The Lady in the Lake: Camelot, West Virginia, Season 1, Episode 2

Rate this book
A Tragic Kingdom

Mayor Dreama Avalon still loves her little town of Camelot, but she doesn’t like it anymore. Not since the jobs went away, the drugs poured in, and hope for a brighter future died. Widowed since her twenties, Dreama doesn’t believe she’ll ever find a man to match her beloved Beau. So she dreams of revitalizing Camelot instead. But when local beauty Gwennie Pritchard turns up dead in Dreama’s lake and the chief of police goes missing, it’s up to Dreama to catch a killer.

Roy Pendragon is a haunted man. All his life he’s tried to escape his vivid dreams of a world on fire—a once-idyllic land torn by war and burned to the ground by betrayal. In his twenties he fought for his country overseas. Now in midlife, he’s ready for a new challenge: bringing justice to Dreama’s little corner of West Virginia.

CAMELOT WEST VIRGINIA is the second book in an enchanting new series of cozy mysteries from New York Times bestselling author Emma Jameson and heartland mystery author Cyn Mackley. Because it contains more sleuthing, romance, comedy, and surprises than any one regular-length book can contain, the authors are presenting the saga of Camelot, West Virginia in serial form, just like a bingeable series on Amazon Prime. Get ready for interlocking plots, big romances, and a huge cast of characters, some familiar to fans of the Arthurian legend, some brand spanking new.

So find a cozy spot, silence your phone, and enjoy the second of many visits to Camelot, West Virginia.

DNF 67%

I tried. I really did. But I didn't connect with this installment AT ALL. I've read 67% so you'd think I know what this one suppose to be about but I don't. I'm confused by all the characters and their connection to one another. I'm also confused by the semi-magical situations that occur. IS this a supernatural book? or are the people in this town a bit "off"? I really can't tell.

So this installment, as far as I understand, talks mostly about Mayor Dreama Avalon who is also "The Lady of the Lake" ever since she got her own lake when she was younger. We get to learn a bit about her childhood, who she married and a bit about the kind of person she is now.

We also got a reminder of other characters and at least one new one who IS dealing with a mental issue (and so thinks he is a king? and wants to go back to his castle?). There is just WAY too much going on in this one in a certain sense and in another it's just the rumbling of a major who can't help but swim naked in her own lake even if she keeps being interrupted by strange occurrences.

What was the point of this episode? I thought this book is going to be a sort of half mystery how romantic suspense with Misty and Merle being our main MCs, dealing with the strange things that happen in this town and somehow making it better. I can see the mystery, I can even guess about the romance(s) and even suspense but I have a feeling we're going to get even more confused with each installment as this goes ALL OVER THE PLACE with the amount of data (and characters) we are getting introduced to.

I'm sorry, I don't think this one is for me. It might totally be YOUR thing, try it out with the first installment (which I really enjoyed!) but be aware the second doesn't truly continue the first, it's like a side story? or another plot line? another point of view? I'm saying it's complicated. Are you the kind of person who is into complicated? If you are and if you aren't I guess you'll make your own decision.

A mishmash of the Arthurian legend mixed with American rural life

A different sort of read. Can't make up my mind if this is actually the Camelot story or rural America. Yes there is a murder but it seems to have been relegated onto the back burner whilst the misfits that make up this community (or come to find it) get up to their own brand of mischief. From concrete dropped onto cars to the local police going on a rampage in the local school.
How does it all connect - not yet sure as this short read seems to have been cut off midstream. The characters are as quirky, individual as any you can find but remind me somewhat of the Dukes of Hazard mixed with The Hollywood Hillbillies by way of King Arthur.
Strange read but addictive.

Emma & Cyn do it again!

Gosh, I love the characters these writers come up with! They practically launch themselves off the page (er...my phone, haha). Can’t wait to see what happens next in Camelot!

Camelot 2

Episode 2 begins with Merle already moved into the castle and the appearance of Roy, Merle's self appointed son. Gwennie is found dead in the lake and meeting more characters of Camelot.

Historic literature references and magic

Loving the series and the characters. Well written and reasonably well edited. The hints of magic and mountain haints is enchantingly well done, not silly or tacky. Can't wait for the next one.

Serialized story, full of potential, but doesn’t quite hit the mark. Maybe it is a collaborative effort, but there just doesn’t seem to be smooth transitions between or even during events, end it just feels like it’s trying to be too many different things at once.

This has to be a the worst book I have ever read.

I have been following Miss Jameson's books and have purchased most of them. Has she gone mad? I take no joy in this review, I love her other books. Go back to writing about the good Dr abandon this senseless confusion!

Who knew Camelot was in West VA?

What a clever premise and good solid characters finding their way into odd and interesting situations. I look forward to book three. Where’s Misty in this book?

Wonderful and Mysterious

Another fantastic episode with our friends in Camelot! The more I get to know these characters the more I feel as though I have known versions of them my whole life. I can't wait to see where the authors take the story next!

Fun Read

Haven’t read short read serial books like these in a long time. Fun to read. The character introductions are such that the reader gets a minds eye view. The story line moves on fast enough. Keeping involved.
