Dick Blade ... When he's not swinging his Blade, he's swinging his Dick.

Back in the '70s, when men were men, they published a genre known as Men's Adventure, or Men's Fantasy, books that involved a lot of violence and sex. Men who had graduated from comic books did not have the luxury of video games where they could steal cars and engage prostitutes without the cops pressing them against brick walls and car hoods, so they had books like these in which to lose themselves. At the halfway mark, there is even a pullout advertisement for cigarettes. The publisher knew that if you had read that much of the novel, you might need a new deck.

The writing is a bit bumpy compared to Edgar Rice Burroughs or Robert E. Howard, who get mentioned on the back flap, but it was a real fun read. Much better than John Norman's comparable Gor series. Blade even feels a little more three-dimensional than he does in the later entries in the series. But he still has no problem becoming a sex slave to any woman who wants him while his true love is back in Home Dimension. Different area codes and all that.

Is it possible that a stuck-up Empress would bed Richard Blade within the first five minutes of meeting him? Is it possible that a few beep-boops from a '60s super-computer would send a man into another dimension? It's Men's Fantasy. If you know that going in, you might have a good time.

2nd adventure of some 37, for the intrepid adventurer Richard Blade, sent once more by the British government into the perilous X-Dimension.

Blade’s girlfriend Zoe is hassling him for commitment after hearing him call out in his sleep ‘Taleen’ (the princess he fell for in the last trip to the X-Dimension – see The Bronze Axe). Luckily Blade is saved from this sticky situation by being called upon to serve his country and enter the X-Dimension once more.

His body is hooked up to a computer and his astral form ends up in a different primitive universe this time – though of a very similar ilk to the last one. He lands in the middle of a battle between two rival races the Mongs and the Caths. He loots a body and puts on the armour then heads towards a temple – Lalli, the stunningly beautiful Jade empress of the Caths attacks, thinking Blade is her detested husband. He reveals himself, asks for her aid and they end up having torrid sex on the altar. Blade, like his name wastes no time!

He becomes the lover/slave of Lalli for a while before agreeing to one on one combat with the champion of the Mongs. If the Mongs win, they get the jade cannon they covet. If Blade wins, he gets his freedom and Sadda, sister of the Mong ruler as a prisoner. Blade wins, but is betrayed and becomes a slave of the Mongs.

Sadda takes revenge and has Blade as her sex slave. She plots to kill her brother the Khad (once her lover and now thorn in her side – he gets fits of madness every so often where he goes on a rampage, raping young girls which terrorizes the local populace) . Dwarf fool Morpho and the Khad’s chief lieutenant also both have plots to murder the insane khad... and his sister! Blade is caught in the middle of all these plots, wanted, and wanted dead by practically everyone. Despite his hatred of Sadda when she reveals she is carrying his child he finds he cannot kill her which throws a real spanner in the works because if he doesn’t kill her he’ll have to marry the evil bitch!

As ever with heroic fantasy, things work themselves out and Blade returns to the H-Dimension, not quite mid coitus as last time, but certainly mid kiss.

What can I say? Blade – is a misogynistic John Carter/Bond hybrid jumping into bed with anything female and breathing. In this one he gets made chief stud by no less than two princesses! Yet for all its political incorrectness I secretly enjoy the Richard Blade books - they are pure pulp fiction escapism chock full of battles, daring escapes, evil villains and scantily clad beauties. They’re like Edgar Rice Burroughs with added sex and violence: A fantasy artist’s dream.

Another fun romp through Dimension X. As Blade's relationship with Zoe is on the rocks, J and Lord Leighton call him back for another jaunt into the unknown. Finding himself naked and unarmed in the midst of a battle, Blade does what only he can: survive against all odds.
There isn't really anything to set this story apart from many others like it. Regardless, it's an adventure story with plenty of intrigue. Personally I thought there were a few things that weren't that creative. So the title is the Jade Warrior and jade is associated with the orient then it's no surprise that there is an abundance of the substance in this new world (they use it for cannonballs, statues, buildings). There is even a Great Wall. This wall is defended by the Caths (Cathay-ancient china). The wall is attacked by the nomadic Mongs (Mongolians) and the third race are the Caucas (Caucasians) who are known mercenaries.
These stories are similar in several ways to the Dray Prescott books. So if you enjoy an adventure hero similar to Prescott then I recommend these books to you. Although, Prescott is chaste and loves only Delia, Richard Blade is always busy with the ladies.

I enjoyed this, but then I read a pile of Nick Carter books that I picked-up at an estate sale really, really cheap. The Blade series reads a lot like Nick Carter having adventures in other dimensions, in a thoroughly seventies fashion. The central conceit, that a computer is used to send Richard Blade off on adventures through time and space, or at least alternate dimensions, is fun and the author(s) have some fun with it. I am looking forward to reading more entries in this series.

I remember this series as having more explicit sex in it. Mind you, I was a horny teenager when I read it, so I might not have the best memory of it.

Richard Blade travels to new worlds and never fails to find danger and love. Good quick men's adventure read. Recommended

The second Blade adventure doesn’t really improve much from the first. These are books intended to be popcorn-reading with one hand, if you catch my drift. There’s adventure and some surprises. The author (likely a house pseudonym for some work-for-hire toiler) knows how to keep the plot and pace moving. But that’s about the best you can say for these books.

One reviewer was right. If you have read one book from this series, you've pretty much read them all. Nothing much changes from the first book. Once again, Blade is transported to Dimension X where he sleeps with every woman he sees and kills any champion that the local nobility throws at him. The only difference this time is the setting. While the first one was a generic medieval fantasy, this one is a blatant copy of the war between the Chinese (the Caths) and the Mongols (Mongs). There is even the great wall that Mongs are desperately trying to breach. I was actually amazed that Blade never saw the connection.
All in all, pretty much the same stuff you've seen in the first one. Enjoyable trash, nothing more.
