A gripping read that compels you to keep turning the pages even when you're afraid of what they will reveal.

I can't even express how wonderfully complex and masterfully written this novel is.

It feels very current and very relateable, given the times we live in.

Left me in awe and longing for more.

When I was 12, 13, I read all the Sci-Fi I could get my hands on, to be honest - it was my favourite genre! But then I was introduced to Russian literature and Balzac, and my world changed - perhaps not for the better! I stopped reading Sci-Fi except for several re-reads of Heinlein's masterpiece Stranger in a Strange Land, which, just like this book, is really all about acceptance - of those who differ from us, of who we are, of the other and ourselves.
This book will hit you in the gut, as there are twists and turns you won't be expecting and will take a toll on you. You'll be left knocked out of breath for a stint, but jumping back in again because YOU JUST NEED TO KNOW. The fact it ends on a cliffhanger is just the best ending ever, leaving you curious and eager for more. The immense cast of characters felt daunting at first, but I was soon entangled in the tale - for this is a very plot driven tale, make no mistakes. I admire deeply anyone who can write plots this thorough and deep, with such a detailed world-building in them, that keep you at the edge of your seat.
This is a book for the lovers of Sci-Fi who crave something with depth, something that makes you think and question your very views of your own world and how you perceive it. It feels very current, and very relatable, given the times we live in. I highly reccommend it.

When I was a teenager I used to digest science fiction books like biscuits. Clarke, Asimov, Bradbury and Heinlein, I read them all and pretty much every book I read then was sci-fi. But gradually over the years, they fell out of favour with me and my tastes moved on to fantasy and more contemporary fiction so that it has been a long time since I've read a science fiction book and I wondered how I would get on with it.

The answer is I loved it, Canellian Eye by Carrie Noe is a glorious sweep of a book in the style of all those classic authors I loved so much back in the day. It reignited my love of the genre and made me wonder why I ever stopped reading it at all.

Well written and nicely paced, the book tells the tale of a distant race struggling to escape a doomed planet with only a centuries-old prophecy to guide them. Her depiction of the alien species was clever and intriguing and her characters were no less relatable for having green skin. Gradually, she draws you in with her tale of a desperate journey by people who've lost everything and are hoping for a shining future.

What happens to them makes for gripping reading and towards the end, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The book is a nice length and there are no overblown passages of description to slow the pace down, instead, the author doles out snippets of information within the action to build a complete world in the reader's mind.

About two-thirds of the way through there was an unexpected twist and after that, the plot was up for grabs, as the author threw shocks and surprises our way at every turn.

Like all great books, this one has left me wanting more and I'm concerned as to where her characters can possibly go now. I only hope the author hurries up and releases book two in the series as I, for one, will be first in the queue to buy a copy.

This book was amazing! I'm not usually a sci-fi fan, but this book has turned me. I really enjoyed the characters and the setting, and I also loved the unpredictability of the book. Things did not go the way I thought it would, and when a book does that, you know it's a goodie! I am looking forward to reading book two.

Title - Canellian Eye - Prophecy
Author - Caroline Noe
Book Details - paperback, pages 272.
Genre - Sci Fic - Aliens - Space
.
.
I won this book through a competition the author held on Instagram
.
My view on what this book is about ...
This is a book about aliens that have green skins, jade eyes, and sleep not in beds, but pods. It's the Ice Age. I was introduced to so many characters in this book that there appeared to be a humungous community out there. I was also introduced to many different planets... but the crew on the ship were searching for a new planet to live on. The planet they were in search of ... is ... the New Canellia. They had been in space 3,182 years. On their journey they discovered a new planet, Elyacia, so different from Canellia.... they had sun, they had a different language, they even had a different entertainment facility which included an extremely interesting game of balls and hoops. .... so what else lies in this mysterious world of Elyacia? Do the Canellians stay and merge as a whole community? Complicated romances, causes unwanted dramas. Quaylan (Canellian) and Drel (Elyacian) face a decision they have to make.

My thoughts on this book...
This is not really a genre I read alot of. It is out of my comfort zone. I found Canellian Eye not overbearing with scientific facts, or figures. I was swept up in a whirl wind of cold blast, icicles, frost, snow and ice, and then lead into the bight sun of Elyacia, where sinister stuff happen.
.
My favourite characters in the book is Quaylan and also I loved Palaxa.
.
I skipped a few pages nearer the end due to cutting and bleeding, but overall I thought the book itself sure was entertaining.
.
Caroline Noe's world building is very intriguing and certainly got me into a world I have never seen or heard before. You can see there must have been quite alot of plotting and thoughtfully placing a structure that makes sense, as I can imagine this would be hard to do writing a sci fi book. The descriptive words, were very thought provoking, hence examples of the quotes mentioned. The minute details of the planets themselves, must have taken painstakingly a long time to build, which didn't go unnoticed by me.
.
Rating System ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I'm giving Canellian Eye - Prophecy, 4 stars.
.
I recommend this book to anyone who is a Sci Fi fan, to anyone who likes different world building in books.
.
Thank you goes to Caroline for sending me a physical signed copy of the book, as stated in the giveaway, your book was appreciated and no doubt I will be reading book 2 in the future.

This book had a lot of promise! The world-building is great, I didn't expect it to be a sci-fi (entirely my fault for never reading blurbs once I've bought a book XD) but loved the premise, and there are several fantastic plot twists! These characters made some dark decisions, which I loved, and I love that it ended on a rather dark note. I adore books that don't try to make everything all sunshine and rainbows.

The only thing that let it down for me was the omniscient narrator. It puts me off in any book unless it's extremely well done, which isn't easy to do. I know lots of readers don't mind it, but for me, it can easily make everything very passive, and that was the case with this book. Personally, I would have preferred everything to be a lot more active.

This is an easy recommendation for anyone who loves sci-fi, dark stories with several dark plot twists, and omniscient narrators.

Fantastic

Here I am, days away from the New Year and my 2021 reading is ending with a bang! I am so happy I chose to squeeze in Canellian Eye: Prophecy. This book is fantastic. Gripping from the first paragraph, Noe pulls you in to a whole new world. I loved the Canellian race that she has created. The character’s are adoring, the plot is so on the edge of your seat that I found myself holding my breath! I’m instantly onto book two!

An ice age is bringing the paradise of Canellia to an end. But their prophet, Quaylan, is leading the Chosen to a new land. Quaylan is just a teenager however, and despite his confident exterior, fears failing his people as they set out to find a new home. When the survivors finally make contact with life, Quaylan makes the decision to land the failing spacecraft with the hope of a welcome for his people. The Elyacians are distrustful of these aliens however, and despite his best efforts, the Canellian people soon find themselves in danger.

This first instalment of the Canellian Eye series had me gripped from page one. Noe does a wonderful job in creating characters worth rooting for, and even as the action begins with the Chosen fleeing their dying planet, it’s hard not to shed a tear for those left behind. Noe’s description of the polluted world occupied by the Elyacians was so brilliantly worded, I caught myself coughing against the poisoned air as I read. Her characters are crafted with flaws that both delighted and surprised me. Despite his role in the prophecy for example, Quaylan is a teenager, and Noe has the skill to write him as one, complete with insecurities and immaturity. As the plot builds, so does the tension. With characters scrambling for survival against the machinations of the Elyacian court, I found myself physically sweating with each turn of the page and needing a long moment to catch my breath when I reached the end. Full of twists and turns, this book floods with every emotion. Noe’s writing flows beautifully and weaves a fantastic tale which I’m now impatiently waiting to continue. This is the first book I’ve read by Caroline Noe, but it won’t be my last. A superb read that has left me wanting more.

“Long ago, when the stars were young and everything was possible…”
This second line of the book caught me, and while I’m not sure the author meant for me to take so much out of it, I did. It encompasses both the heart-swelling hope and nostalgia we often think when looking back, but infuses the sentiment with the reality of how ridiculous that can be.

“…when everything was possible…” It’s kind of a silly idea, yes? Was the universe different, fundamentally, when it was young that made things possible then that aren’t now? An entire philosophical discourse is reflected in that half sentence. At least for me.

I feel the main characters are tasked thus so. An impossible task blended perfectly with blind faith and pure grit. A wonderful grand scheme that is as fun to read as it is real and clever.

I was especially taken with the world and people of Canellia. The perfect use and creation of, what I imagined as, an elvish origin tied into a sci-fi world that was simply fantastic. The insane travels, the hardship of the first phase of their mission that is as exciting as it is heartwrenching. All followed by the reality of frustration that blending into a new world and culture would bring, multiplied by the questions of if their god and prophet can really come through.

Science Fiction fans who want a touch of something new, read this. People who love stories that revolve around social issues, read this. Love watching the convoluted way prophecy unfolds? Read it for that too.

Also, this book is why you should have more faith in indie authors 🙂
Happy Reading 🙂

Canellia’s twin suns are dying and an ice age is approaching. A child is born with a birthmark, the symbol of the ancient foretold 'Jahul’s Eye'. To safeguard the survival of their race, Quaylan (The Eye) and the Chosen youth are cryofrozen and launched in to space to search for the New Canellia, leaving their families to their ultimate fate.

Several thousand years later, the ageing ship is failing and Quaylan has to make a choice to ensure the survival of the Chosen. Before long, the Prophet begins to doubt his legacy and disappoint this people.

Canellian Eye is a gripping, complex and imaginative story which keeps you enthralled to the bitter end. The charismatic (and colourful) characters endear (or don’t), and each personal battle is encompassing, hugely relatable and often heart-breaking. Be warned, Noe is not afraid of putting her characters through their paces.

Canellian Eye is the third sci-fi book I’ve ever finished reading. Safe to say, I did my usual toe tip test of the first chapter, and immediately found myself immersed. I'm not fond of omniscient POV, but in this case I found the writing style easy to follow and I can't imagine any other POV working with this story.

Beautifully written, highly recommended, and I look forward to reading books two and three in the series: Canellian Eye : Rebellion and Canellian Eye : Chosen.

Once again, I was blown away by Noe’s ability to create intense, multi-faceted characters you quickly care about. In Canellian Eye: Prophecy, she also showcased her brilliant and vivid world building skills. Tack on a writing style that is descriptive enough to give you a clear picture of those characters and their world but light enough to keep the story moving, Noe has officially become an automatic buy for me.

With Canellian Eye: Prophecy, I found myself traversing a wide range of emotions, both with her characters and because of the situations they find themselves in on their quest. More than once I rooted for a character and in just a few pages was shocked by their actions, leaving me questioning my support of their journey.

If you are looking for your next read, I highly recommend giving Canellian Eye: Prophecy a chance. I am highly anticipating the second book in this series.

What would you do if you were trained from birth to be the prophet of your people, destined to lead them from a dying world to a fresh start in paradise? Yet after three thousand years of space travel your people have arrived in a situation that is almost worse – a world of immense climatic hardship, brutal aliens, crime, corruption and few options for escape.

Caroline Noe has a wonderful way with words. She gives you just enough detail to catapult your mind into amazing worlds with treachery around every corner. Her characters are multidimensional, her plots believable and engaging.

I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next instalment of her series.

Canellian Eye is an incredible tale of survival and sacrifice. It was a difficult book for me to read, not because it wasn’t good—it was excellent!—but because it was gut-wrenching. The stakes and tensions were so high I had to periodically take breaks to emotionally regroup. This book holds no punches and takes no prisoners. A gripping read that compels you to keep turning the pages even when you’re afraid of what they will reveal. I was just taken through the ringer but need to know what will happen next!

Each time I pick up a novel by Caroline Noe, I'm never disappointed. From unique, relatable characters to incredible backdrops and imagery, Canellian Eye: Prophecy, came alive with each turn of the page. Since this is the beginning of a trilogy, I knew there was a lot of ground to cover, from telling the tale of a race of people whose world evolves from idyllic to harsh frigid conditions, to space and beyond, and more difficulties when they finally land on a new planet, thousands of years later. This new world is the complete opposite from the world they've once called home, the climate hot and desert-like; its native people somewhat indifferent and aggressive. But whatever situation arises, Noe draws out the characters and situations, bringing with it a very relatable scenario. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and eagerly look forward to reading the next two books.

Carrie painted a world of the Planet Canellia in its great wonder but then the tides changed. The suns diminished and ice formed, forcing these amazing people away from their home in search of some place new.

I’ve read some reviews saying the book is slow to start. I respectfully disagree. I think she paints the picture and skillfully introduces us to the Canellians.

I love all kinds of sci-fi books so I can travel to new worlds without getting my bank account involved. Carrie definitely gives you that.

I laughed but also had to get a few tissues for this first book. I am super excited to read Prophecy and Rebellion.

So many thoughts ran through my brain as I embarked on this futuristic journey...on second thought, was it futuristic or could it have been the past? But I regress, I’m getting a little ahead of my self. I want to start off by saying that I have read the Canellian Eye Trilogy, back to back, and it’s a STRONG 5 star series...all three books. Soooo get to it! Read! NOW!!!

Prophecy is the first book and the foundation...the beginning and what a beginning it is! A world dying smothered in the deepest of cold and darkness as their two suns diminish and flicker out one by one leaving nothing but darkness and cold in its place. Yes, there was a plan. People were left behind to save the few which brought to mind the story of Noah’s Ark; but instead of an ark there’s a spaceship and instead of animals two by two there’s young adults and children with a promise to find New Canellian.

The Prophecy sets the stage and tone with fear and uncertainty along with hope and faith. The characters, and there are many, are introduced and meticulously developed. There’s Quaylan, Milachay, Lis, little Istran, Axil, Frayan, Palaxa, and Yix. This is a story of forced immigration led by a young man, Quaylan, a teenager actually, with a young heart who meets Drel. Yeah, I know.
Youthful love is oft times filled with pitfalls. This story of the Chosen is so realistically presented with the good along with human flaws that I instinctively paused and began to wonder. Ohhh! Ahhh! Nope! I was wrong. I was wrong a lot.

Prophecy is the beginning of this epic space travel story and it is one you will want to read, devour and savor every single word. It is a solid story of world building....a brand new world. This interim world created by Noe and the variety of characters brought to life are the nuts and bolts of Prophecy. When you have read the last page, I hope you will close Prophecy and reach for Rebellion. I did.

When I told hubby I was Reading Canellian Eye: Prophecy, after filling him in on what it was about, he said, 'But you don't like books set in space', to which I replied, 'I think this one is a bit different'. Boy am I glad that I didn't let my natural dislike for anything set in space stop me from reading my first book by Caroline Noe.

Technically it is set in space, it's about the Canellian's who are forced to leave their dying planet in a bid to save their race. In time, they land on Elyacia, where their survival depends on the not so welcoming arms of the Elyacian's.

Canellian Eye: Prophecy weaves an excellent tale, it's well written and tackles some significant issues (such as racism) while also exploring human motivations at both a macro and a micro level. I thoroughly enjoyed it, which is bad news for my 'to be read' list because I'm reading the second in the series next. I simply cannot wait to find out what happens next. In fact, I'm almost glad that I didn't find this book until the whole series was out!

While the two races in this book are aliens, it's fundamentally a story of mankind and what individuals might do in a difficult situation to survive. I'd cheerfully recommend it to anyone who likes books.

Hard to put down

When I first started reading I wasn’t sure how I felt. This isn’t my genre although I do read it from time to time, and the central idea was unsettling. I kept telling myself that as I kept reading just one more page, and then another page until there were no more pages left.
There is a biblical feel to this but this isn’t an angels and demons fantasy. Planets are involved but this isn’t your normal science fiction. Instead it’s about our ability to accept or not accept others presented to us in an outer space setting, and it works, and works well.
There are a lot of characters and at first I thought too many but there are good reasons for this, and it becomes apparent very quickly. We get perspectives on behaviours from many and it lends a realistic thread, and this is what draws the reader in till the very end.
Yes, it is a cliffhanger of sorts but honestly I don’t blame the author. It couldn’t just end in one book. I loved that this was different, well-thought out and that there is meaning in the situations presented designed to have us reflect. Great work from a new author. Bring on the second book.

Caroline Noe created a great science fiction story, her races and planet experience was one that I enjoyed from beginning to the end...and by end I could say I'm in shock, I don't know what to expect and I spoiled myself a little bit of revelation after reading the sinopsis of book two at 80% percent of the book so, don't do that or you will spoil yourself to that bittersweet of an ending.
I liked the story and the Canellians so much, loved the book, I am buying the second installment just after I end this review and probably wait a little bit to read it because I am in trance and in shock and I want book three yet because Caroline writes so wonderfully that I will probably want to keep going, so reading that Chosen is coming out this summer, probably wait for its realease to read book 2 and 3.
Great job Caroline!

Prophecy is the first of a trilogy, and it sets the base for the two sequels. But it is more than that. It is compelling, adventurous, there is love, hardship, sorrow, wickedness and so much more.

Being the Eye was never going to be easy, especially on a planet that has no future, so in order to survive a group of Chosen go on an adventure that is thrilling, but has also a lot of problems.

Whatever the Eye decides, his people will follow, but sometimes circumstances leave him no choice. It is was the Eye does when facing the aftermath of his choice that left me in awe and longing for more.

This book started off slowly, but it truly picked up pace in a gradual, heart-pounding way! The Chosen few of a dying planet and their prophet set off into outer space in search of their promised land, but what they find is very different from what they envisioned. While the beginning is a bit slow for my taste, the buildup and later heavy material is definitely worth it! This book just about broke my heart. It's been a long time since I've read a book with such an epic scale yet maintaining a feeling that's deeply personal. I can't wait to see how the story continues...

I can’t even express how wonderfully complex and masterfully written this novel is. This is a story of bravery, leadership, and devotion coupled with love, loss, and grief. Golly gosh, this was a tremendous read! Best sci-fi I’ve read in years! My Kindle stopped working when I was halfway through and I was so wild that I couldn’t keep reading. Luckily my sister gave me her old iPad and I was able to finish on that and then keep reading the next two instalments. I’m glad I waited until all three books were released and I could read them back-to-back, because I just could not put them down!
Guided by an ancient prophecy, the green-skinned Canellians leave their frozen, dying planet. They’re led by Quaylan, the Eye, but he’s just a teenager, insecure and full of doubt under a confident facade. After thousands of years, cryofrozen in their gradually disintegrating spaceship, the Canellians land, not in their foretold paradise, but on Elyacia, a world of heat, dust, poisonous pollution, crime and corruption.
Such a compelling read - you’ve just got to dive straight into the next book!

An endearing set of characters from different worlds; a great start to a series.

The pacing starts off a bit slow as we are introduced to characters of a dying planet. Honestly, it took me a while to care about them. But then, as they try to do their best to resolve issues when things go wrong, and end up in dire circumstances on another planet, I became more and more intrigued by the characters, the plot, and the worldbuilding. There were scenes of suspense, difficult heart-wrenching moments, and sprinkles of hope. A solid beginning to a fascinating series!

Caroline Noe is a multi-genre author of prodigious talent. The Ezekiel Factor is the book I know her best for (visceral, emotionally raw scifi – read it) but her most recent series, The Mangy Wolf Saga, is a humorous fantasy that comes highly recommended.

So why do I mention these things? Because their roots lie, perhaps, in this twist on the scifi and fantasy genres. Noe leads us through a story arc that starts with a prophecy, and finishes with the trauma of a people realising that said prophecy may have failed them. In between we get a scifi-fantasy story filled with a clash of alien cultures, love, pain, social and emotional isolation and, above all else, loss.

Such a weave can be hard to achieve, and Noe does a fine job with her usual fluid prose to lead the reader through. So, let’s start at the beginning.

Canellia is dying. And we are led through the stages of the planet’s death by the author, charting a people whose last hope lies in a prophecy and a chosen who is to lead some to safety. They sacrifice everything to save the few who leave for the stars. The final death-throes of the Canellians are so painful to read. From there, desperate after millennia of travel, the chosen are forced to land on a desolate, hot planet, sparsely populated by a people who culturally are as distant from their own as possible.

It is here where the elements of a fantasy story develop, and for me, I found a growing connection with some of the side characters rather than the main leads because, though their arc was a tragedy, it forged the background for the rest of the characters to play out and grow. There are some time leaps, and I can understand why these are there. For some they might prove disconcerting, but read on, it worked for me.

I won’t spoil the book further, only to say the seeds of a great series lay in how Noe nurtures this story to the denouement. I am sure there is both revolution and more tragedy to follow, and I will be ready.

If I could give a half star this would be in the 3.5 star category. There are some amazing things in this book! It’s original and unique. It has some moments that made my heart quicken with excitement and anticipation. I loved the subterfuge.

Though, there were also things that I would love to see worked through - the slow start (it felt like it picked up halfway through when I discovered Canellians have a special ability). I wanted more character development. I felt like the story was told to me, but I wanted to experience it - I wanted to feel it. I am a sucker for gorgeous character driven novels (which is important to know about me as a reviewer); this is a plot driven story focused on moving the read through the conflict and raising the stakes. It jumps forward leaving huge gaps in time as well as varied character voices so at times I felt disconnected.

I’m glad I read it, to support a wonderful indie author. I don’t know if my review can be trusted since I don’t read many books in the Science Fiction genre. Perhaps there are things I don’t understand about this category of novel. I think of you like science fiction and a series, this is one to check out.
