Being rescued was the start of a new life for Alex. He never thought he'd live through the abuse and torment at his captors hands, but somehow he had and now he was in a town called Salutem trying to recover. He wasn’t sure if he ever would. The things he’d endured, the things he’d witnessed cause nightmares that didn’t seem to fade when the morning sun rose. Some days Alex wondered if he should have been saved at all but here he was, trying to move forward with his life when he didn’t know how to get through each day. Cyan Dubois loved Salutem and what it represented: safety. A place where shifters could feel safe and be who they were meant to be without living in fear. There was only one thing missing and that was his mate. When Cyan meets Alex he realizes that at last he’s found his mate but he needs to take his time. His mate, his Alex, had suffered and is nowhere near ready to accept Cyan or what their mating would entail. When Alex turns away from Cyan, too afraid to be the mate Cyan knows he can be, Cyan is devastated. With there appearing to be no chance of ever having a relationship with his mate, Cyan is left to wonder what the future holds for him. Could he wait for Alex to move past his fear or was their relationship doomed before it even began?
What can I say about me? I have two boys who keep me on my toes and a cat who adopted us. She walked in one day and hasn’t left. We might be getting a dog too. Who knows?
I love to read about men in love. Flawed, but strong men, who need some TLC and find their happy ending. I love to write about those same type of men too, sometimes with added kink! I also love to read horrors, thrillers and crime novels.
When I’m not trying to keep my boys in line, or writing about hot sexy men, I like to work on my allotment. I also like to read, to take walks in the countryside, and visit historical places. Recently, we went to Stonehenge and Avebury. It was an amazing experience.
This book cover attracted me and after starting this book I realized it was a spin off series from Rescue INC. by the same author. It worked as a standalone but much of the Rescue INC story was "spoiled" by reading this book first.
What I liked was the hurt/comfort aspect of this book. The trauma Alex suffered caused him to stop living but Cyan didn't give up on him. What I hated was that all of a sudden sexy time was on the table and I didn't feel that was a natural progression in his recovery. I also thought that the Cyan being a shifter was so very little of the story it felt odd. I wanted Alex to meet the animal side or at least mention what his animal is.
Overall, it was an ok first book and I'm curious who the bad guy is so onto book 2.
4.5 stars.🌟 I love this series ur I may have read book 2 first and came back to this one. The characters are gorgeous I love getting to know them as I read through the books. Well written that kept me gluded as things happened. I felt for Alex as the book insinuates what he'd had been through to be able to except love. Includes vampires, shifters of all sorts, traitor, mind speaking, rescue missions and danger sexy hot scenes. Alex (human, 22 yrs)was held in a prison by vampires and wanted to die. Cyan (cat, 34) and his team had a mission to set free and help shifters held in cells. He was also looking for his lost sister.
To my ratings: A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year), it's like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
Nice and fuzzy fluff. This was a good series starter with introducing nicely the family, town and secondary characters. Alex’s fears and anxieties are portrayed with feeling and depth, while giving the reader hope a new life is possible. I cried in parts at the loneliness and frustration Megs presented. The story moved quickly and fortunately my tears dried as quickly as Megs resolved the disparity of Alex and Cyan’s feelings and thoughts for a future. The story gave an HEA and setup the series for conflict of the series plotline as well as characters we might see get their own HEA in the series. *If you have read any of my previous reviews of Megs' books, please note in this book I was thrilled with the editing and proofreading. She, her editor and proofreader have done a good job. The grammar and verb conjugation errors in the Rescue Inc. series don’t exist in this book which made it easy for the reading to flow!
This was a sweet romance and I adored how Cyan didn’t pressure Alex and let him heal and learn to love not only cyan but himself. Trust is so hard to build after everything Alex went through but it’s a testimony to cyan that he helped brave the storm with his mate.
This book would have benefited from probably an extra 100 pages. It felt like we were meeting so many characters in the beginning (during Cyans sections) that it was hard to keep people straight. I quickly picked up on the blue name bonds and that helped organize some characters. I also think that if there was some more content between the first kisses and the dramatic fall in love it would have read a little smoother. It just felt like it wrapped up pretty quickly. However, it was still enjoyable, sweet, and filled with so much heart. I’m looking forward to diving further into this series and uncovering the mysteries of this world.
Alex was one of the humans rescued from a blood farm run by vampires and is recovering in the shifter town of Salutem although he is not sure he ever will. Shifter Cyan Dubois loves living there although he wishes he had a mate to share it with. Cyan meets Alex he realises that at last he’s found his mate but will need to take it slow as Alex has suffered enough. When Alex turns away from Cyan, too afraid to be the mate Cyan knows he can be, Cyan is devastated. Can he wait for Alex to move past his fear or was their relationship doomed before it even began?
I loved the drama of this story and the sensitivity that Cyan treated Alex with. They had a good relationship before mating which was a good foundation for the future. The developments around the labs and their ability to save other shifters were interesting. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MM story with mature content.
Was nice to see shifters in the world but this series is brand new so it will take some getting used too.
Character breakdown;
Cyan: I adored him he was such a good guy, funny and his relationship with his siblings was adorable. His patience and his willingness to wait and give space was admiral too!
Alex: I liked how he was portrayed and how it took him a while to get back to “normalcy” but it was odd to see him get so into sex again. It wasn’t rushed but it felt a little awkward.
Favorite quote: Cyan would die a happy shifter as long as he had his mate by his side or in his a**. He wasn’t too fussy which. All he knew was that Alex was the piece of him that had been missing in his life.
I cannot wait where the author will take this series and see how she will change the characters around this time.
This is a typical story of a human who was captured by vampires and nearly killed is rescued by shifters. Apparently vamps are "out" but shifters not. He's extremely damaged from rapes and physical abuse but turns out to be the mate of a feline shifter who is looking for his sister captured by some shady group capturing shifters to experiment on them. While it started with a realistic idea of PTSD and someone who wanted nothing to do with paranormal creatures, once he decided to accept the mate thing, he leapt in with both feet with seeming little effect.
So it was okay but not sure I'll follow up the series. Just didn't grab me enough.
More of a 2.5. I don't remember a lot of errors, but to be honest I just didn't find it very exciting. The first chapter/prologue (don't remember which it was, but before the rescue) was actually the most interesting part of the story and I had high hopes, but when it settled into the romance it just sort of petered out. I don't think it is the writing, I think it's just a me thing. Would try the author again.
It was my first time reading anything from this author and it was great. I loved the storyline and how the relationship developed between Cyan and Alex. I would have liked to know why Cyan and his family started working to free the slave. If it was only because Sky was taken or they started before. I think I need to read the previous series to find out. Overall, the author has me hooked. Can't wait to read more of her work and to find out who the mole is.
I thought that it was odd that no one thought of having been bugged as a first precaution against being betrayed.
As for Alex and Cyan, I thought that Alex was more than a little ridiculous, knowing whay a mate was, that he justified his rejection of the mating bond by insisting that Cyan shouldn't suffer the exact things that Alex was inflicting on him.
The story was fun, and the characters were great together, but some of the situations stretched believability.
This comes across as a jumbled mess, mostly. Random grammatical errors indicate little or no review. Events happen but there is no sense of a story line or continuity to the events. And the use of random nouns as names throws another odd angle into everything. My final impression just leaves me frustrated, not satisfied.
This is a good shifter book. No mpreg but that's okay. I liked the characters and the family. I'm excited to read more in the series. Even though I enjoyed this story I feel like I have missed some of the other series that came before because the side characters seemed to be known to everyone. After I finish this series, I will see if there is another that came first.
I just loved it. And it’s following along after the guys in Rescue Inc. I hope they will catch and kill all the bad guys eventually. Thank you for writing this great book.
Another great series start from the author and I’m new to this author and currently binge reading their work . Well written and interesting subject matter .
Enjoyable start to a new series. I’ve only just realised that I should perhaps have read the Rescue Inc series first. From the looks of it couples from RI series will appear in this Salutem series. I’m not sure what to do. Anyway, loved Alex and Cyan. My only grumble was that the story seemed to jump very quickly from Alex’s misery to suddenly he’s ready to start dating Cyan.
Was looking forward to this series since reading about it in the last Rescue Inc book! I absolutely love some of the rescue inc guys were in this book. I feel like all the intimate scenes were at the end of this book. While that’s understandable I would have liked to have a little more of those. This book did feel sort of rushed but in all it was a great story line and I look forward to more!
