*edited to add that I get a little bit long winded toward the middle of the review but there is a TLDR at the bottom if you scroll. A lot.*
Chloe is just a regular girl living in a supernatural world.
Except, she isn't.
Chloe spent her early life working her ass off to get into an ivy league school. She got great grades, ran track, participated in clubs, never ratted out her dad for keeping dead bodies stashed in the basement....
Wait.
Yeah... that one may need an explanation.
We start Chloe's story several years after dear old dad has been sent off to the slammer as a convicted serial killer. Her big brother ran off when shit hit the fan leaving her to hold... well, the bag of stinky shit. She sold her family's house & gave the money to the families of her father's victims, gave up on her dream of going away to a fancy college & opted for an online degree, and packed up her things & got the hell out of dodge (actually, Colorado, but whatever). She moved to New Orleans where there is a large supernatural community because it turns out supes are a little more welcoming to people who happen to be the offspring of a cannibalistic torturous lunatic. I mean, hey, murderers sometimes end up in your family tree when you are related to witches, vampires and werewolves. It happens. Chloe gets a job as a waitress at a popular supernatural bar and has new aspirations of moving up to middle management. Talk about lowering your personal expectations, but she's good with numbers, likes people, and enjoys customer service. When daddy is a psycho I guess it's normal to overcompensate by being nice to ALL the people. Things are actually going good for Chloe until the day she discovers there is a hit out on her life.
After a few failed assassination attempts, her boss and one of her regular customers band together and decide sweet little Chloe doesn't deserve to live in her father's twisted shadow so they pack her off to Scotland (annnnnd now you know why I picked this one up. Magic word to get Casey's attention: Scotland. But don't get excited my kilt lovers, there's not a single highlander to be ravaged in this story *sad face*) to attend a secret academy for supernaturals so she can get her MBA.
I guess Charles and Chelle are kind of like her fairy godparents. Except there aren't any fairies in this story.
Well, I take that back, one of her instructors is Fae, but there's not any Disney style fairies in this story. Sorry Tink.
OH! But I did like the troll. I really hope we see more of him later in the series.
Agh. Totally sidetracked.
Look, I'm gonna be real, the plot line to give her an excuse to go to The Institute was a bit wasted on me because all you have to tell me is Secret School. in Scotland. and I'm already like, YES. fuck it, don't care why or how, let's do this thing! But I do appreciate the author's efforts in providing some legitimacy to the story. More on this later.
Anyway, off to higher ed we go and this is where the story ACTUALLY begins. Chloe starts learning all kinds of interesting things about the supernatural world that 'regulars' don't usually get to find out about, she meets some interesting characters, and makes some new friends along the way.
Now, I should take a time out and mention that literally No One dislikes Chloe. After about five minutes of meeting her everyone is like, oh, you're not magic or special or anything, that's fine, you can sit here and we'll braid each other's hair anyway. Okay, maybe not that extreme, but you get the picture. And because every one seems to like her immediately, Chloe comes across as a little too perfect so it gets a bit irritating. On the flipside, this is set at a school and I'm thankful the author didn't include a mean girls trope to manufacture drama. Personally, I'll take too nice and well liked over needlessly persecuted when trying to convince me to like a main character. Individual tastes may vary on that point.
And of course we get hints that maybe Chloe isn't as 'regular' as she thinks. Nothing drives this point home quite as much as the fact that she has caught the attention of the vamp royalty that owns the land the school is on.
Levi is drawn to Chloe and blah blah blah blah blah. Insert typical PNR schtick here. The romance aspect wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I most enjoyed about this story. If you want to read about how awesome Levi is or how he's this mysterious hottie, read a different review. I don't know which one to recommend because I didn't read any before starting the book, but I'm sure there is a Levi lover out there somewhere.
Back to the story.
Levi assigns a couple of bodyguards to keep Chloe safe because *feelings* and then... he kind of takes a back seat in the story for a bit? There is a lot of focus on introducing the side characters for future books in the series. I'm not complaining in the least, I was glad that this wasn't romance overkill. Also, I don't think it would be a spoiler to say that Chloe turns out to not be just a normal human. It would however, be spoilerific to tell you the whos, whats, and whys of her supernaturalness, so I won't. (her specialness does try to explain why people are so quick to become members of the Chloe fan club though so I think the author recognized that it might be an issue for some people)
The story is listed as a PNR but I think it could get away with calling itself an Urban Fantasy because I didn't feel like the romance was main story of the book. According to the blurb all the stories in this series are going to be stand alones. Honestly, I'm not sure how that is going to play out because I feel like there is a lot more coming with Chloe's story? I'm guessing the overall arc may be the story we are introduced to in After Darkness Falls but that there will be a focus on a different couple as the main characters for each book. There are several series that do this but I think it will be difficult for the books to truly be stand alones once you get several installations into the overall story arc. If I can remember to keep up with the series I'm willing to see where this goes.
Oh jeeze, this is getting long. By now you're like... why am I still reading this freaking review but there's more...
You know how sometimes in stories the female lead finds herself in danger and needing the protection of the main hottie and you're just like, this is obviously manufactured drama to get the leads together. Well, that's not the case here. Chloe's dad was a freaking serial killer. Yeah, she felt bad and paid the families of the victims some "I'm sorry my dad killed your loved ones" cash, but if you were her, would you be the least bit surprised to find out someone was still pissed enough to want revenge? No, not at all. So there was an established reason for her to be in danger and willing to accept help and protection. My initial thought was, okay the author gave Chloe a reason to be in danger, but we'll probably never hear another thing about it because it was just a random plot device to get the story rolling. Nope. Not here. There was a reason dear ol' dad was super messed up. It's explained in kind of a rushed way at the end, but it was there. I appreciate it when I feel like a story comes full circle and random stuff wasn't thrown in and then left by the wayside because it wasn't necessary anymore.
Full disclosure, I gave this book an extra star for that reason alone. So thank you, May Sage.
Another aspect of this book that stuck with me was Chloe's refusal to dislike/hate/be afraid of any of the other characters without a reason. Catherine (Cat) is vampire royalty from Italy and her family sends her to Oldcrest as a potential wife for Levi. From the first moment Levi meets Catherine he knows why she's there and she knows why she's there, so there is no hidden agenda drama (another positive). Levi asks Cat why she agreed to come to Oldcrest and her response was basically that she was just bored in Rome and if it worked out between them then becoming a princess or queen wouldn't be so bad. When it becomes clear that Chloe's life is in more danger than anyone originally thought, Levi assigns Catherine as an additional bodyguard. Mikar, Chloe's primary bodyguard, tries to warn Chloe that she shouldn't trust Cat. He tells her that Catherine might view Chloe as an obstacle to winning Levi's affection and that by simply letting something bad happen while guarding her Cat would be rid of that obstacle. Because, you know, accidents happen. Chloe's response:
It would have been so easy for the author to have these two women at odds with each other because of a shared interest in the lead male. But she didn't. And it wasn't just an ooohh I'm going to insert a feminist thought but then have them act catty towards each other anyway type of thing either. Before this conversation between Mikar and Chloe occurs, Chloe is cold so Cat offers Chloe her gloves (New Orleans, remember. She is not used to cold weather and wasn't totally prepared for a winter in the UK). Cat is generally kind of stand-offish to everyone so the kind gesture comes with a bit of snark, but she shared her gloves when she didn't have to do so. Cat was asked to protect Chloe's life, not make sure she was warm and comfy. When Mikar makes the comment about not trusting Cat, Chloe remembers Cat's small kindness. Chloe's inner monologue is rational and she knows Cat will never be her bestie, but Chloe refused to condemn her purely on the potential of a future rivalry over a romantic interest. *tips hat to May Sage*
Okay, almost done. You've stuck it out with me this long, hang in another sec. If you are considering reading this one, here is what you might want to know going in or basically the TLDR version of my review:
► This is available on Kindle Unlimited so if you have that option, this is one of the better freebies I've read through that program. If you don't, $2.99 is more than I would have paid for it, but I'm stingy af with my book budget. If you're not sure, download the sample because enjoyment will vary with this one.
► The blurb says this is a stand alone but depending on the next book I question that. Based on how this book ended, which was not exactly a cliffhanger, but there is obviously more to come that will involve the overarching plot started in this installment of the series, I think reading them out of order or individually might cause confusion. Basically this is not a HEA but more of a HFN so don't expect every aspect of the story to be tied up neatly in a bow.
► There are some editing issues. I have more tolerance for this when reading KU books but if you are super sensitive to them and it will completely derail your ability to enjoy a book, maybe pass on this one. I made it all the way through despite the errors and in the past I have stopped reading a book on page two because I couldn't take the typos so this is not the worst I've read but there are definitely issues.
► This is a romance, but it is pretty romance-lite. There is only one smexy scene so if you are wanting something with more smolder, you will be disappointed. If there was a little bit more focus on the fighting I would have actually considered this UF.
► There is definitely some snowflake specialness happening here but it's PNR so, duh.
► If you are looking for a book boyfriend, I'm gonna say Levi ain't gonna be it. There's nothing WRONG with him, he's just not fleshed out enough for that level of adoration. Jack on the other hand shows some promise. And I would be willing to bet he will have his own book in this series. I would read that for sure.
► This is a quick very light read that works well as a superficial distraction.
► Has a great first line of the book.

Interesting, though not much of a romance!

The heroine: Chloe - she is twenty-five years old and has worked hard to pay her bills. She remembers how self-centered she was as a teen and hadn’t cared about or known what her father was up to, it turned out he was a serial killer and was arrested, taking away all the prospects she had for college. She is now doing good now, but still wanted better for herself.
The Hero: Levi (a.k.a. Leviathan) - He is vampire royalty and is over 2000 years old with long black hair, a muscular frame and an unnaturally handsome face. He also was the owner of the Institute for Supernatural Studies and had a lot of clout in the supernatural world. Levi also loved to study things that didn’t make sense and Chloe was exactly that. So was the blood sickness that infected some vampires, his top priority was to study the sickness and find a cure.
The Story: Chloe was a human (a regular) who worked at a bar owned by a vampire and frequented by supernatural creatures. Her boss Charles ruled New Orleans and had a soft spot for Chloe. So, when someone placed a hit on her, Charles enrolls her at the prestigious Institute for Supernatural Studies in England because no human can reach her there.
The story is interesting, though there is not a lot of interaction between Levi and Chloe. I did like Chloe’s quest to learn more about the supernatural world. This world is much different than any others I have read about before. The seven families of the nobility were turned by the goddess Ariadne. Chloe hangs around with huntsmen and is being protected by vampires. The world is very interesting, and I wouldn’t mind reading more of this series.
This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Lucy Rivers and Aiden Snow. I love Aiden Snow’s voice; he is one of my favorite male narrators. He has a deep, sexy voice and he always does a great job at narration. Lucy Rivers has a nice soft voice, though there is something about her voice that I don’t like, I am not sure if it was because she sounds older than 25 years or the fact that her male vampire voice was really bad.

Lucy Rivers has a nice soft voice, though there is something about her voice that I don’t like, I am not sure if it was because she sounds older than 25 years or the fact that her male vampire voice was really bad.

After finding and reading the prequel I needed to do a re-read.
Original review.
I stumbled across this book while looking for something else. The cover caught my attention but the blurb held it. I then checked the reviews on Goodreads. And it was a very mixed bag including some 2 and 3* reviews.
So I decided not to bother.
But it kept popping up. So with incredibly low expectations I decided to give it a try. I wasn’t honestly expecting to get past the first chapter. But I found I was mesmerised. Even when it became obvious what was happening and how the story would go. It just didn’t matter I was hooked.
I’m not going to give my usual summary because I’m moving straight onto the next book. But I was pleasantly surprised.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I think this author needs to start writing serials.
This is another book which had a nice premise but because it is a standalone it ended up being so rushed with all the information and the climax just being a jumbled mess. The entire book could have been fleshed out, instead everything happens at once at the end and the next book is about a different couple even though there are still things that weren't revealed in this book.

Romance-light, as Casey's review correctly says. It's a NA Urban Fantasy that tacks a mate bond on the heroine, but as NA goes it's at least light on the silliness too.

Chloe Miller is trying to live her life outside the shadows of the bloody legacy of her father. After surviving a series of attacks, her mentor and boss sends her off to The Institute of Supernatural Studies also known as The Academy, a very exclusive university run by supernaturals (sups). And it's there that Chole will find out there's so much she doesn't know abut her heritage and that her future holds more power, responsibility and danger than she could have imagined.
This super light on the romance, which wouldn't have been a problem if the world building had been richer and the action packed more of a punch. Was expecting so much more than what I got.

Another book I'm on the fence about. This had a really interesting premise and waiting to find out what would happen with Chloe was fun. But the pace of the book was all over the place and that's what kind of ruined it for me. At times the story was slow and there were a few too many scenes where it didn't feel like anything was happening to actually move the story forward. While at other times I would have liked the story to slow down and flesh out some of the world building more. Then the ending came and crammed a lot of important scenes into a small about of pages and rushed us through to the ending. A lot of important information was thrown at us at the end and it didn't leave much room to actually enjoy what the new discoveries meant for the characters or the world.
Overall, I did enjoy reading this book even with the few issues I had with it. I'm not sure if I'll move on with the series at this point, maybe if it ends up on Kindle Unlimited one day or available at my library I will.

There was so much in this world that should have been explained and expanded on. So many great side characters and different supernaturals that this one book couldn't do it justice. The ending was way too quick...if there was another book I would have been able to rate this higher but the next is characters we were introduced to in this one

I like the premise, but kind of felt a little disconnected from the characters.
So in this book supernaturals like vampires, witches, werewolves and fae are a known entity to humanity. Humans are called regulars, and our h- Chloe is your average human (well if you don't count the fact that her father was a serial killer) however she feels more comfortable around Sups (not supes)
Said sups include her Vampire boss, aquaitances in the NOLA coven, and occasional werewolf friend.
Due to some unexpected attacks and threats on her life Chloe has been sent to an international supernatural school-with a variety of characters and and interesting curriculum. (I really did like the school aspect) Unfortunately, along the way Chloe realizes that her father's enemies might not be the only people gunning for her, and that supernatural forces may be at work.

I felt like I was reading a story of a story if that makes sense- were we were getting the highlights but I didn't really feel any of the fear or joy of growing into this new world.

Lost interest when the h started 'school'. It's a YA feel, despite h doing her MBA. The h is special for a lot of wrong reasons, finds out she's also special for right reasons. We are constantly told how super good she is at well, everything really. The H is old, super gorgeous, super smart and super special too. Clearly they deserve each other, the end. It's a good book, I did like the story arc and some of the scenes were great, but it just felt so..YA.

Chloe finds herself In a Shifter bar and her boss helps her out and gets her into a school for paranormal studies after she's attacked. She's on the run from people who want her dead because her father is a bad person so the safest place for her is at the school. On her way to the school she meets the owner of the land that the schools is on. He's a very interesting guy and she immediately likes and dislikes him at the same time. She finds herself drawn to him and finds out that he's a very powerful person at school. People don't talk about him because they're scared of him, they call him the leviathan but she knows him as Levi.
She finds herself having fun with the school even though bad people are after her even though she doesn't realize how much danger she's in and she feels betrayed because nobody told her what was really going on. She make some friends at the school and she finds she's not as regular or human as she thought she was because there there's something different about her but it isn't until the end of the book that we figure out what it is and it was a really good twist. I really like the end of this book I love Levi, he was such a good character and Chloe was great. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series now.

I realized a valuable lesson today - simply because you have the time to read a book, doesn’t mean you should, especially when you don’t like it.
I desperately wanted to be into this book to relive my vampire phase during quarantine, but I am just not willing to waste my time reading a book like this. The book is a mix between Shadow and Bone and Halloween, but it doesn’t feel like it’s going anywhere. As good as the writing is, the excessively long exposition and world-building made reading feel tedious. I was still being introduced to new plot lines and background info at page 155. It doesn’t help that despite being a “vampire romance” the two people barely speak for half the book. I’m all for a good slow-burn, but in order for anything to be burning at all the couple have to actually speak to one another.
Here’s to hoping the author’s other books are better. May try again if I’m ever feeling more patient 🤷🏾♀️.

I haven't read to many vampire books, I don't know why but they haven't come up often for me. Now the vampire trend is back and I am excited to find new books but there was one book that I have been debating on for almost a year and I decided to finally dive into After Darkness Falls before I tackle any other vampire books and I am so glad I did, this book was amazing.
This is my first book by May Sage and I didn't know what to expect but she did not disappoint. In this world, supernaturals are known and while they mostly keep their business separate from humans and they go about their business. There are shifters, vampires, witches, and pretty much any other supernatural you can think of most immortal and all pretty powerful.
The main character, Chloe, is a mortal who works at a vampire bar, and after being attacked one she is then whisked off to a university for the supernatural for safety. Chloe has endured a lot of things but is a good person, making it one day at a time. She is willing to give everyone a chance, is really smart, and wants to learn everything she can about the supernatural. My favorite thing about Chloe is that she is resilient, she could have let her past drag her down, turn her into an entirely different person but she didn't.
Like many readers, I love an academy setting and a supernatural one is even better. The university is like a normal university in every way with the exception that most of its students are supernatural and supernatural courses are part of the normal curriculum. I would have loved to attend but there is no way I would have survived all that went bump in the night there.
The mythology was good, the origin story was very unique but the overall story had that familiar comfort of a good vampire story. I love the tale of how vampires came into existence and what happened that lead up to the present point. The story was amazing and I loved it very much felt like a college setting, getting to know people, discovering things about yourself and learning new things.
There were a couple of characters that made a bigger impression, one is Levi the ancient immortal who is powerful intelligent and complicated, Jack who is a little tougher and nicer than expected and Cat who is not at all what I thought she was. I loved all these characters and more.
After Darkness Falls is the first book in the series and each book after that follows a couple of different characters that readers are introduced to in this book, I am looking forward to reading more about the characters I love. I have no idea if the overall story arc is going to continue but I have a few unanswered questions that I would love to be answered. I also hope I get to see all the characters from this book throughout the series.

I'm picky but I liked this one.
I've read so many paranormal romance books and series that I think I'm a pretty good judge of what's good and what's not. Rhis one intrigued me from the get go.
I was afraid it was going to be a teeny bopper drama but thankfully, it doesn't go there at all. It's dark but light enough to have humor which is a must have for me.
Chloe has a great personality. She isn't too intense or full of herself. The other characters are interesting too.
I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Daughter of a serial killer gets sent to an institute for supernaturals in Scotland after a few failed assassination attempts on her life.
Very light romance between chloe and Levi. This isn’t a bad book. I read it on Kindle Unlimited and listened to it on Hoopla if interested. It was definitely setting up the world, getting us introduced to I’m assuming characters we’ll see in later books.

I feel cheated as this was supposed to be a stand alone novel according to advertisements. However, it was still really good! I loved the suspense the book held with the knowledge that she was being hunted as the daughter of a (supernatural beings) murderer.

Definitely a book that took awhile to get into, but once I did it was actually a good read.
Love a book that has good sexual tension running through it and it did that.
I think more could have been done with the supernatural elements, we skipped over a lot of the potential places we could have gone with the magic etc. Also some scenes started and I was excited to see what was going to happen, but basically nothing did?
There were also a lot of characters and a lot of them didn't have much purpose, also each new character was described as even more beautiful than the last, to the point that describing them seemed pointless because I knew what was coming.
I did enjoy this book, but it could maybe have been more focused on one or two things instead of loosely suggesting a whole bunch of things.

I’m a bit upset with how this book ended.
First off, lemme say that I read this because my KU subscription ended and I didn’t want to get another year of it while living at home so that I could read the books that I actually want to read. This book was free so I “bought” it.
I was excited to read a paranormal romance because I usually love them. I almost always read shifter paranormal romances, so a vamp one was a nice change. I was also hoping it was different than the Twilight series, which I have yet to read because I hated the movies and I’m team Jacob all the way (because wolf shifters 🥵, amiright?) which is clearly NOT who Bella ends up with...
ANYWAY!
The characters:
I loved them. I connected well with Chloe, was kept in suspense about Levi, but overall loved him. Her bodyguard (I forget his name, it started with a K and was very unique) was sweet and funny and I shipped them for a time. Jack was hilarious and I loved his good leadership traits (also low key shipped him and Chloe). Gwen and Blaire were some of the funniest bsfs I’ve ever read in a series bc of the way they acted together (I totally ship them, whether or not they’re straight (pretty sure they are, but oh well)). Everyone else was important, their were no odd why-are-they-in-this ppl, which was nice.
The plot:
I bought this under the impression that it was a standalone romance. Turns out its not, or if it is, the author left a lot of untied ends. Like... A LOT. Her bio said that she continues series as they are reviewed, so like whichever ones are most popular are the ones she writes for next ig? Seems a bit sus to me, and I probably won’t be purchasing her books in the future except to finish this series. (If she ends up finishing it... honestly, idfk).
Overall, I enjoyed the plot. It was well written and planned and/or revised (depending on whether May Sage is a plotter or pantser).

This book is a good read. I've been so desperate to read about this new take on Sage's paranormal world and honestly, it was definitely worth the wait. The book got off to a slow start, with a few slow paras scattered throughout the first 60% of the book. Not a lot. But just enough for me not to give this book a perfect rating (even-though it's five star rated by yours truly 😂. There's no half-a-star okay! Might as well highlight 'em all 😂). Oh, and the fact that I'm slightly confused about Chloe's eye color. In the prequel it's implied she has "big baby blue eyes" yet in this book there was a mention of brown eyes then blue on certain 👀 occasions later on. So, I'm a bit...confused about that one. That last 40% though? Whooh, what a bang that was. I practically drank it in like I've been stuck in a desert for the past month. It. Is. That. Good. I cannot wait for the next one. And I hope it's soon because I NEED LEVI & CHLOE/VIOLA & TOM back in my life as soon as possible.
Everything in this book is worth reading. Every character in it is worth reading. What more do you need to know? I totally recommend this book to lovers of badass heroines and their imperfectly perfect heroes. But just like what I told my sister about the latest Lara Croft movie remake. This is Chloe before she becomes Baddest B!tch Chloe M. Eirikrson. You will get a glimpse of her in that last 40% of your book. And frankly, I cannot wait to read more about her quickly rising level of badassery.
May Sage has done it again. I hope she can do it again. And quickly, too 😂😭.
I'm off to find something to distract me until the next one!

This book is a good read. I've been so desperate to read about this new take on Sage's paranormal world and honestly, it was definitely worth the wait. The book got off to a slow start, with a few slow paras scattered throughout the first 60% of the book. Not a lot. But just enough for me not to give this book a perfect rating (even-though it's five star rated by yours truly 😂. There's no half-a-star okay! Might as well highlight 'em all 😂). Oh, and the fact that I'm slightly confused about Chloe's eye color. Tried this on Scribd, listened to the whole thing because for some reason I wanted to know what happened.. I guessed it but still wanted to know... Also have decided that Lucy Rivers as a narrator isn't for me, her guy voice really took me out of the story, they all sounded like old man cowboys haha
The romance in here was little to nonexistent until the end.. and I couldn't feel any spark or chemistry between Levi and Chloe, which is unfortunate. I think that if we had more of a slow burn or more interaction between the two I would have enjoyed it more, but unfortunately this didn't do it for me.
Levi would pop in when convenient and just help, but not really and then Chloe would think he is gorgeous, but that was their interaction. And then the ending they decided to bang once and I didn't even feel anything no spark no nothing it was bland and I wished for more.
The only character I liked was Jack..
Overall forgetable and won't be continuing the rest of the series.

I’m not a vamp fan. I rarely like books, series, or any entertainment format where vamps are leads or to prominently featured. It’s always so... exhausting. They bore me. They’re so one dimensional or overly romanticized or unbareably stupid. People don’t put real thought into what it means to be as long lived as vampires are supposed to be. It’s just “yay”, “sexy”, “bite me”, blah blah blah... this story was different. It’s fresher. For one, it’s got an interesting take on vamps with born vamps vs made vamps. It also takes time to really consider what the aged mind in youthful body dynamics with a subtlety I can really appreciate. And it was fascinating take that interdependence of the human & the vampire mindsets & why they couldn’t survive a mortal existence.
This story had romance, but it wasn’t schmalzy or forced. It was too people living their unusual lives as normally as they could manage until fate intervened. It made me think & consider & wonder & fantasize. It made me want more. I want to know who these vamps are beyond this book as much as the hunters, witches & sundry supernatural beings. I actually wanted to know so much about do many that I can’t thing of a single character I didn’t like or who didn’t at least intrigue me. I need to make a list so I can try to harass May for more books in the series. And for the first time ever vamps top my list—although they aren’t the only ones to fascinate me! Brava, Mistress May! I am hooked!

I wanted to like After Darkness Falls, but honestly it just fell a little flat for me. Despite an interesting premise, the plot didn't show up until close to the end. The little bit of romance there was wasn't very believable or romantic. Despite the age of the characters, it reads mostly like YA except for one scene.
The idea of supernatural creatures coexisting with humans publicly and going to an institute of higher learning for supernaturals in Scotland? Pretty cool. Unfortunately, it just didn't click with me. The way it ended was really more of a beginning. I feel that it would make more sense to continue with Chloe and Levi's story for a bit -- as it felt quite unfinished to me.

Really enjoyed
This was a great story and introduction to a brand new world. I enjoyed it much and am curious to see how it all plays out. This has great characters, storyline, betrayal and treachery, along with a bunch of different supernaturals/immortals. I like May Sage, this is my second or maybe third book by her, she tells great stories.

So Good
I could not put this book down. Chloe's story is completely engaging and beyond fantastic. I love Levi for her, talk about fate being a b$tch. I highly recommend this book. Another winner for May Sage.
