Cherringham #20

Kaikki tai ei mitään

Rate this book
Claire ja Terry Goodmanin elämä vaikuttaa täydelliseltä. On menestyvä firma. Poika Oxfordissa. Cherringhamin mysteerit on heidän ensimmäinen yhdessä kirjoittamansa rikossarja.

It was nice to follow Jack and Sarah sleuthing again. It was quick and light.
The mystery was well put together, easy to find out who and guess the why.

Jack and Sarah investigate a robbery that doesn't make sense. Not much in the mystery department but always fun to visit with Jack and Sarah.

I liked the pace of this short story and how, for me, it was not obvious from the beginning. Without a doubt, Jack and Sarah have proven they are not only a good team but also the best of friends. I did find that I was confusing characters, but by the end, I completely understood where the writing team was going and for once, I did not get there first.

As I always say, this is the perfect series for when you don’t want to jump into a book but want a short lite mystery to carry you over until you are ready for something more.

Follow The Money: Cherringham 20
Chronological order recommended but not necessary

In A Nutshell: Terry Goodman is a successful businessman who remains happy and true to his roots. Claire, his wife, has become sophisticated and distant from her past. Burglars enter their home despite a high tech alarm, But the break-in has the hallmarks of an amateur. Nothing of real value has been taken except for Claire's Running Away Money. And Jack and Sarah are asked to make discreet inquiries. Lovely little read.

The Protagonist(s):Jack is a hard-boiled widowed former New York City Detective retired to Cherringham. Sarah is a British mother of two, divorced techie with a design business who fled home to Cherringham. The professional and amateur join forces in the sleepy Oxford countryside. It's an unusual but addictive pairing.

One of the strengths of the book is the relationship between the older Jack and Sarah. It's not a love interest, thank goodness, but one that is warm and cosy. And I hope that does not change but the tone of this book suggests otherwise. Read and assess for yourself.

The plot is good and perhaps fiction imitating life! It really has a great twist. But my lips are sealed. 🤐

The Cherringham series are comfortable, easy reads. The plots are interesting. The characters intriguing and the world building so complete one wants to visit.

Recommended for all those who enjoy well written cosy mysteries that are light on the cheese.

This episode is an investigation instigated by Sarah's mother on behalf of a friend of hers. The friend's house was burgled of some specific things, including an undeclared amount of cash. Local law is on board with their doing an investigation and also lets them know that there have been other burglaries in the expensive area of waterfront houses. Fine sleuthing and a really twisty ending!

Love this idea of a series given in short bursts that are just the right size as well as so much more flexible than a whole novel! The ongoing sleuthing involves a retired and widowed older NYPD homicide cop who is finding life in the English countryside a fair antidote to his mourning, and a local recently divorced woman with a web design business who has returned to her hometown with her children. They make a good sleuthing pair.
Voice actor Neil Dudgeon has been an excellent asset to my listening pleasure, making sure that
I know who's talking while I do mindless things.

Entertaining and Exciting

Another cozy mystery in the Cherringham series, this one does not disappoint. The retired New York chief detective and the website divorced developer help all come right in the end in one of the best of the series.

Usually Sarah and Jack are called in to deal with a suspicious death, but this time they are asked to solve a burglary. Of course it turns out to be more complex than originally presented. The victims are not all telling the truth. Why?

Good one. Really enjoyed the ending especially. The relationship between the two main characters seems to be evolving into something different.

A good book to listen too when you clean the house. It gives you ”Midsomer murders” wibes. It is fun to try to figure out how the guilty person is. Jack is a retired cop from US, Sarah is a singel mom and they solves crime together. This one was about a mystery.

I really enjoy Sarah and Jack partnership, they 're really good at finding out the truth. This time, everyone in Goodman family truly had something to hide. But the truth came out, anyway. It always does, at the end!!
