Eist has recovered from her last brush with death and Fior is finally learning to fly. Everything should be peachy now, right? Unfortunately, the forces of evil are growing stronger and there may be nothing standing in their way. Can Eist and her friends steer clear or will they be ambushed before they are ready?

I read this as included in the Brindle Dragon Boxed Set: Complete Series – Books 1-9 (Each book is novella serial-sized)
Eist has returned for another year and after the encounter with the man from the previous book, she knows that there is something looming that all of the elder dragon riders seem determined to hide from the students. This time, she has noticed all of her friends have been doing some growing over the summer. The boys all seem to be sharing some secret that they haven’t let Eist in on, giving her strange looks. And Yachrist makes a special point of asking her to his name day celebration, and grudgingly inviting the others along with her. After sneaking away from the celebration, Eist is drawn with her witch’s eyes through the dusty unused rooms of the palace, and finds that Dille has a commanding magic within her. And they face down the man who terrorized Eist at the end of the previous book, but this time as a group, and uncover an evil plot that may involve the dreaded Blight threatening the entire country.
Though it took me a bit of time for Eist to grow on me, this series has become a wonderful adventure series. Think along the lines of How to Train Your Dragon meets Harry Potter. Though this one didn’t focus on Eist and her dragon Fior’s relationship as much. I missed all of the cute moments from the previous book, like learning to feed Fior, and him stealing trinkets from other students during the night. This time, the focus was mainly on how the boys seem to be outpacing Eist on the coming-of-age phase. Eist seems to have gone a bit stagnant, while all of the others have been doing growing around her, from Dille with her new found hidden things she’s still discovering she can do and feel, to Yachrist, Ain, and Athar all jockeying for time spent with Eist and who can get the closest to her. Eist has noticed it a bit, though doesn’t really understand it, and seems to be drawn to all of them (I really hope this doesn’t go into reverse harem direction). I do love that each of the characters has their own personality and they aren’t interchangeable. This installment had action, adventure, and even trying to fight without any real weapons in hand. And it went into battle several times against overwhelming forces. And though it felt a bit preachy, I liked that it tried to drive home the idea that Eist needed to learn that she had friends to lean on, and they didn’t want her to fight on her own, and they didn’t like that she charges headfirst into things, leaving them behind.
I really like this series so far. The have an excellent plot and characters. The baseline is well written.
The only issue I have so far are the minor spelling and grammatical errors that I would love to fix as I read. I see so many books on KU that would be great if they didn't have so many errors. You can't just use Word spell check on books. It never catches everything. Most common are though and through, were and where, etc. Sometimes it's added words that you actually meant to remove or doubled up. Most common doubled is that. There is a time to use 'that' doubled, but there is one in here that is not meant to be.
I believe you have a fantastic talent and would love to purchase your books; unfortunately, I refuse to buy any that have errors in them. Edit, recheck, and combine and you'll definitely sell more.
Constructive criticism is one of the best tools offered. Take it as a compliment that will help you grow and flourish.
Don't rely on a publisher asking people to read and review while begging them to advise of errors. Most people won't remember all of them by the time they complete the book. Getting someone to edit your book would be best; but, make sure they actually read it while they mark it up.
With as many pages as these books have, you can easily combine them to 3-5 books.
This is book #4 of the Brindle Dragon saga. In this one, Eist and her fellow third-year students from the academy are growing and maturing as students will. Now Eist has 4 friends that all gather around her. It becomes time for the students to break into small groups and go off into the wilderness and try to survive for three weeks under the tutelage of two experienced dragon riders. Eist's dragon Fior is still small for his age, but he is rapidly reaching the point where she has trouble picking him up. Some of the other fledgling dragons are almost big enough to carry riders. Not far into their stay in the wilderness, the entire group is ambushed, just as the title of the book states. Eist and Dille become the leaders of the resistance, so to speak. The book has plenty of action in it. I really liked reading it and I think you will too.
Three years into their studies the dragon riders are approaching maturity, changing physically and mentally. Eist is still not completely recovered from her wounds (which, as she notes, always happen at the end of the academic year – and at the end of each book.) As part of their studies there is trek into the wilderness to test their survival skills and it is at this point that the title makes sense. “Ambush” see Eist and her friends face those who would bring back the Blight and it is not clear which way the struggle will go, The magical book re-appears as a second one is found - officially magic doesn't exist but it is becoming increasingly clear that only magic can fight the Blight. One oddity about the series is that while the editing is quite good each book contains at least one howler. 3 Stars.
Summary: Simple coming of age type book, potential for better things so I'll keep going in this series, not sure about dragons. We'll see. Some of the characters are a bit 2 dimensional. Book 4 continues the theme, a bit more on magic and the blight
Plotline: Very simple plot for this first, very short, book. Ditto book4
Premise: Dragons. Magic and the blight...
Writing: Simple, descriptive, light
Ending: Well highly predictable, title gives it away really.
It's year 3 of Dragon Rider Academy and Eist has recovered from her newest set of injuries...sort of. Training is getting more intense with an advancement to blunted swords. Not able to do as much damage, but it's a step in the right direction. Friendships grow, as do most of the dragonlets and their riders. A gala party to celebrate Yacrist's name day ends very unexpectedly for the friends, and an excursion--more like a camping trip where the students are to learn survival skills--ends tragically for quite a few. The action in this book is amazing!
More adventure with Eist ,Fior, their friends and their dragons
It's an entertaining series. Filled with action, adventure and deadly peril. Follow the 5 friends as they train to become dragon riders, to grow from young teens to young adults, with the romantic stress that comes with age. Someone is still out there trying to return a great evil to their world and they maybe the only ones believing there is a danger.
I have finished the first four books in this series. I did not expect to enjoy it but I did. The main character is a young woman who has disabilities and successfully over comes them a little at a time. She is a force in her own right and slowly realisers she has friends she can rely on. The action when it happens is good. This is a very YA book but surprisingly well written and fun to read.
The Brindle Dragon series is the best set of books on dragons since Anne MS affects Dragon riders of Pern. I have waited for years to find books like Jada Fisher has given us. These characters fly into your imagination and take root. Young people learning to raise dragons and discover their talents is amazing. I am on book four and if you love dragon stories you need to start reading right away.
Oh yes this series just gets better with every single book.. they are quick to medium reads so if you are a big reader you should get 3books at a time or more. Since you’re going to want the next book as soon as possible that plan will be perfect. Jada fisher has created an “Eragon” worthy series for younger readers . However still a great read for an adult reader like me.
I has become very difficult to continue my favorites for the 2025 Fall Season because of this book series. I can almost picture myself being apart of these characters. For many years I put aside my "Unique Love of Dragons" to bring myself to other book reads or subjects. However, Jada Fisher has thoroughly revived my interests. The characters are so fluid and interesting, not counting the various types of dragons.
With each book in this series it becomes more difficult to stop reading. I find this series to be interesting and each book in turn draws the reader in to this fantastic world. So much so that I just don't want to be bothered by mundane things like answering the door or even stopping to eat. Great work! Keep it up Jada!
This is a great story and has outstanding characters which I love. Them coming of age and growing as individuals makes the telling of this story even better. Other than that little blup with the short story not being listed (cause it was a continuation of the story and was not any where to be found), this is an outstanding series. Great Reading Everyone!
I loved all the action packed into this book! It was good to see the five main characters final form a unit. I wish there was another year, it would have been nice to hear what the white Dragon counsel had to say about what happened and how things ended with the riders.
I do enjoy reading books about dragons and their youngling bonded. These 4 books that I read in one day (!) are by far one of the best in this genre. It's five stars all the way.
This cannot be the end? NO, There has to be so much more Good against evil. I anticipate much more good reading! This a well written series that will hold YOU CAPTIVE! READ ON!
This author has a wild imagination .Very good as you follow these books.I enjoy the build of what is happening. The characters are spot on with courage & determination. On to the next book.
So a short still but more of plot is dropping. Our girl is slowly learning her power she only needs to accept it. However the blight is still after her but his time she has friends. Looking for the next book.
This series just keeps getting better and better. I’m enjoying the interplay between the protagonists. The menace is convincing, and the developing abilities of the characters and their dragons just keep coming.
The action is fast, unexpected at times and totally awesome. Eist and Fior are both getting stronger and this time they are not losing. Join the gang and lose yourself in their adventure. Highly recommended.
Third Year. Healing and catching up on studies & training are on the agenda for Eist. As well as many discoveries about herself, her friends, and her world. The end of year Expedition goes spectacularly array.
Halfway though, and she faced her first battle and is emerging as a real leader. I like how she is revealing information more and more in a more understandable and reasonable rate
I'm caught up in the excitement and suspense and can't wait for the next book!!!😀 What a wonderful series!!!!☺ When is the next book coming out??? Soon, I hope!!!☺
I would never have read this, and do not recommend it, if not for unlimited. It is one of those very partial chunked up novels popular on the Amazon platform.
