A Charming Blend: Magical Cures and Killer Coffee Crossover Mystery

Rate this book
A crossover tale of two cozy mystery sleuths, June Heal from the Magical Cures Mystery Series and Roxanne Bloom from the Killer Coffee Series.

When Roxy Bloom and Patrick Cane got a gift card at the Full Moon Treesort in Whispering Falls, Kentucky, they figured it’d be a fantastic honeymoon.

When June Heal heard from the Whispering Falls Newspaper report from editor Faith Mortimer that there was a nosy coffee barista coming to town and she needed an eye kept on her, June was quick to put Mr. Prince Charming on the tourist, Roxanne Bloom.

When a dead body is discovered during the annual Whispering Fall tree lightening, Roxy Bloom just can’t seem to keep her nose out of it, even though she feels like something strange is going on in the cozy town.

June Heal is using powers, she never thought she’d use, to keep tourist Roxy Bloom away from the crime scene.

Will the two feisty sleuths come together to solve this murder before Roxy’s honeymoon is over or before June Heal uses all of her powers to keep Roxy away from their secrets of Whispering Falls?

A Charming Christmas by Tonya Kappes
Magical Cures Mysteries series #6.5. Holiday novella.
Whispering Falls, Kentucky is celebrating Christmas for the first time ever. The town is traditionally a spiritualist community but to hopefully increase revenue, the counsel has voted to promote and decorate for Christmas. But a grinch has started destroying the festive displays and June Heal decides to investigate.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Oscar Park is spending more time away from June and Whispering Falls and June is worried something is going on.

A Christmas holiday which is a first for the town with mixed results for the town people but a definite draw for the outsiders.
Do what you have to do to increase sales. A smart move for the town.

I read a version from several years back that had a lot editing that needed to be done. It’s possible it’s been updated in current versions.

I enjoyed this short story crossover featuring characters from the Killer coffee Mystery series and the Magical Cures Mystery series. I did find it hard to distinguish who was speaking in some of the dialogue, so that was confusing at times. All in all, it was a *magical*, fun story, and relaxing to read in an hour’s time. I recommend the Killer Coffee series to cozy readers—it’s a great, entertaining series with a schnauzer!

A Charming Blend by Tonya Kappes takes us on a magical journey to Whispering Falls, Kentucky. Roxy Bloom and Patrick Cane received a gift card for Full Moon Treesort which they feel will be the perfect place for their honeymoon. They will be in town to witness the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. June Heal, owner of A Charming Cure, learns from The Whispering Falls Newspaper that Roxy has an inquisitive nature, and they need to keep an eye on her while in town. June wants to keep Roxy focused on Patrick while she is in town and not on the peculiarities of Whispering Falls. When Roxy comes into A Charming Cure, June whips her up a special potion. Roxy Mr. Prince Charming is kept busy tailing Roxy, but he cannot prevent her from tripping over a dead man in Santa’s sleigh. June’s special abilities are put to test in attempting to keep Roxy away from the murder investigation. Roxy, though, is one determined and curious woman especially when she observes some oddities. Will Whispering Falls survive Roxy’s visit?

A Charming Blend is a crossover novella featuring June Heal from A Magical Cures Mystery series and Roxy Bloom from A Killer Coffee Mystery series. Fans of both series will enjoy this spirited story. Tonya Kappes has an engaging writing style. I am immediately drawn into the story and do not want leave until I finished the very last word. A Charming Blend is a whimsical and humorous cozy mystery. It has a quick pace and can easily be read in one sitting. Roxy and June coming together was highly entertaining. I fond myself laughing frequently while reading A Charming Blend. The mystery is light but that is natural considering the book length. Mr. Prince Charming is a clever feline and his final scene will have you giggling. Admirers of Tonya Kappes’ two series will be enchanted with A Charming Blend.

“A Charming Blend” earns 5/5 Delightful Duos…Clever and Entertaining!

Coffee and Magic? Roxy and June? Great duo! “A Charming Blend” is a short novella blending two delightful Kappes worlds, Killer Coffee and Magical Cures mysteries. She cleverly uses a first-person narrative, but the “I” perspective switches from Roxy, then June, then Roxy, then…It was so clever! Roxy and Patrick received a special wedding gift treating them to a magical honeymoon at the Full Moon Treesort in Whispering Falls, of course with their two fur buddies in tow, but Roxy doesn't realize she was expected…well, it was more of a warning, and keeping her preoccupied and not nosing around is imperative for everyone’s anonymity in Whispering Falls. You see everyone is magical from witches to wizards to psychics and more. June owns A Charming Cure shop with the magical ability to sense exactly what potion a customer needs, but she likes Roxy and can't see why she is so…dangerous. Maybe it's because once again Roxy stumbles, more accurately plops, into the lap of a dead body! Finished in a couple of hours, this novella was perfect, short, but in no way short on entertainment with a clever plot twist, quirky characters, and “Karma” getting their say in it all. I loved it!

A Charming Blend by Tonya Kappes was originally released in a boxed set, Cozy Christmas Crimes, in November, 2018. She has now released this short story on it's own.

Ms. Kappes has combined two of her series together for one delectable murder mystery. Roxanne and Patrick, from her Killer Coffee mystery series, decide to honeymoon in Whispering Falls, KY. Whispering Falls is the home of Ms. Kappes' A Magical Cures mystery series. It's a magical combination of magic, murder and mystery. Poor June Heal had to work feverishly to keep Roxy from discovering how truly magical Whispering Falls can be. The plot was quickly paced with just enough twists to keep me guessing and laughing as June kept trying to distract Roxanne. Though a short story it was a perfect cozy mystery read.

A Charming Blend by Tonya Kappes features a blend between Roxy and Patrick from the Killer Coffee Series and June Heal from the Magical Cures Series.

Roxy and Patrick arrive in Whispering Falls . Roxy notices a few things that are a bit strange but goes with it. She meets a young lady who is engaged and they have a nice chat.

At the lighting of the tree Roxy is asked to look for the finance and find him dead with a knife wound. Now she has to find out what is going on.

June teamed up with Roxy to keep an eye on her plus find out what is going on.

I loved the story as we have a mix of mystery, magic, murder and a little romance.
A great fun read.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

This is the most adorable crossover cozy ever!! We get Roxy and Patrick on their honeymoon and they just happen to be visiting Whispering Falls where they meet June. This is best mash up of both worlds ever. The combination makes it impossible to stop reading once you get started. Before you know the book is over and you are sad there is no more. The perfect escape into a magical cozy. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

A magical coincidence?

I’ve only read a few of Tonya’s books but Christmas and magic? I’m game! And this book is a quick intro to two of her Siri-es...ooops, series. It’s a quick read and a whole lot of fun. 5/5

While I really love some of her series, there are some that don't work as well for me as others. However, I'm sure they're the favorites of other readers. This one didn't really work for me, but it would be a wonderful holiday read for fans of the Magical Cures series (I imagine) most of all.

A quick and easy read with a fun mystery. I really like how this resolved. I was a little confused about her relationship. I thought something had happened in the last book that was keeping them apart for a bit, but they were right back where they were before in this one.

Psychic June Heal is on her own, sort of, in finding a local thief who’s messing with Christmas in the magical town of Whispering Falls. She’s on her own because her beloved wizard sheriff is snowed in in another town but she does have her familiars, Mr. Prince Charming and Madame Torres, to give her an assist.

This town of spiritualists doesn’t really celebrate Christmas usually but the Village Council decided to have a month-long bazaar to draw in shoppers. A few citizens are disgruntled about it but most get into it with lots of decorations, caroling, festive street lights and the like. Too bad some misguided grinch is stealing the shop decorations; is this thief all that upset about celebrating the season? Then again, perhaps June will discover something else entirely and save the bazaar.

There are no murders here, just a fun little story to enjoy along with a cup of cocoa and a Christmas cookie; fans of the series as well as new readers will relish this visit to Whispering Falls 😉

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Can Roxy and June put their differences aside to solve this mystery?
A Charming Blend by Tonya Kappes is an excellent crossover between Magical Cures Mystery and A Killer Coffee Mystery Series. I love the way that June Heal and Roxy Bloom are trying to solve the mystery while trying to hide it from the other. Too bad they didn't meet under different circumstances, I think June and Roxy would make great friends. Even with one being magical and the other not.
What I like:

The way Ms. Kappes handled the chapters with one being with Roxy and the next with June.
I love the way that Roxy is just not taking it June's way and is confused about a lot of things that are happening.
The dynamic between Roxy and June once they met is something that is so humorous. June is trying to keep her occupied to stay away from all things magical.
The way that neither of the girls, like always, listen to their love interests about staying out of police business.
It was a cute little mystery around Christmas time.

What I don’t like:
I didn’t like that it was so short. I know it’s a novella, so it is supposed to be short, but it was a great little read. Another thing that I didn’t like was that Roxy and June couldn’t see eye to eye on how to go about solving this mystery. They are both so stubborn and curious.
Five Star
A Charming Blend by Tonya Kappes was a fabulous book and a quick little read. I can’t wait to go back and read the other Magical Cures and A Killer Coffee books to get myself caught up. I am giving this book a five-star rating as it was a perfect read.

Anyways until the next time enjoy this review brought to you by,

Roxy Bloom and Patrick Cane have received a gift card for a trip to Whispering Falls so they decide this is a wonderful place to spend their honeymoon. June Heal and the rest of the residents from Whisper Falls are expecting Roxy’s arrival and know of her tendency to nose around. When a dead body turns up Roxy can’t help herself; she has to solve the mystery. June needs to help solve the murder but she can’t let Roxy get involved and find out the real magic of Whispering Falls. Can Roxy and June come together and solve the murder without Roxy finding out the mystery behind Whispering Falls?

Tonya Kappes has done it again with her wonderful storytelling abilities: great storyline and fabulous character interactions. This is a great marriage of two of Tonya’s popular series. The interactions between Roxy and the cast of Whispering Falls is wonderful. Putting the blend of characters from these two series was a fabulous idea. In addition to the great chemistry of characters, the storyline was fun and entertaining with several laugh out loud moments. This is a fun fresh cozy mystery that fans of both series as well as other mystery and paranormal fans will love.

I received a copy of this book in hopes I would supply a review. The thoughts and opinions I have shared here are my own and in no way have been influenced.

This was the last of the series that I had on my NOOK and since it was a short story, I figured I knock it out and be done with the series. I read half the series and have no desire to continue reading it, but it was fun while it lasted.

The spiritualist community of Whispering Falls, KY decided that for economic reasons, they are going to hold a month long Christmas Bazaar, even though none of the residents celebrate Christmas. June and Oscar, due to back stories that involve growing up outside of the spiritualist community, can't wait since it brings back great memories for them. Petunia, new Village President, is not happy about the town going all out to attract Christmas shoppers and is bitchy to everyone about it. But alas, there is a WF Grinch on the loose and he/she is stealing the outside decorations from the stores. There is a subplot with June jumping to conclusions that Oscar is cheating on her. He isn't, but his reasons for being in Locust Grove is also due to economics of the village.

I figured out who/what the Grinch was very early on but I just sat back and let the story play out.

In this novella we are treated with two different series coming together and two favorite characters meeting up. Roxy Bloom is off to Whispering Falls with new husband Patrick to enjoy a quiet honeymoon away from friends and family. June Heal is eager to meet Roxy because the local newspaper has reported how nosy she can be. June has to keep on her toes so that Roxy doesn't look to deeply into the town and turn over its secrets. When a man is murdered during the annual tree lighting Roxy steps in to help figure out who the killer is. She met the man's fiance earlier in the day and wants to help the young woman in any way that she can. June must keep a close eye on Roxy because none of her spells or potions seem to be working on the newlywed. Follow along while Roxy hunts for a killer and June tries to keep Whispering Falls a mystery to all those who visit. This was a treat seeing these two strong women characters together and how they worked together. I hope the author does another cross over with them in the future. I would love to see June visit Roxy in her setting.

Yay!!! Christmas is coming to Whispering Falls. Everyone is getting ready for a month long of Christmas Bazaar. Lots of decorations, and a lot of Christmas cheer, but someone is stealing all the decorations from the shops. It is up to June to use her intuition to get to the bottom of it.
Oscar is also acting funny. June thinks he is having an affair, and she is afraid that he wants to dump her.
This book is such a happy book, with lots of Christmas Spirit. This book will make you feel so good, and you will really be
glad you read it. This book is in a series of books, but you do not have to have read the other books to enjoy this one but you
will want to read more about this witty, fun character and her friends in Whispering Falls

This was first published on my blog " Lecture toute une Aventure"
My opinion:
This is a novella so of course it feels too short but still it's a wonderful cross over between two great series. Even if i'm not up to date in both series i didn't feel like i was missing any important info so this a wonderful advantage for those who would be new to one or both series.

Magic and christmas is a good mix when you add a little investigation in it.

I recommend this novella to both readers of the series Killer coffee series and/or Magical Cures Mystery series but also to those simply wanting a good novella set at Christmas time with a good dosis of humour and romance.

Roxy Bloom and Patrick Cane from the Killer Coffee Mystery Series spend their honeymoon in Whispering Falls, Kentucky, from the Magical Cures Mystery Series. They are excited to be able to witness the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and explore the area. Unfortunately, almost from the getgo, Roxy stumbles across a body. That leaves our wonderful owner of A Charming Cure having to come up with a way to keep Roxy and Patrick from remembering all the things they might witness in this magical town. This was a fantastic idea of the author to do a crossover between the two series. I hope to see more crossovers in the future.

Hope there will be more

This was just a quick visit to see June Heal along with Roxy Bloom. Roxy and Patrick have gotten married and went away to a magic all village in their honeymoon. While there, there was a murder. Of course Roxy couldn't not investigate and June Heal had her hands full trying to keep the magic of the village hidden from Roxy. This was a fast and fun read. I hope Roxy will visit June again soon.

Another great visit to Whispering Falls! Someone is stealing the outdoor decorations in Whispering Falls, and it's up to June Heal to figure it out. All of our favorite spiritualists make an appearance in this novella. There's also a secondary storyline involving Oscar and what he's hiding from June. Go buy this great holiday read!

Merry Christmas!

Thank you, Tonya Kappes, for this wonderful story of Christmas spirit! I could picture Whispering Falls as I read along, seeing the snow and the decorations in my mind. I was even happy to find out I was right about who the Grinch was that stole Christmas!

The town of Whispering Falls is gearing up to celebrate the Christmas season but unbeknownst to them they have a grinch in the town who is taking all the outside decorations from the shops in town. It’s up to June and her familiars to solve this problem on top of a personal one which is weighing June down during this time that should be so happy.

This book is a fun little story that can “charm” you no matter what the season is! Get to know the quirky people in this magical town where the word “ witch” is never used! It’s a book I highly recommend to one and all who love cozy mysteries! There are other books in this series to read after you’ve wetted your appetite with this one so why not get comfortable and settle back and enjoy reading about people who will be sure to be your new book friends as you read the first book!

Let your mind travel to places while you’re safe and warm by a fire place or snuggled up under blankets in the winter time or just relaxing in the summer days!
I’ll see you in Whispering Falls!

A Charming Blend by Tonya Kappes is exactly what you expect from a small-town cosy mystery — comforting, light, and easy to read. It has all the usual ingredients: a close-knit community, a bit of drama, and a mystery that keeps things ticking along nicely.
The setting is warm and welcoming, and if you’re already a fan of Tonya Kappes’ style, you’ll feel right at home here. The characters are familiar and friendly, and there’s a pleasant sense of routine to the story that makes it a good pick when you want something low-stakes and relaxing.
That said, it didn’t fully grab me. The mystery itself was fine but not especially memorable, and I never felt that urgent pull to keep reading. It’s cosy, but perhaps a little too safe, and nothing really surprised me.
Overall, this was an enjoyable enough read that did what it set out to do, but it didn’t stick with me once I’d finished. Three stars — comfortable, gentle, and best suited to fans of the genre looking for a quiet, familiar mystery.
