A sequel to 'South Southeast', this is a selection of Steve McCurry's portraits from South and Southeast Asia. It features a range of photographs with brief captions and a short essay introduces the book.
Steve McCurry is an American photographer, freelancer, and photojournalist. His photo Afghan Girl, of a girl with piercing green eyes, has appeared on the cover of National Geographic several times. McCurry has photographed many assignments for National Geographic and has been a member of Magnum Photos since 1986. McCurry is the recipient of numerous awards, including Magazine Photographer of the Year, awarded by the National Press Photographers Association; the Royal Photographic Society's Centenary Medal; and two first-place prizes in the World Press Photo contest (1985 and 1992).
Steve McCurry is my favorite photographer, and this large format book is an absolute visual feast. The portraits have an amazing visceral quality and a shimmering beauty, not from fancy effects or digital manipulation, but rather from the raw power and truth emanating from the gorgeous subjects themselves. I love it.
My sister Taryn gave us this book for Christmas and it is really cool. It is full of amazingly gorgeous portraits of people from South and Southeast Asia (Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Pakistan, and Tibet.) Definatley one of my favorite photography books.
