from God, it is a part of life. Everyone waits for things, even the most righteous people" "How does knowing that God is not angry with you, not punishing you, transform your view of God? your view of waiting?"
This journal would make a great Christmas gift idea for your Christian friends

When God Says Wait by Elizabeth Laing Thompson is a wonderful well written 5 star book. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. When God Says Wait, A Devotional Thought Journal by Elizabeth Laing Thompson is a hardcover prayer and thought devotional. The title caught my eye right off. My sweet mother is fond of reminding me that I “came 25 days early and have kept the pace up with not wanting to wait since then.”
Waiting is difficult, but the older I get the more patience I have acquired. This journal is a wonderful tool to work through waiting on things. I know often when I pray that I want and even expect immediate results. That seldom is God’s plan.
The journal is divided into two page sections. They feature scripture verses, a devotional thought, and a question designed to spur introspection and personal growth along with many line for writing. When open for use, the Scripture verse is at the top of the left page and the devotional thought with journal question is on the right page. This is opposite than most journals and devotional. That took me some time to overcome.
There is a ribbon bookmark which helped keep my place. The pages are a nice weight and my pen did not bleed through at all. I loved the rich color of the cover and the size is perfect. There are no dates or page numbers.
This is a companion journal to the book by the same name. However, anyone would benefit from using it. Writing thoughts, prayers, and feelings is a helpful way to express oneself. It keeps track for future reference, also.
I would recommend this to everyone. Journaling has become popular and for good reasons. It is a helpful addition to bible study and prayer time. It gets a 4.5 out of 5 stars. If they switch the two pages, I will change this to a 5 star. A copy was provided by the publisher but these are my honest thoughts.
When God Says Wait: A Devotional Thought Journal coordinates with Elizabeth Laing Thompson’s book, When God Says Wait. Although I have not read When God Says Wait, I did read through this entire journal and I was impressed by the thoughts and questions presented. The questions ring with the authenticity of someone who has walked a hard road, rather than simply observed others on the path.
Each two-page spread of When God Says Wait: A Devotional Thought Journal features a Scripture verses, a devotional thought, and a question designed to spur introspection and personal growth. When open for use, the Scripture verse is at the top of the left page and the devotional thought with journal question is on the right page. Maybe it’s just me, but I wish the pages were swapped with the question on the left page (since it's the first in the spread) and the supporting Scripture on the right. There’s plenty of room to write and a built-in bookmark to hold the page.
I would suggest going through this journal in order. Some topics are grouped together which I assume are correlated with When God Says Wait. A few examples: worship, rejecting lies, God’s character, prayer, friendship, and choosing joy. I recommend When God Says Wait: A Devotional Thought Journal to any woman in a season of waiting, which is probably most of us. Even without having read its companion book, the journal can provide great benefit to the user.

If you love devotionals and journals you will definitely love "When God Says Wait" as it is the best of both worlds. The book comes with a pretty pink attached bookmark and each devotional is made up of two pages, the left side is a Bible verse and journal space while the right side is the devotional and more journal space.
I found each devotional thought-provoking and there was plenty of room to journal. While the pages are not numbered, the ribbon marker is a nice addition to help you keep your place.
One devotion that caught my attention had the verses Isaiah 63:8-9 and the devotion reminded me about what I have told many people in the past...that we have a hole in our heart that only God can fill. Here is the devotion:
"People can never occupy the God-shaped space in our hearts, no matter how thoughtful or devoted or almost-perfect they are. When we try to get people (even siblings or parents or best friends for life or even the love of our life) to become our everything, they will always fall short. We will still be left lonely. Why? Because only God is meant to be our everything." "How do you feel when you seek from people the things that can only come from God? How can you more readily rely on God to be your everything"
I would highly recommend this devotional/journal to anyone, male or female, young or old.
On a 5 Star Scale - 5 Stars!!!!!

I'm grateful to have received a copy through a Goodreads giveaway. I finally cracked this open for more than a peek, as a pastime during quarantine. What better waiting time? I spent about a month going through it, page by page, and completing the journal entries. I definitely rushed through it in a frenzied need to get something done; however, I did try to take time to reflect on the prompts and do my research, as necessary.
Overall, I think that these prompts and scriptures can be applied to any period of wait. Rather than coming in pink and purple, it could be marketable not only to women.
My biggest critique: not all readers who are trying hard to find God and use this resource in their waiting seasons will have the scriptural knowledge to complete a handful of the prompts. The author often asks the reader to list applicable scriptures, but unless the reader already has an in-depth knowledge of scripture, this task is very difficult and not as useful as it would be if there were more guidance. Another handful of prompts give references to useful pieces of scripture, this is more useful to the majority of potential readers.
My biggest praises: timely and clever in its use of a digital waiting symbol. Many useful, applicable scriptures. Mostly thorough prompts and plenty of them! Provides challenges that are achievable.
Are you in a waiting period? A holding pattern where everything seems to have stagnated, nothing is happening the way you wish it were or think it should? There are many times in our Christian life when God asks us to wait on Him for answers. I find that waiting tough. I’m a get it done, tell me now, kind of person. Patience is not on my top ten list of virtues. But I found this journal to be helpful in writing out my thoughts and questions as I await His answers. The format, Scripture and thought-provoking writing leads me to lay out what’s going on inside my mind and heart while waiting for what I know to be God’s perfect timing (even if I might question the waiting process). Often, on the other side of the waiting I see and understand God’s reasons. Sometimes I don’t. But I know that He in His great wisdom has my best at heart. When I dwell on Jesus and not my circumstances, He teaches me more about Himself, and a closer relationship with Him results from spending time sharing my thoughts and prayers with the God who listens and moves on my behalf – even when it doesn’t happen on my timetable. It is not easy to wait! Waiting is very difficult for me even though I am always working on it. I've found this devotional thought journal to be perfect for me! Using a journal is good for the soul. Writing down thoughts is a way to reveal not only how we feel about a topic, but also how we think. Thinking is important. Writing in this journal has been a beautiful way to write my feelings, thoughts, ideas, and my urgent prayers. This book has plenty of space to write. On one page is a bible verse. On the opposite page is thought provoking paragraph which is followed by a question. I can write a few sentences or several paragraphs. My style is to go straight though the pages but it would be good to turn to a page that is applicable to my need at the time. The pages are not numbered so it is easy to set my own pace. I like that. This style of keeping a journal is wonderful!

Are you waiting on something? Sometimes when you pray for something, God doesn't say "yes" or "no" but "wait". And, for some, that's the hardest answer of all. I know it is for me because the wait seems like it will never end. We don't know how long God is asking us to wait.
Elizabeth Laing Thompson's new devotional thought journal, "When God Says Wait", helps us process our thoughts, shows us where God is working and helps us wait well.
Journaling through the wait helps us realize that we should be asking different questions or seeking new things. It helps us see why God has made us wait. When we look back on our waiting journey through this journal, we will see how we grew, what we learned and the importance of waiting on God's best.

This hardbound journal will encourage you in your spirit and mind as you wait. I’m not a patient person, and I know this is something I need to work on, so this title really caught my attention. I mean, when God says wait, I need to make it a point to listen and listen close. And as a Psalm says, Be still before the Lord and wait patiently…
Presented as a devotional thought journal,When God Says Wait is a place to journal and meditate during our waiting season—no matter what we’re waiting for. Each page opens with a Scripture verse or a devotional thought, and leaves plenty of space to write out thoughts. The textured hardback is sturdy, the pages are lined and lightly embellished, and a ribbon is attached as a bookmark.
This is an inspiring, sensible, pretty journal.

This is a beautiful journal from the color and texture of the cover to the sleek pages and plenty of room to journal your thoughts and feelings. Waiting is a hard journey for us and this journal gives insight to the journey and scripture to help us along the way. This would make a wonderful gift and when finished you will feel that you have grown in your Waiting Journey. Well done. Thank you to Barbour Publishing for a complimentary copy. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
Book is beautiful and has spacious areas to journal. Would make a fantastic gift for someone who is in a season of waiting in their life.
I am not in that place at this time so I did a few days of the devotions and found that they all do focus strictly on being in a "waiting on God" phase of life.
Also, I noticed the devotionals were a bit short. Mostly just a verse or two of scripture and a couple sentences. Leaves much room for your own interpretation. I prefer a bit meatier subject material.
Barbour Publishing puts out the best journals. Ms. Thompson's journal is gorgeous and well thought out. As usual, I intend to gift it out. I love journals that have hard covers, because they seem to last longer. The pages are crisp and there is plenty of room to write down your thoughts. I highly recommend this journal.

A great journal for those in a period of waiting for anything that you may have or be praying on. The book has a bible verse on the right page with space to reflect and on the left page questions that are thought provocative and meaningful. Set your own pace and you can skip around if a certain Bible verse calls to you. I am thoroughly enjoying this journal
