How does the saying go? Don’t judge a book by its cover, well that is how I felt after reading this set of books. Historical romance is not a normal style that I would choose to read. I had my mind set that I was not going to enjoy this book, I thought I would get bored because it was not based in the modern day.
Let me tell you how wrong I was and how I truly enjoyed this series. The story had adventure, great friends, family stories of power, love and betrayal. One never knows where you will find love and in the case of prearranged marriages, you don’t always see what is right for you until you are forced to live that life.
This book has changed my view on Historical Romance. Thank You Golden Angel for such an amazing read. She has done an amazing job of showing 4 couples with different stories of love and marriage. The go through the good and the bad and each one tells their own story of how they managed to survive.
If you are into Historical Romance this is a great series to read. If you are skeptical about historical romance like I was, please take the time and give this series a chance, I promise you will not be disappointed.

Not for me
The serial just didn't work for me. The father punished his daughter bare bottomed while her brother and friends watched. Then, a year later, the father arranged a forced and immediate marriage to one of the friends who had been using her for fantasy material. The husband takes over where her father left off, but it somehow becomes erotic?

I just finished this quartet of books and it was such an enjoyable endeavor. Set in Victorian times, these aristocratic friends have allowed us into their lives and revealed their most secret thoughts and actions. Golden Angel has given us an in-depth glimpse at a world where domestic discipline was as common place for some households as the air they breathed, and yet, others were shocked and scandalized once learned of it. The results? Wait until you get to know these four couples and follow them on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Ones filled with self-doubt and pride, pain and pleasure, love and hate. It will leave you breathless throughout the telling until you too, like me, sigh at the end.

This eBook collects all 4 novels in the Domestic Discipline Quartet. I've reviewed each separately; titles in bold, italics.
In the prologue, lifelong friends Hugh, Edwin, and Wesley witness Hugh's sister Eleanor being birched. Edwin and Wesley find this experience extremely erotic, while Hugh takes it as an opportunity to lecture his friends on the necessity of disciplining their womenfolk. Each book then follows the men's first-hand experiences with spanking, strapping, birching, and other erotic (and not so erotic) impact discipline practices.
Birching His Bride
Edwin looks forward to taking his bride, the unruly Lady Eleanor, in hand after they’re married shortly following Eleanor’s debut.
Set in an indeterminate historical period, this novel kicks off the interconnected Domestic Discipline series.
Overall, it’s clunky but steamy, and the spanking sequences enhance the steaminess.

The second book in the quartet adds two more POV characters, Eleanor’s brother, Hugh (Viscount Petersham,) and his bride, Irene. Theirs is a marriage of necessity - Irene’s dowry is land that adjoins Hugh’s holdings; the alliance grants the couple’s parents several advantages.
Irene is timid and withdrawing, so Hugh surmises he won’t need to introduce spanking, but as Irene comes out of her shell, so too does her confidence ...and rebellion.
This novel was quite head-hoppy (not a negative) but also frustratingly paced ... and the check-ins with Edwin & Eleanor delayed the action between Hugh and Irene. The subplot between Irene and her childhood crush, Alex, felt true to her character but shoehorned in to set up Alex’s book. Waiting two books for the payoff was ... unsatisfying.

Wesley has been abroad for most of the past decade, so he missed his mother taking on a ward, the delightful, and disobedient, Cynthia. When Cynthia literally runs into his chest, she has no idea what she’s in for from the Earl of Spencer!
Wesley and Cynthia are very earthy, very horny beings whose push-and-pull, denial of attraction pairing makes for some high-steam bedroom scenes.
At this point, a more skilled writer could have worked an 8-strand braid more expertly than Golden Angel does, but her lack of skill is more than made up for in high-heat bondage & birching.
Claiming His Wife
In the weeks leading up to Wesley & Cynthia’s wedding in Bath, and the fallout from Irene’s social misstep in London, Alex has been working to win back his wife, Grace, who’s been earning a scandalous reputation over the past seven years thanks to an offhand comment Alex barely remembers having made.
This is the novel that manages to weave all 4 stories together, while still providing substantial tension and second-chance romance plot for Alex & Grace.
However, between the head-hoppiness and the flickering back and forth between the main story & Eleanor’s passive-aggressive attempts to get Edwin to tell her he loves her, it’s ... a mess.
Was it messy enough to put me off reading more Golden Angel novels? No.
But I will proceed with caution.

Not in this version of England, it would seem.
Disabled characters?
Not a one! Not even a parent or sibling or friend!
GLITTFAB/Queer characters?
You know, now I think about it, perhaps Matthew, the younger brother of Wesley, might be so keen to get into the army because he’s gay.
PERHAPS.
Yeah, no GLITTFAB folx here.
Worth my time?
These books are LONG.
It took me about 8 days to read this chonky hunk of hotness, & I only put it down a couple of times. I don’t regret it, but I wouldn’t be upset if the fat were trimmed a little harder by the editing team.
Some of the sex, while very well written, got a little repetitive. Some small interactions weren’t entirely necessary to drive the plot, & cutting them out would help with the pacing.
The time-frame of these books also created confusion. It wasn’t clear when the story was set, so it was hard to envision the clothing & spaces used throughout. Clothing changed so much across the 18th century, & even more changes came in the 19th. A clearer timeframe makes for a much smoother reading experience.
The changes in Point of View were also a bit wibbly. Sometimes, the transition was smooth & natural, whereas at other times, it took a bit of uncomfortable searching to work out who I was riding double with.
Re-read?
It’s not going to make the top of my list of re-reads, but it’s certainly going on the pile. I did wring a huge amount of enjoyment out of these books, enough to throw my reviewing schedule waaaaay off track!
Despite the occasional miss when changing POV, I really enjoy books - particularly smutty books - with multiple angles. I feel it adds a lot of depth to the characters as well as the narrative.
Recommend?
To lovers of historical romances, those who enjoy some pain with their pleasure, those who enjoy well written sex & multiple points of view.

A little bit of discipline and kink
Golden has combined her four stories from the Domestic Discipline series into a box set quartet. It was lighthearted, kinky and a totally enjoyable read. All four coupes are interconnected through family and friendship. This is Victorian depravity at its very best.
Birching The Bride
Eleanor and Edwin have known each other since childhood. He's not exactly the man Eleanor would have chosen to marry, but she had no say in the matter. Absolutely loved the sensuality and the steaminess of this book. Naughty girl gets her discipline.
Dealing With Discipline
Eleanor's feelings toward Edwin begin to grow, she has fallen in love with him. Is her love reciprocated? Irene and Hugh also feature in this one, although their relationship s the total opposite. They are a lot sweeter ... but spankings are definitely still are the order of the day.
Punishing His Ward
Wesley has returned home to claim his birth rite and to sort of his new ward, Cynthia. What he least expects to find is a stunning beauty who has been running amok. He decides there is only one way in which to handle the situation and boy do the sparks fly. Eleanor and Edwin's tumultuous relationship continues as does Hugh and Irene's sweet one.
Claiming His Wife
Finally the story I have been waiting for ... Alex and Grace. Alex desperately wants what his three friends have, but is Grace willing to let go of the past and accept a future with him? Eleanor finally hears what she needs from Edwin, Hugh and Irene are still blissfully happy and Wesley and Cynthia are to be married. Four men and four women learning that being together and loved was all that they needed.
I loved this series. It was a very easy read and gave me quite a few giggles along the way. Golden has beautifully written four very sexy and kinky stories that will keep you happily entertained. Definitely a recommended read.

I really enjoyed having this as a box set and in order to read right the way through. Each book goes seamlessly into the other which I loved.
The idea of domestic discipline was quite jarring at the beginning but as I immersed myself into the era it was written in I was able to enjoy the stories that included the discipline in them.
All of the stories were interlinked with the others which made the flow of the book more interesting.
All of the husbands were firm but fair and their wives knew what would happen if they crossed the line with their husbands. There was plenty of spicy times in each of the individual stories so if you are faint of heart this might not be for you but if you love interesting and humorous plots and spicy scenes with discipline handed out when needed and spanking for pleasure as well then this could be the box set for you!

I'm glad I got this as a box set, as Eleanor and Edwin's story starts in book 1 and continues over the rest of them. Instead of the usual each self-contained story they build and overlap. But introducing each couple in their own book gave me enough to care about each one and not overwhelm me with trying to keep characters straight.
I loved all the characters, but Grace and Alex were the ones I was least invested in, although I was still rooting for them and their reconciliation in their book.
Golden Angel is one of my favorite authors and this book set did not disappoint. Good story, good characters, and good sex scenes.

This is one of those books I would have appreciated more in print. Something about reading ebooks interferes with my ability to feel the continuity in a story. That said, I thought this was a creative take on both historical and erotic romance. I don’t read much historical romance (not enough time for everything), so I enjoyed reading about the social ins and outs. And it was entertaining to be regularly reminded that these characters were humans with the same wants and needs as modern day folks.

Four intertwined stories that start with Edwin and Eleanor, add Hugh and Irene, Wesley and Cynthia, and finally add in Alex and Grace. Think of this set as very adult Regency tales filled with balls, domestic drama, and intrigue complete with power plays on both sides, you may want to give these volumes a try. The stories are available separately, but be sure to read them in order for the most enjoyment and least confusion!

S&M with Wives Subjected to Husbands Will
This is a well written set of 4 books that follow 4 men as they marry and slowly develop happy marriages advising each other on strategies to train their brides to be obedient wives. It's somewhat amusing but very old fashioned perhaps appropriate for the 1900's when this occurred. I gave it a 3 star rating because it was so short sided in terms of the roles of men versus women.

This is definitely a series to read. You won't get the full story of the couples in one book as you get a little of each of them in each book. Each book doesn't necessarily leave you hanging so I had no problem taking a brake and returning to the series between reading other books. Some would say it's not a 5* if you're able to put it down but the author's writing allowed for a smooth interesting read and I wanted to complete the series.

Great characters and follow through
These stories are woven together with each building more in the characters story. Each couple had a different style which leads to many different options and a good mix for reading. Everyone has a HEA. I read these as a set but each book has a happy for now end if you read separately. Borrowed with Kindle unlimited.

4 great stories!
I don't know how she did it. 4 couples... from the second book on she balances two or more couples per boom. By the last there are 4 couples to reconcile simultaneously and it's an amazing feat she accomplished beautifully. Really great dynamics. Very good writing. Highly recommend the time it takes to binge read.

OMGosh, OMGosh, OMGosh!!!! Each and every book... 😍😍😍
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from the first page until the very last. It has been a very rare occurrence that I could just pick up a book and read it in one day; but, I was captivated by these characters and their amazing love story instantaneously.

I have to say I like a bit of bdsm in the novels I read nothing too heavy but enjoyable just the same .
However when read in a box set like this there is only so many times and ways yo can spank a bottom before you give up. But I did it .
If all you want from a story is discipline then these stories are for you enjoy

4 Lords, 4 Ladies
These were good stories, although for me , once I read what the Lords goals were with their unruly ladies, to spank them of course lost some of it's charm for me, there for alittle spend reading was used. But you'll be happy to know that all the Lord's found their perfect match.

The Domestic Discipline
This was absolutely amazing so exciting the character were awesome with lots of discipline lot of spankings and oh so sexy. And the ladies were a riot of fun.

Out standing
Truly an outstanding story. Loved how it was 4 stories woven together. I read these after read the next 2 series.. may just read Philips story again.. and all the others. Love them all.

Oh My, Ouch
This series definitely will keep your eyes flying over the pages. Who knew a group of friends would all marry/reconcile within one year. They all had one predilection they craved and so did their women. Not for the weak of heart.

Different than anything I've read before , but I found myself enjoying some of the things the women did to deliberately get into trouble with their men.

A VERY enjoyable collection
Having the four books in a single volume made the reading more enjoyable because the stories of the four couples are so entwined. Quite a wonderful read.
