This beautifully illustrated treasury celebrates the stories that make up the greatest saga of all time. New York Times Best-Selling Author, Delilah Dawson, retells Episodes I-VIII through Anakin, Luke, Leia, and Rey's points of view. Exquisitely bound, with artwork by Brian Rood, this special collection is the perfect gift for Star Wars fans young and old.

I'm gonna make something clear to y'all. I'm a fucking Star Wars whore. I've been watching these movies since I was about 4, and I've never gotten over my obsession with the Skywalker Saga, and the world itself. The movies always have made many fond memories for me and my family, including going to see the new sequels and Star Wars stories every Christmas, rewatching every Star Wars movie in May, and talking about memes and things in general. I loved this illustrated book version of the movies (does not include TROS but who likes that movie anyways it was fucking terrible). It actually thrilled me how I could still have the same feeling that I do watching the movies, while only reading the books. And yes, my baby ass cried when Anakin turned. (Ani is my favorite Star Wars character and deserved better 😭💔)
Y'all know me, I love my Star Wars lol So when I saw this on the return cart at the library I had to check it out :P Was a nice summarization of all the movies with artwork throughout, but sadly Rise of Skywalker wasn't included since this came out a couple months before the movie did.
Star Wars The Skywalker Saga is the story of the Skywalker family that spans from Phantom Menace to The Last Jedi. The story follows Anakin as an enslaved child of Tatooine where he is found by Qui Gon and brought into the Jedi Order to train. From there it follows Anakin and the rest of our beloved Star Wars crew such as Obi-Wan, Padme, R2-D2, C-3PO, Palpatine, Leia, Han, Lando, Rey, Finn, BB-8, and Poe on all of their grand adventures. If the reader is a fan of Star Wars, then this story will offer nothing new. It follows the movie story line exactly, which I believe was the intention.
My favorite part of the book were the illustrations. They mimic the movies well, while giving a new life to the characters. I recommend this book to any Star Wars fan who would like to follow the Skywalker journey at a slower pace by reading their story instead of watching. But I also recommend this to any new fan of the series for the same reason. Perhaps the method of reading can better connect them with the characters. Then follow up with the movies because they're amazing too!
A good book for the young Star Wars fan lacking only the last installment Rise of Skywalker. Tells the stories in order with full color pics some of which look like well done illustrations though no illustrator is listed.
Worth it is if you've got a young Star Wars fan in your family that might enjoy it again and again. And great for the fan that only likes the Star Wars movies with Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill or Harrison Ford in it.
I don't know why Goodreads only calls her Delilah Dawson for this book, but the author is in fact the very same Delilah S. Dawson who wrote two previous Star Wars books, Star Wars: Phasma, and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: Black Spire. I have read both of those books. They would be considered adult books. Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, however, is a children's/YA book. It retells the first eight episodic Star Wars movies.
(Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace; Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones; Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith; Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope; Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back; Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi; Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens and Star Wars Episode VI: The Last Jedi. If you couldn't already tell, this book was released just prior to the release of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. But I wouldn't be surprised if this book is eventually re-released with TROS included.)
Each of the stories are accompanied by illustrations by artist Brian Rood. If you've never seen any of his artwork, you are in for a real treat. They are amazing, and look almost like actual photographs. I had a great time reading this book.
The Skywalker Saga is a retelling of Star Wars Episodes I through VIII. It was released in the lead up to Episode IX, so while that explains the saga's conclusion not being included in the book, it does make the title a bit of a misnomer.
The book is definitely well-written and does a great job of explaining the story in a good amount of kid-friendly detail without being overwhelming by including every second from the films. I really appreciated how they tried to avoid spoilers where possible until the proper moments, although of course some things are unavoidable.
The biggest issue to me is the decision to call the book the 'Skywalker Saga,' but have it end with a page that basically says, 'you're not quite done, go watch the new movie.' This essentially makes it feel like a shameless marketing tool rather than a retelling of Anakin and Luke's story targeted at younger audiences. I wish the release had been pushed back until after The Rise of Skywalker so that it could really be a complete tale.
Overall The Skywalker Saga is a good read, albeit an incomplete one. I find it hard to recommend anyone of any age pick it up though, since it's missing about eleven percent of the story.
I got this book as a present, and since I had asked for it, tried to stay away from descriptions to be surprised. What I was, overall, was disappointed. What this book is, basically, is a recap of all 8 Star Wars films, in illustrated book form, joined together in one large book.
It begins with Episode 1 and goes through Episode 8. Each chapter begins with a crawl, just like the films, and the actual storyline begins at the exact moment a Skywalker character first appears, so for example, in Episode V that chapter starts when we see Luke on his Tauntun. The chapter then runs through the story to what would be the end of the film. The one interesting thing, is the chapter on the Force Awakens opens on Rey, and basically recounts the film in its entirety. It got me thinking, is she more than she seems?
The dialogue is almost verbatim from the films, sometimes condensed, sometimes with a word added or taken away.
The art was beautiful, paintings of scenes from the movies.
All in all, it was well done, I guess I just didn't see the need for a book like this, since all of the films have adult and junior novelizations already.
I enjoyed this compilation of Star Wars stories, especially the illustrations which are based on scenes from the movies. It was fun to read through in order and get the big picture of the story arc from episodes 1-8. It helps to have some background with the movies to fully enjoy this book. The stories are condensed but not overly simplified, which means there are a lot of plot points to keep up with. I don't think I would have enjoyed this as a standalone book if I hadn't seen the movies. My completionist heart wishes this book had been published after episode 9 so the full saga could be contained in a single book, but no luck.
Read through this one today. It’s a retelling of all 8 movies with amazing illustrations. If your kids are Star Wars fans and can’t sit through the movies or you just want to catch up on the stories yourself, this is a must. Did I mention the illustrations are amazing? Because the illustrations are what made this book an incredible read.
Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a summary of episodes I -VIII through the eyes of Anakin, Luke, Leia, and Rey. Almost every page has a full color illustration to go along with the text. This is not a novelization of the stories, just a recap of the main action taking place in these episodes. This serves as a good overview of the storyline.
Released before The Rise of Skywalker, this book is a summary of Episodes 1-8. With all due respect to Delilah Dawson, who has done other fine work in Star Wars, the art by Brian Rood is what makes the book worth the cost of adding it to your collection.
I would give this five stars, because this is well written and lusciously illustrated, but I was disappointed that it didn't include the last one (or Rogue One and Solo, but that's just wishful thinking; it can't include EVERYTHING!)
