About This Book

CAT

A science-fiction romance short-story.

8427 words

Orlgo was one of the last of a unique breed. He’d been exiled, for nothing more than existing. His species was feared and ostracized. He needed a host – required one in order to live, thrive. Because of that, most other species considered his people parasitic. He supposed in a way, maybe they were – but there was so much more to it than that. He’d given up hope – intentionally left on an abandoned space station near the outer reaches of the universe, there was no chance for him to find a host. No chance for him to survive. He’d wished day after day after day for just one chance to claim a host. Now he wasn’t so sure. Insanity had begun to rear its unavoidable head. He wasn’t sure he could survive a rejection from a host even if one was available. Then, a female crash lands on his space station. Could this be his chance? Would she fear him, or could he possibly win her over? Maybe show her that he was not what he was rumored to be. He needed to watch her, learn her likes and dislikes, find a way to present himself that would attract her to him, earn her trust so he could make her his host before she could run from him.

Chloe had been alone her entire life, learning the hard way that you could only depend on yourself. “Learn to fight alone,” the nuns at the orphanage had told her. So, she had. She’d fought relationships, fought attachments, fought society and fought the “norm.” Which is how she ended up alone on the edges of the known universe far from any of the mining planets she routinely made supply runs for – in a damaged ship – without any choice but to maroon herself on an abandoned space station. This would be home until she could manage to repair her ship. Hopefully, there wouldn’t be any lifeforms lurking that had any desire to make her their dinner, or worse. There were some things worse than death. She looked back at her ship, knowing that a rescue was unlikely. She’d managed to activate the homing beacon, so that anyone searching for her would be able to locate the signal and come for her. But that was just the problem, there would be no one looking for her. She wished she’d taken the time to connect with anyone, at any time, so someone would know to look for her.
Fate has a funny way of giving just what is needed, exactly when it’s needed and not an ounce more or a moment sooner. Whether it’s a blessing or a curse to all parties involved is in the eye of the beholder. One should always be careful what they wish for, they just might get it.

I write Paranormal, SciFi and Fantasy Romance. Why, you may ask? Romance, because who doesn’t love a good romance, and the lack of reality in the story lines - because, well, normal is highly overrated. I’m 55, I have two kids, one 32 and one 12 (yes, God does have a sense of humor), one grandchild, one husband, and a menagerie of animals. Literally, too damn many things that eat wandering around our property. I love to cook, and I am a voracious reader, though since I started writing I don’t get as much time to read as I once did. I am a homebody and prefer my writing/reading time to a crowd. I have had stories and fictional characters wandering around in my head for as long as I can remember. I started letting them out into the real world and surprisingly, people have loved them. I am a Self-Published Author, and I like it that way because I can decide what and when to write. I am by no means a formal, polished, properly structured individual and neither are my stories. But people seem to love the easy emotion and passion that naturally flow from them. A bit of a warning though, there are some “triggers” in them that certain people should avoid. I’m a firm believer that you cannot have light without the dark. You cannot fully embrace the joy and elation that my people eventually find if you do not bear witness to their darkest hours as well. So please be sure to read the warnings supplied with each of the synopses about my books before you buy them. I've got three series published at this time, Avaleigh's Boys - PNR, Whispers From the Bayou - Fantasy PNR, Haven - a SciFi, and three more in process. I’m a bit sarcastic, scathing actually, and a smartass to boot, so if I offend you, it is most likely not intentional. But be prepared because it probably won’t be the last time. I’m always glad to hear from readers; those who have followed me from the beginning, and those who have just found my people. So feel free to look me up and say hello, or just follow along; either way, I’m glad to have you.

A short, delightful story!
Chloe is alone, lonely, landing on an abandoned space station to repair her ship. She does find a bit of company - a cat...and so much more.
I like this. It’s an interesting concept. I can understand the fear generated by a being that seems to be parasitic. Both Orlgo and Chloe are alone and needing something the other can provide. The telling of their story is delightful and I really didn’t want it to end so soon!

*WARNING* contains explicit adult scenes
I first came across this little story in an anthology and was delighted to find it had become it's own little thing. I can't see much of a change in the two, however I still like Orglo very much. Just imagine that sort a parasite attaching to you. I know I'd be up for it! This little story is creatively delightful.

This story may be short, (30 min or so), but it packs a punch. I would highly recommend it. I look forward to this being a series or at least a full book in the future.

Loneliness Relieved

This was a sweet, fast read. It was about two lonely people that needed something from each other and found it. Loved this.

I liked it but wish it was longer.

It reminds me of an episode of Star Trek TNG where Dr. Crusher met the parasitic alien that had attached itself to the females of her family line for hundreds of years. The parasitic alien and being sci-fi is the only similarity between the two stories. I liked this story better because it was just his devotion to her.

I would have liked more discovery, more development that a longer story would have brought. I would have liked more dialogue more intimacy between the characters that a longer story would have brought as well. Having said that, I’m happy the author writes for herself and maybe people want what she has to offer. It would be nice if she tried to be more traditional and learn to develop her skills to the extent that a true novelist/writer would.

This “book” should not be classified as such. It has all the efforts of a teenager writing a fantasy or dream down. It’s an essay with chapters at best. It could have been SO MUCH MORE, but the author didn’t give it what it deserved. Neither will I.

I gave it three stars because it was an okay read. I was tempted to give it four stars because I liked it so much. But I don’t want to give a false impression on this book. It’s taken me longer to write this review then it did to read it. Four stars is a more optimistic view of this book then the reality. Buyer beware. Enjoy if you can.

I only finished it because it was so short. In it a woman was having trouble with her space ship, so she docked at what she thought was an abandoned space station. On the station, an alien was living/hiding. It was a being mostly of energy, almost no physical mass at all. And yet, when the woman took a shower, the alien was so turned on by her butt and breasts. Pages after pages of description of it watching her shower and lusting after her body. Why would a space alien with nearly no physical mass at all (no body, no limbs, just a small lump of mass) think humans were sexy?

Then it actually got worse. It took the form of a human man and raped her during the night (god, the description of this went on for so many pages). Then the next morning she confronted it, and because it had a sexy smile, she forgave it and the two lived happily ever after.

An amazing Short Story

I have read all of Ms. Neeley's book, and it is amazing how she brings her characters to life. You have no other choice but to love them. Orglo , is the last of his kind, he is exiled on a planet, but he needs a host to survive. Without a host he will die.
Chloe is loner and has felt unloved or unwanted since she was a child. She has learned to fight Her own battles until her spaceship breaks down only to land on the same planet Orglo is on. Only instead of Orglo she befriends a cat.
Will Orglo finally find his host? Will Chloe reject him? Who is Cat? You really need to read this short story and find out what happens. I highly recommend it.

A delightful and fascinating story about a lonely alien

I found this story about a lonely alien who was the last of his kind finding a human girl to love both delightful and fascinating. The alien is on an abandoned Space Station that a girl captain of her own spaceship finds when the spaceship needs repairs. She thinks when to find this alien cat that it was abandoned too. She began to take care of it. But the aliens soon morphs into male form when he realizes that she is his mate.

The characters of the story makes this simple plot truly unique of how falling in love can transcend boundaries normally keeping them apart. I love this story and we'll keep an eye out for more books by the author.

Highly recommended for a short alien and human love story.

Orglo is a interesting character. He can become whatever his host needs and is really not a threat to the host. However that is not what most think and Orglo has been alone on an abandoned space station for years and has give up ever finding a host. Then Chloe lands in her damaged space ship and all of Orglo's dreams seem to come true. First he appears as a cat and then as Chloe's dream come true. This is a interesting short story with two well developed characters well worth the time you need to read it.

Very Short

We already know it's a short sorry, but know it is very short. I knew this when I bought it, but feel it should be mentioned. I think it's a cute little sci-fi romance with little depth. I still feel the characters, and it all happens in a short amount of time, maybe a week or two.

I have discovered this book is part of an anthology. If you're looking for a better bang for your buck, look up "Words to Dream By: An Adult Bedtime Stories Collection." You get at least 20 stories (this one included) for $4 versus one for $1.

This made me smile

A pretty good sci-fi type short story about making choices. I like Sandra Neeley for the simplicity of her characters and the way she quickly gets to the point of the story. This was especially good because it was short while being entertaining and still making you think. Would I? Could I make the same decision? Great story!

Little, Cute Story

About a lonely life form, a lonely woman and their cat. I love Sandra R Neeley is books; at least the two I've been introduced to so far (Haven and Whispers from the Bayou). They made me get this story on a whim. I wasn't disappointed. BTW, the cat description in the first (fragment) sentence is a red-herring. Read it; you'll see.

Wish this were longer

Very good short story. I’ve read many of Sandra Neeley’s other novels and loved them, so I know this short story would have been a great full length book in her capable hands. Fast and sweet read.

I enjoyed reading this short story about Orlgo and Chole love relationship. She had a bad childhood in orphanage. I feel that these two were destine to meet and have a sexual intimate relationship. I would like to know if they have children and do other people crash in their planet?

Good short story

Very short, but clearly defined both characters. Just wished it was much longer-what happens to the couple long-term, etc. (Since he took on the form of a human, were they truly biologically compatible now?)

Really cute short romance.

Love sci-five romance? This will be right up your alley. Its short but intriguing and I for one could see it becoming a prequel for a series. Its not at this time but who knows maybe the author will expand this world.

Interesting species

Good base idea. Needs more meat, more character development, more...everything really. But, an interesting character concept and overall idea. Nice starter novella.

I know this was just a short, but I loved it. The book flowed but never rushed. While she was unaware of him, he did all he could do to make her happy. This short is a must read. I do feel you’d fall in love with it too.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I saw a lot of the reviews with lower ratings simply because it was a short story. It baffles me because it specifically states that it is a short story. I went into it expecting that and really enjoyed this delightful quick read.

So I was curious how this was going to play out and left disappointed. It was EXTREMELY short with no build up. It could have been so much better.
