I admire and respect this manga so much, but I still never really felt a sense of passion between the main characters. The exploration of disability is wonderful; however, for me, the romance is not anything special. But I will definitely be picking up the physical volumes when they start coming out because I want to support this series and the creator as much as I can.
"I don’t think hard times have to mean that your whole life is over. Despite how hard things might get, I just feel so happy walking with you like this, dad. You know what I think makes a person happy? The people they meet. [...] I’m just glad I was lucky enough to be your daughter, dad."
Wow. Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions.
At the beginning of the volume, Tsugumi and Itsuki are still struggling to have her father’s blessing and now that he’s dying from sickness, she remembered the sweet, meaningful times she had with him.
As a daddy’s girl, I fully understand where they both are coming from and how her dad just wants her happiness. I believe he was a great dad, always taking care of his family in any way he could. But now he has to understand that Tsugumi is happy when she’s with Itsuki, and though they will find hardships along the way, it would be nice to have his blessing.
Finally, the old man sees that they truly love each other and expects to see her in her wedding dress, which was what I wanted from the beginning because they bring the best in each other. I wanted them to be happy and when Itsuki proposes to Tsugumi is the sweetest thing ever! I laughed through tears.
I was crying non-stop with this volume, for real. I was scared that her dad would die or that Kaede might die too, before attending to Tsugumi and Itsuki’s wedding. Fortunately everything was absolutely perfect! I mean it! They both look beautiful together. Tsugumi was a lovely bride and Itsuki such a handsome groom I was crying my heart out, but they were tears of happiness.
I cannot believe all the things that had happened up until now and it was so refreshing to see them fully embrace this new chapter in their lives. I’m glad I’m collecting the series and though it makes me cry like no one else, I love them so much. 5 stars is not enough to tell you how much they mean to me.
Tsugumi's ill father projects his insecurities about being a burden on his family onto Itsuki, and wants better for his daughter. It's upsetting and a bit too drawn out, but the series does end in a satisfying way. This is the last volume, and I liked Perfect World overall, but I wish there was just a bit more joy or humour now and then. The romance is really sweet but the narrative gets bogged down in problems, and the payoffs weren't always enough to cleanse my palette of the depressing stuff.
Yes! This couple! I love them and I’ve been waiting for the events of this volume to happen—especially the growth between the female MC and her dad. (Although I hate how she calls herself selfish because I’m sorry…deciding to be with a man in a wheelchair does NOT make you selfish…wtf?)
Anyway, this is a great series and I can’t wait for the next instalment! Also, I just saw that there is a movie? And a drama?!? Excuse me?!?!? *adds to to-watch list.*
*Happy dance* this one made me very happy because we’re finally starting to make more progress in an overall positive direction. While this series has always been gripping, it is now also very sweet and is starting to reduce the level of angst. I’m looking forward to the next one.
I did not think it was possible for this manga to make my heart swell any more than it already had. And then volume 9 happened. No spoilers for the ending but, fans, be prepared to cheer and have a goofy grin on your face!
Tsugumi’s father giving them the blessing for their marriage after Itsuki’s very persistent meeting with him.
When itsuki was there for Tsugami in her insane time of need. It just touches my heart so so much.
The proposal made my heart skip beats. Something about the simplicity of it and heartfelt conversation of Itsuki wanting to do as much as he can for Tsugumi, but recognizing that he needs her help. And when he grabbed her hand and slipped the ring on! It was just the most special thing. You don’t see proposals with them at the same level, so it just made it so special!
The wedding was just beautiful and was so glad that her father didn’t pass before then!
Just an all around amazing volume! I know a lot of trials are headed for them, so this wholesomeness was so beautiful 🥹🥹

While I felt like it once again got v dramatic, I enjoyed this volume more than I have previous ones, and am glad our main characters stood in their conviction in staying together, and I can't wait to read the next two volumes!
Another 3.5⭐️ ok, I wanted this…. But why did everything have to happen what seemed like so incredibly fast. I’m happy about where we are going, but when spend the last numerous volumes on so much and then rush this one… a little disappointed
Having admitted their feelings to themselves and each other, it now falls on the happy couple to convince everyone else that they belong together. Tsugumi’s father is a tough nut to crack, but Itsuki isn’t giving up. The ending was heartfelt and lovely.
I like that we've gotten them together finally... but it feels too quick. Like we've skipped all the cutesy stuff that I would normally want with a romance book/manga.
“Do you think I have any right to love anyone? Any right to be loved in return? Has my disability taken all my freedoms away from me?” Itsuki Ayakawa in Vol.9
I keep returning to Ituski’s very real and heartbreaking fear: Am I, a disabled person, worthy of love despite the fear of becoming a burden?
Seeing Itsuki, who in the first few volumes answers this question of worthiness with a resounding no, fight for his yes brought me to tears (this series does that a lot). His steadfastness and drive to love Tsugumi and fight for her father’s blessing felt like choosing to live fully in his capacity to love and dream. By earning her father’s blessing by being his authentic and caring self, Itsuki hurdled over the barrier of disapproval from Tsugumi’s father’s own ableism. This volume meant so much to me - to see Itsuki and Tsugumi married under the cherry blossoms that meant so much to them, my goodness, my heart!
While there are three other volumes left in the series, from the beautiful but realistic depictions of different disabilities from various points of view, the cruelty of ableism (external and internal), and the bittersweetness of new beginnings, this is a manga series worth reading. It’s an emotional roller coaster but worth the ride (especially if you love drama - think K-Drama level of drama). Characters who I despised initially, including one of the protagonists, Tsugumi, are well-fleshed out, redeemable, human, and lovable through multiple volumes. Tropes I usually loathe in romance, like love triangles and miscommunication, were compelling. The art and research have been brilliant, even when drawing painful realities like bedsores. Aruga is phenomenal for unflinchingly depicting multiple realities of disability. What makes Aruga more commendable in my book is that Itsuki, my favorite male lead in a romance manga, doesn’t feel objectified or infantilized because of his disability. His character is given equal standing through his point of view throughout the series thus far.
It makes me sad that I only have 3 volumes left.

Overall (vol. 1-9) thoughts: I prefer light-hearted mangas, and while this series has its happier moments, it’s also very real with the discussions and events that take place. It’s heart wrenching at times, frustrating at others, and I just want them to be happy. *sniffs* This series has given me a lot to think about (mainly volumes 1,2 & 9), but I don’t know if I’ll be continuing with any more future releases, I think vol. 9 ended it well enough for me. (Thought on this volume: The happiest volume.)
3 stars.
Content for this Volume- Going to a temple & praying; Two forms of 'd*mn', a 'God', a 'sucker', a 'where the hell'; Death is a common topic in this series; Mentions of pain & injuries; A few mentions of alcohol & drinking; A mention of a divorce; Mentions of crushes, dating, dates, girlfriends/boyfriends, & breakups.
18/12/2021 3 ⭐️ They finally got engaged & married (in the same volume!!!) so someone tell me why I was still so bored?? Honestly I love the honest exploration of illness and disability in this series but considering it’s also a romance there’s a surprising lack of chemistry between the main couple!
It was painful yet wonderful to see Tsugumi’s father finally give the pair his blesssing. After all of the pain, sweat and tears, they’re finally together and all is well for their world. It was adorable to see Tsugumi and Itsuki’s wedding as well as seeing all of their friends and family celebrate their love. It was also kinda cute to see Koreda and Nagasawa have been spending some time together over drinks. I’m also very glad that this isn’t the end and there will be more volumes to come after this. I’m very curious and excited for Tsugumi and Itsuki’s future as husband and wife.
After reading the previous volume, I’ll admit I was disappointed in Kawana with this whole love triangle, don’t mind me, I just have a soft spot for the second make lead lol. I’m not a fan of Nagawa-San, but I understand where she’s coming from. It was nice to see her finally get taste of reality and face the truth of her situation. I was left impatiently waiting for volume 9 to know what goes down between Ayukawa and Kawana’s dad! It’s just so refreshing to read a manga where the couple faces real world problems and actually works towards a conclusion with closure.
Now that the wait is over volume 9 left me so happy for Kawana and Ayukawa. Kawana’s dad finally opened up and shared his true feelings this volume and I can understand where he is coming from more. Before I just took him to be a stubborn father who was being unreasonable.
It was nice to see him and Ayukawa have a moment together. With the events in this volume I believe it truly brought our lovebirds closer, and to understand one another more. Perhaps even the whole family.
Even Nagasawa has come around and matured this volume, so proud of her for coming to the realization that she needed to let things be. This was such a good volume, it filled me with sadness, joy, and happiness all in one.
