"Balls-deep in his hookup, Rohan Lawrence-Decker chased, not after orgasm, but the need to escape thoughts of Duke."

That was the VERY FIRST line in the book and it grabbed my attention big time.

Then, as I continued reading, this turned out to be the sexiest Anyta Sunday story that I've EVER read.

Plus, the MC's were also second cousins, so there was a bit of extra added taboo as a steamy, forbidden love twist.

At 30, Rohan was on the fast track in life, slated to take over as the head of Duke's father's highly-successful Internet company and start a family of his own.

But at 22, Duke was much less focused in what he wanted to do with his life, but passing the time with frequent hookups, garnering him a reputation as a bit of a promiscuous, spoiled brat.

While the two had once been extremely close, that had recently changed, which Rohan assumed was due to Duke being passed over by his father to run the company, in favor of Rohan, but things are never quite as they seem when attraction comes into play.

To mask his true feelings toward his cousin, Duke had gotten into the habit of using flirty comments and sexual innuendo to keep Rohan at arm's length, which worked for a year, then Rohan had had enough and decided to work through the weirdness affecting their friendship, whether Duke liked it or not.

Extra steam aside, this story had all of the ear-markings of your normal Anyta Sunday slow burn romance. MC's with a past shared history, mutual hidden desires, and a fair amount of feels.

I don't want to get too spoilery, so I'll just say that I enjoyed the snark and the banter between the two MC's, especially the first 75% of the story, where the guys went from somewhat-estranged to feeling closer once again.

The story ends with an HEA, but the ending felt a tad bit rushed for my tastes, especially when the rest of the story had close to perfect pacing.

The feel of the story was fairly light, with a minimum of angst, so I'd rate this story at 4 stars and recommend it to those looking for a feel-good, steamy, and slightly taboo read.

This book was so much fun!

I loved bratty Duke and his older (but not necessarily wiser) second cousin Rohan. Duke acts out by fucking every man within city limits (and then some). He just wants Rohan to pay attention. Duke is lusting after Rohan big time. Little does Duke know that Rohan returns his feelings.

Rohan is closeted because coming out would be a bad career move (or so he assumes) now that he's poised to take over SmallQ, a sort of life management app. SmallQ is Duke's dad's baby, but Duke isn't interested in technology or running the company. He pretends he cares, because it's easier than confessing to Rohan that he wants to rip his pants off and go to town.

Rohan's sister Casey made for a wonderful secondary character. This story is loosely related to the first three books in the series but is 100 percent a standalone.

Bonus points for the steamy scenes. Anyta can write hot sex when she wants to, you guys!

My one complaint is that the HEA ending felt rather rushed. I had a hard time believing everyone would accept Rohan and Duke's relationship so easily.

As for the second cousins becoming lovers trope? As long as they don't procreate ... *shrugs*

Maybe it should have bothered me, but it didn't.

I don't know how to tell you, but the whole "he's only my second cousin!" excuse is wholly defeated if he pretty much raised you from 12 to 18. Wtf. First that makes me cringe, and secondly there's a power imbalance here that I cannot and will not accept. Nope, definitely not for me. DNF.

I love keeping it in the family if you know what I mean. 😂 It’s just that .. the forbidden love that’s considered a social taboo appeals to me in a unique way and I’m a hopeless romantic so no wonder I’m a big fan. 😏 That being said, the sole reason this book piqued my interest is that the MCs are second cousins. (I want it even closer if I am going to get my ways 😁) But I do have some reservations about reading this book, mainly because it’s fourth in the series and I haven’t read the previous books. But the author said it’s perfectly standalone-able and my friends said the same thing so I dived in without any regret. And I’m so glad that I did because I loved this. 🥰

Duke has been in love with Rohan for as long as he can remember. But not only Rohan is older than him by 8 years, they are second cousins. And Rohan is so deep in the closet that he’s willing to marry a woman he doesn’t love just to get the job as head of the company. Duke knows his unrequited love is impossible but the heart does want what it wants. But unbeknownst to Duke, Rohan also has been pining over Duke for a long while now. It’s only a matter of time they cross the line and taste that forbidden fruit that would either unite or separate them forever.

I knew there’s going to be some angst (obviously) but I love it when authors can pull off that lovely balance between bittersweet angst and heart-tugging tender moments. 👍 It was a sweet and sensual slow-burn romance between Duke and Rohan and the delicious UST was scorching hot from the beginning. And the tease and the smut? OMG! Yum Yum Yum! 😋🔥 I really loved almost everything about this book. The only reason I didn’t rate this book five stars is the lack of the backstory behind how Rohan started to see Duke differently. We got when Duke started to love Rohan but not vice versa. That would have been a nice addiction to an already lovely story but overall, it is really enjoyable. Highly recommended if you are into light taboo stories. 😌

4.25 you are my most favorite person stars

So, the Love Letters Series is here again with book four, Daring Duke, and with it comes the Greenville boys. Another installment I read and enjoy. A lot. And... could it be, maybe, the sexiest so far? Yeah, it could be... but Anyta Sunday´s seal, that slow burn certificate she seems to own is very present too. And the combination worked magic on my reading.

First of all and because I don't know if I said so on my reviews of previous books, I love the whole idea of this invented place that could be anywhere and has that fairy tale touch and vibe, this classic essence where rich and poor live, meet and fall in love. The idea is great because it is a lovely premise for a romance series and I wanted to remark it. I like Greenville, I like the farmhouses, the manors, the people who live in it.
Here we have two rich boys tho, cousins to be more specific (ohhh, the deliciousness). Different in their life choices, different in the way the live and act but full of kindness and surprises. I loved both. I loved all the feelings buried under their facades.

It´s not a long book so I don't want to reveal too much, so I´ll just say we met Duke in previous books but he's nothing as we thought he was (my case, at least). A wonderful surprise.
And there's also Rohan, Duke´s cousin and the front man in Duke´s father business. I loved him as a brother, as a man and as a lover.

That´s it, folks, I'm finishing just noting that I LOOOOOVED the corny and OTT ending. LOOOOVED IT! Because, seriously, that's what this series is giving me: OTT moments, good playfulness, lovely characters who fall in love with other lovely characters.... And I'm gonna wait for the rest with open arms.

This book is part of a series but could be read perfectly as a standalone.

Recommended!

The fourth book of the "Love Letters" series is a tale of forbidden love between two cousins so it dips a toe in the taboo side of things.

Duke and Rohan are second cousins that used to be best friends and had a very close relationship despite the eight years that separate them. The last few years though something changed. They have become distant and Duke is acting out for no apparent reason. Rohan is on track to take over his uncle's very successful company and dedicate his life to it so he's working basically non-stop and travels a lot.

I'm sure we met Duke at Ben's book (since it's mentioned here that they used to be roommates) but I can barely remember him - it's been I while since I read the three first books. It doesn't matter though, because it was great getting to know him here. He's a complicated character with a lot of depth. He's sensitive but has learned to hide it behind snark and sarcasm so no one sees the real him. He has learned to guard his heart and not let anyone in but he misses having a family that loves and supports him. Luckily, Rohan and his family have stepped up since his own parents weren't up to the job.

Rohan is mature and responsible. He has worked all his life to become the head of SmallQ and it's finally time to show everyone his worth. He loves his family and wants to make them proud so he is prepared to sacrifice his own happiness in order to do what's expected of him. His mother doesn't get a lot of page time and I'm not sure if his father even has a line but I was sure they would support Rohan no matter what he decided to do with his life, so really all the expectations he strived to fulfill were just his own, and maybe his uncle's as well.

When the story starts they are both fighting their feelings and neither knows that the other is going through the exact same things. I'm not sure what was the catalyst for them to come clean, I think it was just an obscene amount of UST that finally it gave way and they couldn't pretent any more.

It's a medium-length story but it's got everything: well developed MCs, important side characters, interesting plot, meaningful issues and a nicely done solution along with a satisfying epilogue.

I can't say that I love the book titles for this series but the content sure makes up for that. Next up is Erik's story, I'm not sure if we've met him yet but I've liked these stories so far so I'll keep track of the ones to come. One book I look forward to is Kyle's story, assuming he gets one.

I went back and forth on whether to round up or down. I ended up rounding up because the book was super steamy & sexy. Way more than this author's other books. That though was the only thing about this book that worked for me.

First off.....the taboo part. Really not my thing. I knew it was there going in & I was leery. Since I loved this author's book Rock, I thought I'd try this. I just couldn't get on board with this though. They were raised together. Their family was close. Because of the age gap Rohan baby sat & mentored & kind of big brothered Duke. It made the whole thing a big pile of ick for me. I also think the book was too short & too fluffy for such a serious issue. It was never talked about by anyone, not even the mc's, except for their internal thoughts of "I shouldn't he's my cousin". The author kept having them say "cousin" every page or two. Sis, I get it. They're cousins. If you want this to be a taboo book though then discuss it. Just saying the word cousin doesn't make it feel edgy or whatever she was going for. It was said so much it became distracting.

I felt the book was too short. There was no real relationship building. Rohan has a fiance at their house and one day she just leaves. No reason why. No explanation. Nothing. Then they tell their parents about their relationship and walk out of the room and that's it. It's done. We never see why Rohan does a 180 flip in his beliefs. The reader has to infer pretty much everything in this story. The epilogue was kind of cheesy and OTT. Everything was just touched on a little bit but nothing was expanded or developed. Very disappointing because I know this author is capable of making me feel all the feelz.

So far this series has been two hits (books A & C) and two fails (B & D). This is by far my least favorite book by this author....ever. If you're looking for a steamy read you might like it. Their sexual chemistry is great. If you're looking for a well developed, well flushed out relationship story....this isn't it.

If I remember correctly, I hadn't had such a great experience with the last book I read by Anyta (or was it the one before last?). So imagine how wonderful it feels to have the lingering bitter taste thoroughly washed off me.

This story was rightfully filled with a healthy dose of drama, but the progress of it all was worth the heartache I had to endure.

The characters made it easy to care for them, and to root for them, which is something I'm usually considering a given when it comes to this author's work.

I don't have much to say, honestly, other than I really enjoyed this.

Poor reviews kept me away from the first 3 books in this series but the 4th one seemed more well-received so I thought I’d give it a try. Unfortunately, it became evident quite quickly that the writing style for this series wasn’t what I was looking for at the moment. This just didn’t feel like an Anyta Sunday book. I’m so confused. There was a rough edge to the writing. I’d expect a more amateur writer to have produced this. Maybe my own expectations affected this reading experience but in any case, I’m not enjoying this book so I won’t be continuing.

2.5 rounded up

I normally LOVE this author's books, but for some reason, this series just isn't clicking for me. I've read all four books so far, and even the decent ones are meh at best, which is such a disappointment since some of her other novels are my absolute favorites...

As with the other books in the series, I just don't love her writing style here. She generally has a pretty distinct and quirky style, but in this series I find it grating and jarring as opposed to charming. It' not awful, but there were a number of times throughout where I really felt like the style prevented me from fully immersing myself in the story being told.

The characters were alright (though I found myself more taken with Casey than either of the boys, TBH) and the chemistry was absolutely there, but the way things unfolded between them felt a little forced in places. I also felt like the ending was pretty rushed and handwaved "And everything turned out fine" which felt very unrealistic for the book. I didn't have a problem with them being second cousins, but I find it VERY hard to believe that nobody else would even blink an eye at it, especially when Duke's parents were so upset about him being gay, and then suddenly they do a 180 when not only is he gay, but dating his second cousin, who is no longer going to take over the family business as they'd been planning? There would absolutely be drama there.

This all makes it sound like I hated the book, which I really didn't. It wasn't a bad read and I generally enjoyed myself, but it just didn't entirely work for me.

I think part of the problem with these books is that they're not quite the length of a full novel, but they're longer than a short story or a standard novella, and I'm not really sure Sunday's managed to nail the appropriate pacing with the length she's got. All of the books have felt rushed and jumbled in places, as if she wanted them to be full length novels and then realized they were supposed to be shorter. IDK, I'm probably going to keep reading the series in the hopes that one of them wows me, but the fact that all four have been ugh to meh is definitely a bummer.

Hmm... still not a fan of the Love Letters series.

Duke and Rohan are cousins of the second degree and secretly in love with each other.
Their families were close, so they basically grew up more like first degree cousins or maybe even brothers, which is probably supposed to make the story more taboo-ish.

In the majority of countries, first-degree cousin marriage is legal, so well... Not that I'd do that, my cousin is eugh... but yeah, as long as they love each other, I don't really care. Since there are also a lot of stories with a MC and the best friend of the MC's big brother or sister, in which they also grow up like siblings, I don't find it too icky that Rohan took care of little Duke. So repeating three times a page that they are cousins didn't really help to make it more taboo.

The entire story felt rather rushed... And there were too many different things going on... Duke babysitting these kids, than the fiancé, Rohan overworking himself and putting the needs of his family over his own happiness...

This book is supposed to be about a taboo relationship, but it doesn't really approach this topic. We're just reminded that they are cousins and that they are not supposed to fall for each other. Duke's family is pissed because he's gay and Rohan can't come out because he's supposed to take on business. Then there's his fake fiancé with whom he slept in the past and didn't like it... and she's amazing but then she's suddenly gone again, because at some point Rohan apparently has an epiphany, because he suddenly does a one-eighty turn and changes everything! We just don't get to see what the heck is going on in his head and why he's suddenly doing this. The families are apparently influential, so it's also a bit weird that they are suddenly okay with their sons being in love. Well, I definitely could rant about this for a while...and it's sad, because I know Anyta Sunday can write amazing books.

This one is not amazing. I'm missing the typical Anyta Sunday vibes...

Not a huge fan

Now I am all about those taboo relationships but this was kind of...icky. Not really because they were related (second cousins) but because that was all I could see them as. They didn't really work as a couple. Most of their interactions are whatone would expect from family though without the sex (some familes at least) I got no chemistry between them. We got to see them talk but it was the same ole topics over and over again with nothing new to bring forth. The coming out to their families was rushed, like a page long rushed. They are from a family of wealth and we are just expect that both families were tots down with the gay cousins boning each other. No, notta. Plus that epiloge...what was that??? Five different things happening at once and we are support to expect it cause the story was ended in some pretty package. I love this author but this darn near killed me as fan. Duke deserved better!!

I'd assumed that I was out of step with the book's characters because I happened to pick this up before the other A, B, and C books, so I went back to read A and suffered the same fate -- I did not connect with the characters, I did not feel for them, I never really got any history about them that made me care. The conflict was never really serious (or was but the writing didn't make it seem like a big deal) to the point that I genuinely wondered what was going to happen (or, well, how they'd fix the fuck-up and get the HEA).

We did get background info on Rohan and Duke as the story progressed, and sure, I like that kind of exposition too, but it was too little, too late -- I'd already disengaged from the book by then, and was reading more to finish than to savour.

Or maybe rock really is the author's best damn work and everything else pales and seems half-hearted in comparison.

Another fun, cute and quick book by Anyta Sunday. However, this one seemed to be less well developed than the others and I didn't love the characters as much (but I still liked them). It just felt like there was something missing and I wanted way more information.

From the beginning, we know how Duke and Rohan feel about each other but in the way things happened, we can't really see the progress in their relationship because when they finally admit it to one another and seem to be going places, the book ends. Also, the side characters seemed to only matter when needed to make one of them jealously or more in love. Everything is focused on these two at the same time that nothing really "important" take place. The moment that's supposed to be the biggest one in the story just ends in a hurry. The end actually felt too rushed after a lot of chapters with the same kind of thing. And the fact that they are cousins just makes it all weirder. Even the epilogue felt short.

Because of these things, it dropped a star. (Actually, while writing this I realized I didn't enjoy as much as I've thought. It was just ok, then.)

Anyta Sunday is one of those authors where I highly anticipate their books and immediately dive right in. No reader can love every book by even their most favorite author, especially when they have such an expansive backlist of titles. This is the case with Daring Duke.

I'm a sucker for the kissing-cousins trope. There was just something about this novel that didn't work for me. I can't put my finger on it. I can't say it was the pacing or length, as it wasn't that long of a novel. But it did take me the better part of three days to finish it, because I never truly connected and immersed myself into the story.

Have no idea why it didn't work for me, but it didn't. That being said, I cannot wait to get my greedy paws on whatever Anyta Sunday publishes next.

Well, colour me surprised! Not what I expected from this cover and that blurb.

And it was probably the style and the characters that made this an enjoyable read - as in, definitely the upper-three stars rating, not the "it's nice" polite 3 stars or the "sure, why not, it's not like there are that many four stars book for me to read" 3 stars.

The point of tension (this just calls for an acronym) - the POT was well handled but also... not? Basically, their big problem was, unsurprisingly, him. Like, the MC. He decided they shouldn't be together. So they weren't. Until he decided to say eff everyone else, I want you and want to be with you. And so they were together.

Sorry for spoilering but I think this is apparent from the blurb.

Recommend.

This was pretty fun, I enjoy bratty Duke, though it's more about Rohan really. Which makes it a bit disappointing that the end is so short. I mean, the author always makes the slow-burn last until the last few pages, but I thought it was just over to fast than. In the end Rohans' decision was just too easy, too fast, kinda cheapens the reluctance over the whole rest of the book. But besides that I really enjoyed it.

Btw, I can't quite figure out what's the big deal with the "taboo" is. Second cousins is not close at all and I thought they had more of a friendship going then a distinctly family relationship, even with the 8 year age gap, but that's just me.

Loving his cousin for so many years, it never occured to Duke that the love was mutal...until now.

I love the tension between them. Lust yet forbidden, it's very well written!

I love the way how Duke's every childish behavior screams 'I'm bratty and I dare you to do something about it!'

It's a slow burn, exciting book and got a little bit dominant thing in it. In other word, my favorite kind of story. Only problem about this book is the ending is a bit rush... Rohan suddenly giving up SmallQ made one of the main blocks seem ridiculous.

All in all, this book is worth reading!

Forbidden love isn't really my thing, but I love most of Anyta Sunday's work, so I gave this a try. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough character development to make this work for me. I didn't understand why Duke and Rohan were so in love with each other. I didn't get enough of their struggles or their motivation or the why behind the choices they were making. Also, Duke has this huge issue with his parents that was barely explored and then was fixed with a few sentences at the end. I wanted a lot more of that and everything they were struggling with on the page.

I haven't been able to get into the first three books when I tried reading them a few months ago - but Daring Duke had me at the first line and wouldn't let go. It was the perfect mix of fun and feelings, with a great cast of secondary characters, and I greatly enjoyed unraveling the reality of Duke's true self beyond his brat persona.

And when Rohan referred to Duke as his beautiful brat? Well. I just about swooned each time.

The covers to this series are so bright and fun, I always notice them! Daring Duke IS daring, pretty taboo, and pretty darn sweet. Duke has feelings for his OLDER, in the closet, second cousin. Who is also his roommate! Rohan does not disappoint, and the end is happy all ways around, big and small! Also as a side note, I love his sister.

Tumultuous Times

Rogan and Duke are second cousins and have always been close, until Duke begins to feel more than what you might expect second cousins should feel towards each other.

When Rohan's impending engagement is about to be announced, they have decisions that need to be made, despite how it will affect both their families, and their futures.

MM romance between cousins. It's been a while since I read about Duke, so I didn't immediately remember his past. He mostly acts as a jerk, but his cousin Rohan manages to see through to the man he is underneath. I warmed up to the story as it developed.
Typos: had written twice in a row, inexplicable line ("poured slosh in his tea"), they for the, missing period.
