Crown Prince Alik of the Grayhaven kingdom is the last remaining heir to his parent's kingdom.

He knew this day was coming, the day that he would be forced to marry, but he didn't know that it would be so soon.

He has only one request: That he might be the one to choose his future spouse from the royal family his parents have in mind.

Crown Prince Eamon of the Ataton kingdom is the eldest of four siblings.

He is known throughout the lands as the Barbarian Prince, the Bladebringer, the warrior prince that brought a temporary peace to his lands.

He has only one wish: That he and his family be happy, whatever the case might be.

When the Princes meet, they clash, but could it be something more?

With an encroaching enemy breathing down Eamon's neck and his siblings to think of, will Eamon make the right choice for not only him, but his family, and kingdom as well?

As Alik begins to map out his future and take on the mantle of King, will he be able to let go of his past to move on to something greater than he could hope for?

The Royal Houses of Sea and Snow, Book I: A Prince's Duty is the beginning of a new series from Jude Marquez. It can be read without having read the previous trilogy, The Cerith Kingdom Chronicles, but does reference events from those books, so read at your own risk!

Book I does end on a cliffhanger, and readers can expect steamy MM sex scenes and violence appropriate to a medieval kingdom right before a war.

Had to force myself to finish. Felt like the MCs actions and words did not match. Also an editor is needed as the redaction is bad.

Again

I expected this to be like the previous series and was not disappointed. The life of being royal is filled with lies deceit and plots to kill and maim. This ended on a sad note so looking forward to the next one!

The plot is straightforward and the characters not particularly deep, but I’m interested enough to read the next book. Could use an edit to fix some formatting and grammar issues, but it was mostly clear what was intended.

This is for me more of a 3.5 stars than 3, but I really really enjoyed some parts and some others confused me. It was very ups and down, but I might still continue the trilogy.

What I enjoyed was the whole cast of characters. I truly loved to see Alik meet Eamon's family, their interactions and the wolves as well. The way Alik slowly decides to discard one after another option for his marriage until he is left with Eamon was pretty interesting, and the contrast of Alik and Eamon (who was mainly awkward more than cold) was quite enjoyable. Even the protectiveness from Eamon was a nice addition, even if seemingly Eamon did not trust Alik particularly before.

Still, the novel is full of mistakes. I remember at one point there was even a wrong name, which I only noticed because it was something like "Eamon said this to Eamon". Usually I do not mind, and in this case I did not mind too much but... the book sometimes was just jarring. It seemed like parts were missing or the plot suddenly changed.
At the start we are introduced to Eamon and how nervous he is about the marriage, his fears, his doubts - but then we do not see much of it at all. Then the story takes a cute romance, and I was ready to immerse myself into it until

This is my absolute favorite trope. Kings, princes and arranged marriage. The MCs are wonderfully crafted and different, yet they complete each other so well, what a formidable power house couple they will be. Alik and Issat's banter was hilarious, I love their relationship. Actually all the supporting characters were great. Eamon and his siblings bond was so special and I hope Edmond s faith wasn t the one we are told here. I refuse to accept it. Eamon's father was confusing, bc in the beginning the author wrote him like a good king and father, so different than Alik s father but after the 2kings meet you couldn t distinct one from another: both drunks, arrogant, agressive and didn t care much ab their heir. Same with Alik s soldiers, the author couldn t decide if they were loyal or not to Alik. It was said at one point that the trupes respect Alik more than the king, later Alik said he couldn't trust anyone and that his homeland was basically populated by toxic, ruthless ppl, he also agreed his soldiers were lazy, arrogant and deceitful🤷🏻‍♀️Make up your mind.
With all of these minor inconsistencies I enjoyed this very much until the end, that s the part that made me take down a star. With such loyal, strong, fierce knights and a pack of wolves we re expected to believe the kingdom was taken by invaders in the blink of an eye. Considering they knew something was brewing how in God s name were they so unprepared?! The whole ending made no sense and it ruined my overall enjoyment. That said I will immediately pick up the next book, hopefully for me it will be a 5 star.

God damn that was an intense ending. I absolutely did not expect what happened and I am still shocked.

I don’t know how to phrase any of this without giving away what happens so this may sound odd. I was prepared to give this story 4 or 4.5 stars up through like 95% (mostly because it needs some serious editing), but I was absolutely blown away by the end. I cannot wait for the next book and just have no idea how I’m going to feel about it...it’s going to be so different. Still processing. Wow.

Second book by this author that I've stopped reading in as many hours. The pacing is just abysmal. Characters are bland and without depth. 1/10 for this author.

A hidden gem

I grew up reading historical romances and I often forget just how much I love them. So when I pick one up, I immediately lose myself inside another world. I was completely and utterly swept away by this story and these characters. I loved Prince Eamon and his siblings. Alik took a little warming up to but he proved himself to be worthy of leading with Eamon. The ending was shocking and heartbreaking but it's making me run to click the next book right now.
