What a simply fabulous read!!! I love this series by gena showalter. In Frost and Flame we pick up with bane and nola lee and their story. Nola Lee has fibromyalgia and lupus which has made her weak and constant pain but when she's with bane her pain subsides and his presence is making her stronger everyday. Bane will protect nola lee because she is the means to getting his revenge for the murder of his wife,but the more he's around nola lee he see's that not only does she have a good and kind heart but she also has a heart of a warrior. Their alliance is testy at first,but soon heats up and it consumes them both with a burning hot flame and the beast will gladly surrender and lay not only his life on the line but his heart as well to this queen to be. Reading is a way to get away from everyday life, even it's only for a little while and when you can identify with a character like I did with nola lee it's even more enjoyable. I have both lupus and fibro for over 25 years and I understood the pain and the isolation and the weakness that these diseases bring. But the over all the message for me with this book is that love does bring out the best in all of us and can even bring healing of not only the body but the mind and spirt too. Gena showalter is a fabulous writer and a amazing storyteller and this is just another example of her talent. And it's full of steamy hot passion and humor. Can't wait to read more of this series!! Well hot diggity damn, this was great! I'm so happy I gave this series another shot after not quite connecting with the first book, because this one officially hooked me. The connection and chemistry that I found lacking in the first one was absolutely incendiary in this one. Pun intended.

I was so curious about Bane and Nola's book from the second they appeared inShadow and Ice. The story here runs parallel to the one in the first book. But I will say that if you haven't read the first, you may struggle in parts. This story doesn't go as much into depth into some of the background given in the first, so I'd definitely recommend giving that a read before diving into this one.

Bane was a hero that was impossible not to love even if his hot and cold behavior did make me want to jock punch him more often than not. A dragon shifter, he's a fierce warrior that is bound to the command of an evil queen that he's sworn vengeance on. Determined to win the third All War in order to achieve his goal, he knows immediately that Nola plays an intricate part in his revenge.

Nola and Vale are foster sisters and tight as thieves. And while I liked Vale's character, I absolutely loved Nola. There's just something so endearing about a woman that's dealing with an opioid addiction due to her fibro and lupus yet is still fierce as hell. This is not a woman that takes her situation lying down. Her body may be weak, but not her spirit. And I absolutely loved watching her fierceness grow with each chapter. She's definitely much more than a simple mortal.

The connection between Nola and Bane is instant, even though Bane fights it tooth an nail. Knowing what Nola's destiny is doesn't help this matter. Bane already loved and lost, and he's not looking to let another soon to be evil loyal get her hooks in him. But the more time they spend together, the more he sees just how different Nola is.

As per usual Showalter fashion, the quips and zingers are on point. With a splash of her signature humor and banter, the romance was everything I needed! I loved the internal monologue and I absolutely loved the two of them together. There's a secondary character introduced that I can't wait to learn more about, especially with the twist you learn in the end. I'm happy to report that while I felt overwhelmed with the sheer amount of information and too many characters in the first book, this was nothing like it. There was just enough story and plenty of romance to make this an absolute page turner. I did wish we got a little more in the end there because it did feel like it wrapped up much too quick for all of the build up, but it was still satisfying. I'm thinking we'll be getting a little more on these two in the next book, but even if we don't, there's still a satisfying enough conclusion.

The heroine: Nola Lee - she was raised in foster care with her sister Vale, Shadow and Ice. Nola was weak and sickly, suffering from Lupus and Fibromyalgia which flared up often, causing her terrible pain and left her addicted to opiates. She often dreamed of a golden God who spoke to her and called her princess.

The Hero: Bane - He was once dating Avalene, the woman that would one day become queen of his world. After becoming Queen she broke the engagement after she changed into cold, callus and evil queen and luckily she no longer wanted him. Though he was bound to her since she was his queen, he was forced to obey when she called on him. He married another warrior, named Merideth and was happy and his beast was kept at bay, he had retired after winning two “All Wars” for his queen.

The Story: When Bane’s queen ordered him to compete in another All War on a planet called Terra, he declined. Though after she had his Merideth killed, he had no choice. She said that she knew he would win, if only to return and try to kill her for what she did. She was right, he was now determined to win the All War, a demi-god filled fight to the death for the rights to rule the planet. However, after just a short time at war, all the demi-gods were frozen in ice somewhere in Russia.

Bane appeared in Nola’s dreams and he lured her to Russia on vacation with her foster sister Vale. While lost in the snow, they came across the frozen warriors and the warriors finally escaped their icy prison after 1300 years. Nola was taken and protected by a warrior named Zion, whom she became friends with, while her opioids wore off and she went into withdrawals.

This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. The narration was done by Melissa Moran and Robert Petkoff. Melissa Moran has a youthful feminine voice and shows emotion through her voice very well. I like her voice and her style. Robert Petkoff is good at using different voices for different characters and does a great job as well.

I thought the first book in this series was a bit too complicated with the All War and how the rules started a second then a third and all the different combatants, their powers and their specialized weapons. I just had a lot of trouble keeping up with it all. Though since this is the second book, I didn’t that same issue, so this was the better book.

So this is the second book in this imaginative new series and this time around we are experiencing foster sister Nora's story.
I actually connected with this story much more than its predecessor and rated this one much higher.
I think that maybe for a multitude of reasons. one biggee being that Nora herself is a lupus and fibromyalgia sufferer.
I myself have fibro so I really felt able to identify with her on a huge level.
I could feel her struggles and easily walk a day in her shoes this really helped me to understand her mindset.
So brief recap Earth is a gladiator arena where representatives from each realm get to battle to the death for planetary ownership.
We are smack amid the 103rd All-war and only one victor can emerge triumphant for there king or queen all else will die.
So Bane of Adwaeweth is the champion from his world.
Sent here by an unscrupulous Queen who murdered his wife in cold blood he lives for his vengeance.
This is where Nora comes in a princess with the ability to become a Queen Bane needs her to despose and annihilate his hated ruler taking her place at the helm.
The males of Bane's world all carry an inner beast, a fearsome and murderous dragon that only a Queen can keep reined in and shackled.
Bane originally and wrongly pegs Nora as weak and treats her initially quite abysmally.
He also feels drawn to her which he battles at every turn, feeling disloyal to his dead spouse.
His inner dragon also seems to have a beef with her so her obstacles to overcome seem just so immense.
He does eventually come to realise that strength of character and spirit can be just as formidable as the brute force he has previously admired and that might comes in many forms.
I liked that Bane tries to compensate for his previous contempt and that he was able to admit when he was in the wrong.
I adored the dynamic between Nora and Bane and also the friendship with Zion who for his own personal reasons seemed to just want to help her.
We also get to see all the bits we wondered at from the previous book which was fab.
this really was a really great addition to the series and I enjoyed myself here very much.

Frost and Flame is the second book in the Gods of War series and this book was just as intense as the first book "Shadow and Ice" but it was so different from the first book. I fell in love so quickly with Shadow and Ice so I was apprehensive about this one. I have had the physical copy on my bookshelves for a YEAR now, but quite frankly I have struggled picking up print romance fiction especially lately so when I saw my library had the ebook I decided to grab up the digital copy and read it out on my kindle oasis and I was swept away by this story and such a fantastic book and so grateful I finally took a chance on picking it up especially when I was in the right mood for this type of read.



Frost and Flame is on the same timeline as "Shadow and Ice" so it can be read as a stand a lone although I would recommend reading Shadow and Ice first if possible. Our story begins with our hero, Bane. Who is a warrior for his queen of the Adwaeweth, an immortal and the fiercest of their kind. But when his wife is murdered by his queen, he vows vengeance but first he must win the All War. But when he is frozen in ice, there is one who can free him....the one woman who is his weakness and his way to freedom. But can he do as his queen commands....or is she his future and liberty? Nolalee, unaware of who she really is, is a woman that is sick and addicted to the drugs that help with her sickness but she is determined to get away from her addiction and be more empowered in life until she is swept up in the all war of all types of beings who come from various worlds all over the galaxy. But despite her battle with Bane, there is a potential and royal lineage that she will need to embrace if she plans on surviving.

NEVER, IN ALL his days, had Bane been this hard, or ached this intensely. After everything he’d suffered over the centuries, he deserved sexual release with the most beautiful female he’d ever beheld. The woman who maddened him beyond all reason.

WHEW....this book was so powerful in so many ways and I just got a kick out of this one. I didn't know what to expect from this book to be honest. I remember these characters of course, especially since they are so connected to Vale and Knox BUT this other side plot was so fascinating and I really liked that it was on the same timeline as Shadow and Ice. Even though Hunger Games was never really a thing for me especially when they were released, Gena Showalter has really stepped it up with these books. I love seeing this all war come out and the various characters that come into play here. I will say that Frost and Flame was so unique in so many ways. The first if the two plots. And yes I would say that there is. Of course first we have these creatures that are out trying to kill each other and trying to survive the best they can but the other plot is with Bane and Nola. Now at the first of the book you are horrified in seeing what happens to Bane's wife. Its really so heartbreaking but I can see why the author placed that scene in, because it really sets the stage for EVERYTHING that goes on with Nola and Bane. Nola is much more connected to Bane and his queen than you realize at first. Nola has had such a tough life, but a life that was necessary in order to give her the strength to embrace her destiny as queen. Her road is going to be tough, but we see how much she and Bane rely on each other. Once we get past the angst between them, and they start working as a pair, their partnership together is simply beautiful in so many ways. I think what I was so stunned in was seeing these two gravitate towards each other in such a way that makes you see the deeper parts of themselves.

Being so close to Nola...breathing in her honeysuckle and jasmine scent, home...touching the silken softness of her skin...watching her ruby lips part, and the pulse quicken at the base of her neck... He’d raced from reality to fantasy, starved for everything she had to give.

And if you love a great building plot ....look no further than this book here because dang.....Gena Showalter surely knows how to write her plots and this one was intense and crazy and will have you as the reader addicted and hooked on it and wanting more. From beginning to end, this author will keep you on the edge of your seat and you won't get enough of this story that pulls you in completely. I was so hooked on all of these characters involved here, and I adored both Bane and Nola. I was really curious where Showalter would lead us, especially with the sub plot of the queen but I can say the ending STUNNED me in ways I didn't expect. Don't worry all I will say is it does end up in a HEA, but whew what a finale that brings these two their beautiful ending.

I am very curious where this author will go from this series. I was expecting something from her about book three, but only thing I have heard is going self published with the third book. *crossing fingers* she will be the type of author to do self publishing right and I won't be disappointed with the cover or story or editing.



Overall I found Frost and Flame to be a vibrant and thrilling read that had me engaged from the beginning, its a story that will lead the reader on an adventure of a lifetime....sensational in every way!

This is such an interesting series. The hero, Bane, is a combatant in the All War; a war where there is a member from each realm sent to fight to the death to claim a new realm. Bane is Adwaewethian, a race where the males are possessed by a beast that they transform in to. He is chosen to compete, but also to locate a royal and eliminate her. Nola is a sickly human who finds herself smack in the middle of an otherworldly war, not knowing that she is a hybrid royal. I loved Nola! She was snarky, but also insecure while Bane is a brute and takes no prisoners. The interactions between these two are hilarious. Looking forward to reading more in this series.

I’m going to cut to the chase with this book. First off, I was looking forward to diving back into this world because I really enjoyed the first book of the series. However, I have discovered something about the writing in this book. As a fan of Showalter for many years, I can safely say that I have read quite a bit of her books so I am familiar with her writing style. However, it seems that she is changing up her style quite a lot in this series and to be honest, I’m not really sure how I feel about it.

The narration felt really choppy to me, making it a little difficult to get into. I also found the book to be extremely predictable this time around, which is strange because Showalter usually keeps readers on their toes. But I knew a character was going to die almost immediately after they were introduced, so I don’t know if it was just me or if the book really did feel too foreseeable.

However, I am going to keep trying the other books in the series because I like the premise of the series. It has an Immortals After Dark feel to it, so if you like Kresley Cole’s paranormal writing, then I think you will enjoy this. But the writing style of this book felt more like Cole’s YA series, the Arcana Chronicles, which I actually wasn’t a fan of. So I guess I will have to learn how to deal with the chopping style.

So while this book wasn’t a total hit for me, I am still looking forward to seeing what Gena has in store for her readers next.

I have been looking forward to Frost and Flame for the longest time as I loved Knox and Vale in the first book immensely. Nola Lee and Bane were delicious. I loved how their relationship almost seemed kismet and how their story ran parallel to the first book. 

While this story was great, I will admit that I was not as connected to them right away. I was mildly frustrated that neither Bane nor Nola Lee were ever really together for long periods of time for almost half the book. The constant teleporting minutes after they were reunited was a bit frustrating as I was hoping to see so much of the banter I loved in book one. I wanted to see and feel their connection earlier. Overall, though, I enjoyed this story and another story in the Gods of War series. I look forward to more books in this series. 4 stars! ~Ratula

Frost and Flame is very unique compared to the Shadow and Ice novel. The story begins with the awakening of immortal warriors from their prisons, and Vale and her sister, Nola, witness the scene, trapped in a cavern in Russia.

So Nola has been dreaming about a man for years. His name? Bane of Adwaeweth. During some time of the book, she finally sees him in person. While this happens Vale, Nola's sister is captured by Knox. However, this novel isn't about Vale ladies and gentleman, its about Nola. Anyway, so Bane of Adwaeweth is a shifting beast dragon warrior. Later in the book, we also find out that Bane is a vindictive bastard and is using Nola for his vengeance against his evil queen. However, he begins to feel something else than rage....he actually begins to feel something in his black as coffee heart....yeah I know right... shocking.

So readers, if you are having a serious hard-on for a book right now, you have come to the right place. Frost and Flame by Gena Showalter is a dark and erotic novel that shouldn't be taken lightly. However, if what I described is your type of shit, then you should order the book right now. The hearts unravels, cringe lovable scenes are read, and curses are thrown at the author for not writing more, while pleas to heaven are cast for another book to come soon.

Frost and Flame runs pretty parallel to Shadow and Ice’s timeline. Both Vale London and her sister Nola Lee find themselves in a frozen cavern in Russia where they witness the awaking of immortal warriors from their frozen prison.

While Vale is grabbed by Knox, Nola finds herself face to face with Bane of Adwaeweth, a man she’s been dreaming about for years.

Bane is a fearsome shifting warrior with a beast dragon inside. He requires Nola for his revenge plans against his evil queen, he just never expected what he found in the package Nola provides for his next potential queen.

Gods of War is a dark, bloody and an erotic series. Showalter balances the individual personalities’ darker sides with humanizing them with humor and real-life problems to the reading audience.

Frost and Flame was quite riveting, with white knuckle reading and cringe worthy battles. Although this is not a story for the lighthearted reader, I highly recommend this book to any reader that likes some darkness in their paranormal romance.

HOLY GUACAMOLE! Where do I sign up to be Nola (the heroine)’s best friend?? Move out of the way Vale (she’d probably punch me in the face for saying that, but WHO CARES?) Gena has done it. She’s written one of my favorite heroines! Nola’s body might be weak, but her spirit is stronger than ten dragon shifter aliens.

Nola is dealing with an opioid addiction due to her fibromyalgia and lupus. On top of that, she’s suck is a centuries-long gladiator/greatest race-ish battle between alien warriors. Girlfriend has a lot going on, to say the least. She’s stuck with Bane, a sexy but angsty dragon shifter who wants to use her to defeat the queen who has enslaved him and killed his first wife. Sound intense?? Well, it’s even more than you think!

The romance is a hot push and pull between Nola and Bane while they’re dodging deadly queens and even deadlier fellow contestants. Does this story have delicious sexual tension and banter? OF COURSE. Does it have Gena’s signature hilarity? Absolutely!

While many people liked this book more than SHADOW AND ICE, myself included, you really need to read in order. Ms. Showalter did the seriously hard work of laying the groundwork of an epic series in book one and book two runs parallel to the first. You might be a little lost if you just dive in with this story. Over it. I will say he makes up for it in the end!

Overall, we bow down to Queen Showalter for this book! There is a reason she’s one of the reigning badasses of paranormal romance, and this book is in my top five of her fantastic collection of work.

Ich habe mich schon sehr auf das neueste Buch dieser bekannten und sehr beliebten Autorin für Romantacy gefreut und habe mich gleich nach dem Erhalt des Buches ans Lesen gemacht.
Bei dieses Roman handelt es sich um den zweiten Teil der Gods of War Reihe.
Durch ihren gewohnt fesslenden und eingängigen Schreibstil schaffte sie es auch dieses Mal wieder mich sofort in den Bann dieser Geschichte zu ziehen.
In diesem Buch geht es in erster Linie um Bane, den die grausame Königin für ihre Zwecke ausnutzt und mißbraucht. Daher zögert sie auch nicht ihn auf eine Mission zu schicken, bei welcher es keine Wiederkehr geben könnte. Bevor er aber in den Kampf ziehen kann, wird als eine Art Machtdemonstration auf Befehl der Königin seine Frau getötet.
Ein Mann wie Bane, läßt so etwas nicht ungerächt. Er sinnt auf Rache an der Königin und plant daher eine der Prinzessinnen, welche er im Auftrag „entsorgen“ soll, selbst zur Königin zu machen um somit die Macht der alten Königin zu brechen.
Leider hat er den Plan mit dem Kopf gemacht, aber was wenn das Herz eigene Pläne hat?
Was mich ein wenig stört an den den Romanen der Autorin sind diese Klischees. Denn alle Männer sind Stereotypen, groß, kräftig, sexy, perfekt und sind sich vom Aussehen und Charakter her ähnlich. Ebenso geht es mit den Frauen, Modellmaße, wunderschön usw. Irgendwie findet man keinen einzigen Makel, alle sind einfach perfekt. Ich fände es toll, wenn man auch mal den einen oder anderen Charakter haben würde, der eben nicht wie aus dem Katalog wirkt sondern eher echt und greifbar, wie wir Leser. Wir sind doch auch nicht perfekt und dennoch liebenswert.
Das ist eine Sache, die mir oft beim Lesen solcher Roman durch den Kopf geht. Wird man nur begehrt und geliebt, wenn man perfekt ist? Was ist mit den anderen 99% die es eben nicht sind? Das finde ich etwas schade. Warum nicht einfach mal ein Buch schreiben über jemanden wie dich oder mich?
Aber das nur mal so am Rande.
Die Handlung des Buches baut sich langsam steigernd auf und ebenso die enthaltene Action doch nach mehr als der Hälfte des Buches hatte ich den Eindruck, das Blatt würde sich drehen und die eigentliche Handlung in den Hintergrund treten um dem sinnlich erotischen Teil Platz zu machen. Wodurch der Handlungsstrang leider in den Hintergrund gedrängt wurde und ein Nebenbeithema wurde.
Dennoch verbindet die Autorin auch in diesem Buch actionreiche Szenen mit leidenschaftlich erotischen Elementen und schafft so ein brandheißes und spannendes Buch. Wer Literatur dieser Art liebt, wer Fan der Autorin ist oder noch werden möchte, ist bei diesem Buch auf jeden Fall bestens bedient. Zur Geschichte möchte ich eigentlich an dieser Stelle nicht zu viel verraten, lest einfach selbst. Ich habe dem Buch 4 Sterne gegeben.

Sometimes I can't wrap my mind around the fact that I'm read a different series by Showalter's. I'm so use to the other series, Lords of the Underworld that I have to pause and think for a second. Ha! don't you love when that happens? I'm sure as time goes on I'll start seeing this series as it's own.

If you read the first book in the series then you've been waiting on this one. Frost and Flame happen at the same time as Shadow and Ice. So at times, you have an overlap of the two stories. Love when that happens in a series.

Frost and Flame for me is slightly darker of a paranormal romance than Shadow and Ice was. I think you need to know that going in. Sure, it is just as good and Shadow and Ice, just heavier. You'll understand when you read it.

Even though at times I felt that Bane is heavy-handed and closed off, I liked him. Weird, I know. I don't know why but he isn't that bad. It's mostly on the outside, inside he has a softer more caring side that I enjoyed. He just needed someone to remind him of that softness.

I also enjoy Nola. She has so many health issues but carries on like a champ even when she's not treated very well. There are layers to her that took Bane a while to pick up on. I liked the idea of him being in her dreams before they meet. It's like their story was written in the stars. Their story was well worth the wait. I really enjoyed it!

I loved this book. Great sequel to Shadow and Ice. Bane is one strong, sexy and sweet (alpha) hero and Nola was a kickass, smart and strong willed heroine. I loved them both and I’m so so so excited for the next book. This just keeps getting better.

An OK story from Kresley Cole...oh wait, it’s Showalter, is too phoned in to be anything really more than standard here. Way tooooo cutesy H/h and predictable bad-girl-go-boom for the last few chapters drop down the enjoyment, too.

The fast paced plot is full thrilling suspense that has readers biting their nails and adrenaline pumping excitement that has gasping in surprise and expectation along with all of kinds of twists and turns that ensures that readers better not blink or they may miss something important.

The characters themselves are strong, bold and easily grab readers’ attentions and the relationship between Bane and Nola is as complex as the war taking place. There is nothing typical in this story and every time readers think they know what will happen next…BAM, something unexpected happens. Beware, this story can be read as a standalone but takes place consecutively with the first one and of course the overall plot of the series isn’t one hundred percent complete.

If you are a fan of Game of Thrones, then you will get some of that show mentioned in this book. I loved it. (Even though the ending of GoT still has me mad.) This book ends up better than GoT’s ending though. 🙂

Now I’m anxiously waiting for the next book because I want to know which warrior gets his/her book in the series. I’m hoping it’s Zion because readers will get to know him better in this book.

This book took me a week to finish. I had no problem setting it down and doing something else. We just didn't get along. Plus it wasn't until the very end 90%ish that it caught up to the ending in the first book. That's a big peeve for me. I did enjoy the first book so I'll give book three a chance before I call it quits on this series.

Safety - The opening scene in the prologue was him and his wife getting busy. She was killed shortly after that by the evil queen who was also an ex lover before she became queen.

Frost and Flame takes us back into the All War and to the moment the warriors all wake from their ice prisons. We got Vale's story in Shadow and Ice. Now it is time to get Nola's adventure.

Nola is not in the best of the health, but has been looking forward to this trip to Russia for a long time and is not going to let her problems get int the way. However, getting lost and a runaway guide have left her in a position where her illnesses could really leave her in a mess. I thought Nola's conditions were very deep to look at and see through the sufferer's eyes. I think Gena did a great job of creating Nola's character with all that her health issues entailed.

Frost and Flame gradually showed us new things that related Nola to the All War. She is not just some human who stumbled across an ice cave full of warriors. Bane knows this and has been secretly planning his vengeance using Nola for many years. During their story, Bane slowly comes to realize that vengeance is not what he wants from Nola. I felt like there was a lot of jumping from place to place to avoid the war and concentrate on the pair. We read of fierce training Nola goes through, but I didn't really imagine how intense it was until the final battle with Queen Aveline.

I did feel like Frost and Flame was a bit choppy, but I loved seeing the relationship between Nola and Bane bloom. I may have missed the explanation, but I was not really clear on why Bane had the effect on Nola that he did when it came to her illnesses. Especially if there was another with Adwaethean blood in their circle, you would think that person would have had the same effect. If you picked up that piece, please let me know in the comments what the explanation was.

Frost and Flame brought us characters with the same sarcastic and humorous traits we are used to with Gena Showalter and that is always a treat for me. It makes me laugh even in the most severe of circumstances. I am excited to see who gets focused on next in this series and how everyone works together to stop the war without joining Erik's group!

It was also a lot of fun to get a glimpse of William's story at the end. You have to love William. He is definitely entertaining!

FROST AND FLAME was everything I hoped for after getting into this series through the first book last year. While the events take place at roughly the same time as the first book, we get a whole different set of people and things going on. And the romance takes the cake.

Nola and her foster-sister Vale were traveling when they find a cave with many frozen and very attractive people in it. As they manage to escape their ice prisons, they begin to learn that they are in the middle of an All War, where aliens/creatures from other planets compete to decide who will rule the new realm. Nola finds herself with Zion, a man from a planet of men, who saves her in part because she is female.

However, Nola felt herself drawn to another man who she had been dreaming of and communicating with for a long time. Bane is from Adwaeweth, which is a planet of essentially shapeshifters (dragons). Each generation has princesses that could be queens. His queen, Aveline, killed his wife and sent him to the All War. Bane is determined to get revenge. Aveline had sent breeders to Earth, and so, Bane knows there is a princess/queen whom he can use in his quest.

As the action begins, there is plenty to keep the reader completely sucked in to this story. The characters were fantastic- I loved getting to know Nola and Bane. A major theme of the book is strength that comes from within, rather than that on the battlefield. Nola suffers from some debilitating conditions, and her strength on these is praised and obvious in the book. She's also got the typical sarcastic and brave attitude as other Showalter characrers, and I adore it all. Bane was an interesting character with his own world/culture that we learn about in the book, and it was easy to devour his side of things.

Overall, this was a fantastic sequel that is everything I would have hoped for and more, with great world-building, super-steamy romance, and engaging characters. Highly recommend for fans of paranormal romance- this is a series you'll need to pick up!

As much as I love pretty much everything written by Gena Showalter, FROST AND FLAME has taken a special place in my heart. The heroine, Nola, is one of my favorite characters she has created. Nola has chronic autoimmune diseases and the way her imperfect life is written is well done. The pacing of the story of perfection. The chemistry is hopping of the pages. This is one of the best paranormal romance books I have read this year.😍

Frost and Flame is the 2nd book in the Gods of War series, this book is Bane and Nola's story.
Frost and Flame has the same timeline as Shadow and Ice, but we are experiencing Bane and Nola's side rather then Knox and Vale.

I think I enjoyed this story a lot more the Shadow and Ice, while a I loved Knox and Vale, but there's just something about Bane and Nola. They made me fall in love with them more.

Nola is a really relatable character, she suffers with some different conditions and finds everyday life hard. But being with Bane makes life easier for her. She's strong, loyal and stands up for what she believes in/wants.

Bane is a Adwaeweth fierce warrior, that can shift into a dragon. He is strong, protective and wants revenge on his evil Queen that rules his world back home. But feelings start to develop between them, something Bane doesn't know how to handle.

I can't wait for more books in this series. While I enjoyed seeing Bane and Nola's relationship develop, I want to see how this story will progress and how they will handle the All War of Terra.

I'm a huge fan of Gena Showalter (the Lords of the Underworld series might be in my top 5 favorite series of all-time, although I stopped reading when William and Gilly didn't end up together), but this series is really missing the mark for me.

I love a little will they-won't they, but the number of times these two went back and forth nearly gave me whiplash. Literally, one paragraph he has finally resigned himself to loving her and the next he's like "wow, no, hate this bitch, bye". Too much. I was pulling my hair out with frustration.

It was just overall confusing too. We're here. Now we've portal-ed elsewhere. But, ahhhh, they found us. Portal again. Bane can't come this time. Now I'm with other guy. And more people. I was losing my mind trying to follow this plot line. And god, I'm kind of sick of heroines with low self-esteem like that's supposed to excuse their inaction.

It's basically the plot from her other "games" series anyways where the different races are pitted together on the island, but at a much more confusing level.

I'll go back to rereading the earliest LOTU books.

Ok, so let me start by saying that I loooove this world a lot and that the main characters in this one were just a joy to read about. I really like the characters in the series that I’ve met so far and am already looking forward to read more about them all in upcoming installments...

but somehow I also feel a bit disappointed, as I also felt when reading the first book. I feel like there’s something ‘missing’ regarding the writing in this book. It sometimes feels like there’s just not enough depth and development present regarding certain scenes and with the story line progression. It felt too shallow at times, unfortunately.

Despite that, I am a fan of the set up of it all with the All war elements, the set of characters, the amount of action combined with magical elements and of course the steamy romance that Gena knows how to write so well.

This was a contradictory read for me as there are parts I really loved but things that were quite disappointing as well. That’s why I’m giving it a 3 star rating. A 3 star rating means that I still very much enjoyed reading it but that I also have some more serious remarks. I’m still invested in the series tho and will definitely continue reading new books that the author will probably write. There are a lot of characters in need of their own spotlight and I’m quite excited for that.

So, to me this isn’t Gena’s best work but the basics of the series has such promise and despite me having remarks on some things, it was still a really fast paced read for me. I’d definitely recommend giving this series a go if you’re looking for a new PNR/fantasy romance

Bei diesem Buch handelt es sich um den 2. Teil der Gods of War-Reihe von Gena Showalter. Die Handlung spielt parallel zum ersten Teil und wird dieses Mal aus der Sicht von Nola Lee, Vales Schwester und dem Krieger Bane erzählt. Neben Nola und Bane spiel auch Zane eine größere Rolle.

Wieder geht es um einen der unsterblichen Krieger und eine Menschenfrau. Mir hat die Geschichte von Nola und Bane etwas besser gefallen als die von Vale und Knox. Gerade Nola’s Herkunft spielt da ja eine sehr wichtige Rolle, was ich sehr spannend fand. Eigentlich hasst Bane Nola ja, aber die Anziehung ist so groß, dass er nicht die Finger von ihr lassen kann. Der Erotikanteil ist wie bei Teil 1 sehr hoch und es knistert ganz schön zwischen den beiden.

Aber es gibt auch jede Menge Aktion und es fließt auch recht viel Blut. Die Handlung um die All Wars ist doch recht brutal und auch düster, was ich aber mochte.

Wer den 1. Teil mochte, wird hier wieder auf seine Kosten kommen. Weitere Bücher hat die Autorin bisher nicht geschrieben, aber es gibt ja noch weitere Krieger, die man verkuppeln kann. Auch wenn mir das Buch sehr gut gefallen hat, gefallen mir die älteren Bücher der Autorin einfach besser, vor allem die Herren der Unterwelt.

Von mir gibt es trotzdem die volle Punktzahl.

Is it because I didn't read the first book? Or am I just not that into this book? I think I'm just not that into this book.

I didn't like the characters, I don't like the choppy writing, and I don't like that I was bored. Somehow, in a world filled with something called the All War, magic, portals, beasts in people, royal feuds and humans, I was bored. What I did like was the idea - A combatant from each world is sent to battle to the death to claim a new world. It's very Hunger Games but original.

Gena Showalter is incredible at coming up with ideas, but sometimes she just can't quite make a story out of her ideas. When she does, it's a solid 5/5, as i have rated some of her other books. Just not this book.
