Being a mythical bird of legend should be exciting.

Yet, for Katelyn, it wasn't so. Being a phoenix was more of a curse than a blessing for her. Forced to leave her family home for the protection of her kind, she thought she’d found her Prince Charming, until, once again, events turned her world upside down.

Now, she's alone in the biggest city in the UK, wanting more than to simply survive. Katelyn's yearning to live.

But her life will never be that simple…

Calling on the new London branch of the Paranormal Security Service, she rests all her hopes, as well as her life, on one dark, brooding shifter.

Will he be the one to offer Katelyn her most precious desire?

Freedom.

I love paranormal books that are done right and Guarding Katelyn does it right! This short story packs a lot into its pages and sets up a promising Paranormal series.

Katelyn is in danger. She is a very sort after Para that is being chased by a demon that she thought she could trust. Trent is drawn to Katelyn and his first instinct is to protect.

I really enjoyed how this series was set up in Guarding Katelyn. It does this in the way that it paints a detailed picture without giving away too much of future storylines. The paranormal aspect was perfectly balanced with reality in my opinion. There is enough supernatural to make it interesting, but not too much to make it weird and totally unbelievable. I am looking forward to future books that may explore human/para interactions more that Guarding Katelyn did.

At times the storyline was a bit predictable, however, the action, sexual chemistry and humorous banter compensate for this and make it a must read for fans of paranormal romance.

In a world where Paranormals are outed, The Phoenix is the most endangered. All the fables are true. So, Katelyn is more careful than ever to keep what kind of shifter she is hidden. When her ex finds her again, she has to run. So she goes to the Paranormal Protection Services, after being met with an unhelpful receptionist her hopes are diminished.
Trent, just moved to London from the US. When he hears the desperation in Katelyn's voice and the dismissive way the receptionist speaks to her, he steps in. At first sight there is instant attraction. After hearing her out he knows there is nothing her wont do to protect her.

Loved this short story about Katelyn and Trent, she is a tiny Pheonix where Trent is a huge Gargoyle but the chemistry between this couple is panty melting HOT!.

Katelyn is on the run from her past relationship that was build on lies as he was a demon and is hunting her for her tears, hair and feathers to sell on the black market,so she trusts no one until she is forced to go to the Paranormal Security Series for protections.

This is where she met Trent and right from the off there is something about him that calls to her as he is huge, protective and possessive and tells her he will keep her safe from them that are hunting her,he is just what she needed and starts to feel safe around him.

This was a hot and steamy read and i can't wait for more from this series.Loved it.

Thompson is one of the reasons I adore PNR

Thompson's start for the P.S.S. series with Guarding Katelyn is great! I read it in one sitting. Loved the element of mystery and suspense, love and *fans self* steaminess. The characters chemistry was really, really good. Trent is soooooo swoon worthy. I am super excited to see what comes next in this series.

Yes, yes, yes, oh, YES!

J Thompson has done it again my lovelies. I was beyond excited to start her brand new series and it didn’t let me down. It gave me all the feels, just like the Soul Mate series.

The Paranormal Security Service is newly being set up, and heading it up, is Trent.
When a paranormal being (our leading lady, Katelyn) ask for his help, without question, he helps, even without full knowledge of who or what she is, and the journey this pair go on in protecting their true paranormal selves, opens up so much more...

Excerpt:
Trent had been searching his whole life for a home, a place to belong. He jut never realised that maybe he had been looking at it all wrong from the start.
Home for home wasn’t a place, it was a woman.
A strong, beautiful redhead who called to his monster instead of running from it.

A fascinating and fresh magical/mystical story (which seemed like a shorter too) for paranormal fans out there, bringing so many fresh faces and aspects to paranormal I simply never expected. I see the Paranormal Security Service series being one I will cherish forever.

J Thompson has outdone herself again!

Excerpt:
She may have run away a frightened little bird, but she wasn’t anymore....****keeping a bit secret here to make spoiler free!!***** Katelyn would not go down without a fight. Even if it killed her.

I was so excited to read this and glad that I got a to. This was my first book from this author and will not be my last. This also had me at Gargoyle….just sayin.

Katelyn is a Phoenix and they are hunted all the time by their own kind for the black market, poor girl. So she is on the run from her ex, who happens to be a demon and she had no idea while she was dating him, until he tried to lock her up. She goes to PSS for help, where she meets Trent, the ½ Gargoyle hybrid...yup…so freaking cool. He immediately is very protective of her and takes her to his home to protect her *wags eyebrows*. He protects and saves her, when he taps into his other side...he is kind of a badass when he taps into his demon side and finally realizes what kind of demon he is.

This was a safe read, mates, no ow drama, the om drama from her ex, but since he is trying to capture and sell her..he is null and void in Sue’s world. We get a badass Gargoyle demon hybrid, a sweet Phoenix and a few other kick ass paranormals. There were a few wording/phrases that I was like...hhmmm, not quite sure about that wording, but overall I really enjoyed the book. No epilogue, which I would have loved to read with these two, and an hfn.

A solid 4 and a half stars!!
This was a great start to what I hope is a new series. There were great supporting characters and a new world where paranormals have 'come out' to the humans, with the foundations laid in this story for the continuation of a great series. Set in London, Katelyn has been in hiding for most of her life, however for the last six months she has been on the run from her ex-boyfriend, who wants to use her bird for unscrupulous gains. As a phoenix shifter she is magic personified, and due to the black-market for all things paranormal she is a wanted commodity. Once she realises she has been found again, she decides to seek help from the Paranormal Security Service. This is where she meets Trent. Trent is a Gargoyle hybrid, and right from their very first meeting the sparks fly. This was a well written and easy to read story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend this to anyone who loves fated-mates, action and a whole lot of steam.

This short story is the first book in a new paranormal series for this author and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s gritty and mysterious . I love Trent and Katelyn and the whole descriptiveness of who they are and you could clearly envision them in front of you... Who would have thought a Phoenix and a Gargoyle/Demon would be soul mates, you wouldn’t think their dynamics would work together but they do. I loved the whole mystery surrounding who/what Suzanne is and her whole dynamic with Mike and I’m hoping they get a story. I really enjoyed the plot and I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here.

Super Hot and Sexy!!

Intense, suspenseful and super sexy! Katelyn is a great character and Tate (in my mind) is super hot and sexy.  The pair of them together create such intense sexual chemistry that I was holding my breath just waiting for something awesome to happen.  Which is does – thank goodness.  J. Thompson definitely knows how to write in a way that keeps the reader fully engaged with the story.

Once I started reading I could not stop! I actually wanted to story to keep going as the chemistry between the two MC’s was so hot and intense.

Great book. Must read. Loved it.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. Katelyn is a phoenix and being hunted by her ex who was a bad demon. She hires the paranormal security serves to give her some protection. She begins to think that she cannot get any help when Trent agrees to aid her. They have an instant attraction between them. A phoenix and a gargoyle make quite the pair after all. This is the first book I have read by this author and enjoyed the storyline and characters

Katelyn and Trent will steal your heart. She's tiny, sweet, innocent and beginning to stand up for herself. He's huge, protective, dominating and possessive. A fast read that pulls you right from the beginning and leaves you wanting to know where the story goes.
My only downside to the book is there isn't enough backstory for the characters to truly understand the levity of their paranormal sides.
Will definitely be looking forward to more books by J Thompson.

Katelyn is alone and in danger. She made a bad choice and it is haunting her. One man is determined to keep her safe.

It is a good story. I felt really bad for Katelyn as she and her family have to live such an isolated life to keep them safe. She trusted one person and he was not what he seemed. I was happy that she found someone who really wanted to keep her safe from harm. He was just what she needed. They make a great couple.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

Very well written book. The story flowed well and in typical J Thompson style. Plenty of action. Loved her character descriptions and her comparisons (read the book you'll see what I mean 😉). Had all the elements a PNR book needs and more. I couldn't put it down. Would highly recommend this or any other book written by this author. Katelyn was well written and not the typical damsel in distress (no spoiler alert the clue is in the title) as for trent hes every woman's dream and more.

So what to say about Katelyn and Trent and their story. Well for one it was hot, steamy and edible. No spoilers but when I say fire is good I mean GOOD. Also I need to read more about the others we met. Mike and the rest of the men. Suzanna but won’t lie I can forget all about Margi. Her I love to hate! No one gets to be mean to Katelyn. No one.

Trent was a hybrid shifter and worked at a paranormal security agency. Katelyn was being hunted for what she was by a couple of demons to be sold on the black market. She went to the agency for protection, she also found her mate in Trent. After the bad guys were taken care of, they were mated! Action packed and a great book! Loved it!

The first book in the Paranormal Security Service series a well written story that held my interest until the end. The line I liked in this story was" Whoever thought a gargoyle would catch a phoenix…" I enjoyed reading Katelyn and Trent's story. Reading the entire book felt like I was reading a few chapters in what should've been a much larger, fleshed out novel. This book felt more like a prologue to a series - there was a very large looming issue that would impact the relationship between the H & H; yet was never addressed.
