How can smart people stay sane and productive when their bosses are toxic, rude, or just plain dumb? Solutions abound in this essential book. William and Kathleen Lundin, featured on National Public Radio's Marketplace, are widely acknowledged as experts on bringing a better quality of life to today's beleaguered workplace. Using the popular co-dependence model, this new paperback edition provides valuable therapeutic/psychological strategies for handling all-too-typical problems and creating a more healthy and functional organization.
I was curious what a book like this had to say. A lot of common sense and no helpful or interesting insights to help the reader navigate tough work environments. Or even insights for leaders as to how to avoid some common pitfalls of leadership.
the voice of this book is almost like having a conversation with a drunk person: over assuming in informality, ideas running together in garbled sentences, and absolutely no filter. the value in this book to me was in the life stories-hearing others' experiences is just helpful, so you don't feel alone the first couple times you get stepped on. it can make you feel empowered-as though things could possibly change.
however, in terms of eloquence or prescription, this book is almost devoid of either. I can't recommend it, but I also don't regret reading until the end. 'cheers' to playing the game (of work politics).
Every intelligent person should buy this book to place on or near their desk at work - when applicable. Of course, this is one of the few books I ever bought where I have no intention of ever reading!
