Parr is under siege. A riot broke out in the palace. The Emperor is on the move.
Queen Gwyneth Jada seems to be facing insurmountable odds as the Devinian hordes descend on Parr. Emperor Nicholas is coming for her throne personally, intent on making Rodasia part of his vast Empire. Yet shocking news brings hope: Lacy is not the only Shade. But Gwen isn't sure the small army of brand-new Shades will be enough to turn the tide of the war.
When tragedy strikes, Gwen is once again fleeing for her life. She refuses to give up, and with help coming from an unlikely source, Gwen must choose between conceding to Devin, or fighting for Rodasia's freedom. With Jakob trapped in Parr, Charles and Lacy making a last ditch effort to stop the Emperor, and Thomas Stout by her side, Gwen fights to maintain hope that the war won't destroy her beloved country.
The Rodasia Chronicles wraps up with The Shade War from bestselling author Janelle Garrett.
I can't say enough about this series as a whole. Garrett is incredibly talented, and I've read through all her books like wildfire.
The Shade War was an enjoyable read. I really liked how it ended, and the story was deep, the characters continued to grow and expand. There were particular elements and certain scenes that left me in awe. It felt like I was really there. At one point, Jakob's story was so engrossing I was moved to tears. He is one of my favorite characters in any book, ever. Not just Garrett's characters.
Basically, you need to read this series now, especially fantasy readers, historical fiction fans, and Christian fiction readers. You won't be disappointed by an stretch of the imagination.
Loved the conclusion of the The Rodasia Chronicles. It still held my attention right to the end. Action, suspense, romance, unrequited love. I love the whole shadowing/nod to the Biblical story running through out the story from the get go.
When her kingdom is being overtaken by a tyrant, Gwen as Queen doesn’t want to hide. She feels guilty for being forced to take refuge underground but circumstances change her direction. She finds herself in several pickling situations that should’ve ended in death. But her loss of countrymen and those close to her is great; how will she ever survive? While reading this book I’ve come upon the last section that answers many questions. Who wins? What happens to Gwen and her rule? Will she and Charles be more than friends? Will Jeremiah’s gospel flourish or flounder? Will Gwen ever believe in God? This is an excellent Christian based series written for all ages and a must read!
An epic conclusion to a grand trilogy, although there are a couple of plot threads that I wish were wrapped up more or at all. I was able to take some of the quotes from this book and use them as fodder for discussion with my family. There's a lot in this book that gives cause for reflection.
