Tarquin and Chase cook up a storm together on their YouTube show “Two Twinks Cooking.” Tarquin loves Chase, but Chase only wants to be best friends with Tarquin.
Or does he?
On the show, there’s a lot of innuendo, hilarity, and more than the love of food going on between the two boys.
Off the show, Tarquin is concerned and confused.
But the limits of their friendship are tested after their show is picked up by a large studio…and everyone assumes they are already a couple. Will they become boyfriends for real? Or is Tarquin doomed to have his love go unrequited?
That will all be up to Chase, because Tarquin knows where he stands!
I give it 5 ‘grin until your cheeks hurt’ stars I think this is Clyde’s best story so far. It was HILARIOUS! Short, sweet and engaging. With his funniest line ever. I love this man’s sense of humor. Also, every one of his stories carries a message that is sure to touch your heart. Now, I really, really can’t wait for the next one!
I truly wish that there were romantic LGBTQ+ books like this when I was an adolescent struggling with sexuality. Mr. Andrews authentically captures the intensity of High School angst and first love. I have taught high school for over 25 years, his understanding of adolescent love, loss, and drama is spot on. This is a delightful, feel-good book. A am looking forward to reading the rest of the collection. Bravo, Clyde!
This is probably just a case of "it's me and not the book" because... yeah, I had expected more.
The plot is what got me to pick this up, it looked real promising. But than I got bored: * Tarquin's financial troubles? Got it the first three times, did not need it to be mentioned that MUCH! * Of course, the story was too sweet so let's throw in some angst and bring in the miscommunication. * IMO Chase should have been the one to reach out first. * And to top it off, naturally there is the rich best friend!
The writing was done nicely making the story flow easy with some hilarious moment. Maybe one day I'll read another book in this series, but it's not high on my TBR-list.
Chase and Tarquin were adorable MC's. I loved the best friends into boyfriends angle. Very sweet and funny. Chase had me laughing at his innuendo on screen throughout.
All of the characters had hearts of gold and were so sweet. Loved this story!
This was a really fun read and something I actually know about, as I have watched many YouTube videos over the years of a similar nature. I know how much work goes into one, and I know how easily the Internet can turn on a dime, quick to love, quick to hate, quick to love again.
I love how modern this story is. YouTube is a huge part of our culture these days and can easily become a career if you're willing to do the work. With genuine passion, like how the characters are in this story, anything is possible!
Very relatable characters, very real, believable, with struggles a lot of people go through. Well worth the read, I highly recommend this story.
HW&BW is a delightful story of young love. The additional challenges of HGBTQ relationships was dealt with with sensitivity and honesty. I quickly fell in love with the well developed characters. The great story building and storyline kept me turning pages anxious to see the next thing to happen. I enjoyed the humor and the easy flow of the story. And, recipes to boot! Delicious! I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy love stories and the power of love to conquer even the most challenging obstacles.
What a great story. Clyde’s sense of humor returns in this story between Tarquin and Chase and their show “Two Twinks Cooking.” Tarquin loves Chase...is it reciprocated? I won’t spoil that aspect of the story. Clyde’s humor makes the story more enjoyable. The pace was on the spot and the characters reminded me of people I know. Quite realistic. The story is cute and if you like M/M LGBTQ stories, check this one out. I look forward to his other stories.
This just didn’t do it for me. I felt no connection to the characters, the angst was just too much, and I found zero of the jokes funny. Two stars for it being a cute original idea, I just think the execution fell flat
At first it felt like a lot of drama for such a short book but when you realize how fast time is progressing and the pressure their under you realize its just right.
What did I just read? This book was what I would imagine a middle/high school age guy who is full of angst and hormones would write. I did not feel any connection with the love interest, it felt too forced, too quickly sexualized, and then we reached the conflict way too fast. The jokes were not funny and the plot didn't make a whole lot of sense. If you read this and liked it then I'm glad, but it's a no for me dawg.
Some winner quotes from this book:
"You’re both handsome, interesting, and according to viewer polling, would make the cutest couple. Gay is the in thing right now. And young and gay is as fresh and interesting as ever." Is that what the author was thinking when he wrote this?
“If I do agree to help you, I’m not doing anything gay. No offence, but I have a girlfriend and I think my mum and dad would freak if they saw me kissing you or holding your hand or…you know…making suggestive comments about carrots or whatever.” ... “Hello there. I’m straight, ‘cause I like pussy,” he blurted. We do NOT stan a homophobic "friend". Also, wtf.
“Wow, who’s a big boy, hey Tarks!” No... just, no.
The abandoned drive-in where everyone made out at night, and in the morning used condoms littered the ground like Spring flowers after a good rain? .......... is this literature?
"To be honest, it sounded like he’d farted out of sheer fear as his bowels released before his anal sphincter could clench. Straight boys; no control." That's it, I'm done....
I am not a fan of first person narrative, but I still enjoyed the humor and dynamic of the characters. The innuendos were funny and the intimate scenes not crazy over the top like so many in this genre are. This was a good read, and I would recommend for anyone who lacks support or is feeling doubtful or afraid to be who they are. These boys have found that knowledge and acceptance, so it shows the reader that life can and does go on and get better, even when it seems grim. My only complaint was that I wish it had been longer! :<)
I read this book in one setting-you just can’t put it down when you start to read it! Clyde Andrews gives the reader more smiles with Healthy, Wealthy, and Boyfriend Wise. I laughed at the innuendos between Chase and Tarquinius! And when you add in their friend Connor and the laughs just keep coming. Even with the laughs, there’s a seriousness of friendships and boyfriends that squeezes the heart of the reader.
Yes, this story has cuteness all over it. I like the writer’s use of metaphors. And the light and slightly cheeky dialogue between Chase and Tarquin. Family and friends (even a dad) plays a positive role, and the teens, are well, just very cute. Definitely a good YA, positive story with just enough sweetness and angst rolled into a delicious story muffin.
Mr Andrews never fails to meet expectations. It's labelled a cute, gay romance and that's exactly what you get. His secondary characters have so much life and the concise nature of the story makes it an enjoyable light read. I love that this author consistently portrays responsible adult relationships with full consent, communication and protection. These stories always make me smile.
I loved this story so much. I don’t cry when I read, but I got tears in my eyes reading this! I was definitely on the edge of my seat in a few places. I love Chase and Tarks, and of course str8 boy Connor. I totally y recommend this book :D
WOW I love this I mean what’s new, but I’ve never been interested in realistic fiction like this before I came across Clyde’s work and now I greedily devour everything I can get my hands on! Who would’ve thought a cooking show with behind the scenes drama could be so interesting?????
The writing was functional. It wasn't full of typos or mistakes. But there was no space for character development, just cardboard characters moving from one improbable situation to another.
This book was what it promised, a cute gay romance. It was a short story and perfect to put my mind of things for a moment. I will certainly read more of this author!
