When Tamara told me she was thinking of writing a book in which a beautiful, determined journalist sets out to expose an underground BDSM club but ends up attracted to the lifestyle, I said, "Yes! Yes! Yes!" Then I refreshed my inbox incessantly until she finished--it was worth the wait. This book has everything lovers of dark, erotic stories want... A smart, feisty, loyal heroine with scars from her past. A gorgeous, well-mannered dom with impeccable suits and an accent. A richly imagined setting that will reveal to curious readers (ahem, like moi) what it's really like inside a BDSM club, and why the misconceptions persist. Scorching hot scenes, both sexual and sensual, that will have you reading with one hand. If you've ever wondered what BDSM is about but were afraid to ask, pick up this book--like main character Sloane Winters (and myself), you might be pleasantly surprised. See you at The Underground...

Protecting a family member, especially a beloved twin sister at any cost may seem noble. However, maligning an entire group of people because of misconceptions in the attempt to save a sister who does not want nor need to be saved is a different story. Sloane Winters is a holier-than-thou journalist who is a know-it-all. She's young yet feels she knows how the world works because of her time out in the world as an investigative journalist.
This book is a hard one to rate for me because the character is so loathsome. Sloane is a judgmental tattle tale busy body. She thinks she knows better than her sister, Tessa. Yet she never once tries to understand from Tessa's perspective. The nasty vitriol spewing from Sloane's filthy mouth is abhorrent. The first twenty percent of this book will likely loose most of the kinky crowd readers. It is insulting, demeaning, condescending and hateful. Honestly, Ms. Mataya would be better served to edit the first twenty percent of her book down to only five to ten percent otherwise many kinky readers may "do not finish" (DNF) the book. I nearly sent this book back with a DNF review which is almost unheard of for me. I'm the one all DNF books from other reviewers go to for review.
From a BDSM perspective, Ms. Mataya does an excellent job of capturing those who don't understand the lifestyle and want to throw us in jail or mental institutions. Sloane's outrage ironically stems from her own attraction to the lifestyle which she doesn't fully acknowledge. Nothing like self-hatred to make a person feel righteous and justified. Her experience with Darko Aralica who is a "premier" dominant at the exclusive BDSM club, The Underground, is interesting. It's not to say that this can't happen. The submissive training she experiences at his hands are what lure newbies into the lifestyle. They believe all they need to do is find a dominant and this is what will happen. Unfortunately, this is probably the only fictional part to the BDSM aspect which may dismay some kinky readers. The impact play, sensation play and even the negotiation are all realistic. The bondage scene seems to be fine, it wasn't detailed enough for me to make any good assessment. None of the BDSM scenes in this book turned me on nor interested me. It is because the scenes are told more than showed and there is a distinct lack of sexual or erotic chemistry between the two characters. The only scene which really stands out is a video replay of chains being used on a submissive.
Yes, Darko wants Sloane. Yes, Sloane falls for this "evil" tempting man. Yet, the sensual tension isn't there. Darko doesn't come across as a dominant for me. He is supposed to be some kind of uber dom yet his actions didn't impress me or make me want to kneel for him. Perhaps Ms. Mataya needs to observe more dominants to capture the essence which makes them so dominant and then translate the "domliness" into written words. Sloane's apparent submissive demeanor didn't work for me either. Since I felt no respect for Sloane and even her past abuse didn't move me, it is very hard for me to enjoy this book. Writing it in switching first person makes it even harder for me to enjoy. Mainly because first person writing is daring when the main character is a little shit like Sloane.
One could argue Sloane turned around and sees the light through her experiences at Darko's hands. That is a valid point but unfortunately, first impressions leave a lasting mark and the plot didn't do a good enough job to turn me around and like Sloane. She's still like a smear on my shoe I'd like to wipe off. Her sister Tessa on the other hand is interesting. I look forward to seeing how Tessa's story will be. Near the end of this book, it does a decent set up of Tessa's story. Especially as it seems Tessa's dominance will require a strong male submissive from her past.
My recommendation for Ms. Mataya is to spend more time with character development. Make the reader root for the characters. Create characters with more layers. Add in more erotic chemistry between the two characters by showing action rather than telling their feelings. I also recommend getting rid of writing in the first person voice. Some authors can pull it off. In this book, it is not the case.

6 Panty Dropping Stars!!
This is the second book I have read by Tamara Mataya, she has an excellent way of capturing her readers to the point where you can’t put the book down and you need to keep going until the very end. The book is written in dual perspectives, which is very important as it sucks you right into their thoughts and feelings while you are reading. Very easily followed, it seems so realistic, like it’s happening in real life. It’s very evident that Mataya did her research as an author before diving into writing this work of fiction on BDSM. Yes, you read that correctly, this is a book about BDSM, but not as dark as some. If you’re not into reading about BDSM, then this isn’t the book for you, I however would definitely pick up any book written by Mataya, she definitely knows her way around a story.
Sloane and Tessa are twin sisters. Sloane thought she knew everything about her twin, until she loses contact with her for days. Sloane thinks her sister may be in trouble and begins to try searching for her, until she stumbles into a dark place, where she ends up meeting a man. A tall, built, dark haired, blue eyed man who thinks she is beautiful. His name is Darko; she’s intrigued and instantly needs to know more. Sloane becomes involved with Darko, she gets to experience first-hand what it’s like to be submissive to Darko.
She learns what the underground is all about, as well as this lifestyle, all while still attempting to gain contact with her sister. Things take as turn as Sloane develops feelings for Darko, trying to protect her sister is still crucial, and now protecting Darko’s feelings from an article she is set on writing is causing her serious pause.
Sloane does not want to lose him.
She thought she knew about this lifestyle and what kink is all about.

Right so if you can't tell by the cover this is a BDSM book! Hmm ok so I wasn't sure about this one - fifty shades was the first BDSM I read and obviously bloody loved it like everyone else! I tried to get into other BDSM books but I couldn't so I never finished them. So I was hesitant to read it at first.
Sloane Winters is the main heroine in this book and she is a determined one. She is hell bent on making a point - that point being 'The underground world' is disgusting, demoralizing, and just abusive and wrong - especially for her sweet troubled twin sister Tessa. Sloane is very persistent and quite judgmental at times which brings us to her job- a journalist, using this and the fact her and Tessa are identical twins, to her advantage as an in, to get a story while at the same time showing her sister how wrong her chosen lifestyle is.

We then meet Darko - Yes that is his name. And he is as mysterious and sexy as that name of his. He is honest and loyal and did I mention hot? He and Sloane meet in the club that Sloane is planning to burn to the ground and expose it for the filth and danger she knows it to be. I loved Darko, I can't explain it without giving too much away but I really did like him so much, he was sexy, an alpha of course with a bit of a sensitive side that you had to work on to get to obviously. Which brings me to Sloane. So Yeah, she pissed me off immensely like seriously annoyed me at times - and it wasn't anything to do with Tamara's writing. I'm not going to lie it was a lot to do with that she was a journalist- I have just realized lately how the characters in a book being a journalist bothers me - and especially the fact she was so indecisive when it came to the predicament she got herself into. Ok so maybe I love Darko and I am a bit biased and got a bit annoyed at her motives and thought she was a bit of a b*&^%.

I have only read fifty shades, I did try to get into another series that was based around a BDSM relationship but s*&^ got real weird real quick and I couldn't finish. Although for me this was different to what is expected of BDSM books - I think a lot of them can be about a wealthy man, introducing a woman to this lifestyle they have plenty of hot sex, a few problems here and there but I don't think other BDSM books really delve into the lifestyle for everyone involved and not just that couple. Don't get me wrong there was problems along the way but these characters had a lot of depth and layers to them and of course the chemistry and sex between these two was hot!
"Unable to be passive for a second, I grab her hips and f*&^ her from the bottom, tossing her up with my hips, pulling her down with my hands, relishing the sound of her a$$ slapping against me and the sharp gasp it brings from her gorgeous mouth as the head of my cock hits somewhere new and deep inside her."
I wasn't sure how I felt about this book to be honest. I got through it fairly quickly, I couldn't put it down. I felt we needed more though so that can be a good thing or bad thing- depends how you look at it. This story was so many things, yes it was BDSM. It was the lifestyle - but it was the people in that lifestyle not just BDSM itself but the people that live that life and that was one of the most intriguing elements of this story. This was a journey of self discovery and self acceptance. I loved the twists and turns in this book, while there are some you can maybe guess along the way there are still some that deliver that shock factor and it's done well. Tessa is a big presence during this whole book and I hope the next book in this series is Tessa's story and will certainly be reading the next one in this series. As unsure as I felt about this book - it has been on my mind all week, so that has to be a good thing right?

Make Me is perfection. And Ms. Mataya is the one responsible. Honestly, I am not surprised. With each release Tamara Mataya shows her prowess at creating intelligent characters and diverse stories that are rich in human emotion, and that show sensitivity for the many differences that people can have. She blends sexual chemistry and the joy of falling in love so effortlessly. Sort of like “smart smut”. And this book, the first in the Submission Games series, was brilliantly well done smart smut. The story that unfolds between Sloane and Darko had me so enthralled that I weaseled my way out of cooking dinner, just so I could keep reading.
And goodness, the sexy times in this book were immensely sensual without crossing the line into gratuitous sex. Each scene served to move the plot along and they were hot to boot. (Think: one-handed reading.) As someone who has read a lot of books with BDSM elements, I can always tell who has done their research and who hasn’t. Tamara Mataya is definitely one who has done the work. The often times misunderstood lifestyle is clearly explained and treated with respect from beginning to end. This book would be a great starting point for someone who wants a glimpse of the lifestyle and what it’s about. And it was a phenomenal read for someone who is a veteran BDSM romance fan too.
I cannot wait to see what happens in future installments in this series. I got a small taste of Take Me, the upcoming second book, with an excerpt at the end of Make Me and it only made me that much more excited to see what Tamara Mataya has in store for her readers. Thankfully, Make Me was a complete story, so future books will give us new characters to swoon over.

There's truly something to be said about an author who can make you change your view on something. For me, it was Tamara Mataya and BDSM. When I first read MAKE ME, my experience and "knowledge" (this word is used loosely) was based on the 50 Shades trilogy. It's safe to say I was ill-informed. (Note: Though I did love 50 shades, I am well aware that reality and fiction are two very different things, and the reality of the BDSM community was not properly represented in these particular works of fiction.)
MAKE ME did just that . . . it made me open my eyes to a world I knew nothing about. As Sloane learned her way through the lifestyle, so did I. As her mind opened, and her preconceived notions began to fall away, so did mine. I fell in love with Darko as Sloane did, fell in love with the beauty that can be found in a true, caring Dom/sub relationship, fell in love with this story that Mataya artfully crafted.
I've read everything Tamara Matyaya has written, and I can say that without a doubt, this was the series she was born to write. The way she painted the scenes, formed the characters, bled onto the pages of MAKE ME . . . well, this is a book I will read over and over again. And dammit, Tessa's story in TAKE ME can't get here fast enough.
I highly recommend MAKE ME to anyone who loves a sexy, sultry love story. Because that's what this is. A love story. And an epic one at that.

WOW!!!! This book has left me speechless. This is the third book by Tamara Mataya that I have read and it by far my favorite. Her writing has improved so much since that first book of hers that I read.
This book was so different from her other books. She decided to write a story about a subject that many find to be taboo…..BDSM. I thought she did a fabulous job with this storyline. She was able to make this story and characters feel real and relatable. You can really tell that she did her research on this subject to make this book seem and feel authentic to the reader. I loved that she told this story in dual POV, because I thought it was totally beneficial to read what both Sloane and Darko were feeling and thinking. This book was very tastefully written. I have read many BDSM type stories and some have made me squeamish while reading it and some I thought were just too tame to be consider in this genre of book, but I thought Tamara did an excellent job finding that middle ground. I thought she captured the BDSM world accurately but without being overly graphic just to push the readers limits.
This book was so much more than just a BDSM and love story. This was truly a journey of self discovery and acceptance for Sloane, who just so happens to fall in love with a Dom along the way ;) Sloane is a woman who has to have control in every aspect of her life….love, work and family. So when her twin sister comes to her and tells her that she has this different lifestyle, Sloane reacts poorly and is set out to show her sister what a bad world BDSM really is. But what she finds along the way is that she is more a part of that world than she would've ever guessed. I don't want to tell you everything that happens, but trust me you will want to follow Sloane on this wonderful journey. I think a lot of readers will be able to connect to this story on a personal level.
As for Darko (I know weird name, but she explains it in the book)…..he is amazing!!! I fell for him hook, line and sinker. He is a wonderful Dom but also a sweet man underneath. I think that is why I loved this book so much….the author didn't make Darko out to be that overbearing Dom, who you just hate because he is just mean. I thought she hit the nail on the head with Darko. He was the best combination between Dom and gentleman.
I liked all the secondary characters, but none that completely stuck out to me. I know I would be happy to read books about some of the other Doms/subs from the club. We do get a sneak peek of the next standalone in this series….Take Me. I am truly looking forward to that book….I am excited to see where she takes the next story.
I would 100% recommend this book to everyone. If you are a fan of BDSM, I think this is a great book to read, but even if you aren't, I still think this is read you should try. None of the BDSM scenes are overly graphic, so you won't be left squirming while reading this story. This was a great story about learning to love yourself and be true to who we really are.

I loved how this felt so different from the usual erotica. I couldn't put it down because of the torrid pacing. The smutty scenes are smoldering that I couldn't stop blushing as I read them.
Darko and Sloane's chemistry is instant from the get go.
If you're looking to get into erotica or want something different than the usual fare, I suggest you read Make Me. Besides the heat, the romance will keep the pages turning.

Well...I had the honor of reading this a while back and it is still fresh in my mind. I would give anything to find a club like the one in this book. *bites bottom lip* This story was so hot that I may or may not have had to stop for a 'breather'. Tamara is my hero...my bean hero! ;-)

I'm not a normal BDSM reader but Tamara Mataya is one of my favorite authors. Make Me is one of those books that took my breath away. Seductive characters and setting, I was able to explore a world I've never known. It was erotic and so fantastic! If you love reading dark erotic romance, you've got to pick this up. If you've wondered what BDSM is all about, I'd recommend you read this.

Now I have to begin this review with a disclaimer. I do not have an interest in reading novels that are in your face kink foolery or novels that have the act of expressing ones preference in the BDSM lifestyle. So, initially when I was asked to read this by the author, I was very apprehensive. I just knew that it would be too much for my liking and I would instantly be turned off, how so and ever, I was completely wrong.
Make Me by Tamara Mataya was not too much and not too little but just right. It was truly a tale that demonstrates things are not always what they seem or how we may perceive them based on our own personal biases. Sloane Winters was 100% certain that her sister, Tessa, was in danger and needed to be saved from herself and the moral-less underworld of BDSM. So, acting as captain-save-a-sister, Sloane decides that the best way to help her sister is to partake in the offerings below the surface of “normal”. This is where she runs into Darko Aralica, who not only sends Sloane’s pulse a racing just by his mere presents, but changes her complete view of her own truth by giving her a personal introduction into the lifestyle of the underworld.
I digress. This novel is different. Tamara Mataya has told a tale that has been told in many different ways by so many others in a way that truly demonstrates her talent as an author. She is good. I mean really good at how she uses her words and weaves them together into a story that smolders and causes you to want to read and know more about the characters beyond the tom-kinkery.
Well done Tamara and I would definitely recommend to others, if they are look for not only a steamy read, but a well-crafted story, run out and read Make Me by Tamara Mataya.

I don't understand all the high reviews. This couple had zero chemistry. Everything was superficial. Even what they had in common, family and trauma, was just talked about briefly, and, boom, instalove. Even their BDSM scenes were lackluster. Just didn't care about this couple. I skipped pages just to finish hoping something would happen. It didn't!

This was an eye opening book. It was how I think many people look at the BDSM lifestyle.
Sloan and her sister Tessa are close. When Tessa was in a bad way, Sloane was there to pick up the pieces. Tessa decided that she was going to live a different way than what her sister knew about. Sloane began to get worried about her sister and wanted to protect her. The journalist in her though had other ideas.
Sloane found out where Tessa was living her lifestyle. She went there posing as Tessa but she didn't fool one person and that person was the one that decided she needed to be taught a lesson.
Dark was someone that had trained Tessa so he knew when Sloane wasn't Tessa. Sloane wanted to be trained and so Darko was going to train her. He just didn't expect what he felt to happen.
Would Sloane continue with her story or would her eyes be opened? What would happen between her and Darko?
This is a lesson in never listen to stereotyping. I would recommend this.

I think this was such a smart, fun, and sexy book! I loved it and had so much fun reading it. Sloane, the protagonist, starts off as a very judgey character, entering the BDSM world with lots of prejudices, because she'll write an article about it, and wants to save her sister who's been dragged into this world. But then Sloane meets SWOON-WORTHY Darko (omg, I loved Darko) and he quickly starts to change all her past labels of this world. I also loved the characters--loved how multidimensional Sloane is... caring so much about her sister, having secrets that haunt her, and then having a big character arc. Darko, aw, I really love him. He's smart and sexy and... REAL. The plot was also great--there's a contest to win, there are secrets, and lots of romance! Can't wait to read more of Tamara Mataya's books! :D

This book definitely gave a different insight into the realm of BDSM. One which was actually quite refreshing, including, but not limited to, the handling of a submissive's membership to The Underground.
While I would love to give the full five stars, I'm going to give 4.5, after having a difficult time with the abrupt start to Darko and Sloane's relationship, which resulted in my having difficulty feeling a connection to them. But rest assured, that connection came in hard and strong, it just took a bit longer to get there.

I was fortunate enough to read this book in its early stages, and damn, what a sucker punch. It's brutally honest and heartfelt and, most importantly, real. It's like no other BDSM book I've read, and that is a compliment of the highest order.

As someone who has never read anything about BDSM, and all I know is from one unfinished viewing of Fifty Shades Of Grey, this was amazing. I learned a lot about this lifestyle, and definitely dropped my own perceptions. This was so well done! It gives you a full picture, and introduces you to a world so few know, and everyone judges! There's the saying: the easier is it to read, the harder it was to write. You can tell Ms. Mataya researched this, put a lot of thought into creating characters that you can relate to, and wrote the hell out of this book. The romance between Sloane and Darko doesn't feel forced, the chemistry is real, it never gets boring or repetitive (a problem I have with romance usually) and their intimacy is HOT! Super hot! I enjoyed this so much, and I'm glad I picked it up.

I have never been good at expressing my feelings, at expressing my wants and needs. That fact made me connect to one of the characters in this book. When I first decided to explore/research BDSM, I was confused about what I wanted as compared to what I thought about the lifestyle. Reading this book was like reading my life's history told by someone else. I'm not a journalist and I haven't yet found my happy ever after, but the doubts I had and the realization that embracing the lifestyle without having to mirror what some other submissives enjoy came to me much the way they did for this character. I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who wants more than just smutty romance. This book has heart. It tells a story with feeling. It captures the hopes, wants and fears of an up and coming submissive beautifully.

Omg this book turned out so much better than I thought would be. Sloane come in with logic & rational thought thinking she is saving her sister then she meets Darko & her life is turned upside down. Well written. Investing characters, with a very interesting twist that I did not see coming. Worth reading. Personally I wish the submission was more of our power exchange and less of BDSM, but that is just a preference.

If your tastes run to BDSM, then this is a must read.
Personally, I didn't like it as much as The Best Laid Plans but it is a delicious romance.
